The Drury Inn is not as close to the action as many other hotels in New Orleans, although it is only a block or two further and walking distance to the French Quarter and Superdome. I actually prefer the Drury to many hotels when I travel. They tend to offer the basics and cater to their clients. This includes happy hours and free food in the evenings. And you can't beat a hotel that provides free safe parking for their customers. That right there lowers the cost of staying here about $40.

It's Drury, not Dreary. It's so far from dreary, dreary thinks it's the opening scroll to Star Wars. (The previous sentence has been approved by R2-D2 for this review, despite the lack of swear words. Side note: Artoo curses like a sailor who chose a robot body. Do you think he's actually beeping? It's Galactic censorship!)

This place was actually my introduction to New Orleans. I had originally intended to stay in Austin on my spontaneous road trip to Pensacola from Phoenix a couple years ago for some beach time, with the intent of staying in New Orleans on the way back. However, New Orleans already had other plans for me apparently because I decided at the Austin exit to just keep on going. So I rolled into NOLA on a Saturday night with my canine companion asleep on my shoulders, in need of a place to stay. I drove around to a few places and called a few places but they were either all booked or pricey or not dog-friendly. Finally I rolled into Drury exhausted and had my first encounter with the outstanding hospitality of this city.

See, the price was right, and I was tired of looking for places, but alas this place wasn't dog friendly either. However, either purely out of the kindness of her heart, or having fallen under Stormy's "Chihuahua Spell of Awwwww", the front desk person that night said she'd look the other way and let him stay. She was super nice to do that for us, and that single act made a huge impression on me.

As for the room itself, it was perfectly comfy at a good price, which is what I look for in the places I stay. That evening I walked the streets of NOLA for the first time, and by the end of the next day I was hooked. A month later I was living here in my home; a home called New Orleans.

Thank you Drury, for so warmly welcoming me and my furry companion to your city, that soon became our city.

    Beep beep beep boop.
(Translation: I fucking love this town.)

This place gets 5 stars because of the value for the buck. It's conveniently located near by Burbon Street without the LOUD noises. They also provide free wifi and daily free happy hour and breakfast. The staff were nice and accommodating. They also had a small gym for any crazy people who like to work out on vacation.

    Can't ask for anything more!

Thanks to my experience here I'll look for Drury Inns wherever I travel now- but of course one of the ways they keep prices down is by having their locations outside of the major metrapoles in many states (or the obvious ones anyway).

I knew I was going to like this place when, upon check-in, they told me that they'd noticed my preference for a room away from the elevator, and since they had it free they upgraded me to a suite with a jumbo jacuzzi. Wow!

The next clincher was the delicious breakfast- standard hotel breakfast in some ways, but free! The biscuits were amazing. Biscuits plus good scrambled eggs plus salsa and Tabasco sauce plus orange juice = yum! When I got tired of that I tried the fresh french toast, muffins, or yogurt. Jim relished the Belgian waffles.

Another perk was coffee available in the lobby at all hours, or free soda of many kinds.

And then there was the 5:30pm free munchies and cocktails!
And did I mention the free no-catch wireless? And the free parking in New Orleans?

This was a quick walk to Canal St for my conferences, or right next to the trolley stop.
Although I had trouble sleeping, the bed was no more or less comfortable than any other decent hotel's.
Really, I couldn't beat the price for the quality in New Orleans, and was much, much less happy the time I stayed at the Marriott on Canal whose only selling point was a Starbucks in the lobby.

Another Priceline find. I can't recall what I paid for it, but it wasn't much, as I've gotten pretty good at lowballing that site.

The best thing I have to say about this hotel is the location? It's adjacent to the French Quarter (maybe a 10 minute walk), but far enough way to be removed from people vomiting on themselves. Always a plus.

The room was nice enough, considering New Orleans is one of those places where you don't spend a lot of time in your room. Very clean, and FREE WIRELESS!!!! This was very convenient for planning everything we wanted to do.

In fact, one thing that really impressed me about this hotel was how they're like the opposite of a nickel-and-dime operation. Free wireless, free breakfast buffet, free cocktails at happy hour. It was all just quite pleasant.

Not the fanciest hotel in which I've ever stayed, but for the price I was quite happy. I would certainly considering staying here again on a future visit.

