Review from Izzat A.
Stayed here this past weekend. Not a bad hotel at all. I like Doubletree hotels. I think I probably paid too much (could have Pricelined it for less). Hotel is nice and located in downtown Wilmington. Hotel is kept well even though it is dated. I liked the small touch like a live piano player. Rooms were huge and the wifi was fast. Only complaint is the parking. I'll echo what one of the reviews below me said:
If a guest is parking in the attached garage, that guest must bring his parking ticket to the hotel front desk every single day to have it validated. So basically this system forces a guest to remember to come to the desk every single day, wait for a few minutes for the few people that are ahead of him, all to get silly validation. Not to mention when one comes up from the garage and goes up to his room, he doesn't even pass by the hotel front desk at all. So now I sit in my room ready to unwind, but I have to go down to get this silly ticket validated.
Parking is $15 a day I think, which I think is silly. Lots of people were checking in at night and I had to wait 15 minutes for them to validate my parking. Lots of restaurants nearby. I'd stay here again but not for the price that I paid ($120). Prolly 3.5 stars. -

It's not very different from other DoubleTree properties, if you are familiar with them and know what to expect. It's nice but not fancy. I am only writing this review because I scored a great deal on the room -- $40 on Priceline. I was looking for an alternative to staying in Philadelphia, which I needed to be near but is about 500x more expensive. If you are going to the Philly area and have some flexibility with your location, look into this hotel. That price is amazing, they have free wi-fi, it's close to the train station, the staff was really nice, and the bed was comfy. In-and-out parking in the garage is $15 per day.

Not as good as the Doubletree on Concord Pike. Older hotel which means the rooms are somewhat outdated. The rooms are very big though.
Breakfast is pricey in the morning. -

I stayed at this hotel for 6 weeks while at studying "retreat". The service at this hotel is pretty exceptional. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly, as well as the shuttle drivers and cafe staff.
The meeting rooms are nice and spacious. They have a pretty nice board room if you're looking for a quiet meeting place. The wifi signal is not the best all over the hotel (especially in some of the smaller meeting rooms) and the plug-in ethernet in the rooms can be slow at times (at least on the 6th floor). There is a small indoor pool that was newly re-tiled, but I never went in it. Unless you're a family with kids that wants to be by the pool, I'd recommend not getting a 2nd floor room since many of them walk out to the pool, reak of chlorine and I'm told that it can be loud when kids are playing in the pool.
The rooms are decently sized and what you expect from the Doubletree website. It would be nice if you could open the windows since the rooms get kinda stuffy with the A/C being difficult to control. All the rooms have Wolfgang Puck coffee which is an added bonus.
I'm not sure why Double Tree doesn't advertise this more but when you check in they give you a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie. These cookies are delicious and a great touch to the check in. It's so worth it to pick up a tin when you check out too.
A little secret: You can come up to the front desk and get a cookie even after you check in if you ask nicely. -

Not a bad Hotel, but if I had a different room I would have enjoyed my stay much more.
I love the fact that they give you a warm cookie. That's just super and I felt very welcomed. They also did a great job with room service and threw in the personal touch by answering the phone "Hello Ms. Bahn" when I rang for food. Nice. The food was pretty good too. I got the turkey burger one night and it was delicious and HUGE. Breakfast was prompt and hot, with a good omelet and quality ham. The beds were very comfortable and I loved the pillows.
4 star experience so far, but here is where they lose one. I parked in the garage and had to get my ticket validated each day.. Why can't I just pay when I check out? Annoying , time wasting policy.
My room was on the first floor right next to the lobby so it was pretty loud. I could hear the drunkards at the bar all night. And the real kicker was the bathroom. I was given a bathroom for the physically challenged, so there was an open shower that you could wheel in to if needed. The problem was the drain was not situated so the water drained in to it. The drain was in the middle of the bathroom, so the entire bathroom flooded as soon as you turned on the shower. So each morning I am wiping down the entire bathroom so I do not electrocute myself while blow drying my hair.
All in all it was a decent hotel and a great value (rooms were only $75 a night). I would stay here again, but I would ask to be on a different floor. -

