There tends to be only one reason I find myself in this bar - there's a show at the 9:30 Club. And it's the perfect place to stop before a show. Convenient, never too crowded, and decent food.
There's really nothing Irish about this place. It is far FAR from your typical Irish pub. There is none of that same decor or character here. It's just a casual, dive-y neighborhood bar.
The wings here are some of the best I've had in the DC area. Yeah, for reals. The wings are just the right amount of crispy and of good quality and size. The hot sauce is actually hot. And not just hot, it's really hot - and oh so delicious. The blue cheese dipping sauce is ho-hum, but not bad at all. Very superb wings. I was impressed. And I will be back for more.
The beer list is alright. Nothing extensive, but enough diversity to satisfy most every beer taste. And there's Big Buck Safari and darts. -

Duffy's summed up in one sentence: Best cheeseburger I've had since returning to DC, an outstanding porter, and a stone's throw from the 9:30 Club.
Nuff said. -

Great food and a good time here before catching a concert at The Black Cat. We had a couple of hours to kill so we walked over to Duffy's and had a few pitchers of brew and dinner.
I had a bacon cheeseburger that came with Tot's instead of fries. There must have been a half of a bag of tot's on each of our plates. It was insane. The burger was large and delicious. Our server while not very talkative was friendly and efficient and keep the pitchers refilled as soon as we emptied one. -

When I was in dental school... this is our to go happy hour on friday after school.
Mr duffys is very nice.. great owner.. the service is great.. the girls know us as we always get a table of 15-20 people almost every friday. Drinks are not too expensive.. the chicken wings are great.. try their fish and fry..
Mr Duffy is from jacksonville and a big gator fan ( Go gators).. we sometimes talk about florida where I went to undergrad..
overalll, this is by far the best irish bar in DC..Listed in: Best Happy Hour

My buddy had a groupon worth $40. It was a field day.
We got two pitchers at $15 bucks each. I had a some chicken tenders which I thought were okay.
My friend had the monster burger which is a burger nestled between two grilled cheese sandwiches. RIDICULOUS. But delicious, came with some tater tots too. WINNING.
Service was fast, but the place is kinda in need of renovations. Also, I wished they would've turned on a few light blubs. -

Quick Summary:
As I was watching college football (Bama crushing UF), I'm gonna go with a football reference and equate Duffy's to a first and 1 and running a half-back off tackle for a gain of 5 yards. Not a homerun by any means, but a
solid gain!
Back story:
Dropped by to pick up some take-out on a Saturday night. This place seemed cool. I liked how it wasn't slammed and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Journey was playing on the juke box and there were obviously people singing as often is the case when Journey is on the jukebox and you've had a couple of beers aka "singing juice."
I ordered the chicken strips and came away pretty impressed. Duffy's is a bar after all so these weren't gourmet wings. However, they didn't feel like they were frost bitten and quickly thrown into the oven like some other places. Lots of wings and a side of ranch and blue cheese dressing is what you get for under $10. You could really do worse than going here for a quick bite. -
Review from Sahar R.
Duffy's is a dive/sports/maybe kinda Irish bar by the 9:30 club. For a casual neigborhood bar it's great. There's a friendly bouncer who greets you with "Hey Sweets" and will gladly talk basketball anytime, attentive staff, and many large flat screen TVs. I luckily arrived here on the Miami Heat/LeBron James hater night and possibly more lively than any other night. On other nights I am thinking this is the place to chill and just enjoy a few drinks. It attracts all ages and all scenes, but looks like most of the patrons live in the area.
Oddly enough, that night they ran out of Guiness. Which makes me question the "Irish Bar-ness" of this place. The waiter was super apologetic and offered the explanation that they tapped out cause Guiness was a popular order that night. Ummm ok. I got a Magners instead.
+1 for the defacing of the Jerome Bettis in the bathroom -
Review from Rob P.
There's really nothing particularly special about Duffy's. So why am I giving it 5 stars?
DC is a city with a distinct personality, and bars to match. In DC, a bar is more than just a place to go drink a beer, chat with the bartender, or hang out with friends. No, in DC, a bar is a place for networking and maneuvering during the week, and for partying on the weekend. If that's what you're into, you'll have no trouble finding it.
For the rest of us, there are places like Duffy's - affordable, relaxed, and non-judgmental. There's no "gourmet pub fare" here, just good old fashioned fried bar food. But it's good bar food, don't get me wrong. The wings, are very good, and the other menu choices aren't bad either.
The beer selection is OK. There are a few good drafts, though I hope they put a Great Lakes handle back on tap soon. It's not a craft-beer lovers paradise (Chuchkey would be a better bet for that). Prices aren't low, but they're acceptable for DC.
Lastly, I think it's hilarious that anyone even use the word "dive" in describing Duffy's. Only in DC is this bar anything close to it. -

