After attending a work conference on site and spending nearly four days and three nights straight on the premises, I was absolutely satisfied with my stay. Staff was friendly, courteous, and exceedingly accommodating for the most part. Poolside room was updated with modern decor, super nice toiletries, and the fluffiest bed EVER. I found the massive flat screen TV a bit overwhelming, but I'm sure most would appreciate its grandeur. Plus, lunch for our conference was served each day buffet style through the hotel's catering , and it was always tasty with healthy options and lots of choices. Gym, while small, had nice equipment. A sauna and/or steam room would have been nice...
Having stayed in many, many hotels, I place this one in the top 10% of its price range.
If I'm ever back in Tucson...
I'll see you there, darlings.
I am rating the ballroom and the service and food that I experienced at a breakfast. The ballroom is ok. I mean when the Doubletree was built, this was one of the only places that could hold 300 people in a ballroom. Since then, Tucson has seen many conferences, dinners, luncheons etc. suffer because of the lack of facilities.
One might think for that very reason that they would be on the ball making sure that the food was delicious and that their servers wouldn't suck. Well at this breakfast I went to everything was not that great. Breakfast consisted of a buffet that included eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and various breads. The eggs were cold and gross. The potatoes were soggy. The bread was hard and the bacon was yucky.
The only good thing was the coffee.

Allowed us to check in 3 hours early. Clean room. Nice service. Friendly people. Comfortable beds. Yummy cookies. Ok, I'm just a sucker for the warm cookies they give when you check in. Pretty centrally located in Tucson depending on what you're doing. I'd definitely stay here again.

Great location, but quality is uneven. I have stayed at the hotel several times, with mixed results. Pool parties on Sunday afternoons pull in locals but are very loud. Rooms were clean one time, then I found hair in the shower the next.
This DoubleTree is an older property, a 9 story hotel near Reid Park. However, they are in the midst of a remodeling campaign, and have updated the decor to a fresher, more modern appearance, with a mixture of soothing earth tones mixed with natural and bold geometric patterns.
As at most DoubleTrees, they offer you a warm cookie when you check in to give you that "welcome home" feeling. However, checking in, the desk staff inadvertantly didn't return my credit card, but fortunately retrieved it after I left for awhile, put it in an envelope and left inside my room before I got there.
It has pool, nail salon, and the Javelina Restaurant. This time of year (June) you can get a kingsize bed room with free internet for about $100. .

4-25-08 UPDATE: The Double Tree made it all better - they "adjusted" my bill to reflect the kind of stay I had.
$209 per night should be pretty awesome, no? No.
Veggie Girl and Veggie Daughter were running in the RACE FOR THE CURE on 4-6-08 and didn't want to have to drive in from BumCluck Arizona at 3 a.m. So, we stayed at the Double Tree which was 2 seconds from the starting line.
Check in, not a problem.
Go to room 511, looks okay, a little worn out and not worth the $209 that I reserved. Holes in walls, doors look water damaged, paint on drapes, lamps missing light bulbs.... okay, I will enjoy the EVENT, not every detail. Go down to Lobby, ask for bell help, bell desk Helpy-Helperton looks baffled - like I just asked him to give me his toe nails.
I drag my stuff up to room 511 myself. I'm in the elevator with a maintenance worker, holding a plunger and a HUGE bucket who tells me the silly housekeepers have called him to tell him a toilet is clogged on floor 5....
We BOTH walk to room 511. He laughs and tells me it looks like my room is the one with the problem. WHY WOULD THE FRONT DESK CHECK ME IN TO A ROOM WITH A PLUMBING PROBLEM IN AN EMPTY HOTEL????
Later that night, in my Allergen-Free $209 room, the smell of smoke wakes me up. So thick and strong, I think there's a fire on my floor. Call Helpy-Helperton at the front desk who tells me there is no fire and certainly the Double Tree is a non-smoking hotel. Thanks for calling, Good bye!
Wake up at 6:30 a.m. to the smoke floating in the room.... even after shutting bathroom door and stuffing towels in vent and at door opening.
Run the Competitive 5K Race for the Cure ( 33:25 for Veggie Girl; 29:09 For Veggie Girl's daughter who clearly held back to run with Mom)
Limp back to the Double Tree, STARVING!! Go to Cactus Rose Restaurant, waiter says he'll take our order, or we can do the buffet. We choose the handy buffet - it's 8:50 a.m. and EVERY STEAM CONTAINER IS EMPTY, except the bread.
We pout, tell the waiter, he says they'll be filled shortly. We wait.
9:15 and after walking 2 miles and running 3, we're starving and NO FOOD.
We tell waiter and leave.
Front desk tells us that's common practice because the buffet stops at 9:30. Hmmmm.
So, $209 - smoke filled room, water damaged walls, kiss prints on dirty window, hair in bath tub, loud accordion music where the housekeepers work, no food in any steam table anywhere, no bell help, and I'm sure I forgot something.....
A Motel 6 would have been better. At least they leave the freakin' light on.

We've stayed here on several visits to Tucson, because it is situated near the venues we like to visit. The quality is uneven... It's like rolling the dice. We got a bargain rate through Priceline, and requested a King, nonsmoking room on the ground floor. There are rooms in the back behind the tower in the pool area. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable... The room, as is the case in many hotel rooms these days-- was dark, even with the drapes open. Basically this was a pleasant overnight stay and worth the bargain price we paid.
I rarely give 5 stars but if you are visiting Tucson you have to stay here. For an inexpensive price this Double Tree stacks up with a 4 star hotel in Vegas. The beds were plush with pillow tops and the down pillows were so soft. Clean and remodeled with free internet connection in your room. Will only stay here when I'm in Tucson on business and for $69 a night, who can beat that!
