Oh, I dunno. The old man and I were on a mission for a particular item a few doors down, and on the way back to the car, something in the window caught my eye (okay, yes I'm a window licker/shopper).
It was nice to see a mix of some super douche, goofy-ish, and cute items all in one little place. The prices were pretty well mixed too.
I'm a stupid-t-shirt kinda gal, and I have to hand it to the old man for finding and procuring me a very cute Nara (yeah, I really don't know who the heck that is, nor did I really care . . . but thanks to google, I'm digging his work) T-shirt. Not too sure about the jeans or the guy's clothes, but I'd check this place out again for that little quirky something.
They have a great selection of jeans for women and mens (my dude friend loved his jeans). Plus the salesdudes are extremely helpful and nice, without being too pushy. I also really like their selection of T-Shirts, bags, and hats. Best thing about this place is it is Affordable! I mean do people really WANT to pay over 200.00 for jeans? Me think no.
I came here over the weekend to attempt to find a new pair of "weekend" jeans, and they guy told me he thinks I should go DOWN a size. Plus the jeans were 30-50% off. SOLD! Yeah this place rocks.
I just recently discovered this hip little place in hayes valley as I was strolling around the other day. I am a total "jean" girl, so I am always happy to find a boutique little store like this! Super excited to try on at least 10 pairs and loved the way the they fit. I am a petite girl so most jeans are way too long for me. But the incredibly helpful sales people led me in the right direction and I found the perfect fit! Definite requirement that my butt looks lifted and tight-mission accomplished:)
I wasn't even looking at the prices as I was trying on pair after pair , but was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the jeans were in the $80-$100 range! What does this mean? That instead of being able to afford one pair of jeans, ie True Religion, I was able to walk out buying 3 pairs!!
I will see how they hold up after the wear and tear that I put these through, but so far I am a very happy customer!
After reading these reviews I see that they have a sister store for Paolo shoes-hmmmmm, I know where I am going today!
These jeans make my flat Asian booty look fantastic. I've showed 'em off. However, having read all the other reviews subsequent to my purchase, I'm just waiting for the buttons to come flying off when I sit down too quickly or bend over to pick something up. I'll update if that happens after a washing or two.
I marked off two stars because 1) there's only one dressing room, and 2) a t-shirt I purchased at the same time as the jeans is falling apart.
Since there's just one dressing room, I had to wait quite a while. I even left the store and came back TWICE before trying on the jeans and the shirt. The t-shirt was ridiculously cute, but after one or two wears, I noticed that one of the seams was falling apart. GREAT. I can easily fix it, but who sells a shirt like that? *insert sad face*
On the plus side, the boyfriend picked up the murse of his dreams. Okay, not really "of his dreams," but after scouring a few other places, we came back for the man-bag and for me to try on the jeans.
Calling everyone who doesn't enjoy paying $240 for a pair of cute, well fitted, high quality pair of jeans (which is EVERYONE, right?!):
Check out Duke et Duchess for very reasonably priced well-designed mens and women's jeans. I didn't realize that they only carry their own brand at this store; I originally thought that it was just another expensive name brand boutique when I received the invite for the opening a few months ago.
I recently acquired a pair of Duke et Duchess jeans (price: $79), and the cut, style and fit of them is really pleasantly surprising. I was pretty skeptical too, because usually the only jeans that satisfy me are the really expensive kind that I can barely bring myself to buy anymore. I used to say "I'll never pay more than 200 for a pair of jeans", but sadly, almost all the cute pairs are climbing upwards of 240 nowadays.
Not only are D&D jeans well priced, they're so cute and fit just as nicely as any pair I'd pay double, even triple for. And, I haven't experienced any buttons popping off or other issues as previous reviews have mentioned.
Check it.
after bringing the jeans I spent $70 on BACK to the store for repair twice. I will likely not come back for another pair. the first time the button fell off.
the second time the zipper broke all within a several months of normal usage. the second time the repair took over 6 weeks of waiting.
unacceptable.
so much for the initial top rating...