We ordered Take out from this place because we were walking around looking for a place to eat and we had the kiddos with us... so they wouldn't let us in. Actually they wouldn't even let me in since i didnt have my ID on me.
We got the rueben, pulled pork and some wings. THey wings were pretty good and so was the reuben. The pulled pork was blah......
I might try this place again without kids and an ID to see if the experience is any better. -

Kraft singles on the shepherd's pie? For shame. Have you no dignity? The ground beef needed seasoning anyways, but the cheese squares were such a turn-off. Stirring in the offensive squares didn't help as much as the diagonally cut toast. I was pretty sad at the mockery made of one of my favorite comfort foods. I'm sure it was a step up from their version of the Double Down, though; I read the description of the Monster Burger with equal parts horror and fascination: "1/2 pound beef patty with grilled onion and bacon, between two grilled cheese sandwiches." Duffy's, you slay me.
Waffled between the three-star pub experience and the two-star food, then rounded down since restaurant is in the business name. I promise I wasn't that mad over them being out of Kilkenny. Mixed clientele (sighted jeggings at the jukebox), brusque bartenders, assorted quality range of TVs over the bar. Decor was all over the place, but I dug most of the quotes on the walls and would probably have sported the string of Guiness lights myself. I'll be back for a pint, but I'm leaning towards taking a pass on the food.
P.S. Thanks for not kicking us out when my friend from high school dropped a clean glass after the second round of shots. He was born a moron. -

The only thing they have going for it is the location. The bartender I dealt with was rude, but she may have just been having a bad day. I went here before a concert, but I probably wont return.

So, an Asian, a Black and a Jew walk into a bar... Nope, no punchline for a change, this is really what we did last night.
All things considered, Duffy's is a solid little pub. Then again, I could amuse myself for hours with a toothpick and some pocket lint, but still, I enjoyed my time here. The bartenders are your no-nonsense, sarcastic types, which I guess one would expect in such an establishment. Pretty good selection of beers on tap including Guinness (duh), Harpoon IPA and Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold. (They were out of Kilkenny, unfortunately, but they normally carry it.)
Duffy's is kind of a dive-y Irish pub; you've got the requisite, trite Irish knickknacks thrown about, as well as beer signs, Miller Lite ads all over the walls, green tinsel everywhere, and Jameson's products on full display over the bar. There's lots of seating up front, a decent size bar beyond, and a back room with another little bar, a few tables and a jukebox that carries N'Sync (Yay!) The coed bathroom boasts a life-size picture of Jerome Bettis in drag thanks to a wily customer or two. I personally feel better when a gay 240 pound black man watches me urinate, and I know you do, too.
As is the case with many U ST establishments, I give this place props for diversity among the staff and guests. You've got your older regulars permanently stationed at the bar, young professionals of all races, staffer looking dudes in tweed suits and bow ties, college hipsters, losers and bimbos, fratty looking folks and regular Joes and Janes of all persuasions, all of whom drink in quiet harmony.
Duffy's is a "no-frills" kind of place. Don't expect any contrived excitement here; this is just a nice little place to knock back a few with some friends and kick it.Listed in: Low Douche Factor Bars, Me & U (Street)

