Had to deduct a star because parking is NOT FREE. As stated it cost $14 a night.
Other than that I had an enjoyable stay at this Doubletree Hotel. Being part of the Hilton family there are high standards that always need to be kept. The entire hotel staff was very courteous yet professional. As a signature for all Doubletree hotels, during check-in you receive a cookie. The cookies from the Doubletree is shockingly good. I'm sure various people have said the same because at the front desk are advertisements about how you can purchase them.
Both the outside and inside of the hotel look very taken care of. However the hallways and rooms don't look as caught up with the quality and decor of the lobby of the hotel. They look a "little" bit dated, but still very clean.
We had your standard king bedroom. The room itself is very spacious. The bed was nice and comfy. The AC worked, but not as well as other hotels we've stayed in the past. The TV is your standard analog affair. What's neat is the amenities included in the bathroom are Neutrogena products. The shower head had plenty of pressure.
Internet access is NOT included in the room and must be paid for. However, if you go to the lobby you can connect for free. If you didn't bring your laptop the business center is free to use, however printing requires that you pay.
Included with your stay is access to the outdoor pool/jacuzzi, heated indoor pool, sauna, and fitness room. Next to the outdoor pool are these bonfires that are fired up at night for a nice experience.
Although parking is not free there are plenty of street parking. There are various stores/restaurants right by the hotel.
Overall a great location while being in San Diego. Would definitely stay here again.
I bumped it up a star because of the young man who who was a bell hop. He was incredibly nice and helpful. I'd never actually used a bellhop before so I was nervous. He was really cool about it. I didn't get his name, but he has family/friends in San Jose.
It appears this hotel always has issues with check-in and room availability.
Here's the scoop...
My friend made a reservation online a YEAR ago, right after Comic Con 2008. My husband made ours a few months later. Both were for rooms with 2 queen beds.
We drove from San Jose, starting at 5am and got to the hotel around 1:30pm. I knew the rooms probably wouldn't be ready and that was fine. My friend went to check in first and was told his reservation for 2 queen beds wasnt' available, all they had was a king. Next, my husband went up and we got our 2 queen bed room. It doesn't make sense. Our friend reserved and checked in before us, but we got the room we wanted and they didn't.
They said the room would be ready at 3 so we went to eat. When we came back it still wasn't clean so we waited more. The room wasn't ready until FIVE pm! We were so tired and my baby was irritated, which made me more irritated.
The kicker is that since we've been here, housekeeping has been coming and going before 10am. They were knocking at our door at 8:45 this morning.
The staff is nice however. It's close to the trolley, Applebee's, Carls Jr, and 2 malls. I really like the beds too (and there are 5 pillows per bed!).
Great central location to everything around SD via a short drive, nice-looking hotel, good workout room and indoor/outdoor pools, friendly staff, and who can complain when they give you warm chocolate chip cookies when you arrive? Physically attached to the Hazard Center outdoor mall where you can easily find food/drink (Trophys, Eat at Joe's, Appleby's, froyo, Starbucks), find a good book (Barnes & Noble), and see a flick (small movie theatre). Cross the street and you can get to a Food4Less and Ralphs. And there's the Hazard Center subway stop right behind the building.
Downsides: Avoid if you are a light sleeper - walls seem rather thin - I can hear water moving through the pipes when my neighbors flush or take a shower. Mattresses were a bit too mushy for me. Some minor signs of the rooms showing a bit of wear and tear and could be better maintained. $14 for overnight parking seemed excessive for this area but you can find free street parking on the side street where the Doubletree entrance is.
Bottom line: Positives definitely outweighed the negatives. Even better when you can get this place via Priceline for a super rate like we did. 3.5 stars.

