Umm. Wings. They're awesome.  I just love them.  I actually went there on a first date for the wings.

That's worth a one star jump to me.

Ohhhh Sweet Jesus on a bike are these wings bomb!!

Ever since leaving LA to live in SF, I've been on a quest, a mission, a please somebody throw me a chicken bone endeavor to find some decent wings and nada. It's so depressing. But then I found out that I was coming to NY for a week and a half and decided to take my search across the country and get me some dang chicken waaaangs and thanks to late night drunken internet searching, I found em here at Down the Hatch!

They are the Atomic Wings and while I don't quite understand how that plays into Down The Hatch, all I know is, I called a number and a little man showed up at my door holding wings and that is all I need to know. Since then I have shared the leftovers of this delicious discovery with my flatmates and we pretty much have all agreed that these wings rock. Yumm!

...I think I will go and reheat some more now, hehe :)

Pros:
- Cheap Drinks
- $21 = 3 Domestic Pitchers & Unlimited Buffalo Wings
- Non-Pretentious Crowd
- Social Atmosphere

Cons:
- Overcrowded
- Shots are on the smaller side

The definition of a good dive bar!

Came to Down the Hatch twice.  Had fun on both occasions.

Grab a couple of friends, get a pitcher each, and camp out.  There are a couple of dart boards, a single Foosball, and numerous TVs broadcasting the sports events going on at that particular hour.  This bar is loud, it's lively, and not afraid to let loose.  Most of the people that come to Down the Hatch are the non-pretentious types looking for a down to earth drink without having to go through the appeal of an upscale cocktail lounge / club.

If you're being served by the waitress, ask her to take a shot with you.  Adds to social atmosphere of the bar.

One last note, don't even think about wearing a tie at this place, you'll get laughed right out the front door.

Came here last Thursday to meet up with a friend who had won an open bar for an hour here... and it turned out to be college night so I got 1/2 priced drinks afterwards too with my old college ID - yay for like 7 drinks for $4.50. Seemed like the typical dive bar, although this was the first one I've seen with foosball (!) and it also seemed like there was some sort of deal for you to get cheap drinks or food pretty much every night of the week, which is sweet. 4 stars!

I had my 21st birthday party/hangout here.  I had an amazing time.

The wings here are amazing.

The selction of beer, drinks, and shots are pretty good too.

The place is a tad bit small and when it gets crowded you basically have to find a spot and stick with it but it's still a great time all around.

I was a virgin to this bar until football season this year!!! My boyfriend and his friends have always gone there for football sundays - $21 all you can drink and eat wings/fries.  It really is a deal you shouldnt pass up.  well they say 4 pitchers each, but they never keep track.  It does get crowded yes, but you dont have a boyfriend like mine that gets there when the doors open so that he can get the creme of the crop table for the crew to sit at!!! So the crowds have never really bothered me at all. Of course, the only downfall and Im sure anyone who has been here will say the same thing - it just takes forever and a day to gt some wings and fries. So when you order, you just need to get a ton at a time!!! other than that, I love the place, and cant wait till football season !!!

Down the Hatch is pretty much a bar for your inner dirt bag.  This is the reason I like it.  I go here to get wasted and have beer talk.  Oh, I shouldn't forget the beer pong table where the games can become pretty intense.  I have a great time every time I attend DTH...reminiscent of my college days.  I have a great story to tell everytime I leave this place.

Plus, on Sundays, during Football season they have unlimited beer and wings for $21.  The wings are great, the bartenders are attentive and there a number of close, low televisions to watch all of the games.  You got to love it.

This is by definition a college bar.  Come here on the weekends you will see sweaty college students pack this place.  They all come for pretty much the same reason I did.  Cheap beer and hot wings.  I consider myself a self proclaimed hotwing connoisseur and I will say the wings were pretty darn tasty here (small sidebar: The wings are actually from Atomic Wings that are housed under the same roof).  They have killer specials such as $21 all you can drink/eat on Sunday afternoon and during the week each night has its own special you can find on their website.

Couple Notes:
- This is a dive bar
- Majority of customers are 21-25 males (read: sausage fest)
- Good Wings
- Go on an off night and its a pretty cool place, weekends get a little too busy for my taste.
- CHEAP BEER!