Duffy's USED to be a place with good Irish food, the fish and chips were great. Now they have a generic bar food menu, lost most of the vegatarian options, and so there's no reason to go there anymore - you can get much better food at any of a dozen places within three blocks, and better beer at even more places.
Sad, they threw away their one selling point.
Also, the last time I went (which will be the last time) the wait staff was rude, slow, and unhelpful. -
Review from Mike S.
Honestly, this place really didn't do anything for me. My take is quite similar MiC g.'s experience. In other words, it is an "Irish bar" in the sense that there is Irish shit everywhere and they have some lesser seen Irish beers (haven't seen Kilkenny or Killian's in a bar in a while). While I truly appreciated seeing a picture of the love of my life (Galway, Ireland) in the bathroom, it's not quite enough for me to like a bar (although it certainly helps).
It's relatively cheap and there is a pretty solid unpretentious crowd, which is always nice, but I am not really sold.Listed in: U Know It!, Erin Go Bragh!

The beer was alright. I don't like how they run out of their $2 Happy Hour Specials but don't replace is with anything else. The food specials are good and cheap. The size is nice and so are the other customers. I wouldn't mind going here again, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to try again.

This place surprised me. I was expecting something dark, dingy, and smelly, but Duffy's is just a bar with chill people and lots of TVs. I like that it's kind of off the beaten path, off bustling U Street.
Some friends and I met up here to watch a Caps playoff game. Even though it wasn't that crowded, it took awhile to wait at the bar for a drink, so I made sure to get a pitcher when I finally got someone's attention. It was the same deal for ordering food. I got the veggie sliders, which were perfect to me. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just something to munch on while the game was on. They came with tots. Yay, tots!
My boyfriend got the wings. He ordered them mild, but he said they were super spicy.
I ended up really liking this place, and I would totally go back if I was just looking for a chill place to catch up and drink. -

NOT going here again. First, Duffy's staff and owners know they're the only option around Florida Ave / U St. NW for straights and neighborhood locals. OK - that's cool. But to actually slog customers off because they're the only game in the neighborhood doesn't cut it.
First, after umpteenth times of being in there, they STILL treat their regulars like they're thugs and petty criminals by DEMANDING a credit card or pay-to-play (i.e. pay BEFORE we serve you).
Second, and as annoying, is the regular crowd consists literally of the "just out of college and this is my first real job" bunch of yuppies "urban pioneering" in "da hood". So, you get the "BUCKET of Pabst Blue Ribbon Cans" crowd. (i.e. cheap drunks still buying the college bar scenes in the big city types.)
THIRD, and most outrageous, is the owner and his personal chumps that come in and take over the bar! Despite their posted hours, my son and I were "asked" to leave by the bouncer after ordering our first beers - at 11:15pm! It was a slow night, granted. A Tuesday night to be exact. They told us the kitchen was closed. They then let everyone else (about 10 of the owners friends) stay for their OWN private party - with food served!!
This same owner and a couple of his friends plopped down next to me at the bar one evening, and then proceeded to insult and make fun of every single patron they could see at the bar! OUTRAGEOUS!!
This "pub" is nothing more than a personal way for the owner and his chumps (who all look like inbreeds from Vermont or somewhere in the Great North Woods) to finance their own drinking habits an love of sub-par mediocre food. (I mean come on! TATOR TOTS with cheese?? If one is a TRUE chef and that is his claim to fame, just how serious could he possibly be taken??
I won't go there again. "Da Hood" is starving for a REAL pub and a class act! LeDroit Park deserves much, much better!! Any takers out there?? For every lager lout who claims Duffy's is anything better than a one-star dive with an ungrateful owner, then there are 100 higher-class customers in LaDroit Park BEGGING for an alternative!!!! -

