I found Dr. Patel through my good friend and fellow Yelper Brandi S. who also has also written a favorable review. It might seem bizarre to have all of these glowing reviews, but I can affirm that they all drive to the same point; that Downtown Dental is a great practice and I whole-heartily agree.
I've been to Downtown Dental several times over the past year for various appointments. In my first visit Dr Patel took x-rays and gave me a run down including costs of what the necessary work would entail. After a second opinion and a poor visit elsewhere I returned to Dr. Patel and have referred several of my friends as well.
Downtown Dental is extremely professional and keeps their appointments running smoothly. Dr. Patel has referred me to great professionals when necessary and has one of the best bedside manners I've ever experienced with doctors of various types.
Another great point is that they take my dental discount plan. I couldn't be more impressed with this office. Leading technology and great service with a smile. No pun intended.
First visit yesterday. Basically it was to get a second opinion after a visit to another dentist in the city.
Visit went great. I was in the reception area when Dr. Patel came through the door. he greeted me, made small talk, and explained all my insurance coverages right off the bat and that i would not be paying a thing for my visit.
got xrays which only took a minute, and then met with my hygenist Jaimie who is GREAT. Very personable, friendly, took time to get to know me and shared her dental experience with me. she gave me a cleaning that didnt consist of any picking but using water to flush any plaque out. Did all 4 quadrants of my mouth, polished my teeth and that was it.
Dr Patel came in after that and went over my X-rays. He showed me charts and pictures of what was going on with my gums and what i needed to do. He has a great sense of humor, easy to talk to, and went out of his way to explain everything in layman's terms.
basically at the last place they wanted to numb me up and pick the crap out of my gums. Dr Patel gave me a flossing demo on how he does it, gave me some medicated mouthwash and personally was going to write my insurance company to get a free custom mouth guard because i am grinding my teeth in my sleep. Something my previous dentist didnt offer up.
overall i would say this is the best dental experience i have had in my adult life. I would recommend this place to anyone looking.
After a bad experience at The Whole Tooth, I needed a second opinion. And I got one!
These people cater to downtown workers too! I was asked if I was on my lunch first off. Who can do a dental check in a lunch break? These people can apparently!

I was in and out within about 45 minutes and my next appt. scheduled! Fantastic! They didn't try and pressure me into getting unneeded work done and suggested things I could do to keep my teeth healthy.
Plus VERY up front about how much everything will be to get done. As in, "it will cost this much on this visit and then exactly this much on the next". That's what I like! Upfront and honest! Just beware the wait for an appt was about a month when I called!
Being someone who had the same dentist her entire life until she moved across the US, Dr Patel has restored my faith in dentists!
A coworker of mine recommended this place to me, and I have had good experiences. They are very conscious of your time and don't go over your allotted slot. This is really great for me since I have to get back to work as soon as possible after my appointments. I have been seeing Dr. Funderburk, and I will continue to go back to her. She is very calming and honest.
Let me tell you one thing about myself: I hate going to the dentist. Growing up, I always feared the man under the mask who would poke and prod at my teeth with a disapproving look. I confess that I didn't exactly take care of my teeth as well as I should've growing up. And my college years left me financially unstable to do such expensive procedures without health insurance. Well now that I'm partly grown-up....I guess it's time.
I read reviews on Yelp and saw that this place had great reviews and the one thing that stood out to me, is how nice the dentist is. AND HE IS!
I've been here twice already and the staff is incredible. Very helpful and nice. The dentist and dental hygienist make sure that you're well informed of all the costs upfront and what procedures they will be doing step by step. I had my serious problems but the dentist didn't scold me, but just tried to make sure I understood why my teeth are like this now and how he's going to fix it. So far, I am very pleased with this place and actually look forward to my next visit....is that crazy or what???
So I'm pretty much a huge Yelp lurker. I've never written a review but feel my great experience with Dr. Patel was worthy of my very first ever Yelp review.
