Review from Albert L.
Having seen the reviews on Yelp and friends recommending it, I decided to give it a try. The menu is quite extensive as there is a lot of selection to choose from. The restaurant offers traditional steaks to many sorts of fishes (salmon, halibut, and rainbow trout). I decided to go with the Bone-in Rib eye while my friend ordered the halibut.
My steak was so tender and juicy. It's been awhile since I've had a steak this good. I tried my friend's halibut, which was equally good. The French fries tasted great! Is there anything that they serve here that doesn't taste good? Being out in the middle of nowhere, this restaurant offers very good food that would hold its own in any major city. The dinner rolls seemed like it was fresh out of the often as it was soft and fluffy.
The prices were reasonable, a bit more like what steaks costs in major cities. I'm not complaining because the meal and hospitality rocked! I'm giving this place 5 stars as compared to other 5 star places I've rated. If you happen to be in town or passing through, I recommend stopping off here for a meal! -

Sidney, NE
Once a great steakhouse. If you enjoy salt then Dudes is for you. Only red meat is grilled and then everything else is fried. If you reall want a good meal in a run down bar go to the silver dollar in Sidney. Dudes is over priced for the cut of steaks they serve.

I took a client here based on their recommendations. It really is the best you are going to do for Sidney, NE. Good place, very accommodating folks, old tired decorations, but this is not their fault. It adds to the charm. The food was OK and I expected better. But overall the experience was good. I would go again.

I hate to give a restaurant a bad review. I know how hard it is to be in the biz. What most people would find irksome, I didn't...after waiting for 58 minutes to be seated, one of the chefs (the owner I think) came out and asked why we had been waiting so long. Neither of us could give a reason...come to find out, they had marked us off the reservation list (we had arrived on time and checked in with our name). He apologized and we were seated about five minutes later. He told us they would make everything alright (whatever that entailed...we didn't ask). Still neither of us were irked/too tired and hungry, lol. The service continued to be pretty miserable and most the patrons had cleared out by that time, so the wait staff COULD have been more attentive...but they were cleaning up to shut down. Our salads were pretty small: about 1/4 cup of lettuce on my partner's plate and about 1/3 cup on mine...more dressing than vegetables, lol and I'm not kidding. I figure since we had been skipped over and they were shutting down they didn't want to cut more lettuce, cabbage, etc. (or open another bag of salad). I ordered a medium rare filet which was cooked to well (completely cooking of meat instead of pink inside, but no carmelizing of the meat, just gray inside and out), he ordered the 30 0z. prime which came out looking like it was gnawed on (lol), completely gray (instead of rare as he ordered). Both of us were so hungry that we ate as there was little besides fast food restaurants open in Sidney by the time we were seated and served or we would have walked (remember our hour wait when we had reservations that we did inquire about a few times, that was finally noticed by the chef). Some serving/recipe problems: there is an au jus poured on their meats which REALLY is just not needed (has a chemical/mass produced bouillon taste and detracts from the meats; I was shocked and could not believe a previous review when they stated that canned mushrooms were used to top the steaks instead of fresh...but yes..they actually use canned schrooms when it's so easy to prep (the prep cook can do this) and grill or saute FRESH schrooms...again,what a horrible thing to do to a piece of meat; the dipping sauce for shrimp is like a marshmallow fluff, cream cheese and maraschino cherry concoction which is just nasty. My soup was served with the main course instead of before the main course (it was a frozen or canned chicken noodle...I had been told a tomato basil). What is nice is that there are some reasonably priced wines on their wine list and in Nebraska if you don't finish your wine, the bottle can be corked and sealed in a plastic bag so you can take it with you. Like I said, I know the biz is hard, because I used to teach people to work in the biz and also have worked in restaurants, but so much was lacking here. Our meal was 88.00 and we tipped 15% instead of 20% because we actually felt sorry for the people whom worked here. We did not and dared not order dessert. My partner is still pretty angry over the experience, I'm not but can't give this restaurant a good review (by the way, we did eat here two years ago and the food was above average...this experience was a pretty bad one on all levels: service, quality of food, quality of recipes, cleanliness, sloppy plating, lack of salad ingredients). Added this today in an edit: the steaks as mentioned in other reviews are pricey. I've had a much better quality steak (my filet was two end pieces flattened down to look like one piece of filet (old restaurant tip in combining end pieces of filet for sale which you would NOT find in a hugh end steak house) surrounded by a rather fatty piece of bacon...funny that the bacon surrounding the steak pieces was fatty, limp and way underdone when the steak was well done and the proteins not carmalized...could not understand how this was cooked...may have been rewarmed in a microwave. Still pricey for a beef raising, fattening and producing state. My filet was 30.00 and his prime was 32.00. The price should have matched the quality but it didn't. One more thing...for a cleaner premise they might remove the carpet as the carpet was pretty nasty...maybe they wash it once a week, but the night we went was a Wednesday night.