Love the customer service, love the parking, love how convienent it is to everything (shops and restaurants), I really have nothing bad to say about this hotel, an all out great experience.
My family stayed here for a week while our house was being repaired and overall it's a very nice place. Clean, polite and efficient staff, decent food in the hotel restaurant and close to freeways, shopping centers, restaurants, et al.
I have a pet peeve about having to pay for parking at a hotel where I'm already paying to stay and the $14 fee seemed excessive to me. I know you can park out on the street but there are not always parking places, especially on weekends or at peak hours at nearby cinema center.
Even though we live in San Diego and had our own car it was still a lot of fun to take the nearby trolley to places on sort of a mini-vacation. Sad to say the once-very-good Prego restaurant that is within walking distance of the hotel is now closed. It had great atmosphere and food. Not much quality eating in the adjacent mini-mall now.
If you are an out-of-towner and if you do not have a car I would highly recommend this hotel but the parking fee knocks it down a notch for me.
We have stayed here twice now on separate visits to San Diego. It's not in the heart of the city -- there's not exactly a lot to walk to (though there is SOME stuff), but I still think the location's great if you have a car. You can be anywhere in San Diego in 10-15 minutes or less. And there is a trolley stop right across the street from the hotel if you want to go to the Gaslamp, drink and not drive back.
Hotel is very nice. Gotta love the warm cookies (though once they were a bit stale, but on secondary attempts just fine). The lobby is nice and large with lots of seating areas, stretching over to the bar area that is also decent. The outside patio pool area is very nice and large as well. We only used the indoor pool though, which is fine, but just a typical indoor pool in a nondescript room.
Our room was (like everything else I've described) very nice. Everything was clean (that I could tell) and the bathroom was updated and had a separate closing door (so if you're up early you're not waking the other person up with lights/sink running/etc.). The view isn't that exciting, but you actually can see a long way from here.
Worth checking out. And boy, do I love that San Diego weather in winter! Fabulous!

this is a very nice hotel in a great location..the 14$ a day for parking is pretty bad.. my girlfriend loved it here too and the best thing about it for me is that it was very close to the stadium

I can't remember the last time I was in San Diego, so planning our weekend trip there a few weeks ago proved to be a challenge because I had NO idea where to stay! After searching (and even booking!) the Mission Valley area for hotels, I stuck to what I knew and decided to make my final reservation with Doubletree.
I want to first point out how ridiculous parking fees are in San Diego! WOW! So having ample street parking around this hotel was a HUGE plus! That saved us $14/day! Also, booking the "Memory Weekend" for an extra $10 a night saved our whole family some money, as we were able to get a "free" cooked-to-order breakfast each morning that we stayed.
Another plus, though they say that you get those famous, warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival....the front desk gave us some whenever we asked for it! At one point, even asking us if we wanted more when we came back to the hotel and we walked by the front desk! LOL!
Not only was service good, our room was big, clean and upon asking, we were placed in the "quiet side" of the hotel and away from the noisy freeway noise.
Overall, our stay was great and I am SO glad I chose this hotel over any of the other ones!
I've never actually stayed in this hotel so I can't tell you what the rooms are like. Doubletree's are fairly cookie cutter and at other ones, the rooms have been modern, clean and above average. It's no Four Seasons but the room rates are usually much cheaper too. Why am I reviewing this place then? Well, I have a lunch meeting there every Monday for the past 5 years so I have pretty good knowledge of their banquet food and rooms as well as the parking.
They share a large two story parking garage with Hazard Center Mall. The parking near the Doubletree can get tight when there are multiple meetings. Also, the parking spots are small and tight and there are too many compact spots and not enough behemoth SUV spots to suit me.
The hotel lobby and meeting rooms are clean and spacious though the acoustics are just fair. I've had occasion to be in all the rooms at one time or another. The food is warm and tasty (except for the occasional cold sandwich day) but nothing special. The sweet and sour soup is not really to my liking.
They have a really cool indoor/outdoor pool that I've seen up close but never had the occasion to swim in. The few people I've seen poolside didn't seem to have any complaints.
Probably the best part of the Doubletree are their signature chocolate chip cookies. Anybody who's had them knows what I'm talking about.

I stayed here one night when I was in san diego recently. I've always liked doubletree hotels -- they're clean, pretty nicely decorated, usually have a friendly staff, and the cookies, of course, are to die for.
My experience here was just as good as I expected it to be. It's sort of lame that they charge you extra for parking and WiFi, but oh well. I still liked it. The pool was great -- VERY clean and we had it completely to ourselves in the middle of the afternoon. And although I didn't workout, the gym looked pretty nice.
The location was probably the best part, because you can just jump right on the freeway and be wherever you're going in no time. We traveled all over the san diego area and it was really quick and easy to get to and from the hotel.
The only downside I can think of is that since it's so close to the freeway, you can hear the cars wizzing by when the room is quiet. It didn't bother me too much though. Maybe something to consider if you're a really light sleeper.