I was really excited when I first walked into D et D. The jeans were extremely reasonably priced and fit really great. I bought one pair of men's jeans and the second time I wore them the zipper broke. Totally bummed with the faulty zipper. I girlfriend of mine bought a pair of women's jeans and she had the same problem.
I never wear these jeans- bummed!
I bought two pairs of jeans. Their lives ended recently. I thought it was time for a review.
Good: Very comfortable. Good customer service (will repair faulty jeans). Great price. Great look.
Bad: Zipper broke on both pairs. Wore the crotch out of one pair (yes, I grind when I dance). Button fell off both pockets. Lasted approx. 8 months of frequent wearing.
These aren't long term jeans. They will wear out fast. Get ready to buy two pairs to replace your more expensive, longer-lasting jeans.
Oh my god. I keep forgetting to give this place a negative review. :-D
Jeans are complete knockoffs of more expensive denim lines. They DIRECTLY COPY True Religion, Peoples Liberation, Ed Hardy, etc. Quality of the denim is not good-- think Forever 21 denim materials. Everything is made in China, which I don't support either. I can't give this place a good review. Why not come up with your own styles instead of just copying other designers pockets and fits, Duke?
N-O-P-E.
I am a fashion snoot, but it looks like the other reviewers agree with me.
Affordable urban street wear in Hayes Valley is their motto, and they truly deliver. The jeans are all their own brand and are priced at $79/pair for women and $66/pair for men. But you can choose between dozens of styles. Cute, high-quality t-shirts line the middle of the store and helpful, cute staff climb up and down ladders to get sizes on the jeans that line the walls from top to bottom.
They've only been open for three months, so they are still filling in sizes (as of yet, they carry every size but 30 for women's jeans, for example and their men's shirts only go up to a pretty skinny size XL). They also have a limited selection of neo punk rock belts (think rhinestone encrusted skull buckles) and army-type canvas shoulder and waist bags.
But their jeans are the important thing--since designer jeans came into fashion years ago, what you can pay for a pair of denim seems to have no limit. That there is a place in SF to buy jeans for under $100 and feel just as cute as the girl next to you at [insert hip lounge/wine bar here] wearing $235 True Religions is almost as good as being appointed a real Duchess!
UPDATE: My friends have referred to these as my "magic jeans" because they fit well and enhance my badonkadonk. But the BUTTON POPPED OFF and I'm not the only one that has had this problem so boo on that. Minus one star.
.
So the reviews on here are kind of negative and now I'm questioning my review and ultimately my self-worth. This girl could use a self esteem boost for sure. And possibly a slice of chocolate cake so I can eat my feelings.
Is it wrong that I like when salespeople kiss my ass? I want to hear that those jeans make my ass look nice. Or that the blueness of the jeans really highlights my eye color. Or that these jeans will totally save the planet and cure cancer and adopt homeless puppies and shit. Loves it.
Basically I liked the staff and didn't think they were too pushy and the pair of jeans I got was cute and not too expensive. Best purchase ever? No. Nice jeans on a frivolous shopping outing? Yes.
Also, I really do want that chocolate cake...
I don't know if I got lucky in my experience at Duke & Duchess.
Let me start with that I hate jean shopping. It's a horribly masochistic activity that I wouldn't have gotten myself into if I, like an idiot, hadn't worn a sun dress on a cold day. Desperation (and procrastination as I was really in need of some jeans) lead me into this shop.
I walked in and a sales girl walked up to me right away. Yes, I have to say that it was a little pushy and intimidating, but I was there to get jeans so I might as well get helped, right? So the prices are set. Women's jeans are $75 and mens are $69. I only looked through the women's choices. Although the prices were the same, the quality and style differences were severe. Yes, there were some jeans that weren't that great but at the same time, I actually found a pair that I really liked and fit me.
