It is so hard to find good quality clothes that fit if you are big and tall.
I just got in my order from Duluth (one week later to the day cross country too), tried them on. and am very impressed with the quality as well as the unique 3" longer shirts they offer. I often buy shirts in large sizes just to get the length that I need in a regular shirt so that I can lift my arms without showing my gut. They went to fix plumber butt and fixed tech gut at the same time. Their shirts really fix the problem with shirts that just aren't long enough. The pants are comfortable and I can bend and squat in them without worry of ripping unlike other pairs I have owned when bending at awkard angles as a computer tech might do under a desk (or even in and out of my truck). I also got free shipping and 20% off as a Christmas promotion making them an even better value for the money.
While they may not be the cheapest prices around they seem very fair for what they give in quality (not just material but also in length and cut). -

I've seen their website and receive their catalog but was wary of ordering anything without seeing it in person, so on a trip to Madison, I wanted took a detour to their company store.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but the store, in Mt. Horeb (in the old mustard museum space) is quite nice. Almost too nice. It's kind of like a Restoration Hardware but for clothing, if that makes sense. It's an odd juxtaposition because the clothing and accessories are "work clothes" made for hardworking jobs and activities, but the store features beautiful fixtures, leather furniture and a coffee bar. Not a bad thing, just not necessary in my mind. Does that mean this merchandise isn't really for actual work but for posers who want to look like they do work? Not sure.
As for the clothing, it's not cheap, but the quality seems excellent. Great materials and construction and nice features. I was on the hunt for some really durable work pants--not an easy thing to find for this short lady. The firehose pants seems like the holy grail of what I was looking for. Alas, they did not make a small size that fit me. I realize this sounds like the kind of thing you want to punch other people for, "oh my hair is just too shiny. Oh my skin is just too soft" but I generally wear a 4 in other brands and their size 4 left quite a bit of room.
I picked up a medium long-tail T-shirt for the Mr. and a Tall dress shirt for him as well. The dress shirt will have to go back because they only make a Large/Tall and really a Medium/Tall is what he needs. But they don't make Medium/Talls.
Why no love for the more slender folk? -

I can't speak to their product, because it hasn't shown up yet. On Tuesday, I ordered a couple of shirts and a pair of jeans. Their website clearly states (during checkout), "Expedited orders received by 3:00 p.m. CT will ship the same day, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. All other orders will ship the next business day." So even if I missed the window on Tuesday, my order should have shipped on Wednesday. I paid for two day expedited shipping, I should have received the goods by today (Friday).
Instead, I got an e-mail yesterday morning (Thursday) indicating that the order had been shipped and offering a tracking number (via UPS). The UPS website returned this for the tracking number, "A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated." I checked and re-checked, and eventually sent them an e-mail around noon their time asking why it didn't appear that the order had been shipped. The response (within 3 hours), "...sorry to inform you that you will not be able to track the package until Friday morning because of the timing of the shipment."
Friday morning I checked again, still no update on the UPS website. E-mailed and called to cancel the order. When I called, I was told that it was their issue and they would indeed cancel the order. Having also sent an e-mail, I sent another updating that I had canceled the order (no need to make someone else look into it if I can save them the time). The response to that e-mail was, "Unfortunately you will be receiving this order, if you dont want the order you can refuse it or I can send you a complimentary label to send it back." RIDICULOUS!
They may have warehouse issues, but they should have let me know as soon as the order didn't go out on time, they should have offered me a credit (for the expedited shipping) then, they certainly should have the first time I contacted them. Then they absolutely shouldn't have told me that the order was going to be canceled if it couldn't be! If I don't get a credit (which I have now explicitly requested), I will have to revise the rating downwards.
It's simple, if you don't give me what I paid for, refund the payment! I haven't seen the clothes yet and I'm already very dismayed with Duluth Trading Co.
UPDATE (still Friday!), they have said that they will credit back the expedited shipping! I do like that they're responsive by e-mail, so I won't lower the rating. If the clothes are as good as I hope, and they make it here soon, I may even raise it. -

