I love this place. Being a big fan of German and Austrian food this place is simply right up my alley. Even if you are not, the food is very refined and the menu extensive enough where if you want a traditional German meal you can have that, or if you want something more American that is available as well.
This is a place to take your wife or girlfriend out for a distraction-free romantic dinner where you don't have to worry if the food or service will be good enough, both are excellent! Tucked away in a very inconspicuous place in Exton (of all places), you'll find when you walk through the doors that you don't feel like you just turned off Route 30 by a Sunoco, but that you are somewhere very far away. The service is exceptional and the waitstaff are very courteous and well-trained. Definitely dress up (guys that means a jacket at a minimum). I prefer the center room with the large fireplace but I'm sure all the rooms are equally as private and cozy.
Back to the food, the wiener schnitzel is excellent. If you have had an authentic wiener schnitzel in Austria this will be as close to that as you can get on this side of the Atlantic. I can also vouch for the petite file being excellent, very tender and served with a very very tasty glaze.
The only "problem" is that it is an expensive place to eat. This is not your everyday dinner spot, but more likely a place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. However when you do go, you'll find that it's well worth the money. If you've never been here don't be afraid to try this place, even though the menu might seem intimidating, you are guaranteed a fabulous time and an excellent meal.

Last night's dinner was a profound disappointment.

Clearly, they want you to buy fancy water or wine as the iced tea they served was a crappy mix.  In a fine-dining establishment, I expect to get my iced-tea in a stemmed glass, but I expect if I'm paying $3 for that glass that at least it should be made with a tea bag.

I went with my mom and we both ordered salads.  Both salads had nice portions and fresh and flavorful ingredients.

It all goes to heck at the entree.  My companion had the duck.  I had the striped bass.  The menu is somewhat misleading.  The duck was supposed to be served with herbed potato and orange braised endive.  No potato grazed that plate and the duck was on top of what looked like soggy leeks.  The brandy-cherry sauce was more like a savory jus with some cranberries.

The bass was good but greasy.  It was on top of what was supposed to be Brussels sprout fondue.  I wish they would have said that it was full of mushrooms and I would not have ordered it.  There were more schrooms then sprouts...bummer.

We didn't trust them for dessert, so we scooted out of there.  The whole dinner took less then an hour.  The bill was a few cents over $90.

On a positive note, the building and decor are lovely and romantic.  Despite the surroundings, we won't be back.

I book the Inn and restaurant for my wife's birthday and was extremely disappointed, nothing like all the positive reviews I've read from others.

Dinner - We had early reservations and thought we would walk over early to take advantage of the happy hour specials. We walked into the bar and the only other person was the bartender, standing behind the bar and talking on the phone. He immediately made eye contact with both of us and continued walking someone through changing the ink in a printer. a minute later he looked up again; this continued to happen for about 5 minutes. NO acknowledgment we were there, no universal "one minute" gesture, just kept talking. We left and skipped the reservation. I would say this was the rudest I've ever been treated at a restaurant.

Inn - I'm pretty specific in terms of questions when I book a bed and breakfast. King Bed? Private Bath? Air Conditioning? Private Balcony? The only one that was true was the private bathroom. The bed turned out to be a queen, the AC is controlled at the discretion of the innkeeper (it had to be 80 in the room), and the private patio is a concrete slab with a wood fence around it with all the dumpsters adjacent. In terms of the "quaintness", the inn is just old and run down. The people that own it/work there just seem not to care.

    Never again!

All I can ask is "What happened to the nice restaurant we used to dine in?"  That hostess has got to go!  She was not at all interested in seating the customers. Between texting and flirting with a guy at the bar, she had no time for what I assume were her duties.  We will not return.  AWhy would the management put such a disinterested idiot in that position, especially on Thanksgiving weekend, I do not understand.

5 stars for the food, the environment, and the thoughtful service.

It's a quaint country farmhouse converted to a wonderful, romantic restaurant, with tables spread throughout its many rooms, most of which have only a few tables providing an intimate, classic dining experience.

The food is uniformly fantastic, from the classic Caesar salad prepared tableside, to the big, rich Maryland crab cakes wholly comprised of fresh crab meat and plated across a pair of spicy and pesto sauces.  Lobster crepes (stuffed with equally massive amounts of lobster), truly rich lobster bisque, moist tender rack of lamb, and obscenely intense veal tenderloin with exotic mushroom sauce (a special) were equally brilliant examples.
My only observation and minor nit about the food was that the meat was not precisely cooked - all the smaller medium-rare items were solidly medium, while the larger filet mignon, ordered medium, came out medium-rare.  But all were delectable, and very tender.

Desserts were equally brilliant, from the Belgian dark chocolate mousse to the Austrian cheese strudel.

The wine list is reasonably large and well selected, especially considering the location, though the markup is enormous.  Unfortunately, due to the exorbitant licensing fees charged by Pennsylvania, this is more or less unavoidable, and with a careful search (and sufficient knowledge) reasonable value items can be found.

Service was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable (though the average wine knowledge of the servers isn't large).

If you're looking for a fantastic meal in an out-of-the-way, rusticly romantic environment, look no further.

They also have a B&B with quite reasonably priced rooms on site.

Duling-Kurtz is a good restaurant, with a nice, elegant atmosphere and a helpful waitstaff.

They have a menu that has an OK variety, and everybody seems to be a fan of the lemon butter popovers, though I don't prefer them. Their waitstaff is pretty helpful and always offers coffee and tea when taking orders.

I don't like to go to Duling-Kurtz for a casual meal, because it's a little bit old-fashioned to me: the food on the menu, the dining area, and the restaurant itself. It's very classy but it feels very formal. This is a great place to have a wedding or some other formal event like brunch, but in my opinion, the feel of the restaurant isn't very casual, so make sure to wear something nice.

Also, it's not really a great place to take lots of kids, like for a family meal, because it's a very quiet, reserved place. I've seen a lot of elderly people eating there. Another bad thing is that it's a little more on the expensive side, so once again its not a really good place to eat casually with a friend.

Duling-Kurtz has pretty good food and a nice staff. But I rated it 3/5 because I am more into hip, modern eateries.

For a special occasion this place is hard to beat. While pricey, their staff take every effort to make your meal memorable. For a larger party (8 or so) ask to be seated in the dining room with the fireplace. It is like eating dinner in George Washington's dining room - gorgeous! The popovers and lemon curd are not to be missed!

If you're looking for the most incredible popovers with lemon butter (which  I know you are), look no further.  A fancy, romantic and quaint inn where you can enjoy the atmosphere and food by a roaring fire.  If you're looking for a getaway, you can even book a night in the inn!

Duling Kurtz House is quintessential destination dining. A charmingly restored farmhouse in a quiet bucolic setting provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening or special occasion. My friends and I sat in one of the private rooms for a birthday party. Among the best dishes ordered were my ostrich, the veal, the filet, and the salmon. We also shared a few dozen oysters at the table. BTW, I learned at DKH (their monogram) that months with an "R" do not indicate seasonality for oysters. This old wives tale came from the fact that in summer months, oysters just didn't keep.
The overall experience at DKH, from the knowledgeable staff (re: oysters) to the wine list, to the puff pastries, to the starters, mains, and desserts was among the best outside of the city. The only drawback, other than the hour long ride to Exton, may have been the prices. Starters came in on average at 15, mains began in the mid 20's and continued up to 75 for chateaubriand for two.  But, don't stay away for these reasons. Go, even if it's just once. You'll come away happy

My Mom and I have been going to Duling-Kurtz for years and it has always been fantastic! Out of all of the amazing meals I've eaten here, I still go here manly for the warm popovers and lemon curd!
