I love coming to Duboce Park Cafe for a quick coffee / smoothie or a leisurely lunch. The options for food / drinks seem endless at this cafe, and on a nice day, the outdoor seating, with view of the park, is nice too. When seats are available indoors, the volume is perfect for a conversation laptop surfing, although perhaps a bit loud for any serious work.
Everyone needs a neighborhood coffee-house, and I have a good one in Duboce Park Cafe. While sometimes I wish the service was a bit faster, the prices are low (especially during happy hour!), and the outcome is always nice. The servers are all pleasant - plus they take debit / credit, unlike so many of the other coffee houses around me in SF. I suspect I will be continuing to take regular trips to Duboce Park Cafe, envying all the dogs around me as I munch on my bagel and sip my hot drink.Listed in: Bay Area Delicious Cheap Food

Because this cafe is close to my home, it's an expected go to for coffee and post-hangover munchies; however, today, I was set on killing some cover letters while getting a little fresh air from my rainy bedroom and I was unpleasantly turned off by this place!
1. Cobb Salad (was once recommended before, never again!) was wayyyyyy too salty! I mean c'mon, bacon, blue cheese, why more salt!?! I didn't even think about getting a cup of coffee later because I left!
2. Internet sucks. It was slow and although the guy behind the counter said it was shoddy all week, someone was downloading something (not on Megaupload!) because I could barely connect and when I could, only certain sites would connect. (Of course, none were for cover letters I was writing!) AHHHHH
3. To top it all off, this very noisy, older man who had all his things laid out perfectly and was sipping an espresso, noming on some oatmeal was blowing his dry nose so loudly! Dude I'm eating?!?! Forreals!? If that wasn't the icing on the cake, I don't know what is.
Went to Jumpin' Java, the coffee is good, cheaper, lots of outlets, free internet anddddd the guy behind the counter was friendly, listened to my rant and might be my new gay bfff. -

Man, I really really really wanted to like Duboce Park Cafe. They're in a nice location, they have ample indoor and outdoor seating, and their menu looks awesome. But my experience, sadly, was ho-hum.
I got there and they weren't terribly busy. Instead of grabbing a quick drink, I ordered a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. I looked around for outlets--nada--which was kind of a bummer since I went there with my computer and was looking forward to the free wi-fi they offer. But no big deal, I had a few other non-computer items on my agenda to work on.
A short time later, someone brings out my bagel--it was delicious, but alas, it was not the blueberry I had ordered. I guess they made a mistake of some sort in the kitchen, and I wasn't too broken up about it because, like I said, the bagel was still yummers.
A band came in shortly after I started eating, and they wanted to set up where I was sitting, so I had to move to a different spot. Then they were rearranging tables, and while they kindly let mine stay as it was, I just sort of felt like I was in the way. Overall, it just wasn't an awesome atmosphere and I couldn't get anything productive done, so I left.
Might come back one day for something tasty to eat...but I'll take it to go and eat it in the park. -

I really enjoyed the breakfast and lunch I had here many times. The food was good and the staff has been nice, attentive, and friendly in the past. I have only had a couple instances where service/ attitude was a miss but I understand because it gets busy and stressful. I will be back again tho!

Hello afternoon coffee shop. After going to church around the area, I decided to set out on an adventure to some coffee shops. Unfortunately the one I intended on going to only accepted cash (figures.... it being san francisco and all), so I decided to longboard around until I found Duboce Park. I continued down a bit and found this cafe. I bought their iced coffee, which I then proceeded to add a little bit of sugar and milk. It was pretty average. Nothing special, but was satisfying on the hot day that it was.
I particularly enjoyed their choice of dixieland music. The environment in itself was very loud, however. Not a good place to do homework if you get distracted. But the area was convenient and the employees were pretty nice. If noise doesn't bother you, it may be okay for you to go study there. I may!

