I've just moved to the city in April so have been looking for a good hair salon/hairstylist. I found Dre Holder by accident and I am very happy with the service. The salon is nice/luxury/clean and the staffs are friendly. And Joseph my hairstylist today, he is talented and very friendly. I felt like a million dollar lady right after the haircut. I look so good. I will definitely go there from now on and highly recommend all the women out there

So, Joseph (for cuts/style), he is so simple and pleasant to be around, very low profile type of individual, oh and highly talented, humble, & matter of fact. Just what I was looking for. A++ ratings. I would highly recommend this salon.
Chandry did an all over color on my hair that came out just right. She is super funny & gave me helpful recommendations on shampoos & conditioners for my color-treated hair! I am pleased that she participated in my hair project. :)
The Salon is extremely clean, well kept, has a chic look, & a perfect color scheme. Minimalist, Zen ambiance.
Oh, one more thing, Joseph dresses very well & is very colorful! You'll have to check out this salon to know what I'm talking about!

Joseph, Joseph, what can I say? Not talented and rude...but then I would be lying. My stylist is away in Europe for a few months and I was in desperate need of a cut. So after reading the stellar Yelp reviews, I decided to head to Dre Holder. I had an easy time getting an appointment, the space is clean and stylish, and Joseph was fabulous. He works with you to create a look that will complement your face...key word: with. I ineloquently try to babble about what I want, he lays it out and describes exactly what he'll do and how it will achieve the look I was aiming for. End result: great hair that received compliments within an hour of me leaving. Not to mention, Joseph is a sweetheart and fun to talk to. Dre Holder has made a convert out of me.

I've been going to Joseph for over 2 years now (jeebuz has it been that long?!?) and now I'm finally getting my act together to tell the world how great he is. Seriously - he will make you look HOT - even if you're not that cute to begin with. Unlike a lot of other stylists I've been to in the past (and I've been around!), he actually listens to what you want and cuts your hair so that it really works for YOU - not someone else. His cuts are always modern but easy to maintain and consistently look great. Plus - he's a HOTTIE himself! Need I say more? Just go and check him out - and tell him Christie sent you.

I moved to SF from NYC about 3 years ago and have struggled to find a salon that does a great job on both cut and color. Thankfully, Yelp finally led me to Kristi and Dre Holder. Wonderful color, terrific cut. Added bonus...cozy and unpretentious vibe.

Joseph is positively AMAZING! My mother has been cutting my hair my entire life and the few times I went to others was catastrophic and traumatizing! I took a leap of faith with Joseph and soooo glad that I did. Honestly...you know you have a great hair cut when it grows out and STILL looks good.

I can't say enough great things about Andrea and Joseph of DreHolder Salon. I am not a big creature of habit but when I went to Dreholder for the first time back in 1997 (yes, 11 yrs ago) I was hooked. I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to my hair and Joseph's magic allows me to go for a long time between appointments. They continue to invest in the latest greatest products (and new staff) and it truly shows. In a city with so many options, they're at the top. I strayed away once just to compare, and I was back within weeks to repair the damage. I will continue to recommend this gem of a place to my friends. Thanks for the 11 years (and counting) of great service!

I send ALL of my friends to this Salon. Whatever hair school these kids went to they deserve a big fat medal. Joseph cuts amazing hair. I don't think he leaves one hair unattended to. You can tell that he has a vision and he makes it work for the individual.
Everyone in the salon is very friendly, but not overpowering or fake. It is all- in all, a really great experience. You won't be sorry!

Is there a more perfect hair salon? I think not. The space is lovely with a bit of Zen motif in the decor. Joseph consistently gives me stellar haircuts that grow out beautifully (I can usually make to just about 3 months before I get desperate for an appt), Andrea gives me great color and tips for dealing with annoying gray peekaboos, and nobody tries to sell me hair products. It's like a dream come true.