Too many hotels today try to be fancy, or premium, or up scale, but fierce price competition leaves you feeling like you're at the prom. Everything is rented, and low quality and kind of a thin veneer on top of junk.

Drury does not seem to be doing this. They try to be pleasant, instead of fancy, and it works.

Is the breakfast amazingly great food? No. Is it hot, clean, fresh, varied and are the folks preparing polite? Yes.

Is the happy hour a huge buffet of foodie delights? No. It is hot dogs and loaded baked potatoes and chips and salsa, etc. Is the bar fully stocked with top shelf names? No. But you can get beer, wine or a simple mixed drink. Free. Again, hot (or cold as appropriate), clean, fresh and polite.

Coffee, tea and soda available in the lobby all day.

Genuinely free wi-fi without stupid disclaimer log in pages or pass codes.

    Free parking.

Our room was spacious, bright (in spite of small, but tall windows) and very clean.

All of the staff were kind, polite and attentive: something that was shockingly untrue of NOLA in general, despite the reputation of Southerners, in general.

Just north of the French Quarter, this Drury is a bit of a walk from all the tourist stuff, but so much cheaper than the Sheraton, Marriott or Hilton that it was an absolute no brainer, and I think we got better service, to boot.

Close to trolley stop so getting around not too difficult.  Our room was noisy and toilet ran once per hour which was a minor inconvenience.  Vending machine on second floor did not have a working bill device so had to go to other floors to get drinks when the kickbacks were not in progress.  Kickbacks are good but very busy, food is just heated stuff you get at a wholesale club so it's not fancy (meatballs, potatoes, chips, salsa, spring rolls, nacho cheese).  You get a 3 drink allowance (or extra shots count as a drink) so that was nice.  Pool requires two elevator stops (go to 9, then off and go up another to 10) and the pool is small, but good enough size for our two boys.  Hot tub was plenty hot but the towels went faster than I've ever seen so grab one if they are available.  Guest services was responsive however at getting extra towels when needed.

Take a left out of the front doors and walk two blocks for Regionellis pizza which is awesome, or go up Baronne to P&G for good local fare.  There are some shops in one Shell Square for a quick bite and the credit union can get you trolley tokens in bags of 10 for $12.50.  Of course you can always just buy a fare on the trolley itself.  Canal is a couple blocks and Bourbon street is essentially the same street the hotel is on, but may be too far for safety at night or for the elderly.  Sidewalks close to the hotel are being redone but crosswalks too and from the hotel are easy to cross.

Drury gets 4 stars because of its location, pricing, and comfort. It is pretty much no frills, but it definitely is above average for economy hotels in the CBD.

I was totally lucky to get a room the night before Jazz Fest -- and for under $200!! The location is very convenient: just blocks away from Canal Street and the Quarter, but far enough that you don't feel overwhelmed by partiers all the time.

The hotel is clean and well appointed. Nothing too fussy or over the top, but tasteful all the same. The king room was on the small size, but the bed was very comfortable and the decor attractive, if conservative and on the plain side.

Was a little taken aback by the copy of the Bible sitting ON the desk, but it is the south, I guess.

The cons: plumbing/staffing. I took a shower with the shower curtain on the outside of the bath. only to find that the entire bathroom had flooded! I asked the desk clerk to send house cleaning or maintenance (at 8pm) -- and he told me that he was the only person on staff at the time!!! He gave me a bunch of towels, but that did not do the full job.

Breakfast hours: most days it is served only until 9:30. kind of early for a party kind of city.

Lockdown: during the week they lock the outside doors at 10pm. And you have to use your room key for the elevators. so this, depending on your lifestyle, either a welcome security relief or an awkward hindrance to any "what happens in New Orleans stays in New Orleans" kind of socializing!

A very well run place, and a great value.  Located in the Central Business District at Poydras and Carondolet, it is a few blocks from the French Quarter, but is adjacent to the St. Charles streetcar, which is quite convenient.  The building is a restored former phone company building, with high ceilings and quiet rooms.  The pool and hot tub on the roof were a nice treat at night.

Drury ups the ante on evening hospitality: 3 free cocktails instead of 2!

The hot breakfast was well done, with scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, make-your-own-waffles, cereal, toast, etc.

Our only beef: the card keys were all jacked up, and we kept having to go to the desk to have them re-set.  A little bit of a hassle...