This place is my favorite based on these things:
--Happy hour beer is $3 dollars! Stella, Hoegaarden, 21st Amendment
--Coffee done right, brought to you by Sightglass and a beautiful La Marzocco
--Proximity to Duboce Park
Other bits of awesome:
--Outdoor seating
--Tasty pastries
--Friendly staff every time I've been here
--Open til 8!
This place is underrated but to be honest, I want to keep it that way! -

In the review highlights it says "Get the Hot Chicken with Chipotle Aioli," so... I got it. It was okay. The prices are a little more expensive than expected but the reason I like this place is b/c the service is awesome. Very helpful and attentive.
Not sure if there are any outlets though - my friend and I couldn't find any. -

I hate this place
The only reason why I come here is because I live down the street and its convenient.
The coffee isnt that great and the food is meh.
The owner REALLY needs to train their staff. From my own personal experience and reading other reviews, the staff is unfriendly and not welcoming at all.
Every time I come here, everyone who works here seems like they hate working there. There are no smiles or "hi how are you." Not even a "thank you" at the register. Seriously?
Last time I went here, I ordered a agua fresca and a croissant. Woman at the register rang me up, told me to sign a piece of paper (paid with card) and then walked away. No thank you.
Agua fresca came out right away, the croissant took another like 5 minutes. I'm not sure if she forgot, although it takes zero effort to pick it out of the pastry case. After I stood there for a while, she finally realized that the croissant was missing. She reaching in for it and then just threw it at me on the counter then walked away. Again no thanks.
+1 because the agua frescas are really good, but not worth the crappy service.
Well I'll say "no thanks" to you. I'm not coming here again. -

These guys lure you in with the oldest trick in the book, instead of McD's golden french fry scent seeping from the windows, they tantalize you with salty, delicious bacon essence. Once that smell hits, you're going to have to face the facts, there is no turning back.
Coffee and espresso drinks are big and flavorful, service is quick and generally friendly, and I'll be damned if the bacon didn't come from good ol' Wilbur himself. The sandwiches are spot-on, my personal favorites are:
Turkey, bacon, avocado & swiss sandwich - bomb
Chicken pesto sandwich - bomb dot com
Chicken sandwich with chipotle aioli - MmmmMmmm
Breakfast sandwich with bacon & egg - Om Nom Nom -

I'm more of a Dolores Park girl, but I found myself in Duboce Park for a doggie playdate last week. Afterwards my friend recommended we go to Duboce Park Cafe for some lunch and a couple cold beers.
When I saw the line to order, I asked if we should go elsewhere, but my friend said the line goes fast...and honestly, on any sunny day in the city I'm sure everyone else was just as busy. We left the dogs outside attached to the handy doggie-leash-holdy-thing and went in to order. There was a good vibe inside. People working on laptops or chatting. What you'd expect from a cute cafe. Bam! Before I knew it, it was our turn. I hadn't yet decided what I wanted. But wait...what's that? ....Mexican Tuna Salad??? Yes please. And an ice cold Stella. I waited for the drinks while my friend went to check on the dogs and look for seats.
When I made it outside with the beers, my friend had scored a table from some friendly lunch-goers who'd finished and offered up their spot. We enjoyed our delicious brews until the food was delivered. Impressive time considering how busy they were.
The Mexican tuna salad did not disappoint. I wouldn't say it was spicy, but it had a good kick.
I'd definitely recommend. Location is superb. I got lucky and scored a parking spot on Duboce. Not sure what it's like normally, but it's a block from Muni. Quality of food was great. And i LOVE outdoor seating.
One thing I didn't like was the awkward location for drink/coffee/pastry pickup. It was kind of cramped with seated customers and others waiting or sugaring their coffees.
Overall though, 5 stars. Keep up the good work. -

Adorable setting!
The only thing I've ever ordered from here is the decaf latte. Some shops have very bitter decaf -- but this place has the good stuff!
Haven't tried the food yet. -

Amazing service. Some of the *nicest* baristas I've ever encountered. They courteously took my order, smiling, and happy. And the barista even gave my coffee with a smile and a nod. Hats off to that.
The coffee tasted amazing. Sight glass. I'm definitely going back for the coffee. I was so impressed with it...I drank it all too fast. It was perfect with the little packaged belgian waffles they were selling.
Great weekend place, right by the park, dog friendly with awesome ambiance inside and outside. Definitely coming back. -