Bottom Line: Its a personal favorite for wings and by all accounts cheap beer.   Not fancy at all and can be crowded...Its a pretty small area.

Dark, dingy, crowded, loud and beer-soaked? Surely this must be Heaven!!!

No, seriously. $21 on a Sunday gets you unlimited beer and unlimited wings from noon-6pm (or something to that effect). Regardless of the details, it's WAY more beer and wings than you will ever (or SHOULD ever) need. The wings were delicious. So delicious. My friends and I (and we were a large, loud group) had a stupendous time. The place was crowded, but the crowd was decent-- friendly and seemingly good-natured (i.e. no dudebros trying to start drama or piling on the sexual harassment).

Being fat and drunk on a Sunday has never been so utterly amazing. The End.

Walking into this place brought back so many memories from my college breaks (albeit hazy memories) and going here to get wasted with friends.  You may think that is enough of a reason to go here every so often, but an even better reason is the $2.75 drafts!!!  That's pretty much the price per bottle of anything decent at my local ghetto bodega.

oh and if you are looking for a nice pairing, the wings and waffle fries complement the cheap beer quite well.

Love the dive bars, and this one gets EXTRA love from me since it serves my favorite beer (and not a lot of places do in the city) Sam Adams Cherry Wheat....... try it (if you haven't already) and fall in love.

This is a cool place to hang out, good crowd, and the beers are cheap (in comparison to the rest of the city).

Wow, I cant believe the kind of reviews you guys gave this place! I mean I'll admit I came here a lot in my college days, but--well I guess I've outgrown it. Definitely a college "frat"-like bar. $1 watered-down drafts on Tuesdays are cool for the kids--definitely not for the post college crowd.

I may be a college guy, but im not into west village college bars.  the deals can be good when your there at the right time, but there is just something about this place that actually makes me feel like im younger than 21.  its pretty awkward, but thats how i feel.  Takes way to long to get a drink at this place anyway.

This is definitely not a hip, swanky joint.  It's a college dive bar with really great drink specials.  That's what we were looking for-1/2 price off everything from 4-8.  We each got the Sam Adams Cherry Beer.  I had never even heard of it, but it was great!  We also shared a fried platter of food-don't even remember what was on it, but it was typical bar fare.  The bar was almost empty at around 6 when we were there.

Complete dive.  I'd hate to see this place w/the lights up.  I used to come here a lot w/large groups for the cheap happy hour, but I wouldn't eat the food.  I don't know how people stomach eating in a dump like this.

It gets really crowded, but it's never uncomfortable.  It amuses me to no end that this place has beer pong and a foosball table.  I'm surprised they don't hold funneling contests.

DTH smells absolutely disgusting, hence my never eating here, but it's a good time.   Bring a bunch of friends and get hammered while watching the game.  It's a great place for large, low-maintenance groups.

I wasn't sure when I got in at 1pm, but I stayed, and I'm glad I did.

I ended up sharing a table with some old friends and some new ones.  Some hot chicks with whom I shared the table--and some cool guys.

Be ready, the music is loud.

But for $21, you get more beer than you'll ever need and unlimited wings (and fries).  The hottest wings (called "bite me") aren't that hot.  I ate them all without crying or anything.

I'll probably be back there next Sunday.  Great place to watch football.  Tons of people in jerseys.

And yes, the crowd can be fratty, but they're nice people, so it's cool.

If George Romero hadn't attempted to be so deep about the original Dawn of the Dead, his zombies would have wandered aimless towards the bars of america, rather than shopping malls.

Their $1 domestic (ladies' night) tuesdays provide a lot of good times, their wings and chili are actually tasty. The crowd? Less zombie-like than you'd suspect, though the wannabe / has-been frat boy crowd is actually pretty friendly, and so are the ladies they tend to drag out with them.

This is certainly not the place you'd want, if you're idea of a nice night in the village includes a stroll through washington square and a quiet dinner, though I'm sure the neighborhood can take care of your every need!

Regardless, My friends (and subsequently, I) keep ending up at Down for Hatch for some reason. Likely for their drafts; possibly for their embracing of drinking games; or maybe, it's just instinct, as creatures of habit having, figuratively, carved out our names on the back bench table.

We just end up here...

Simon Pegg for the win!