After my last post about our the comedy of errors on our last visit,"Duffy" reached out to me to acknowledge the service mishaps and express his sincere apologies for our dining experience. He went so far as to offer and send a gift certificate for a future visit.
That goes a LONG way. So, I will go back again and dine on Duffy and hope that he has taken the steps to improve the service. This could be a good thing with the right folks.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Graham C.
So, after hearing that Duffy's serves the best wings in the city, I went down here for lunch on this past Sunday. This is indeed an Irish bar as some have noted, due to the large amount of Irish flair on the walls, but it's not that Irish. It is nice to have a bar like this in this area. It still amazes me how much the housing stock has renovated.
So I ordered the wings and fried pickles due to reviews on Yelp. When the wings came out, they looked sad. They had the medium sauce on them, but it was applied unevenly, so you had to rub them around the plate. Decent sauce. Not your traditional wing sauce. And they're fried, like Hooters wings, so that was different. But not the best wings in the city.
The fried pickles are fried pickle spears, which is a problem. The outside is a crispy shell and the inside is a limp flaming hot pickle. Not fun to eat. Probably better if you cut them into chips I'd imagine.
They were out of Bloody Mary's and Cream ale, which was sad. The bartenders, two girls, had tons of attitude, which I can get behind. There was no apologies for being out of anything, and I got the idea that they didn't really care if I liked my food or not. As a New Yorker, I can appreciate this mentality. But it really only works if you're a regular and the food is actually good. If I lived about 4 blocks closer, I'd probably come here a lot. But it's not worth the trek for me. -

Great deals on tall boys every day, pretty good wings (not best in DC as all the hype states) and a overall solid dive bar. Not sure where the Irish comes in. Just because you serve fish and chips (AMAZING house made tartar sauce BTW) and have Guinness on draft does not make you an Irish bar.
Great spot before a show at the 9:30 Club, and a nice cheap alternative for the neighborhood. -

Can't go wrong with endless bloody mary's for $10 on Sundays. The ambiance of the place is a bit drab and the food is not spectacular, but I would return for drinks. Great place int he back to play darts. Bar staff not overly friendly and could use a short lesson on simply smiling to the customers. Again, we'll go back, but it wil be when we are transiting that area and not a situation where we will go out of our way to go there.

I liked this place within the first five minutes because, after I arriving early to a happy hour meeting with a friend, I was delighted to find Italian soccer playing on most of the big screen TVs.
Once I got the menu, I liked Duffy's even more because I found the word "vegetarian" under most sections of the menu: Veggie sliders, vegetarian lasagna, and vegetarian quesadillas definitely stood out. I can't say that I've been to too many divey Irish pubs where this is the case.
Once my friend arrived he already knew he was going to order the wings since they seem to be what Duffy's is mainly known for. He also decided to go for the cringe-worthy Monster Burger ($10.95) which comes with grilled onions, cheese, bacon, and served between two grilled cheese sandwiches. And a side of fries. Of course.
I chose the more sensible Veggie Burger ($8.95) which comes with a choice of $.50 add-ons such as mushrooms, grilled onions, and multiple types of cheese. I was disappointed to find, however, that the mushrooms were not available. I decided to forgo the fries and go for the steamed veggies instead.
During dinner, my friend shocked me by eating all of the wings and half of the monster burger, plus all the fries. Clearly he enjoyed most of it.
My burger was good, the patty was a little too soft but it was decent-sized. The flavor wasn't quite all there but it wasn't entirely bad. I can only imagine that it would've been a whole lot better with the grilled mushrooms. The veggie portion was sizeable and filing, I didn't miss the lack of fries.
As for the service, our server was very nice, yes, but the water refills were slow to come, and the food itself took quite a while to arrive. Then again, this is mostly a dive bar so I won't be too critical of that.
All in all an ok experience. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to come back, but if I happen to be passing by and the craving for a Guinness sets in, I wouldn't hesitate in coming in.Listed in: Sit and Drink

I like to consider myself a regular here. My main draws -
1. tater tots are AMAZING and they give you lots of them
2. dogfishhead beer on tap
3. fried pickles are huge slices of pickle and delicious
4. they chased down a guy when they accidentally gave him my debit card to close his tab (and paid for my drinks)
5. they don't close during tiny snow flurries like the rest of this city
6. great staff who host food truck meetings and seems to be happy that you're there