The Doubletree isn't bad. It's not great either.
I had my wedding reception here. Everything about the ceremony went well. The ballroom was clean, the waitstaff was great, and the food was delicious. We got a lot of compliments from our guests. The buffet the next morning was tasty as well.
On the other hand, they didn't have my room ready when they said they would. It's bad enough they didn't have it ready at the right time, but twice I had to be told just a few more minutes. Was also upset that the pool wasn't available for use by my guests. I guess it was down for maintenance. I can see fixing the outdoor pool during winter and the indoor pool in the summer, but why the hell were both of them shut down at the same time?

I am only writing this review because I don't want people to think that they're going to get anything special from this hotel, other than those chocolate chip cookies, which pretty much rule. Also, I am sleep-deprived because of his hotel, so I may be a little grumpy. Nice place, pretty location, decent hotel lounge. But the beds.... seriously? They advertise the beds as a "sleep-experience". Uh yeah, they were an experience- an bad, bad experience. The pillows were as hard as rocks, but not as hard as the mattress. My back was KILLING me when I woke up, to the point where I took 4 ibuprofen. I was NOT happy. They did give me extra cookies when we checked out, but only because my boobs were lookin good and I had to flirt with the front desk lady to get them. Next time, I'll stay somehwere else because I now know you can order the cookies online.

Didnt't realize till I got there that I was feeding Miss Paris Hilton's fucken spending fund staying, but definitely a great central location to all parts of San Diego we visited. Its conveniently located next to the Metro, which is SD's lightrail type of transportation that takes you to downtown and other parts of SD. A Westfield shopping center, Denny's, and a shopping center is surrounding the hotel itself. The shopping center comes complete with a FedExKinkos as well as Joe's Crab Shack.
The hotel is very clean and the service was absolutely amazing. They were out of two queen bed rooms and accomodated us into an executive suite with no trouble whatsoever. Wishing that the room was larger with a kitchenette, but it was definitely an okay size for four girls. Whenever we needed any type of room service or hotel service, they were quick to get it to our rooms, check in and out was definitely painless, as well as parking as they have their private lot, which you do need to pay for =(.
The one thing though is I think their towels are washed in the ocean because it felt like a loofah while I was drying my arsh.

Stayed here for the San Diego Comic Con.
Good hotel for Mission Valley, but if you wanna see San Diego, get a hotel by the harbor or downtown, it's much closer. But if like me, you were caught signing up for Comic Con after mid-May, you'll end up here unless you want to pay inflated Comic Con weekend prices ($500+) for one of the few hotels left downtown.
There's a high-end mall on the other side of the freeway and a shopping center next door with some decent restaurants and a Barnes and Noble. There's even a trolley station across the street, a low cost transportation method that can take you to the attractions of Old Town and Downtown. However, I'd still recommend staying Downtown if you can, the trolley, from my one experience, is somewhat unreliable.
Free (great tasting) cookies upon check in too, and the room wasn't too shabby. Just average. (There's even an iPod stereo, though the audio quality isn't that great). Also, beware, if you're a light sleeper, the trolley runs into the night and in the early morning so depending on what side of the hotel you're on, the crossing bells and trolley horns may bother you. I remember having dreams about trains the night before Comic Con and woke up to realize it was because of the trolley passing by every ten minutes.
TIP: Don't be suckered into plugging your computer in for $11/day internet. There's free wi-fi in the lobby, ALSO, we stayed in the 4th floor, and my friend and my parents were still picking up the free signal on our laptop, and the strength was pretty good too, however, that may change depending on how high up the building your room is.
(Doubletree, if you're reading this, I tried to stop my friend. I truly did.)

The Doubletree is a very nice hotel located just outside the hotel circle in San Diego.
One of the things I do not understand is why they charge $12.00 per day for parking. (minus one star)
The service is excellent and the young people working at the front desk could not be more personable.
I ran my car battery down and the Valet helped to get it started - super service .......
The rooms are nice, not fancy, but nice.
The rooms have some nice amenities, not really great, but nice.....
They do have some tasty chocolate chip cookies at the front desk.
The views are not really great, but you do not really come to many hotels for their view...
Reasonable price, but a long way from most everything in San Diego .....
You'll need a car to do most anything fun..
Small shopping complex with three restaurants located close by ...
Huge Fashion mall located across the highway.
That is the extent of the nearby fun.
Might be a good place to stay when the Chargers are in town !!