I found Duluth Trading Company on the internet several years ago while searching for a source to purchase reflective safety vests. I ended making a purchase at that time then began receiving their mail order catalogs in my mailbox regularly. After about a year of receiving these mailings I finally decided to place another order through their website.
Duluth Trading features a line of exclusive work clothes made exclusively of their fire hose material. I was kind of skeptical at first having read their description of how comfortable and durable these products were, but having regularly worn their fire hose work pants I can honestly say that these are definitely the toughest, most durable pants I've ever worn. They're darn comfortable too. The fabric repels water and any stain that has ever collected on them washes out easily in the laundry.
One of my side jobs consists of setting up road race courses on city streets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. While on the job I usually sit on the tail of a pick up truck or a flat bed truck and drop or pick up orange traffic safety cones, delineators and/or road closure signage. Often I find myself having to jump on and off moving vehicles as the job requires. As you can imagine my jeans need to be pretty durable, and I've certainly ripped more than my share of jeans or cargo pants by doing that, but I've yet to experience any rippage in any of my fire hose work pants.
Two summers ago I flew off the back of a cargo van while on the job. The knee area on the portion of my Levi's jeans completely disintegrated as I tore a chunk off of my knee. Yes, it was as painful as I described it, but I truly think thicker jeans might have reduced the severity of the injury. Coincidentally, I flew off the back of a pick up truck earlier this year when my driver took off before I had properly secured myself. The impact felt the same, but the incident didn't leave a single blemish on my fire hose pants, and with the exception of a ripped jacket sleeve I was able to continue working.
Right after that event I went online to purchase several more pairs of the toughest pants I've ever used. Each pair of pants has eleven pockets also which means I don't have to hang separate sheaths on my belt for my leatherman, my buck knife, my wire cutters, my pliers, my cell phone and my walkie talkie. There are more than enough pockets for all of those tools.
Lately I've been purchasing lots of their DTPro line of work gloves too. These are very similar to the Ironclad brand of work gloves that I used to purchase with extra lining on the palms and the fingertips, a good snug fit with velcro closures that wrap tight around the wrists. I like that second skin feeling I got with those gloves. Duluth's line of work gloves are very similar, but they cost a lot less and when I buy three or more I can enjoy an even more substantial discount. I just purchased a pair of Duluth's waterproof work gloves that still cost less than the non-waterproof Ironclads found at my local hardware store. I'm looking forward to no more cold, wet hands while on the job.
I love Duluth Trading Company. Check them out on the internet. In addition to their tough and comfortable work clothes they carry regular apparel and accessories for men and women, unique tools and gifts and old-fashioned toys. Their funniest product is probably their Anti Monkey Butt Powder. I'll let you find out what that is on your own. -

This company is really what American company's should be. Having been a Carahartt/Levi's guy for years I found Duluth through an online ad. I promptly ordered a pair of the fire hose jeans, and almost a year many, many jobs later I am thoroughly impressed I couldn't wear them out. I had found that the jeans that I ordered didn't really do what I needed them to and found that Bib Overalls would work better I noticed on their web site the NO BULL Guarantee so I called them told them my situation and was curious if they would exchange them and the cost of the up charge. Easy answer for them. A resounding YES please do. I love the pants but couldn't get them to stay where I needed them to (due to my lack of a butt) I would even order the pants again just for a casual wear. Super comphy and not to heavy that you can't wear them in a mild heat. Although I wouldn't wear them in anything warmer than 80º or a high humidity (they have clothing for that). Anyways I can't say enough good stuff about this company

Even though I'm not a plumber, having short legs on a 6'2" frame can pose a challenge. I hoped that finding their Long Tail T-shirts would solve any plumber profile that I may present. It did, but had unexpected side effects. If you're wearing one of those long tail t-shirts, & decide to untuck it, it's necessary to loosen any waist buttons or belts. The problem is that the t-shirt is (as advertised) long, & will wedgie anything in it's path. I guess that's part of the cost of not presenting the wrong public image.