I was enjoying a Trader Joe's mini mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwich and bit into one ready to enjoy the minty chocolately goodness when. . CRUNCH! I heard something give out in the back of my jaw. I think I felt a hole in the back of one of my molars. . just like the back chunk of it was missing.
I'm a med student and work 80 hour weeks sometimes in the hospital and literally no time. When I called in, his secretary let me speak to Dr. Patel personally and Dr. Patel told me he could fit me in on Friday even though is usually closed for paperwork on Fridays. I showed up and Dr. Patel just gave me a really good vibe from the very beginning being extremely friendly and just like the Yelp reviews said, he cracked jokes the whole time. He started using a tooth video camera device that I heard about on Yelp to show me the tooth that was damaged and explained to me that this was not that big of a problem - like a "crack in a car windshield" that I could take care of this weekend or in several months. Not pushy. Explaining everything carefully. And what blew me away as a med student - is the evidence based patient education that he was engaging in. He showed me an actual picture of my tooth that showed what was damaged and carefully explained the anatomy of the tooth to me and what part had broken off. All of my previous dentists have always been "you have a cavity in a tooth - you need a filling" and sure I probably did need a filling, but seeing an actual picture and knowing exactly what was going on was very comforting to me. I scheduled an appointment for my next day off and he was very up front of what I would owe. And as I left, I asked if I owed him anything for this appointment. He said "Nope. Just a professional courtesy."
The cleaning was one of the most intense and thorough cleanings I've ever had. Every past cleaning I've had in the past has been no more than 30 minutes - some being as short as 15 minutes. I was booked with the dental hygienist for a full hour and she worked on my teeth for a good 50 minutes and my teeth felt SO CLEAN. I was impressed by about how she had a college degree in Biology and then she went back for a Bachelor of Dental Hygiene at SIU. I had no idea such a degree existed but the extra education and training she had received were pretty evident. When I complimented Dr. Patel later on the cleaning, he told me he hires dental hygienists by having them clean his own teeth.
So with the fixing of the teeth, there was a pretty big hiccup. The x-ray actually showed that the tooth had broken off much deeper than Dr. Patel had originally thought and he gave me some scary news - I may need a root canal but he wouldn't be able to tell until he had started drilling. He was very straightforward with the news and clearly laid out all of the potential scenarios w/ financial costs. Again, he was very good at educating me through the x-rays and about the drilling he would do and why I may need the root canal. I went ahead with it. Alot of people on Yelp mentioned in their reviews I think that they had minimal pain when Dr. Patel administrated the anesthesia. This again was very true. He uses this Lidocaine spray that is MONEY. It basically numbs up the inside of your cheek where the anesthesia needle will be penetrating so you can't really feel the needle. I felt a pinch but it was totally tolerable with the lidocaine spray. I was pretty nervous I was going to need a root canal but at the end of the day, everything worked out - I needed just a filling. Dr. Patel figured out in the middle of the drilling that the reason my tooth had chipped off with part of a filling was because my teeth were misaligned and a sharp corner of a top molar was bearing down on a single point of the bottom molar. He used his drill to even shave down the top molar and part of the bottom molar so that stress point would no longer exist.
The neat thing after this whole thing was he showed me a picture of my tooth after it was fixed and also compared it to when it was broken. I asked him to send me these pics over email because I think it's neat to see the difference in the work Dr. Patel did with my tooth and what my past dentist has done. You can notice that the whole center of this molar is this yellow color with a filling material that Dr. Patel told me was acceptable but was not cosmetically appealing as evident from the pic. If you notice the repair on the back of the tooth, it is completely white like a normal tooth. He explained to me that his filling device uses some kind of wavelength technology that can measure the color of your surrounding tooth and adapt the filling color to the hue of your tooth. Blew me away.
Anyway, I encourage everybody to check him out - he seriously is the best!
Like everyone, I have some weird fears. Among them, clowns, sitting on something nasty on the Blue Line, being chased in the woods and of course, being served an old vinegar-tasting class of Cabernet. I also used to fear visiting the dentist, but that was before I started going to Downtown Dental.