I stayed here twice. The first time, everything was decent. The rooms are large with simple decor. Nothing spectacular, but still, no complaints.
The second time I stayed here, it could have ended in a nightmare. To some people it might still have been a nightmare, but I'm a semi-patient gal and I'm very forgiving. So I arrive in SD at 2am after a long day at work and a long trip from LA. The front desk said "I have to tell you something...we...over booked and ran out of room." I said, "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" I thought he was JOKING! I continue, "Where am I going to stay tonight? (already thinking that I'll probably just post up in the car for the night-ugh)." Then homie's goes, "I'll find you a place and we'll comp you for tonight." Dammit, I was so irritated and tired. He calls all of the Hilton family hotels in the area and NO ONE HAD AN OPENING. I guess there was a convention for nurses going on and all the rooms were booked or double-booked. Go figure! If they had told me there was going to be a convention for nurses going on in San Diego which by the way has a huge flipino population, which is the ethnicity of 90% of nurses, I would've reschedule my biz trip long ago. Anyways...homie continues to call around to partner hotel chains and sends me over to Loews Coronado. Not bad eh? AHHHH, it was the longest drive ever. If I had brought company, it would've been nice.
The next day, I returned to the doubletree and they apologized for the mix up and again, reminded me that my stay at Loews was comped. I didn't care anymore, I just wanted to post up in my room and take a nap. Later that night, I went downstairs to meet a friend, and she wanted to use my bathroom, so we go back upstairs. I opened the door and see a nice ice bucket on the bed with a bottle of what I thought was champagne, but turned out to be apple cider, and two wine glasses. DOUBLE TAKE. I was like WTF and got nervous! I thought I had just walked in on a couple's romantic night. But as I was about to close the door, I took another look at the room number, hmmm...room XXX...this is my room. I go back in and take another look. Apparrently, the hotel felt bad about the mix up and this was their way of apologizing. Yum, they also gave me my some chocolate truffles. Too bad my guy wasn't with me to enjoy the goodies, so I saved everything and took it home to share with my parents. Awww...how filial.
So the hotel made up for what would've been a nightmare to me by posting me up in a five star hotel and showering me with gifts. They get a four star review for excellent customer service.

This hotel was great! Check in was fast and easy. we got a wonderful cookie upon check in and then went up to our room. when we got to our room we had noticed that the heater/ ac washaving issues and wasnt cover. we called the front desk and with in minutes we were in a new room! the beds were super comforable.... wish i could have brought them home and the shades kept all the light out.. it was by the trolley and the freeway which is super convient and i didnt even hear any of the noise. but when we went to take a shower the water wouldnt heat up. so we had to take a cold shower.again we called the front desk and told them that we would be leaving for the beach for the day and they told us that it would be fixed when we got back. for all the inconvience they gave us a voucher for free hor derves and non alcohlic drinks at the bar. check out was super easy. you didnt even have to stop by the front desk. they do it all and slip the bill under the door. parking was $14.00 a day which is pretty expensive. but the location was great! alot of shops around. overall i would stay at this hotel again for sure!!
I stayed here this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I got a great deal off the Doubletree website and was surprised to find out that I got a suite on the 10th floor which meant I got to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast and well as free appetizers at the bar. Very nice way to start my trip!
The room was what I expected... clean, big bed, decent bathroom. I didn't expect the balcony which was a nice touch. (only 10th and 11th floor rooms have balconies) I'm a dork and immediately look to see what bathroom amenities there are and I was pleasantly surprised to see Neutragena products.
They have two pools which both looked nice but I didn't use them. There's a decent bar area and both bartenders I had interaction with were very nice and made great restaurant recommendations. You can also get Starbucks coffee and tea downstairs which was wonderful!
I would definitely stay here again. The location is great - right near Fashion Valley mall (Macy's, Nordstorms, Saks, etc) and easy to hop on the main highways to get anywhere in San Diego you need to go.

i go to a lot of business-type dinners and meetings in their conference rooms here - and the facility is actually not that bad - I might consider staying here if I was an out of town guest and I had kids - we crashed the pool area here once - it was okay, I guess - when I crash a pool I want poolside drink service, some sort of water feature - like a waterfall in the pool and maybe a slide or something - and I also don't want kids present at the pool or other people - I basically want the cooolest pool in the world for myself. this is not that pool but it is a pool, with no poolside service, and there are kids, lots of kids, from out of town.. kids are really looking fat these days, those little butterballs - now we know who gets eaten first in a natural disaster right? anyway - we didn't stay long, only an hour. it's conveniently on the freeway so you can hop on the I-8 and hit other mission valley hotel pools on those hot san diego days