I went to this bar sometime last semester with a few friends and some guy that I would like to bury in my past; but unlike the suppressed memory of that unmentionable guy I never mentioned in the a bit ago this place is actually memorable and I would like to revisit someday.
The crowd isn't bad, the beers are cold, and I heard the food isn't too tough to take and it doesn't get any more Village than this place. The music isn't good loud either so you can actually have a conversation with someone!
I would definitely go back.
As one would have it everyone that goes to this bar is somehow affiliated with NYU. So I advise you please don't even bring it up, unless you want a easy conversational starter!!!

While living in NYC, my school buddies and I would end up here at least every other week.  We used to do the weekends too for the all you can eat.  Am I dating myself by saying it was $11 all you can eat wings and all you could drink domestics?  It got fucking crowded back then and heard it died down for a while but from the reviews it may be back.  Go there early and stake out a table.   It is worth it!

It felt like a really packed frat party in there, which can be a very good thing  if you are prepared for it ;-)

It's a nice idea for a bar.  I love dives.  But this is the perfect example of what happens when douchebags find out they can buy girls drinks for cheaper.  Bleah.

Great place for wings.

I always meet some friends here for wings and beers and it always turns into a drunken night of mayhem.

They have the best wings here.  Being that they have the best wings almost guarantees you are going to drink a lot of beers to wash them down - and then you find the worlds tiniest bathrooms!

A great place to stop into.

I came to this bar with a friend from work one thursday evening because we both felt like slumming it a little.  I'm a few years out of college and I consider myself an intermediate going on advanced dive bar aficionado. I also don't put on airs to the fact somewhere deep beneath the jaded exterior Ive built still lurks that 21 year old kid who craves a 3 dollar coors light instead of an 8 dollar IPA,  A little trashy rock and hip hop instead of Tom Waits.  Kind of like that monthly trip to your favorite fast food place. The crowd was young and full of that blissfully ignorant piss and vinegar that only college kids posses, and I tell ya folks it invigorated these old bones.  As we walked in the bar, ice cold 4- percent watered-downed glory was thrust into our hands."Ms. Phat Booty" by Mighty Mos started BUMPIN'

UUUh.  Na na na na.

I knew it was gonna be a good night.  I don't remember if it was, but isn't that a good indicator?

well. Its down the hatch. What can I say. The crowd fairs a little better here than Off the Wagon, but then again, Off the Wagon has a little more space. Its a bit cramped here, but with the cheap drink nights wrestling to the bar is worth it. college and people who still think they're in college crowd fraternizing with blandness, but its a good place to get sloshed. If you aren't into smaller spaces though, i'd suggest Town Tavern or Off the Wagon across 6th ave for a similar vibe.

Down the Hatch is much like Schaefer Beer. Schaefer's slogan in the 1950s was "the one beer to have when you're having more than one." Down the Hatch is "the bar to go to when you're having more than one." And by "one," I mean "one pitcher. On your own." It's a bar whose patrons drink like they're still in college... mainly because most of them still ARE in college. The bathrooms are gross and the crowd is douchy, but I'm not ashamed to be four years removed from college and still drinking there myself.

DTH can get pretty packed on the weekends, especially around the foosball and beer pong tables, so weekdays - or happy hour - are better choice. However, beware the half-price happy hour specials! I once got so drunk before 9pm on a Friday night here that I could barely find my way home.

Awesome. I can't believe it took me so long to get here! Met up with friends for a few beers...kudos to the amazing bartenders, it was packed (Saturday night) but the guy still remembered who I was, what kind of pitcher I was getting, and which tab was mine. Wow. i was definitely impressed. Plus was very excited to discover the beer pong and fooseball tables!! Rock! The music was definitely kicking, too.

One star off for the absolutely disgusting bathrooms. i know it's a dive, but it felt gross to go in even with big boots on!!

Drinks are soooo CHEAP. I loved it...It's gets a little crowded but it's worth it. The music is a little loud and it's not the kind that 'everyone' likes, but again, you can just deal with it considering how much you're going to save in drinks.

Oh yeah, it is the quintessential it's a dive bar - lots of people, lots of noise, and def lots of drunk  (and probably underage) NYU kids spilling drinks on you every five seconds.   I just remember feeling significantly claustrophobic..... and wet and sticky from all the spilled drinks.    Definitely not the place to go if you're like me and prefer a less-congested, soft-music, relaxing, lounge-ish destination with a bit more grown-up crowd that you can carry a conversation with.

the bartender offered us free shots at some point during the night.  Oh yeah, the drinks are cheap - very cheap.  Great place if you are on budget and plan on getting hammered fast.

