I wasn't thrilled with them when we took our cat about a month ago, and after our experience today at Capital Cat Clinic, I will never go back to Dupont.  We felt rushed, over-charged, taken advantage of, and not cared for.  The doctors pushed procedures as well as a big bag of food they later told us not to feed him.  They really didn't seem to know how to treat our cat or were so short-staffed/over-booked that they didn't have the time to figure it out.

I don't think I can say anything negative about the clinic. They were extremely nice from the point I made my little puppy's appointment til after I left. I truly wish his particular vet worked there full time but besides that I can't think of anything negative to say whatsoever! Well... I'm sure they aren't what you would call "inexpensive". I'm fully aware of that. However, they are open in the evenings and on weekends which is extremely accommodating for those of us that work til after 5pm.

This clinic receives high praise from me for their care of my very old, very sick cat during his last few months last year.  I appreciated that they were respectful of our wishes.  The vets we worked with didn't make us feel like terrible people for not pursuing expensive, invasive, or minimally effective treatments for out kitty's terminal condition.  Dr. Hollis gave me a range of options to treating kitty's kidney disease walking me through options from hospitalization to at home care.  We even got to practice giving fluids to Jason their resident practice cat who was NOT HAPPY about the situation.  They were also very sensitive with us when we finally had to put the old guy down - whisking us out of the waiting room to a private room the moment we walked in and giving us as much time as we needed after the procedure was done.

We also boarded the cat with them on a number of occasions.  It was nice to know your kitty with health problems has someone looking after him and I don't think we were ever charged the full quoted amount.

We are now seeing Dr. DeLong for care of our new pup and she was great.  My foxhound was very interested in the door so the doctor did the exam where the dog was instead of making her move.  I am sure pup appreciated it.

My only complaint is that there seems to be a high turn over in doctors.  I think we saw 6 different vets with our cat in the 3 years we had him.

Overall the care is great, the location and times are very convenient, the waits are short, and the staff is friendly (if a bit harried at times!)

From the front desk to the Vets, to the vet techs to the location... I love this veterinary clinic. Why so much? On halloween my kitty fell from my bedroom window (6 floors). Since then I've had to take my kitty there twice a week (that's been for a month) to have his cast changed while his leg heals. They've taken such great care of him, while not charging me an arm, a leg and a 401k. More than taking care of the kitty, they've been taking care of me--talking me through what's going on and making sure I understand how to give him the best home care.

What has happened to my favorite vet clinic?  DVC was once the bomb--nice front desk staff, good doctors, competent vet techs.  There aren't that many choices for DC dogs--I once believed I had the best vet care in the city.

But the past two times we've been with Miss Pooches, things just haven't been the same.  Was the practice sold?

What happened to the nice ladies up front? I miss you...

Just who are the hills-loving-hollister wearing way too informal
given the amount of cash I'm handing over ladies up there now?

I feel like all the doctors who once tenderly looked after Miss P. have now "moved on?"  Why are the new docs so sweet but SO green around the ears?

And seriously where did they find the vet tech who made Miss P cry in pain last time I brought her in for a doggie manicure?  It was BRUTAL and bloody, and I still get nauseated when I think about how badly trained the tech must have been to mess up a simple nail trim so much.

Am I just hitting them on bad days?

Are there other vets that are more professional and consistent?  Help me find a new place for Miss P....

". . . and then, we're going to violate his ass. Luckily, I have small fingers." What could be better than a sympathetic gay vet to check your dog's anal glands? I'll spell it out for you -- DR. TEISCH. Our dog is sensitive - like most - at vets, and was already super anxious, when the doc just got down on hands and knees and conducted the full examination on the floor "because he seems to be more comfortable this way, we won't bother stressing him out by putting him on the table."

Not only that, but because we spent $280 on annuals + medicine, he cut the cost of the actual visit, and some of the tests he ran. AND, he makes house calls.