I'm not going to lie ... it IS as good as the reviews say. I've never had to wait for an appointment. The staff is incredibly friendly and educational. I walk out of there with lovely clean teeth and look forward to my next cleaning. If you are looking for a great dentist in the loop, I highly recommend you to go Downtown Dental!
This is my first review on Yelp...I signed up specifically so that I could review this dental office!
It had been a year since my last dental appointment with my previous dentist and I had recently started experiencing toothaches on the right side of my mouth. Afraid that I had a cavity I knew I had to get in quick. Since I wanted a new dentist I called a couple of dental offices and none of them could get me in until at least 2 weeks later. Afraid the pain would get worse I decided to look here on Yelp to see what dentists had the best reviews (and who could get me in quicker).
Needless to say Downtown Dental was at the top of the list. I gave them a call and they were able to get me in quicker than the other offices, so I booked my appointment. A week in a half later I was there. Since I had downloaded and filled out my new patient forms prior to my appointment date, they got me in within 10 minutes.
I had the pleasure of having Dr. Kira Funderburk as my dentist and she was extremely friendly (as was the dental assistant). After a quick examination she found that one of my fillings had cracked. She was up front with how much it would cost to fix and got my "okay" before proceeding. I had two ugly silver fillings on that side of my mouth so she asked if I'd like the other one replaced while I was there. I agreed. Within the hour and 15 minutes I was there, Dr. Funderburk was able to get full x-rays, clean the plaque from my teeth, floss them, replace 2 fillings, and polish them. It was quick!
Dr. Funderburk was super considerate when it came to how comfortable I was. If I was feeling any pain, she would do whatever she could to make my experience pain-free. Needless to say, she is the BEST dentist I have ever been to and I will definitely be going back.
My last dentist retired, so I had to trust Chris S's recommendation for a new one.
Dr. Patel is a pretty hip and talkative fella, and the hygienist was very friendly and capable. I also appreciate the download location.
If you are looking for a new dentist, I would recommend giving Dr. Patel a try.
I wish Dr. Patel still took my insurance, but my insurance sucks and I understand he has a business to run. All the same, he managed to restore my faith that perhaps Dentists weren't the used car salesman of the medical industry. . . .
My first visit with him I was running seriously late. I ended up getting there a half hour late. I was expecting to get a stern lecture and a bill for the missed appointment. Instead, Dr. Patel just smiled and said not to worry about it "it happens to everyone." He than did the work and examination that he could do in the limited time he had (X-rays and probing) and had the receptionist squeeze me in for a full cleaning the next day.
If he's on your insurance GO! An honest reasonable dentist? He actually makes that last statement not sound oxymoronic.
If you're reading this Dr. Patel, Please Please start taking Blue Cross/ Blue shield Dental HMO again (aka Dental Network of America)!!!
When I recently started to look for a Dentist, I hadn't been to one in years. So many, I couldn't remember how many exactly. I was a little nervous about what I was going to hear. Between the very nice and informative hygienist and Dr. Patel, I never felt bad about my lapse and they gave me a great cleaning (my teeth have never felt better) and got me back on the right track.
They were easy to schedule an appointment with and they were able to fit me into a cancellation weeks before my scheduled appointment. I really appreciated their service and attitude. I am going back in 6 months!
I've had a hard time finding a dentist since I moved here and have also procrastinated a bit. When I saw the reviews for this place on Yelp, I thought I might as well give it a try.
I was very very very impressed. My dental hygienist was absolutely great. No pain, no bleeding, just a great teeth cleaning. Dr. Patel took time to speak with me about different things and seems like a caring and honest guy. I didn't feel rushed at all.
Thank god, I finally found a dentist in this town!
I found Dr. Patel through my HMO dental listing. He was one of the few offered dentists that also had ADA (American Dental Association) credentials; I believe he also serves on the ADA board in Chicago. I called his office and was able to get in the NEXT day!