I suggest not walking into this shop alone. Beware: the sales people will do the whole "OMG! You look sooooooooo fantastic in that!" for everything you put on. I was so happy to have my boyfriend with me to tell me what was really going on. (Thank you for putting up with me honey!)
If you know what you are getting into when you walk into this place, you do have the opportunity to find something very nice.
Geez, I wonder if the people who work here are on comission.
Never have my wife and I been hounded so much with sales people who sound they are purposely trying to sound like Paris Hilton
"Ohh my god!!! THOSE JEANS LOOK SO GOOD AND I WOULD NEVER JUST SAY THAT!"
Within 5 minutes of being in the store I was developing a head ache from hearing "OMG THAT'S HOT!"
Did anyone notice their logo on the jeans is a ripoff of Disney?
This place sticks out like a sore thumb in Hayes Valley.
69 bucks for Men's jeans? Why the hell have I been spending $200 dollars on designer jeans?
Italian Denim, but made in China. the staff is very nice. I didn't end up buying anything, cuz I didn't really like the fit, but the girl I was with got a pair. They do tend to stretch out as most jeans do. Buy them tight.
After reading the last two reviews, I am a little embarrassed to say that I actually bought a pair of jeans here. I guess I fell for the over-complimentary sales people and the vanity sizing...not since I was 12 years old have I fit into a size 24!
Unfortunately, I am really unhappy with the quality of the jeans. All of their jeans sell for $75, which I don't find expensive, but the quality feels like a pair of jeans I could have picked up at old navy for under $20. Instead of the clothes, you are paying for their fancy storefront and shopping bags!
I went for a walk with my mom and this time we decided to take a different direction than our usual. I have always wanted to explore the boutiques in this area but never really had the time to take the walk. I saw this store and when i went inside i thought that the prices would be outrageous; i was wrong. The long blonde hair sales associate wearing a black top and light straight leg jeans with brown boots made my mom and i feel very comfortable to shop in and very honest. I walked out of the store with 3 pairs of jeans for the price of one and that's with tax included which i'm still in shock. You don't find great jeans nowadays for an affordable price that fit great and the material is not cheap. I definitely will be back to shop for some adorable t-shirts. Very happy and thank you.
First off, brilliant move with the hot, life like plastic sculptures of human females. My button came off the pants but it was probably my done lap over my belt. Either way, Levi's button's have never busted on me and I have gotten fat in Levi's.
I love this place, well done, make sure to tell people to wash the garment before they alter the length. If you told me I probably didn't listen.
Look forward to new design changes and longevity.
Cute little shop in Hayes Valley! I love their selection and the hip attire they hold. I went there when I was waiting for a table at Suppenkuche and strolled in thinking the prices were going to be outrageous. To my surprise, every thing was very reasonable. They have cute hats (I bought one for only $10), bags, shirts, jeans, and more. Good place to get cute stuff without breaking your wallet.
What a fun shop. This place has plenty of fun style jeans and button up shirts with over sized collars. I am a big fan of the big collar because if wearing a suit it gives the outfit a real Pop. The clothes were comfortable, Super trendy, and make for a great outfit any day of the week! Can't wait to head back to pick up another pair of jeans.
Wow! For once, I'm on the good end of a "hate 'em or love 'em" establishment. I had a great experience. I walked in told the sales person . . .I think her name was Mary, but it could be power of suggestion. . . my shape issues and the first pair of jeans were a perfect fit. I never listen to sales person's compliments, so I can't recall if she said the jeans look good on me or not.
I've had the jeans one day so I don't know how they will hold up, plus I'm a Gap or Levi jeans person, so I have no idea how they compare in quality to other signature jeans, but I've also never seen a pair of designer jeans under $100.
