Need a brat and a beer? (C'mon...you know that feeling.) This is THE place to be.

Sausages here are great...plenty of variety to choose from, but the traditional bratwurst (no kraut, plenty of mustard) is mine. Deli sandwiches are top notch too.

But the main attraction here is the beer. It's German, and it's good. The bottled list is quite extensive, but you have to stick with the German stuff on draft. Spaten Optimator is available year-round, and it's fantastic. (Check the seasonals, too.) They also have a lambic (on draft!)...it is the framboise, not the kriek, but it's still nice to see.

The gift shop is a great place to pick up beer-related gifts and gift packs. Especially useful in PA, where finding a quality sixer can be tough.

This is a great spot for lunch before a lap of the mall...and a great place to hide out if you've had just enough shopping.

Knockwurst.  Bratwurst.  Kielbasi.  Forget sugarplum fairies dancing above your head, dear readers.  This titillating trinity is all you need and Dunderbak's is where you shall find it.  Yes, it's located inside the mall I abhor so much, but venturing to this underrated family restaurant is a sacrifice well-justified.

Who can resist the taut, smoky skins of a perfectly grilled sausage, topped with hot German Weinkraut and spicy whole grain mustard and the savory explosions that follow each and every bite?  Köstlich!  They make sausages and weiners here just the way they ought to be made.  Deutschland would be proud, mein Freund.  The sides are nothing to be missed either.  Dunderback's gives sensible portions, such that midway through the plate, I am suddenly struck with the urgent need for a nap.  When food this good requires a period of respite to complete a single sitting, that's a good indication of some serious good eats.

I suppose you can call me a sausage gobbler, if you must, but their sausages are way too good to put down.  I love everything that is sausage here.  The buns are also very good.  The texture held up to the meat perfectly - chewy yet light but not wimpy.  No one likes a hot sausage escaping from its wimpy buns.

A great perk about the restaurant is that it has an enormous and very impressive selection of foreign and microbrewed beers.  The downside is that they have a house limit of 36 oz of beer per person.  Ugh!!

Dunderbak's, I'm happy to have known you all these years.  You have a devoted follower in me.  Dear readers, get out there, children of the light, and put a hot sausage in your mouth.

Anyone who has visited the Macy's side of the Lehigh Valley mall has had their olfactory senses bombarded by the sauerkraut-sour smell wafting through the air from Dunderbak's.  Along w/ their sausages & dogs, Dunderbak's also serves soup, salads, burgers, wraps & SANDWICHES.  Their bottled beer selection is great (it used to be MUCH larger), & their draft beer options are damn delicious.  I think they could have MORE draft options, but I won't complain about what's available.

They have a good variety of "traditional" deli sandwiches (peppered pastrami, roast beef, corned beef, smoked turkey, honey/maple smoked ham, fresh & smoked turkey breast, & even liverwurst) w/ 5 types of breads to choose from (wheat, white, rye, pumpernickel, & rye/pumpernickel marble - a personal favorite) & add'l toppings that can be added for a small charge (cole slaw, kraut, bacon, chz).  For those w/ bigger appetites, try one of their mouth-watering double-decker sandwiches.  I'm usually torn between the Mozart (Corned beef, cole slaw, swiss cheese & 1000 Island on the bottom & roast beast, LT & sweet/hot mustard on top) or the Frederick the Great (Roast turkey, swiss cheese & 1000 Island on the bottom & pastrami, cole slaw & LT on the top) w/ marbled bread.  I'll slather on Dunderbak's spicy whole grain mustard &/or more of their sweet/hot mustard & immerse myself in a food consuming frenzy (an exercise that I typically reserve for behind-closed-doors) for about 5 mins before I coming back up for a breath of air, & swig of dark, draft beer, then diving right back in w/ just as much enthusiasm as if it were my first bite.  My husband enjoys their Ciabatta sandwich selections, especially the Cuban, a savory/sweet honey cured ham & smoked turkey combination w/ swiss chz, 1000 Island, & slices of dill pickle served warm on a grilled Ciabatta roll (a thin but dense english muffin-type roll).  Oh, it's all so yummy it's terrible.  My hubby & I always need to roll ourselves out of this place w/ our bellies sloshing around w/ beer & food.  Ugh.

Other times we'll just pop into the bar for a few beers & maybe one of their German/PA Dutch-inspired (pierogies, potato pancakes, their sauzgage sampler) or standard bar food-inspired (rings, mozz stix, chicken tenders) appetizers.  Or even step next door to their much-minimized gift shop for a quick knockwurst or hot dog to go, topped w/ kraut & mustard.  Oh yeah.