Went to dudes on November 5, 2011. This place was recommended to us by the hotel staff as the best place in town!! WOW BIG MISTAKE!! OVERPRICED!! LOSEY FOOD!! First of all let me say when we first opened the menu I wondered if they had to ship the beef from iowa because it was so overpriced. ( I am from Iowa Excellent Beef There and a sirloin at our steak house that is excellent is only like $15.00 dollars) A sirloin was $28.00 at Dudes. Well we where there so mine as well get something so we ordered sandwiches by the way which where on the menu for $12.00 dollars. The beef on the sandwiches tasted very very old and almost to the point of rotten and so tough you couldn't eat the food. (by the way my husband has now been ill for two days because he ate about three bites of his sandwich) My husband called over the server explained the problem and they did offer to remake the food but seriously would you want remade food after experiencing that. So we declined and they told us we owed $5.00 dollars for our drinks!!! What the ****!! So we paid for our drinks and went to Perkins. Food was 100% better so was the service and the staff!! Needless to say you are much better off avoiding the pit fall of Dudesl!!

Good place to get a $12 meal for $25. Try Perkins.
Friendly staff but $25-30 steaks makes it WAY overpriced for the value.. Sorry, this ain't Denver or Des Moines. -

It's not exactly fine dining, but we are talking about Sidney, Nebraska here, people. When you are freakin' starving and you happen upon this gem while road-tripping on I-80, it will be the best steak ever. I guarantee it.
Other plusses (aside from the key location) include a friendly staff and club keno. Major minus: NO NON-SMOKING SECTION! Yes, smoking is allowed everywhere in this restaurant. By the looks of things, it seemed to be encouraged. I love the heartland. -

Dude's Steak house. Wow. Just wow.
Its like stepping back in time, when you walk through the doors....to a time when family run resto's were the norm, rather than the exception and where home cooking was the order of the day.
The food was lovely. The service was homey. The wine list was comical. With the right group of people and the right mind set, this place is very enjoyable. The steaks? I'd take one of Dude's steaks over Gibson's any day.
Dude's gets four starts from me because I couldn't have a decent glass of wine with my steak and because there was no creamed spinach on the menu (or any spinach, at all) and for me its just incomplete without spinach.
Yes, I tried the "oysters." Do it. -

Wow. I ordered the pair of Rocky Mountain Oysters and they did not dissappoint! I even took another pair home for my old lady.
Service was great. Stay away from someone listed on the "not allowed back in" list - Dan G. - I guess he is dangerous. -

Woohoo! As good as it gets in Sidney. This is a must stop when driving across interstate 80!

Atmosphere was like the clock stopped about 35 years ago. It was wonderful. It was the best Rib-Eye steak that I have ever had. Alright, the side dishes were just okay but draft beers are $2 ( and apparently less during happy hour) This is must stop when in Sidney, NE. Make sure and go to one located in the old part of the city. This is a precious classic.

I thought that the Bull's Testicles were quite delicious even though they were fried. Not quite the "oysters" that I thought I ordered, but the ambiance was stellar. Too bad about their "welcome" list.

Definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for steaks in Sidney. The decor is dated, the booths uncomfortable, the joint a bit smoky - but don't worry the steaks will wow you. Unfortunately, I couldn't con my friends into ordering the Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Ate dinner here because it was directly across the street from our hotel. The decor and menu are very dated. It's a steak house so we weren't expecting much, but the waitstaff was a bit unfriendly. My friend asked what the waitress would recommend and all she had to say was "...umm, steak." Thanks. We both got the steak sandwich and it was ok. For what you got though (a smallish piece of steak on white bread with onion, a small baked potato and small steamed vegetables) it was quite overpriced. Not the worst dinning experience I've ever had by far, just not a very good one. I wouldn't eat here again on a cross country trip.

Review from K S.
Juneau, AK
An overpriced under performer. We drove out of way to spend the night in Sidney so we could eat at this well reviewed steakhouse. Big mistake. We couldn't wait to get out of the place. Service was good but the food was low quality and nothing special. Rolls were cold and straight out the package. Vegetable was cold and unseasoned. The $25 fillet was tender but grilled like a pancake but not as flavorable - and served with canned mushrooms. The rib-eye steak was so tough that most of it was left on the plate. Nothing was home -made or special.