Four strikes:
1. Coffee is very good but overpriced compared to most. $3.00 for an Americano? It's espresso and water people.
2. It's almost always too crowded, so you can't actually enjoy the place unless it's nice enough to sit outside.
3. They let dogs inside, which is a health code violation.
4. They played effing Celine Dion for the entire afternoon. -

I give them two stars specifically for having a cute cafe with great juice options, including their own ginger beer.
_BUT_ when you serve coffee, I'd appreciate you do it right and with good customer service.
I asked for a double small americano to go after noticing they had three size cups. They poured the shots into a 12oz cup, rather than the 8oz cup. When I mentioned this, she said there was only one size. Clearly there were three sized cups sitting behind her. I asked her for an 8oz cup of coffee. She poured the cup of coffee into the 8oz cup rather than making me another one. Thus, I lost some of the espresso and she completely missed the point why I would want two shots of coffee in an 8oz cup: the strength of the coffee.
As I left, I tasted the coffee and clearly the shots were weak.
As a former barista, I was shocked and will never go back.
There isn't any good coffee in the Lower Haight, and I don't understand why. It is coffee and water, how do people screw it up so bad all the time? -

A lovely little place to hang.
The food was great here. We sat - very relaxed - as the staff and other customers buzzed around us. We had sandwiches, salads, coffee and cookies and just a great afternoon catching up with friends. There are lots of veggie-friendly options!
Service was friendly, but not intrusive. Prices were reasonable and the food was very tasty. This location is much less crowded than it's Dolores Park sister - or maybe it was just the time of year. Either way, both places are great stops if you're at the park... or if it's too cold for the park and you just want to look at it from a warm cafe. -

This is such a cute little cafe right across the street from Duboce dog park. I love coming here for a freshly squeezed carrot juice and a bagel, and then watching my doggie romp through the grass. They also serve really good salads and have interesting pastries on the counter, such as a lemon lavender cake on a stick. Yummy! it's especially a nice place to go on sunny days if you want to sit at one of their outdoor tables. Plus, I love the area and it's right off the N line!

I can't really judge this place on the food or anything other than their regular coffee & outdoor seating...which is A-OK. We used to come here in the morning for our daily coffee since it's right around the corner. Kind of pricey for a small coffee though, $2.00? Cmon now, even Starbucks doesn't change that much for their grande.
One of the chicks that works here never has a smile on her face also. It's like cmon, lighten up woman...and serve me my damn coffee! Jk. This place is in a good location, right next to the dogpark. So if you're looking to spend more than you should on coffee while checking out cute dogs, this is the spot.
Also, you'll find your typical SF implant hipster here that's for sure. Complete with Ray Bans, a flannel, skinny jeans and a beanie that's barely on their head. -
Review from Jessie Y.
Palo Alto, CA
I am routinely annoyed with how few places in SF take credit, and for that reason I love Duboce Park Cafe. There is no minimum charge BS, and they don't glare at me when I put my $2 coffee on my card.
Another reason to love it: not pretentious like so many other coffee shops out there. I can definitely do some good people watching at Duboce Park Cafe, but it is much more laid back than those scene-y places. I also like that it is on a relatively quiet street corner, so choosing to sit outside isn't choosing to listen to people honking at each other.
Final note: breakfast here is great! I love the order-then-sit style of dining and Duboce Park Cafe does it beautifully, with a delicious bfast burrito on top. -