The office is small (they are expanding as we speak) and the receptionists are very friendly. You can often find Dr. Patel behind the receptionist glass speaking with a patient on the phone and/or answering questions through his email (which he checks frequently). I've never had to wait for an appointment; he is very punctual.
Unfortunately, I had to visit several times but each time he made the fillings pleasant. He's funny, smart and a perfectionist. He is also able to put you at ease which is key. He's very helpful explaining insurance, dental procedures and cost-effective options. He seems to genuinely enjoy what he does.
I can not recommend Dr. Patel more. I've had 2 friends go to him since who both had good experiences.
Please note that payment is due up front. Once you are quoted a price after the insurance breakdown, you are expected to pay that sum at that time.
I am not sure if there is a payment plan in place. Call beforehand, to see if there is one in place, in case you need some serious work done (e.g. a bridge, filling, crown etc).

Kudos to Downtown Dental for it's friendly staff, clean atmosphere, and throrough exams. Dr. Patel's personality goes a long way, his assessments are genuine, and he doesn't try to force feed you suggestions or recommendations. He tells you like it is, what you need to do, and leaves it up to you. That's a refreshing contrast compared to other dentists I used to visit.
One of his assistants, (whose name i shall refrain from mentioning) was fake as hell when it came to her small talk. As she was cleaning my teeth and giving me x-rays n whatnot, she was asking all sorts of small talk questions: what do i do? am i single? what area do i live in? my favorite restaurants? this, that, & the other. me being who i am, started asking her the same questions, and one of the answers she gave me was, "That's personal...." um, excuse me?? YOU JUST ASKED ME THAT SAME QUESTION 2MINS AGO...
How rude...
Makes one think the so-called "friendly personalities" here are staged...

My appointment was today and I just have to write a great review. My Dental Hygienists was so nice, gentle and cleaned my teeth so good that I am afraid to eat right now because my teeth feel so clean. Just by looking at my teeth she knew all about my grinding habits and I appreciate that she was very patient and took time to explain everything to me. I was also shown how to clean underneath my retainer for the first time!!!
This is my new dentist now. He is a keeper!!!!! as is the staff.
I found Downtown Dental from Yelp, of course. Thanks for the tips! I hadn't been to the dentist during the four years I attended college, so I knew that this trip was going to be...interesting. However, Dr. Patel was really great. He is friendly, personable and knowledgeable. He didn't make me feel bad about my lack of dental visits, and instead discussed things I could do to improve the condition of my teeth through eating and brushing habits.
During the visit, I needed X-rays, a cleaning and wanted a consult on my wisdom teeth. My hygienist was friendly and explained everything about the new patient procedure in detail, including what my insurance would cover. She did a great job cleaning my teeth and making sure I was comfortable throughout the whole procedure.
Having moved to Chicago from Oregon a year ago, I was nervous about finding a dentist I would like as much as the one I've had since I was five. I would highly recommend Dr. Patel to anyone would is looking for a dental provider. The folks at Downtown Dental know their stuff.
I found Downtown Dental through my dental network's PPO listing, and I researched Dr. Patel and this office via several methods, including, importantly, Yelp. I read every single review, and came to the conclusion about a month ago that this was the office where I would make my next appointment. I have now been to this dental office for a total of three times (I've opted to get Invisalign here), and I can tell you that I am beyond pleased with the service that I've received thus far. I'm not customarily someone who is inclined to write reviews (although, as previously mentioned, I do rely on reviews), however, this only goes to show just how content I am with Downtown Dental.
Dr. Patel has a very calm and pleasant demeanor. He takes his time to explain details that one wouldn't ordinarily expect. Dr. Patel is a perfectionist (which I appreciate), is articulate, is very conversant, and clearly experienced in his craft.