I like how they fit my body. My waist is 2 sizes smaller than my hips so most of the time if I can get a pair of jeans past my bum, I look like a poster girl for a miracle weight loss ad around the waist. Most of the time I get stuck buying low rise. So, I'm very happy I was able to buy a pair of jeans I can bend over in without exposing my propers to all who pass buy.
i bought 2 pairs of jeans here. they fit very nicely in the store and the sales people were very complimentary of how they made my booty look. about a few wears later, the button popped off of one of them as i grazed the button on a chair. no big deal, but then it happened again and the zipper wouldn't stay up either!
i went back and they said they would have it fixed no problem in a week. a week goes by and they say they don't have them and didn't know where they were. then another few days and they tell me they have found them and i can pick them up. when i get to the store, they give me a bag with 2 pairs of jeans in them. they said to keep the extra pair for all my trouble. sweet, right?!
wrong, the jeans they gave me were NOT my jeans but just a brand new pair of the jeans that I brought in. you probably think i'm crazy, but i didn't want a new pair, i wanted the pair i had already paid to get shortened and taken in (i lost some weight since buying these) and they were practically custom fit for me. so i go back into the store and was like "um, these aren't mine, these are a brand new pair."
the girls all looked completely confused and then one walked up to me and said, "oh here they are. we put them in the damaged pile, so they haven't been fixed." so basically they LIED to me about my jeans being ready. WTF?!?! til this day, i still DO NOT NOT HAVE MY JEANS!!!! Shannon is the manager and she seems to be avoiding me when I call. I don't get it. how hard is to to fix a zipper and put a button back on?
will update if/when i ever get my jeans back. this has now been 2 weeks 10 phone calls, 2 trips to the store and counting.
DO NOT BUY JEANS FROM HERE, they are not worth your trouble.
UPDATE: they called and said they will have my jeans by 6pm tonight. we'll see if that's true. they are also giving me $25 off my next pair, but to be honest, i don't think i want another pair of jeans form here after all of this.
I wouldn't buy jeans here. Well, that is, unless you want to *buy* jeans, but not actually *have* any jeans to wear.
Things started off well here. I popped in one day after my roommate said she got a pair of jeans here that she liked. The salesgirl, Shannon, was super nice and cute, and I fit into jeans that were a size smaller than I was expecting. Sweet! They are totally cute - the Carol (which, I have to say, is not the cutest name. No offense if that is like the owner's mom or something. Although, would that make them mom jeans??).
But the zipper broke after a few wears - it wouldn't stay up. I thought, oh man, I knew I shouldn't have gotten that smaller size! Good thing long, flowy shirts are in style, right? But then the zipper broke on both of my roommate's pairs, so we took them in and they were like, yeah this has happened before. They sent them off to get fixed - great, right? It was going to be a week, which was kind of a pain, but no huge deal.
We got a call after a week that the seamstress was really busy and that it would be another week. Another week went by, another call, another week. It's been about a month now, and I just finally went to pick them up today. I was told we would get a 30% discount on our next pair, and I said (nicely, I think), "to be honest, I'm not going to buy another pair of jeans here, unless they are free." My roommate was told something about a gift certificate, so Shannon said she will talk to the owner and see what she can do. Now, I know it's not her fault, and she has been very nice throughout the whole process (and I think I have been very nice and patient as well). I do think once they realized the seamstress was busy, they should have considered taking them somewhere else, though. I hate to give a local business a bad review, but this has just not been a good experience. This is subject to change if I do end up with a gift certif/free pair of jeans/money back for the first pair, etc.
It is a western looking closet, filled with jeans ala Chinoise hands...Made in CHINA...Duke-d prices....will pass. Didn't care for their T-shirts either. Best wishes...as they DuKE it out ...Although the paper sign says "SALE $10" most of their flimsy materialed jeans are about $70 - $80. Be prepared to pay up the hollowbummz.
I bought a pair of jeans here shortly after the store opened, months ago. The sales people were very helpful, the jeans fit great and feel great. I like them a lot. But, as with many other people I've had problems with the buttons on the jeans. There are three on the pair I got, one on each back pocket and one on the front. Over a period of several months each of the buttons has fallen off, with the last one falling off mid day yesterday.