It's too bad this place has horrible service. It's the perfect location for pre-9:30 Club drinks and food, but do not go if you expect decent interaction w/ wait staff and/or food to be served before the show starts.
Really unfortunate b/c they have tater tots. -
Review from Nicole L.
This was a good stop before 930 club. I walked right into the bar, running late from not being able to find parking. I walked right past the bouncer he was just sitting there I didn't even realise he was a bouncer. However he was cool and didn't make a big deal of it.
Somehow I always ended up going towards U st for a drink. It's right across from the 930 club, more of a neighborhood irish pub. There was a steady stream of people rolling in, mostly local residents. They scored an extra star for carrying Kilkenny Cream ale! My new fav. pre-930 club hangout! -

I'm from out of town and a friend recommended this joint to me. We were in the area to see a show at the 9:30 Club and this was a convenient place to dine.
Our waiter didn't seem to be knowledgeable about any of the drinks or anyting on the menu. He often seemed confused by our questions and had to look at the menu himself. Furthermore, we tried to close our tabs out early while eating so we could leave for the show as soon as we were done eating. The waiter was confused by this and never would take our cards. We ended up closing everything out when we left and he didn't give my friend a pen to sign his receipt with and I needed change. We had to track him down at the bar to finish paying.
Next time I'm in the area I'm going to try out the ethiopian places b/c it's surely better than an Irish Pub. Regardless, the burger was pretty good and the fries were freshly fried and yummy. -

Great place to kick back some Yuenglings and some food before a show at the 9:30. Place is a decent size, although the bar is small but there are enough tables and seats inside.
Food is good, I devoured the corned beef sandwich and I enjoyed the tots. Service was great. While it didn't necessarily have the vibe of an Irish bar, it was still a nice experience. -

I won't make this a long rant, b/c well, there's just no need. Ranging from a menu of crappy app's to bar staff that pours warm beers and isn't quite sure what to do with the dusty liquor bottles behind them... there just really is no need to venture off the beaten path for an establishment such as this. I really hoped that I was finding a hidden gem (which after living in DC for 6 years, I still find!!) but instead, I found a lovely walk past pan handlers to an unwelcoming dump. I've tried this place on about 3 occasions, and each time it's the same. On this last visit, the owner was even nice enough to refer to me as a "f**king Fa***ot" as I walked in. Nice. Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know. But as an owner, you really should know better.
***Update for the owners comment***
I joined my friends who were already inside, if they were not there I assure you I would have gone somewhere else. I ordered beer from your bar, I paid my tab (tipped the bar staff of course), and I left. I drank no out side beer, caused no problems, and was at no time during my visit asked to leave. This was my first beer of the day so I was by no means drunk or out of control. I was told that the person who was so kind to me was the owner, if that's not the case and he was just perhaps a manager or some other position unrelated to the establishment, then I apologize.
However, please note that this is not my first visit to this bar and the service/F&B quality is about inline with all my other trips. I think horrible & great (as you can see with my reviews, I award praise just as easily to those who deserve it) experiences at bars/restaurants are exactly what Yelp is for. So a stranger can read opinions and make their own decisions on what they'd like to do. I'm not the only person that's yelped something, allow the to readers to figure it out for themselves.
While my review might be one of the harshest, if you look down the list you aren't exactly glowing with praise so I don't really feel out of line here. In the past 6 months, you have as many 4 star as you have one star ratings and the rest are 2's and 3's. I wish you luck with your business, besides, I'm sure your many regulars don't even want my kind in there.
Also, I'm sorry to the bar staff for my unkind words. Warm kegs are often times beyond their control and the liquor comment was a bit snarky but I think is due mostly b/c this is primarily a beer bar.Comment from andrew d. of Duffy's Irish Restaurant & Pub 8/17/2010