THEY ARE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF....BE CAREFUL
The other week I went in to order a $7.95 Bagel with lox. I asked the counter gal to make it with NO lettuce/tomatoe/onions or cucumber. Just a bagel/lox and cream cheese. Because I deleted ingredients they RAISED the price to $10.95. This, as per the staff, came from the owner.
After writing her an email she still did not understand the concept and I needed to write again.
Today, giving them yet another try, I ordered an Iced Soy Latte...I asked for a receipt (just to see) THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF $.25 FOR ICE....really?
The food here is absolutely bland, their pastries are good because they don't make them and the only thing they have going are their locations as they also own Dolores Park Cafe.
GET A RECEIPT WHEN YOU ORDER ANYTHING AS THEY HAVE HIDDEN COSTS....I have the receipts to prove this.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am certainly not cheap and dine at some of the best restaurants in town. However, fair is fair. Charging more for LESS ingredients and hiding costs in unethical!!!!!
I walk my dog in the neighborhood and have been going to this place since they opened as I sincerely wanted to support my local businesses, however, now I am done. -

I live a short walk from Duboce Park Cafe, with plenty of other cafes to choose from in between. But I always Duboce. Their food is fresh, their scones, bagels and vegan donuts get delivered fresh every morning, and it makes a huge difference!
At other cafes I consistently get burnt, over cream cheese bagels, or smashed together bagels with toppings that aren't even cut. At Duboce, they're toasted perfectly, they cut in in half and carefully wrap it. I actually feel like I'm getting my money's worth.
Their coffees are amazing. I love their Vanilla Soy Latte. Their smoothies are delicious, and are actually made with real fruit and not half full of blended ice. I feel healthy and very happy every time I eat here.
Absolutely one of the best cafes in the city! Highly, highly recommended. Plus the staff are all very friendly, and they're fast and kind. -

FOOD:
1.) Regular Turkey Swiss Sandwich = It was normal.
2.) Some kinda salad = That was yummy. Just very small portion of it.
SERVICE:
Order at counter, they bring it out to your number.
ATMOSPHERE:
Very nice outdoor shaded seating, across the street from the park where dogs can romp around, great casual light-bustley location to people watch and relax. Inside with high ceilings, open feel, clean simple contemporary. -

I hope the owners read this and are embarrassed. I've been there 3 times now, simply because it's close to where I live, and it's on the corner of the park. The first time I came, their 'supreme scramble' was very tasty. That must have been sheer luck.
In short, they need to sack the hippies and hire some trained staff. Every time, they get something very wrong. It's easy: repeat the order back to the customer to confirm, come around 5 minutes after food is delivered to ask if everything is ok, you know, things every other restaurant does for good reason. You don't: randomly decide that food and coffee is brought to tables (sometimes) but juice isn't, take the order numbers off tables without confirming, not give customers the receipt with the order on (so you can't complain about missing orders). Come on, this is restaurant 101.
If you like bland, often undercooked potatoes, tasteless jam, mocha served in a cup too hot to handle without a sleeve, and service so bad some kids could invent a better system, then look no further than this place. -

Came here after the exhilaration that was the Seward Street slides, and was not as impressed as I would've liked to been.
Service was great, location is awesome, the place is cute - but the food was just ok. Ordered the curry chicken sandwich and paid $1 upgrade to get salad instead of chips. First of all, $1 upgrade for salad? It ended up being simple greens, a splash of balsamic vinaigrette, and a few tomato slices. Wah.
Second of all, I couldn't help but feel that the curry chicken needed more pizazz - some golden raisins or apple, perhaps? The tuna was decent but nothing unique. I left feeling like they probably owe their success to the multitude of dog lovers who come from the park for a quick snack. However, I don't think I'd go out of my way to come again.
But the slides - that's another story! -

It's a lot about the atmosphere, and Duboce Park Cafe has a great one. It is cozy, relaxed, cool, with good music, fresh air and bright day light.
The location of this Cafe is one of the best in San Francisco (like the great location of its brother, Dolores Park Cafe, which has the same owner), at the corner of Duboce park, under some beautiful trees.
The coffee is really good, and also the humus plate. I go there on weekends to read and have a toasted bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, vegetables, and fresh orange juice with ice.
The people there are usually beautiful and nice. Good chance to find your next date :) -

This place COULD be a great place to get something to eat while you get a little work done on your laptop, but it's not.
They purposely do not provide ANY electrical outlets, and the attitude I got from the "I'm too cool to smile" cashier was a pretty big buzzkill when I asked.
The food was "eh" and overpriced, definitely won't be going back which is too bad because it has so much potential.
Advice: Put in some electrical outlets and hire a friendly cashier. -