Rather than taking them in for repair, I'm just putting new buttons on myself. I still love the fit and feel of these jeans, but I won't be back. I'm not very rough on clothing, and I like my jeans to be high enough quality to last several years at least, especially at these prices.
Im not sure how this place stays open. Their clothes are complete rip offs of Ed Hardy and True Religion. I see a lawsuit in their near future. The sales people were very nice. I dont remember the last time someone kissed my ass so much.
BUYER BEWARE: NO REFUNDS ON RETURNS!!! This place needs a lesson on customer service. Its a sad commentary on this modern life. I live around the corner and granted, its nice to have a place to buy cheapish but stylish looking jeans in the neighborhood. Or so I thought, blissfully for about a year, until last week. The zipper broke on the jeans I bought for my bf. No big deal, I thought. This is SF, the land of the independent business, and they'll probably bend over backwards to make this right. Oh so sadly mistaken! I was told: Yeah, we'll fix 'em, but we have to charge you and we're just going to send them out somewhere so you're probably better off taking them to a seamstress you know. Um, ok. Hum. I was disappointed, but since I really just wanted to get another pair of jeans into rotation in my boyfriends closet asap (only 1 other pair, oh, the wear and tear of a boy!), and they were having a sale, I told the guy I'd grab a new pair (mind you, button fly) and take them to my bf around the corner at home and see if they worked, and I'd return them if they didn't. No problem! Oh so sadly mistaken, again! Just my luck, bf doesn't like button fly, and back to the store I went to return them. I was told: no refunds, only exchanges. What?!? I was here 10 minutes ago! I told you I lived around the corner and was taking them to the bf to try on! I'm not going to buy another pair of your *%/@# zipper jeans, what am I supposed to do?! Let me talk to your manager! Well, the manager wasn't there, and I couldn't get his number to call him, and I could come back on a weeknight if I wanted to see him. Well, I'm still too angry to go back in and talk to them, and given the attitude of the guy who helped, I doubt I'll get anywhere in arguing their stupid policy. This just makes me sad to even have to write this, really. Fix the jeans for free, give me a refund, let me move on. It seems simple to me....Or at least get a sign that says NO REFUNDS in big letters next to the cash register. Sheesh.
The most worthless pants! Great fit at first and were my favorite for about 2 weeks then all three buttons fell off and zipper broke. Had zipper and back pocket button fixed, buttons fell off within three days.. So upset I bought these..
Great jeans, great prices! I also love the manager, Shannon- she is super helpful!
Like some others, I also bought a pair of jeans here and I feel like a complete ass! The one great thing about the jeans is that they are LONG (I am 6ft) so finding women's long jeans, under $100 is always great. I thought $79, not so bad. However the quality of the jeans are terrible (like another reviewer said, they are like Old Navy jeans) . As the sales girl (who was a complete suck up, it was almost embarrassing!) stated you should 'wear them once, air dry, and the wear them again and then you can dry and they will remain a great fit'. This did not work, the jeans are now waaaay too big (and they have a strict no return policy). According to the label the jeans are 100% cotton, most expensive jeans have a little spandex or something that allow stretch. I wish that I would have looked at the label, cause 100% cotton will never get its original shape back and I would have NEVER bought. I guess that is a semi-expensive lesson to learn.
On another note, these jeans have a striking similarity, to many jeans out there. Not the cut, but also the back pocket designs and the "D" is exactly like the D in Disney, which I found weird. Can you say lawsuit?
Basically SAVE your money, go buy Gap jeans (which do contain spandex) or pay a little more for better jeans. I would NOT recommend these jeans. (I expect the place to close within the year).
I love shopping in Hayes Valley and I was ecstatic when I found the new jean store : Duke & Duchess. Their prices are reasonable and the jeans made me look hot like the mannequins on the window. The staff was awesome too, they were friendly and helpful instead of pushy. I am looking forward to going back to buy a couple of t-shirts.