Review from Sincere T.
Washington, DC
I live in the neighborhood so, for convenience, I'm partial to a place that is walkable and doesn't require a drawn out process to get ready for a couple of beers and dinner. I've been to Duffy's 4 times over the past years, in 3 month increments. The minimal sampling size of visits really shouldn't be treated as a limited base to write a negative review, but truly the most often I can go there without remembering how unenjoyable each visit was. I think the reason is that every time I go, it's horrible. I honestly want to like this place, but can't for the life of me do it. I'll list my reasons:
1. It smells awful inside. If I were just going for some beers this wouldn't be such a problem, but when you want a clean meal, a dank smell really kills your appetite and is flat out gross. I won't go so far as to say it's unsanitary inside, but you get that sense.
2. The beer selection, while good, is almost always warm. More so in the summer.
3. The prices, while not unreasonable, are far too high for a dive bar. Make up your mind that you're going to serve the crowd that just wants to get drunk or not. I'll gladly spend $8 for a domestic beer in the right setting, but I can't justify anything in the $5 neighborhood to sit in a smelly basement. One of the two - dive bar feel or trending higher prices - have to give.
4. The food is mediocre at best. Burgers are overcooked, turkey club is rubbery, and selection is weak. Tater tots are a plus and the quesadillas are surprisingly good, but again, on all counts these should be easy for a bar to cook. I'm thinking of Desperados, which while slightly different in format, does a great job on their food for the same price point so you're already behind the curve there.
5. The bathrooms. Keeping with the overall grossness of this place, the bathrooms are truly disgusting. Someone needs to do an overall cleaning job to the doors (caked on blacked grime on white doors) that automatically make you lose your appetite. Again, if this place were just about pitchers n' pukin', bathrooms are fine. You want to serve dinner and a few beers to the afterwork early thirty somethings? Get to the cleaning store and fast.
On the plus side, they have tons of tvs for games. And that's about it.
Everytime I've been there I've spent no less than $50 for an appetizer, two entrees, and a pitcher. These are not dive bar prices. Again, if it weren't so disgusting I'd consider this to be a reasonable price considering options in the neighborhood. I was just there last week, so maybe in my next visit in three months things will be better. -

If I could give negative stars, I would. They were out of the first THREE things we tried to order. When our 4th choices finally came to the table (45 minutes later), they were inedible.
The place is dark, dingy, dirty, and the food is deplorable. -

Clarification - For those people who may have read my review on Duffy's and actually believed that the conversation that I wrote actually took place in real life, please message me. I have a bridge I have to sell to you.
For further disambiguation, here is an exchange between Mr. Duffy and myself that should dispel any misconceptions about pubs, bars, Yanks, the Irish, and Duffy's.
Hi Mic,
I understand you wrote it to be funny. But the parts of your review where you actually quote me saying things I would never say are very insulting to me and I would appreciate it if you could remove that portion of your review. My father is from Ireland, I have visited many, many times and am quite familiar with Irish history. I have no problem with your actual review and saying you don't feel its an Irish Pub, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I just feel quoting a conversation that never happened is a little over the top, and I'm very proud of my family history so that makes it more so. I understand you most likely didn't mean it that way, but I hope you can see my side. Thanks very much and I hope to see you at Duffy's soon, introduce yourself and I'd be happy to buy you a cold one.

Andy Duffy,
Certainly humor was intended in my review, but I was using it as poetic license to make a point about American stereotypes of Irish people and Irish culture. I probably heard one to many 'top o the mornings' on the radio gearing up for St. Patrick's Day, which is why I wrote the review, and decided to vent. For the record, I had no idea that Duffy was a family name of a family owned bar. I assumed it was a generic name that someone threw up on a sign and said, "Hey, let's make it an Irish bar."
As for my review, I have decided to remove the Duffy name from the conversation and replaced it with a generic term. I will also update the review with an explanation and post these messages, as well. This way people will be able to see for themselves the true Duffy of Duffy's and what a fine lad you are. (please don't stalk me). I do drive by your bar almost everyday, so I could easily see myself popping in for a pint, but don't worry about buying me one, that might cost me my elite status on yelp.
One last point, I never gave your bar a bad review. Like I said, your place is a fine, little neighborhood bar.
Slainte,

I found out about this pub because of a groupon special they had advertised. I've had groupon for a year and this is the first deal that came through which actually peaked my interest enough to buy in to it.
We got there, took a look around and sat ourselves. The waitress was promptly over to take our drink orders. Since yelp and their website had said to order the wings, we decided to give them a try. Big portions, crispy bone in (it always seems like wings are broiled, not fried when bone-in) and the wings weren't soaked in sauce but the plate had enough on it for you to choose how much you would like on your bird. The sauce was awesome, medium was hot enough for me and my husband loved the asian.
The service was great, the people were chill and it really made me miss my local spots like this back home in Lawrence, KS. Definitely will be returning to try out the burger that has two grill cheese sandwiches for buns. -

