Neighborhood: MissionHow do I love her? Let me count the ways! I have been to countless chiropractors over the years and she is by far the best. Not only is she very skilled in her craft, she is a joy to be around.
OMG, where do I even being with this lady. First of all she was very very kind when I was in a serious amount of pain and stress in 2005. I went to her place for a few appointments back then, there was a time where it took me about 10-15 minutes to walk a block. She was a shining star, when there were was a dim part in my life!

I went in for neck pain and I came out feeling great all over. I am so happy to find a good chiropractor with such an amazing personality. I feel like we could be friends, but I don't think I'm that special, I think she's just really nice to everyone.
I've been a patient of Dr. Susan on and off for the last couple of years whenever my lower back begins to act up. She is genuine and great at her work because she is more than willing to give helpful advice about exercises to do on my own. To top it off she has a bubbly sense of humor and a great laugh.

I love Dr. Oyakawa. Seriously. I always feel like a million bucks after leaving her office, not only 'cause she knows how to get into the nooks & crannies of my poor spine, but because we usually enjoy such spirited conversation and she always ends my treatment with a compliment. She's so sincere and so bubbly...who wouldn't want to go to her? She's the best!!!

I found Susan to be the best chiro i've visited in the city - she would execute a light massage before the actual manipulations (and by light i do mean light, but it's miles better than nothing) and the whole experience would last for a while - 30-60 mins.
She's also got a nice demeanour, but I suppose when you're in pain you don't really care about that, as long as you get results - and I did with Susan, so thankyou!
Combined with a downward sliding price scale the more often i visited, and i found her to be a v.good chiro.
So visit her.
Oh! And unlike, say, every other chiro i've visited here, she didn't try to sell multiple visits, postural riff raff and snake oil to me. Which is bloody refreshing, actually.
4 stars for being the best chiro here, not 5 because, well, the osteo/chiro care i get back in oz is distressingly miles ahead of what I've seen in the us - but susan comes close enough!

Susan rules!
She is one of the BEST chiropractors I've ever been to. She's very patient, explains everything she's doing (even when I ask a million questions) and (most importantly) makes my back feel really great.
I came to her kind of a mess after a running injury (plus a million house in front of a computer) and her work helped very quickly. Now I see her every so often, and there is never pressure to go more often than I need/want to.
Very skilled and fun to talk to - highly recommended!

Dr. Oyakawa is AMAZING. I came to her after many doctors, pain pills and even accupuncture - I could not stand up straight the pain was so bad. After my first visit I noticed a major improvement in my posture, and after a few regular visits I was back to running again! I now see her just about every month, and it is well worth it. She listens, provides great explanations of what she is doing - I trust her and would recommend her to anyone. Her schedule is flexible so I can see her after work, and her office is near BART, which is very handy! She is the best!
Dr. Susan Oyakawa has been seeing me for several years and she always has provided caring and effective treatments to provide maintainance for my arthritis. The amount of time that Dr. Susan devotes to you is a world of difference away from those chiropractors who do the adjustment and then you are done, good-bye. A treatment from Dr. Oyakawa is very physical and incorporates massage and electro-stim to relax the muscles prepatory to the adjustment. Having just come from her I feel like I have been relieved of a burden, and am able to inhabit my body again.
And just in case you think chiropractic is just for your back, I went to see Dr. Oyakawa during a bout of bronchitis. I had been coughing so much that my whole body hurt, and it hurt to breath. Under her hands I was purged of all the tension and aches, and when she was done I was able to breathe easily again.
Did I mention how fun Dr. Susan is? She talks to you, we laugh, it's always good to see her. I cherish healers like Dr. Oyakawa, and recommend her without reservation.
Susan is a cool chiropractor. I feel she is intelligent and friendly, and really brings a comprehensive view towards her body work. I used to live in the Mission, and passed by her practice all the time... but it took a recommendation from a recommended chiropractor to bring her to my attention. I have only been seeing her for a few weeks, but my back is feeling great! I would highly tout her to all of my friends.

I had terrible sciatica, couldn't sit, stand, or lie down. Pain 24/7. The HMO Doctors wanted to do back surgery because of a compressed disc. My UPS driver friend recommended Dr. Susan.
Within 3 visits the pain was 95% gone. I now go and see her once a month, as my height (6'6") causes me numerous problems with back and neck (the world is too short for me). She has improved my quality of life tremendously.
She is the best, everything you could want in a healer. Highly recommended.

I would give 6 out of 5 stars for the Hydroculator (sp?) packs alone, but I have to admit they wouldn't be worth nuthin' without the skilled crackin' of Dr. Susan. In all seriousness, as a professional bodyworker, I appreciate the integrated modalities with which she tends to my aching body. Hot packs, electro stim., massage, nutritional and vitamin councilling (live blood analysis) as well as the standard old crack, crack. I need all this to open me up enough for the adjustments to actually "take". She spends enough time with me, which is kind of rare for chiro's. And she's a surfer, so she understands the woes of a woman in her forties who insists on playing like a girl in her 20's. And someone else said this, but it bears repeating. She doesn't try and upsell you to several visits a week. She educates you on what she is doing, and how best to address your situation, then lets you decide on the frequency of treatment with absolutely no pressure. Can't say I've had that experience with other DC's.
Okay, so I can't actually go to Susan because of my insurance plan- but my girlfriend loves her. I know Susan from going to her office and picking up or waiting for my girlfriend, and she is an awesome individual.
I called her when we got this new insurance at work, and even though she is not in my "network" for Blue Cross, she was really helpful in suggesting other doctors she knows, as well as offering me advice any time I wanted to call with questions or concerns about chiropractic in general. She said she "wants me to be well taken care of."
Based on my girlfriend's experience and my conversations with Susan, I definitely recommend her if your insurance complies!

Dr. Susan put me back together again after injuring myself in a bad bicyle accident. When I first walked into her office I was wrecked and in constant head, neck and back pain. My memory was fuzzy and I could only sleep for a few hours at a time. After my first treatment my pain was drasticly less, my memeory had totally improved and I was able to sleep longer and more soundly. It was such a relief, and as I continued treatment with her my physical health improved quickly.
Dr. Susan is awesome, very knowledgable, compassionate, wonderfully healing and not to mention funny. I am so grateful for all that she has done for me and I highly recommend her. Go see her and you'll be as good as new.

I stumbled into Susan's office after a nasty spill down the stairs left me with a broken butt. Within two weeks this woman had me walking five times what I could when I first showed up. She also laughs at my lame jokes, offers a welcoming environment and actually listens to me when I mention my aches and pains.

In situations where other practitioners are dismissive and fail even to recognize that you suffer from a malaise, Dr. Oyakawa is an exception. Her care is unmatched. She doesn't crack for the sake of cracking, nor does she insist that you make an unrealistic number of appointments; rather she recommends a treatment schedule. She is caring, explains everything clearly and her technique is gentle and effective. She's very proactive, as she'll teach you exercises you can do to strengthen and loosen certain muscles in your body. Dr. Oyakawa is a practitioner that embodies a warm personality that makes for a unique personal yet professional style that's rare.