Stayed here for 3 nights during August, Rooms were Pretty clean and O-K. here's the reason:
1) Stayed on the 6th Floor and my key was not working properly, went down to the front desk TWO TIMES back and forth, and finally it worked after a brand new key
2) bathroom door doesn't LOCK, tisk tisk
3) Pay for Parking (sigh.....)
4) Nothing else to eat around the area but only inside hotel restaurant.
5) only 2 floors that have ice and vending machine
6) Small pool, they put mad BLEACH in the water.
7) Gym was ok.
Need to say more????????
I have my other co-worker who went to the other double tree about 5 miles away from here, and it's better. -

Would've given this place an average 3-star rating if it wasn't for one really illogical thing they have going on there: If a guest is parking in the attached garage, that guest must bring his parking ticket to the hotel front desk every single day to have it validated.
By the way I did call the manager and express my opinion about this. He was polite but basically said "Yup that's how it is and yes you have to come down."
Will not stay here again. Illogical business practices really annoy me, but worse still is management's reluctance to alleviate inconvenience to a guest who those illogical practices clearly bother. -

After a Feb stay this year, we discovered that the hotel had overcharge us. It took a long time (over a month) for them to refund the money.
They just made up charges and tried to rip us off.
There are other hotels. Avoid ones that behave this way. -

I stay at this hotel at least once or twice a year for work and the staff is very friendly and has always gone out of their way to make sure I have everything I need. If something is broken, not working properly or I just didn't like something they make sure to take care of it right away so that I'm happy.
The only two places I will stay when visiting Wilmington, DE is the Double Tree hotel and The Dupont.
Only improvements I would suggest for the hotel is updating their gym, making sure ALL rooms have LCD tv's and provide a wider variety of food for the menu.
Best thing about this place is you get free, warm, and yummy cookies. :) -

I stayed six nights at Wilmington's downtown Doubletree on a group negotiated rate. I'm also a member of the Hilton HHonors program. At the front desk, I was treated as the later, not the former. I point this out because it is not always the case.
My room fell within the parameters of all my "personal requests" made on the HHonors site and within seconds of walking into the room my HHonors extras (extra coffee, extra pillows) were delivered by a very friendly member of the housekeeping staff.
The free internet service was easy to access (I used the wired access & set up my own wireless network) though on the Saturday of my stay, the network was down more than it was up.
Service at the bar the two nights I used it was good and the pours ranged from reasonable to generous, depending on the bartender.
Room service, which I used mainly for breakfast, was very friendly and very prompt. I only had trouble one morning when they just didn't pick up the phone. I'm pretty sure that was an issue of short-staffing and not the fault of the staff itself. The quality of the food ranged between 6 and 8 on a 1-10 scale. The value for money was about average for this level of property.
The 24-hour workout room is small but nice and certainly met my needs, which are entirely cardiovascular. The pool (open 6-10) is big and nicely heated, though the area surrounding it is definitely the most worn of all the areas in the hotel.
The desk staff were friendly and prompt in getting me a taxi and handling my checkout. All in all, a good stay. -

Rooms on the top floor (9) were nice refurnished; there was some wear around some of the common areas and elevators. Helpful staff. Not sure how long this hotel has been a Doubletree.
Not a lot of restaurants (that I could find) in the area. -

This hotel is perfect for what it is - a clean, adequately appointed hotel in a relatively unexciting downtown area. We stayed one night, and our room was $72 (including tax) for a king non-smoking room on the 6th floor, and an additional $10 for self-parking. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. We went to see a show at the Grand Opera House, and the hotel was across the street from the venue, and there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If we ever need to stay in the Wilmington area again, we'll most likely stay at the Doubletree.