'Twas the night before Sophie said goodbye to DC;
Yelpers gathered en masse at the pub called Duffy's.
There were cans, tap and wings half off for the hour,
But watch out for the chicken or your face will get sour.
The bird was so dry but I vowed to keep chewing,
I'm not gonna lie; I was quite close to spewing.
No harm but no fowl, I swallowed that bird,
Chew after chew, my cries could be heard.
But then Sophie captured the moment with glee,
Her camera was snappin candid pictures of we.
And she babbled and shouted, and called out their names:
"On Ben, on Hyunoo, on Gloria, and S B!"
"On Jonathan, on Yella, on Talia and Vasily!"
"To the next place, the next venue: to U Street et al!"
And so up, up to U Street, the next place they flew,
To wish dear old Sophie farewell and to sip some more brew.Listed in: Poetic experiences, My ROTDs, Bonne chance, Sophie!

I came for the Trivia.
I came as a Yelper.
I came with my brain as a trivia helper!
But my brain lacks the resources,
I soon realized;
when answers to politics never materialized!
But Duffy's is a cool space for quaffing a beer,
Guinness, Hoegarten and others found here.
I ordered a Widmer which blew the keg,
so I got a 3/4 beer free without having to beg!
The Yelpers downed PBR like an EMO convention,
winning entry slips for a drawing with a prize worth a mention--
5 cases of PBR for you and your friends,
to swirl your mind like a diver with the bends.
In the end, the trivia questions were toughies,
challenging our soused minds as we sat here at Duffy's.
When the totals were tallied, we Yelped a loud cheer--
3rd place for this team so pumped full of beer!
It's amazing what a dozen clouded minds can do,
Just not as much as number 1 and number 2.
But we happily received our 3rd place prize,
20 bucks off our bill; what a lovely surprise! -

I'm no beer connoisseur, but the following is my list of my favorite beers of all time.
1. Free beer
2. The beer from your fridge
3. The beer you bring to my house for a BBQ
4. Free beer (courtesy of a round on someone)
5. Cheap beer
After the Yelp Elite event @ Nellie's, I headed to Duffy's for some drinks with Yelpers and had my 4th and 5th favorite beers. On Monday's, domestic cans are $1. For some reason, it felt weird drinking beer from a can in a bar, since I associate cans with backyards and pong, but for $1, you can't really complain. I had a can of PBR - like I said, I'm no connoisseur. After that, Jeremy (no idea what his last initial is) got us a round of Coors lights. I had 2 cans sitting in front of me and I felt an urge to channel my inner Stone Cold.
Location - Not a bad place to sit and chill. The music isn't so loud that you can't hear the people next to you and it's also not so quiet that the awkward pauses in conversation become even more awkward. And is that Yellowcard on the jukebox? No, Yellowcard. You found me now, but things didn't get better.
Btw, it's within walking distance of the 9:30 club.Listed in: It's always better when we…

Decided to do something different for the wearing o' the green holiday this year. A bunch of us are going to hit up the Explosions show at the 930. Last night, one of my friends called and asked if I realized that it would be St. Patty's Day. I told him not to worry, that we were going to hit up Duffy's after the show!
I have been to Duffy's a few times before..like, every time I have been to the 930 in the past few months. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. Duffy's has plenty of televisions for those of you who need your March Madness fix with your beers. And the food here is surprisingly good, especially the Irish entrees like the corned beef and cabbage. The wings are really tasty, too.Listed in: Luck Of The Irish

This is the only place where I've seen someone buy the house a round... and I've been lucky enough to be with the guy who did it.
And this has happened TWICE now, with two different guys.
$1 beer nights bring out the best in people. It's science.
Shout-outs should be directed to Jim B. and Jeremy L.Listed in: Our drinking team has a trivia…, Crazy Good Times