My co-worker described this place as smelling like a mix of vinegar and body odor, which is perfect. Stepping through the door I felt a rush of sensory induced memory from my days upstate in college towns. The half price happy hours, so right there, and just so. The Yuengling lager that isn't considered domestic (?), and the wings! Some of the best wings I've had in the city. Even those fiery red ones are no where near the tongue scorchers that don't even allow you taste the meat. I'm calling it: bucket of wings and pair of pitchers, wishing they'd turn down the bad mid-90s rock.

The best place in the city... if you like dive bars, drunks, hot bartenders, Christmas lights, DJs that take requests, beer pong, fooseball & bathroom stalls that don't lock!
My friends and i visit the Hatch just about once a week (give or take)  around 6pm.  We take full advantage of the half-priced bar 'till 8pm, and the available tables so we can eat our wings in peace; and by wings i mean, the best buffalo wings ever!
The drinks are cheap as a rule, but may be even cheaper depending on which night of the week you go.
The bartenders are great... so are their buybacks!  Even the bouncers are wonderful... unless you piss them off.

Know before you go:  This bar is full of "regulars" (myself included), so be careful who you piss off, because most likely... they'll be there next weekend too!

Beers are not bad, especially when assisting you in washing down those fiery wings they have to offer.  Their wings are the best version from all of the Atomic Wing offerings.  You get to name your poison and I went for the hottest, freakiest level: Insane Bite Me.  As soon as the nice staff (always friendly) walked those babies over, my nose perked from the spice.  KAPOW!!  A double order of these nuclear looking wings is the best deal.  Results: I find my lips burning, eyes tearing and my nose runny from chomping these babies.  BEWARE: Wash your hands very, very well, because even after, those spices on your finger can burn your retinas off if you rubbed your eyes.  The other flavored wings are awesome too along with the burgers and waffle fries.  Cool set-up.  And to believe I walked by this place many a times before missing it...

This place should be renamed to "Shoulder to shoulder"

I am totally open minded so I am going to stop by again and will update my review but holy cow this place was packed like a sardine can.  The beer deals were ok but I only had PATIENCE to get one because the bar was 4 deep and the door was 3 people away.  Needless to say fresh air was more appealing.

I hear they serve Atomic wings though... I definitely am going to stop by again..

One of the biggest misconceptions of this place is that its a great place to play foosball, only if you'd like to envision foosball being played underground with 10-20 crammed near you with a sticky floor on a weekend night. The place was so packed that people had difficulty getting in and out of the place. There were several TVs to keep the dark scene somewhat lit, except you really couldn't hear anything going on. The bartenders are among the friendliest I've encountered in these types of bars and their drink specials were fantastic resulting in lots of drinks being bought. Definitely not a great place to bring a crowd to, nor is it a place that you should consider dining at unless if its really dead.

I freaking love this place - absolute dive for absolute fun.

I like going from 1-6 on Saturday or Sunday for the $20 all you can eat beer and wings.  There are plenty of beers on tap - its is mostly an American mix and light beer blend, but what else would you expect from this place?  The wings are AWESOME - possibly my favorite in the city - maybe even of all time.  Try the atomic wings -there really not that bad - just leave you with a reasonable after burn.

DTH works in cycles (Sat. & Sun.) - the first couple hours are pretty low key.  Plenty of people, plenty of drinking - just more laid back.  Around  3  the place gets packed.  Stake out your space early, otherwise people will take it.  Tables and the porch swing are prime real-estate.  Things die down around 6 when the specials ends, but not for long.  Seriously, you should get there early and ease your way into to it OR arrive drunk, because if at 3 or 4 you are still sober, its going to be too much.

I don't know who DJs, but there is always good music - my friends and I always find our selves saying, 'I love this song.'  Bring some cards and get a drinking game going or start a game of beer pong - challengers buy.

NOTE TO THE LAME ASS WEARING THE SPORT COAT LAST WEEKEND: You looked like a douche - go sip your cocktail in midtown and learn how to have some fun.