I love this place - it's nice, quiet and the staff are wonderful. It's just as beautiful, cozy and spotless as it looks in the pics! I moved here from the east coast a while back and was terrified of finding a new hairdresser especially after one particular experience! I read the reviews on Yelp for this salon and I'm really glad to have found this place. I booked with Kristi and she was wonderful! She listened to what I wanted and from there advised me on what she thought would work best from the ideas I showed her. I am very happy with my cut, color & highlights...it looks exactly how I wanted it! Also, as soon as my husband saw me, he raved about how great it looked. I will definitely be going back!
It was a little pricey, but that seems to be normal in SF... and it was definitely worth it!

I'm new to the city and I always have a hard time finding my stylist. My search is over, because this is now my place. I did my spur of the moment 'I need a haircut' today and they were able to fit me in on that day. I saw Joseph. I had no idea what I wanted, just something fresh, so I asked him and viola, perfect. He did an amazing job. The shampoo head massage was nice too. And my head was actually comfortable in the sink. I hate it when your neck hurts when they shampoo you.
The salon itself is beautiful - minimalistic, yet cozy. Not pretentious at all. Nice selection of gossip and beauty mags.

I don't waste time writing alot of Yelp reviews but when I do it's because I have a conviction.....Joseph is one cool hair guy who listened to me, did what I asked and made constructive suggestions......took me 17 years to find the right place in SF to get the right chemistry and finally found it.....the teas not bad and the cutie salon stylists peers are easy on the eyes.....high five deservingly!

I've been going to Dre Holder since they were the "hole in the wall" on Moulton St. (since 2001, I think?) I was impressed the first time, and I STILL GO EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!
I only trust cuts from Joseph. I generally get my haircuts layered, but I love that I can go super short and still love the results of my cut!!!
The last time I saw Joseph was in July (w/ straight hair). I have since permed my hair (I did not perm at Dre holder) and I'm dying to see what he could do with it!!!

I was not impressed. Once again, the Yelp reviews are totally overrated. A basic hint for this salon is to actually listen to what your client wants instead of interrupting, acting pissy, and acting as if the hair on the persons head belongs to the stylist not the client. Instead of telling the client what you would do to their hair, you should ask the client what THEY want and let them finish their sentences.

I love this salon! Not only is Joseph dreamy but I walk out looking like a rock star. I have been to many others but none better.
I also have to give a shout out to Kristi. She has the magical touch with color. When I was blonde, she did an amazing job making it look natural.
This team is the best in the city. I have been going for 2 years strong and will keep going back for more.

Do you know what's awesome about Dre Holder salon? Everything. The personnel is professional, solid in the work they do and have created a beautiful atmosphere. They have a great location overlooking the hustle and bustle of Filmore street and every time THE Joseph Holder cuts and styles my hair, I walk out feeling like a million bucks. Way to go guys!

5 stars for Kristi and Joseph! Just look at my hair...that's all them!!! They are amazing! The one thing I really noticed is that for a hair salon, the place is spotless!! I'm a complete clean freak and I can appreciate a clean environment. Also, Joseph took the time to go through with me not just what to use in my hair but how to do it specifically for my layers. I've been getting my hair cut for 30 years and no one's taught me those specific tricks! If you want to learn them...call Dre Holder!

Update: The owner wrote me a nice note thanking me for the review and explained the (apparently "below average") pricing in comparison to other salons in the area. Very professional move. Thank you. My boyfriend recently went to a much cheaper place and was not nearly as happy with his haircut. We'll be back to you next time, Dre Holder. I'm sure of it.

The nice tattooed guy gave my boyfriend a damn sexy haircut - and last minute at that! Thanks! If I wasn't faithful to my gal at Aveda I'd try Dre Holder out for myself. Four stars for scheduling same-day after you'd received a cancellation, and for your friendly service. Minus one star because the price was pretty steep ($55). Guess that's SF for ya.

