6 reviews for Duffy's Tavern
Upon entering, you can't help but notice the dank cat pee smell. Service was incredibly slow. I ordered fried haddock with french fries. Pretty easy for a New England sea food joint, I thought. When it arrived, there were potato chips rather than fries, and I was informed that they had run out of fries. At 6:00 on a Wednesday night. The chips were supposedly made at Duffy's, but someone forgot to cook them. They were soggy to the point of actually being floppy, and were slimy with oil. The fish was lukewarm, and the batter had no crunch.
This place is supposed to be some kind of institution, so maybe I just hit it on a bad night, but I can't see what the attraction is.
I am not sure what all the hype is about. Our experience went a little something like this:
A late lunch on a lazy vacationy weekday. The wood paneled decor and collages filled with pictures of various locals only added to the charm of the place. We got white chowder and red chowder (both from a can), clam cakes-they were pretty good, stuffies (too much old bay seasoning) and a crab &shrimp sandwich (Very chopped up shrimp and crab that really lacked flavor).
I need to add that following this late lunch, my husband experienced severe stomach pains and vomitting. He had not eaten anything afterwards and was sick for the rest of the night....
While the bill only came to 20 dollars, it just wasn't what were hoping for!!!

I am looking forward to the outdoor area in a few months. The seafood here is terrific and the service is friendly. Check it out for a real Rhode Island treat.

It kind smells in here, but that's just part of the charm. Just got back from eating at Duffy's for a Northeastern seafood experience. It was pretty good. I ate some quahog (gigidy gigidy) clams, stuffies, and lobster. This all sounds so strange, but truth be told, it all settled nicely in my stomach. Good times at the tavern.

i sorta-kinda enjoyed a dinner here...A LOT of food, massive portions. my dish had something crazy like 3 whole lobsters (i somehow got suckered into trying some of the slimy, oozy pale green junk too...i later learned that was its liver). the lobster was fine, nothing more. also tried steamers, some waaaay-over breaded stuffed clams, and some kind of deep-fried clam cake. the first steamer i tried was grody; i ended up trying a second, for good measure. -still grody. i felt the food to be mediocre; the overall experience -OK

One of the treasurers of North Kingstown. Duffy's is a great place for a classic New England dinner. Sea Food is the deal here, including the local lobsters! Also a great place for a drink.