Dr. Patel's staff is also very charming (although, admittedly, they do initially come off as fake, however, I see this is nothing more than their attempt to be kind and make every patient comfortable). I sat in with Dr. Patel's dental hygienist, Monicah, today, and was very thankful to find that she is a knowledgeable, thorough asset to this office. Monicah cleaned my teeth today, and, ever since my appt, I can't stop touching/looking at my teeth! They're ridiculously immaculate. Beyond the fact that Monicah did a fantastic job, she was gentle, very careful to not hurt me, and was disposed to lessen any discomfort I might have (as is Dr. Patel).
Because I will continue to go to this office throughout the duration of my Invisalign treatment, I trust Downtown Dental will continue to do an exceptional job. I shall expect nothing less from this team, as I have seen their potential, and they have high standards to live up to. Clearly, I can't say enough good things at this point about Downtown Dental; however, I'll stop here, lest I inflate Dr. Patel's ego!

I went to Downtown Dental after reading the reviews on Yelp. My experience was great. I haven't been to the dentist very regularly for 5 years because I had such crappy insurance. Now that I have good insurance I'll be going to see Dr. Patel every 6 months as I should.
What I was most happy with was Dr. Patel's exam and his suggestions for my teeth. I have a lot of fillings and one crown from when I was a kid. My last dentist always wanted to re-do the fillings and crown them but I never did it cause of the cost. Dr. Patel's suggestion was to leave them alone since they're still good and not in dire need to re-fill. Plus, if they did go to crowning them, there would be more risk of possible root canals...OH, NOoooooo....I'll stay away from that, thanks. So his suggestion made a lot of sense and I I save myself from a lot of work.
He did suggest a retainer/night guard since my teeth are now crooked again (after 4 years of braces in high school) and also cause I grind my teeth at night. He's right on and I'm thinking I should cough up the money. The dental hygenist and front desk staff where nice too. I'm glad to have found a new regular dentist again...with a great view out the window too. :0)
Things I expect from a dentist office:
-Dentist to be knowledgeable and friendly
-Hygienists to be happy and competent
-Dentist & hygienists to inform me when my insurance will not cover something
-Convenient location
-Office to call me when it is time for me to make an appointment
Is this demanding of me? Perhaps. Is this impossible? No, especially after finding Downtown Dental.
This was my first time there and everything went smoothly--my search for a good dentist in Chicago has come to an end. I was all over them about whether my insurance covered certain things and they could answer me with exact prices, which were reasonable. Fluoride, for example, is around $25 here, which seems to be cheaper than other offices.
Monica, my hygienist, was wonderful as was Dr. Patel. My teeth feel so clean today and I am a happy patient.
After going to a dentist where I felt pressured to get everything done right away, depsite my finances, I found Dr. Patel. I had my first appointment with him and his hygenist, Monicah, yesterday. Both of them were extremely pleasant and took the time to address all of my concerns.
I have a lot of work I need done but I feel confident in the staff at Downtown Dental. Hopefully I can get my teeth all fixed up now that I have a dentist I trust has my best interests at heart.
I have never written a review online before but my experience at Downtown Dental was such that I felt compelled to share it. This place is truly worth every good review it got. I had not been to the dentist in 4 years so I was terrified to go. But the experience was exactly how people have already described: warm, friendly, professional and efficient. I called on a Tuesday and got an appointment for the next day. I was in and out in less than 90 minutes even though it was my first visit and they took x-rays.
I would highly recommend this place to absolutely everyone.
Downtown Dental is great. I've been going here for several years and have recommended at least half-a-dozen people. I really like how Dr. Patel shows you your teeth up close on a tv monitor so you can see what's really going on in your mouth.
And they always call to remind you about your appointments. Love that. The staff will ask you if you want teeth cleaning. They always do. But they're not pushy about it at all.
Yeah, they don't have that spit bowl thing. I asked about this and apparently they way Downtown Dental does it is more sanitary.
I hadn't been to the dentist in a couple years until I heard of Downtown Dental's insanely nice staff from a coworker. I went in and not only was the hygeniest really nice and funny, so was the doctor!!