Thanks to the other stellar reviews from the lads on Yelp I made an appointment with Lindsay as I was looking for a place a little closer to home. From the moment I stepped into the place until the moment I left the experience was pleasant, professional and courteous. Lindsay was super great, spending time to consult first on what I was looking for and then moving on to a great wash and superior cut and rinse. She even suggested some product which I was happy with at the styling phase of the experience and picked up some for home (which was %50 off due to their inventory reshuffling). I'll definitely be returning to see Lindsay and highly recommend the salon.

I used to go to Nice Cuts, and my wife wanted me to go to her place, which charges like $120 and they make you spend 2 hours to get your hair cut. Then I met Lindsay. She does a great job, charges less than $120, and does not take 2 hours. She's also cool and fun to talk to while you're getting your hair cut.

Kristi did my wedding hair and ever since I can't imagine going to anyone else. After a series of cuts and trims, she did a light perm for me a few months ago and it turned out great. Got another one a little while ago and am very happy again. Kristi listens well, knows what's best for one's hair and is very detail-oriented. Living in the East Bay is certainly not holding me back from going to her as it's so worth it.

I moved out here from the East coast and was having a terrible time finding a salon.
Tried Oxenrose then Mercer Street and happily landed at Dre Holder. Rob managed to undo all of the terrible highlights I had acquired during my search for the right place.
He's great. And as an added bonus, he knows a ton of random shit about the characters on Fillmore street.

OK, we all have our own hair issues....mine is that I have extremely thick hair. I have been to many different salons and have paid obscene prices looking for a great stylist. Finally, I found exactly what I was looking for in Joseph at DreHolder. He does an amazing job from beginning to end, I constantly get compliments on my hair. The salon is immaculate and the staff is very friendly. I have also had highlights done by Rob, he did a great job and really knows what he's talking about!
Prices are totally affordable and there is a parking garage just around the corner that is inexpensive compared to most.

Dre Holder is a great little salon in the marina. I found the whole staff to be very welcoming and the salon to be peaceful and relaxing. I love my high lights and I will definitely be going back!!

I just moved here and was sooooo scared to go to a new hair stylist. I have really thin, fine hair and it can be difficult to work with sometimes. Kristi had no problems though. She studied my hair and face for a bit and gave me some options. I choose option #1 and absolutely love my haircut. I left the salon feeling so pretty. That night when my husband came home from work with a co-worker, he looked at me and said, "Did you get a new haircut? It looks cute!"

I love this place. Joseph is such an expert. In the last two years I've been going there for my haircuts. First time in my life I've been happy with my haircut.
The staff is very friendly and it is very easy to schedule an appointment to accommodate your schedule. The place is super clean, pleasant, greatly decorated, at great location. I give 5 stars!

Joseph is fabulous! He listens to what you want, concentrates solely on you when you're there and completely delivers. His expert snips are designed to flatter your face shape and I happily trust my layered hair in his hands. I've never received so many compliments on my cut. It took me awhile to find him... after unsuccessfully trying a number of other salons since moving here... and I know my hair is extremely grateful I finally did! The salon is chic and low-key at the same time. A perfect place in my book.

I can't believe I've been schlepping downtown when this gem is right near my office. I LOVE the cut Joseph gave me. He asked all sorts of questions and even though I really didn't have any good answers, he managed to give me just the cut I needed. Genius.

I went to see Andrea for a cut and partial highlights! She listened to what I had to say and we took a few minutes discussing what I wanted and she also gave me her opinions. She was friendly and extremely nice. I walked out of there very happy with the end product! My boyfriend exclaimed that it was the best haircut that I've ever had and is now thinking of going there to get his haircut (he normally visits supercuts). I highly recommend this salon and Andrea!

Andrea (anDREa of DRE holder) is amazing. I have been going to her for 9 years and she always gets it right and spends the time with me, so I feel well taken care of. Her prices are fair and the service and quality is amazing. If you want a first rate cut without the attitude, there is no better place to go!

Five Stars for Joseph!!! He is a great hairstylist - and I am really, really hard to please in this area. I have been going from stylist to stylist since I moved to SF from LA and I finally found Joseph through a friends referral.
Great location too...you can go shopping and walk Union St before and after your apointment!!