How many vegan donuts I *can* eat and how many vegan donuts I *should* eat are two concepts I never thought I'd have to try to make a distinction between. Duboce Cafe, I have you to blame.
After checking out the coffee shops in a 3 block radius of my new apartment, I knew DC was going to be my home-turf-go-to cafe. Why? Check out the decor inside. If you're anything like me, you'll appreciate it.
Add giant, delicious-but-not-too-sweet chai lattes, speedy wifi and friendly staff to the crack like donuts and you've got yourself a cafe worth returning to morning after morning. -

Definitely my go-to for my Sunday morning "not feeling too well from Saturday night's escapades" coffee and brunch.
Very casual spot with nice employees, great atmosphere and outdoor seating. My fave: the veggie sandwich with avocado, sprouts and jack cheese...YUM.
They have EXCELLENT coffee, hot or iced as well as great lemonade. For being a small place they have a pretty extensive menu.
Also it always makes me happy to see people with their dogs hanging out, walking to and from the park!Listed in: My Lower Haight Loves

San Francisco, CA
It makes me want to laugh and cry how swiftly the city changes under my nose. In a matter of months (years? how fast IS time flying, anyway?) becomes a place I recognize for its fundamental spatial typology, but that is a completely new and different place than any I've known before. And most of the physical places that have made up my mental profile of the city have disappeared into the ether, not to be thought of again until, maybe, accidentally in ten years (what happened to the Uncle Mame store at 15th & Market, anyway??) And that's how you end up here still. Again. Where am I?
So this neighborhood is burned into my soul, anchored by Courtney's and McKinley School and Belcher Alley and the Noe/Beaver Mini Park and the year I docented (is that a word?) the Victorian Alliance Annual House Tour (or rather just stood there, dumb and nineteen and trying to be helpful) but for some reason, the space at 2 Sanchez is always kind of dark in my mind. Which is silly because i learned to buy wine and cheese at Cooper's, which if you have to become an adult was not a bad place to learn. And now it's been over a year that the Duboce Park Cafe has been here, trying to look like it's not the Dolores Park Cafe and doing a fairly spectacular job of differentiating, and it's just now getting acquainted in my mind.
The cafes are a little like metaphors for their parks. Dolores is more of an equal-opportunity kind of place, where Duboce is smaller, more idyllic (if that were possible), more elite. Duboce is a little more charming, more sassy in their juxtaposition of modernist space with vintage bones. Speaking of bones, dogs abound, which is to be expected I guess.
Anyway, it seems silly to wax poetic about a sidewalk cafe, but why not? Dining al fresco is no small thing; it's what differentiates us from the savages (or the places less obsessed with how they do things in Europe, as it were) and where better to do it than the Duboce Triangle's saccharine urban tapestry?
Considering the design sensibility and the location, the prices are low. I had a nice lunch of a good sandwich, chips, and fresh-squeezed juice for under $10 the other day, which if you're at all acquainted with foraging for a decent quick-service lunch in San Francisco, is fucking awesome. And I like the self-serve aspect; mostly because servitude still gives me the creeps even after years of dining out, but also because certain assholes need to be taught to bus their own dishes now and then. It's what keeps us so peaceful as a people. (Well, actually that's probably more attributable to all the reefer.) -

I like to bring my dog when I come here. No, I don't have a real dog. I can't have a real dog. Fleas and fecal matter, y'know. It's a Snoopy plush I got at the Charles Schulz Museum. I pull him in a Radio Flyer wagon because, y'see, he can't walk. Please don't cry for him. He doesn't breathe either. I don't think anyone notices the difference even when I make him do tricks for treats.
However, there are people here with real dogs since Duboce Park is a dog-friendly kinda place. And it is an airy cafe swarming with their preoccupied owners on their cells and Blackberries. It's also something of an art gallery although I'm not sure what to make of that medicine cabinet on the wall. Regardless, you can get a piping hot cup of coffee, something flaky and sweet or even a light lunch if you want to mix with the equally flaky canine crowd. The dogs were friendly to Snoopy, the people not so much.
COFFEE/BAKED GOODS - 3 stars...pretty much what you expect from a dog park cafe...the Americano is good here
AMBIANCE - 4 stars...nice place for just hanging with your plush....Stay!...Sit!
SERVICE - 3 stars...speed is key here
TOTAL - 3 stars...Snoopy gives it three pawsListed in: Where Have All the Percolators…, CASTRObation