Dr. Patel was really great and explained ALL my options (procedures, COSTS, insurance, etc!!) to me when he found out i was having severe pain due to exposed roots AND when showing me my x-rays of my impacted wisdom teeth, he recommended an oral surgeon that his family has used.
I will no longer let years pass before going back to the dentist!
After having a couple bad experiences in Chicago I found Downtown Dental. I'll never go anywhere else!

Dr. Patel has such a great personality; he actually can make you smile while getting you teeth cleaned. The staff is very friendly and well educated. I have been a patient for many years and I consider myself lucky to have found a place where I fell so comfortable.

I found Downtown Dental through reading Yelp reviews, and it lived up to all of the reviews. The office is small and all of the staff are very personable. For someone who has a bit of dental anxiety, this really helps! I got a great cleaning and Dr. Patel actually filled in my first ever cavity. The thing I found really helpful was that the staff discussed the cost of everything and whether it would be covered under my insurance or not. For someone new to paying for their own insurance/dental work, the cost and insurance coverage for dental work can be daunting. Dr. Patel and his staff help to make this process easy! I would highly recommend booking an appointment if you're looking for a dentist.
Downtown Dental is a great place to go if you are looking for a personable & professional dental care provider. Not only is Dr. Patel great, but his entire staff is incredibly helpful and accommodating.
Accommodating probably isn't even the right word - this staff will go OUT of their way to help you out. Heidi came to my office to have me sign dental paperwork that needed to get done since I couldn't get away from my desk. She offered to come to me and it definitely avoided potential complications.
I go here for all my dental needs and Dr. Patel explains every option you have very thoroughly. I feel comfortable, which is not an adjective often paired with "dentist."
The office is also ideally located for those of us who work in the Loop. You can easily go here on a lunch hour or before/after work. The staff is happy to work with you to accommodate your appointment. They also have a Yelp sticker on display in their office - got to love that! :)
So, I HATE HATE HATE going to the dentist. Especially since the last one I visited told me I had to pay $2,000 and get bracers!!!?? What!!! I am a 26 year old woman, I think by now someone might have sent a memo informing me of this. I opted to get a second opinion on the matter. So, being the crazy yelper that I am, I found the great reviews on Dr. Patel. I am happy to inform that it is ALL very true!!! This place is great! It is not scary at all. Which says a lot, since I am deathly afraid of the dentist office. It wasn't too expensive or over the top fancy. Everyone was VERY nice and helpful. I will be going back to him only!
Let me just tell you how great my DR. experiences have been since I've moved. Awesome! Having seen the same dentist and doctor for all my life, starting new medical and dental relationships was one of the things I was most nervous about.
Dr. Patel and his staff at downtown dental were awesome. Favorite thing about my visit was he explained to me how my insurance worked instead of me having to figure it out on my own. You also can watch Trump Tower construction while your teeth are getting all gussied up. He is super friendly and spent more time with me then most dentist.
I avoided going to the dentist for far too long out of fear, and when I found Dr. Patel @ Downtown Dental, this was cured. He is the best dentist in the world. I have referred many people to him and all have thought he was great.
*It's true as another reviwer said that Dr. Patel does get the job done more quickly then one might be used to. Upon questioning him about that, he took the time to explain to me what some of the benefits of keeping up with technology are. Cleanings are a lot faster (not 5 minutes fast-but definitely faster then they were when I was growing up.) and a lot less invasive and uncomfortable.
Quick and efficient! Perfect for a lunch break appointment, and the dental assistant Jamie was soooo nice and so knowledgeable! I'd go back just for her helpful advice alone!
I chose downtown dental after my insurance got switched (again) and after reading the great reviews here on Yelp. Both Monica, my hygienist, and Dr. Patel were very friendly and professional. The office is clean, uncrowded, and has a great view. I was in and out in an hour for my routine checkup.
I went to the dentist yesterday and had a lot of fun :D The hygeniest was really fun and very easy to talk to. She made me feel comfortable about being squeamish and assured me that I was not being a huge baby.
