about me: i'm from california. my family is mexican. i think i would have a good idea of what good mexican food is.
**I'm giving this place 4 stars considering the location, and its competition
i had an experience last night at another place, Lara's Tortilla Flats, and was thinking "is this as good as it gets for mexican food in oshkosh?" a colleage had told me to go to this place Durangos, and had swore on it. so i went.
Wow. It was by far a very pleasant surprise to find a place that had good mexican food. The experience at Lara's wasnt the best, nor was it awful, but it left much to desire.
I was happy to have found milanesa, and the waiter recommended chicken over the beef, so i went with his recommendation. Chicken breast, butterflied, and lightly battered... perfect!. the beans were fresh. they werent from a can, nor were they a bit salty and dark in color. the rice was well cooked and not al-dente. and of course, bonus points for stalking modelo especial. finally, the chips were warm and fresh, not cold and slightly stale.
It was at one point during my meal that i looked out and realized that i was still in Oshkosh, not a restaurant back home in California (im not BS'ing anyone on this)

I really wanted this place to be awesome, especially since there is a lack of quality mexican food restaurants in the area. After reading reviews for this place and being in the mood for some mexican food, my family and I decide to drive from Fond du Lac to here.
Upon arriving I was surprised to see not one guest in the restaurant. I dismiss it and attribute that to being the afternoon on a weekday. We get seated and were served salsa and chips and served glasses of ice water. After a few minutes our server took our order. One of our orders was requested to not have certain items on it.
After maybe 7 minutes, our food comes. The one entree that was ordered special, was served without the exceptions. The food was overall just ok at best. One person ordered a combination plate of a taco, chile relleno and enchilada and stated that the shredded beef in the taco was excellent, but the taco shell was store bought, not fried to order. Everyone agreed that the beans were not fresh and were too soupy.
The best thing about this place is the salsa. As we were there, multiple people came in just to get chips and salsa. A person in our party even commented that it was about the best salsa they have had.
A final bit of annoyance was no access to a bar here (just wine and beer).
Pro: Fast (but would gladly have waited longer for better quality)
Con: Poor quality and servers need to make sure orders are accurate.
We will not be back. -

Great salsa.
Great service.
Speedy.
Food is not processed tasting (like other Mexican in the area)
Still not the best, but good if you just want something quick (without going for fast food). -

Good food, decent prices and fast service. If you like Mexican food, this is probably the best option in the Valley.