I used to live a block from Dolores Park Cafe back when I was a whippersnapper. Now, I'm older, perhaps wiser, settled down, and living closer to the Panhandle.
It's been a treat to be able to consider Duboce Park Cafe a regular stop, not only since it's much closer to me, but also because it's generally less hectic and more neighborly.
The food quality is pretty much on par with its older sister - sandwiches like the patrami on rye, curried chicken and cheese toastie are easy favorites - and their smoothies are refreshingly fresh and fruity.
Sitting outside is preferred but the inside area always offers up choice viewing of the rotating art on the walls and easier eavesdropping opportunities, should you need them. -

Man, people sure like bitching about how unfriendly the staff here is. You'd think the staff there were hard at work making drinks and food for a bunch of customers, instead of what they clearly should be doing, which is hanging out with you, their BFFs.
Seriously. I swear most of the places with stars taken off for service are just places that don't offer oral sex to everyone who walks in the door.
I've been coming here a lot the past few months, and I've always been happy. Service is pretty quickly and perfectly friendly, the food is good (I've enjoyed the coffee, too, but I only started drinking coffee when I started frequenting Duboce Cafe), and as a bonus, there's usually a dog or for hanging around out front ripe for the petting.Listed in: Duboce, Drinking outside

EDIT 3/2007: Okay, I'll stop being a hater. Maybe the owners read Yelp reviews because the service has improved drastically and I no longer feel like I am burderning the staff by demanding they do something. What to get - coffee, CHARLES CHOCOLATES, chocolate chip cookie, cold sandwiches, soup and salad. I wouldn't expect much from the rest of the menu.
Hooray! Dolores Park Cafe's overpriced sandwiches and bitchy service has finally arrived at Duboce Park! Bonus: ever wanted to eat in an IKEA catalog? Now you can! Lucky for me, I love Scandinavian design. And the turkey & swiss sandwich w/ roma tomatoes on 5 grain bread is really, really good. But still: they can not shake off their ancestry.
Unfortunately, this is the closest lunch AND coffee place near my work that is not Squat and Gobble (ugh, gross), so I am going to end up here way more often than I want to. So, really, DBC, the joke is on me. -

You may be tempted to write off Duboce Park Cafe as just a lesser spin-off of Dolores Park Cafe. But if there's one thing I've learned in San Francisco, it's that you never, ever underestimate Duboce Triangle. And if there's another thing I've learned, it's that I can usually do without the Dolores Park madness.
But really, could there be a better spot for a sidewalk latte-n-panini cafe (with an unlisted weekend breakfast menu, no less) than this corner? There's the tree-lined streets (always lining the pages of some New Urbanism primer or other), and the fact that it sits on both the N-Judah and the Wiggle, not to mention a major trade route between the colorful citizens of the Castro and Lower Haight. And then there's the dogs. Oh, the dogs. It never gets old watching the owners get flustered at how their precious pooch won't quietly and obediently wait for them outside while they get their coffee. I mean, do they go through this routine every weekend?
In short, I welcome yet more expansion of the DPC franchise, because every park needs a cafe just like this (and that includes Golden Gate Park--how about in the music concourse?). But for now I don't mind the quick ride through the tunnel. Heck, someday when I'm gray and 28, I just might make a habit of being here bright and early in my flat cap, argyle sweater-vest and corduroy jacket, greeting my coffee buddies and reveling in our survival of yet another perilous work week. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to spend my Saturday mornings, and that's saying something.Listed in: The Castro & Duboce Triangle