So I went to the dentist after 1.5yrs bc my last dentist stood me up twice and didn't really apologize. Also I got huge bills although I was assured my insurance covered all the procedures. Anyway, from my last dentist, I was under the impression that I had a TON of cavities and my teeth were in bad shape. Yesterday, much to my delight, Dr. Patel told me that I don't have any cavities and triple checked. Not even one...
He sealed two of my molars to avoid decay and charged me a very reasonable amount. I have a root stuck in my gum from my oral surgery two yrs ago and he was going to remove it free of charge! I mean, talk about great customer service and establishing good patient relationships.
Lastly, I may need a dental implant and he explained to me my options in full detail and did not pressure me into making any decisions. He even explained that the less expensive option was absolutely sufficient.
I am very pleased with the level of customer service and Dr. Patel's great demeanor with his patients. We briefly discussed Yelp and how he has good ratings and he said he was going to check it out. I think his attitude toward what he does is refreshing and I look forward to only having to go every 6 months.
I'm happy to say that I have found a "golden ticket" at Downtown Dental. This place rocks! Dr. Patel and his staff are very professional and friendly. I switched dentists after having had a previous unpleasant experience with another dentist at a different place (please see review below). I'm happy that after three years of searching for a place for my dental needs, I've finally struck gold with Downtown Dental. It has a great location in the Loop. I was impressed that I did not have to wait long to see Dr. Patel. I appreciate that he took the time to explain everything during my dental examination. I felt he really cares that his patients feel like they can get their questions answered and have a thorough examination.
Dr Patel is awesome; I have been going to him for around 5 years now and will not go see anyone else. He knows his clients by name and the customer service from the receptionist to the chair is excellent. He goes above and beyond and analyzes your family history, to make sure you can prevent problems in the future. In my case my parents have almost grinded all their teeth down and he recommended a mouth guard, since I do the same at such a young age. He doesn't pressure you into getting services you do not need and recommends affordable ways to get the same results. Overall, the customer service is excellent and if you are looking for new dentist, Dr. Patel is a choice you won't regret!
I'm a type 1 diabetic, which is a PITA in a number of minor ways when it comes to health-related things. The last dentist I went to was in Evanston, and nice enough, but clueless on the issues involved which totally turned me off. I don't expect your average person on the street to know all about it, but a medical professional should have at least a general idea!
So anyway, since then I've been putting off dental visits- for about a year and a half. I finally decided to try Dr. Patel after seeing the reviews on here, and I am so glad I did!
I don't like people messing with my mouth at all, so of course I'm not going to say it was the most fun I've ever had. But it was the least discomfort I've had at a dentist, and everyone was friendly and relaxed. My hygienist was Monica and she was great- very nice and made sure to tell me what I was doing right and what I needed to do better at. She also noticed right away that I wear an insulin pump, and I was so impressed that she knew what it was without having to ask. And Dr. Patel was terrific too- very pleasant and knowledgable, and told me how things looked without trying to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need.
I am very happy with my visit, and will definitely continue on with Dr. Patel.
Dr. Patel is incredibly personable and takes care to accommodate all of his patients' concerns. I had my first visit this past week and was very pleased. I am looking forward to having some veneers done in the next few months and I am certain I won't be disappointed with the results. Added bonus: Dr. Patel's office is located right in the heart of the loop which is very convenient for those of us who work downtown!
I received the most un-thorough dental cleaning/exam I've ever had at Downtown Dental. It lasted about 5 minutes and Dr. Patel hardly scraped at me teeth at all. No flossing either. I can see why people that don't like dentists come here because they hardly do anything. Dr. Patel couldn't have been nicer, but I prefer a more comprehensive examination.
Dr. Patel is very knowledgeable. I used to go to the Dental Salon which I could not discourage going to ENOUGH. I am going to get a cavity filled by him shortly and will review afterwards- but I have no doubt that he will do an amazing job. Very down to earth and nice man and staff is super sweet.
