19 reviews for Doubletree Hotel Portland Lloyd Center
This hotel is conveniently located in the Broadway district of Portland, right across the street from the Lloyd Center Mall, which is anchored by Nordstrom and Macy's.
It is also adjacent to the Holladay Park for strolling or relaxing, and the lightrail Max moves right behind the hotel's main building.
It is a 15 story building with an outdoor pool and decent exersize room. The guest rooms were larger than average (I had a King), and the bonus was that the walls are not paper thin, so you don't have to hear what the person(s) are doing next to you.
The adjacent convention/meeting center is a bit of a joke, however. It is really part of the parking garage, carpted and converted, but with no air conditioning or full ameneties for a large group of people.
We had a group event rate in August of $121.

What a cheapo hotel! Got a double bed room and the room didn't have enough towels. Instead of 2 bars of soap - one for the sink, one for the bathtub, we only had 1 bar of soap. There was no lotion bottle and we had to go ask for it. The maid brought 1 bottle. You need to pay for parking too, about $9/day for us for the weekend rate. The hotel and parking structure are 1 off on the floor counting, so if you need to go to the 3rd floor of the parking garage, you need to get off on the 2nd floor of the hotel.
This is an older building. Selling points: it's very close to the train stop, rooms are spacious, clean.

The hotel itself is very nice and our King bed room is spacious. Have heard from others (who have queen size beds) that the queen rooms are tiny.
One star is for the staff. The front desk staff are poorly trained and it would seem that the staff does not know how to use their software to book rooms, as when we checked in the hotel was 18 rooms overbooked.
We were in town for a convention with about 10,000 other people. You would think that the hotel would be aware of this fact, but they had no idea the hotel would be so busy and only staffed a regular staff on a Saturday when everyone was checking in. The lines were long in the lobby and people were being told that they couldn't check into their rooms until 3:45PM.
Spencer, the Manager of Customer Relations did a very poor job of taking care of people who had their confirmations printed out on paper but were being told they no longer had a room. Spencer's manager finally had to come out and do his job for him while he watched over her shoulder. Causing the front desk to be down one more person and causing more of a wait.

Don't stay here. Normally I like doubletree hotels, but this one is horrible.
You may think you're getting a good deal online but they end up charging you for everything. $18 additional to park. $10 for wireless internet. Then after that, they double charge your credit card.
The room we stayed in was small and cramped. Desk lamp isn't plugged in b/c there's no outlet nearby - nice touch.
Strong feeling that the positive reviews of this place are all planted by the company. Can't imagine anyone giving this hotel more than two stars unless they just got out of prison.
I have stayed here many times before because it is usually cheaper than staying directly downtown and the MAX line is right there within Fareless Square so transportation is easy. First things first, don't park on the second floor of the parking garage, there is no direct access to the hotel from that floor so its either the 1st, 3rd or the 4th floor for parking. They usually treat this Platinum member pretty well, they have my room ready usually with a nice view towards the Rose Arena/Downtown area with a balcony. In some areas it feels like it is from the early 90s but they have been making drastic updates to bring it into this century. Otherwise they will hold my luggage while I am bouncing around before I head over to the airport.
Recap: great access to public transportation and airport, its right by one of my favorite cafes (J Cafe), and they usually throw me some good rates.
My husband and I stayed here for a few days in July. One review I read below stated not to "judge a book by its cover." It couldn't me more true than with this hotel. You walk into the lobby and decor appears updated and pretty decent. However, that's where the glam ends.
At first glance all looks well, but you quickly find that the hotel is a mish mash of partial renovations done in different decades. I felt like I was traveling through a time warp as I made my way from the lobby to my room. The rooms themselves in need of attention with furnishings clearly leftover from the 80s. Nothing felt cohesive and back to that lobby - a strange mixture of smoke and fish emanating through the entire time. Hmmm...
I haven't read the other reviews for this place, but it seems better than 3 stars.
Don't judge a book by its cover. This place isn't particularly nice to look at from the outside, but it is pretty nice inside. As far as chain hotel's go anyway. My dad came to visit and this is where he has stayed the last 2 visits out. It is about a 5-7 minute drive to get to my apartment from here. Since we left a few times early in the morning, I ended up staying with him a few nights.
We got a room with a big bed and a pull out couch. I got the couch. I could sleep in a corner curled up in the fetal position if I had to, so the couch mattress thingy was fine. The room was clean and roomy. All rooms have a deck. Ours was facing the Lloyd Center and the park across from the Lloyd Center which I'm thinking is called Lloyd Park. If it isn't, it should be.
Upon check in you get a fresh chocolate chip cookie. How bad could that be. We even ate most of our breakfasts in the restaurant downstairs. As far as breakfasts go, I've had better, but I've also had worse.
All in all a pleasant experience.
Cheap cheap cheap, but oh so good. The small rooms are clean and charming. The staff made me feel like royalty. Convenient parking and location. Right next to the MAX so a free ride to downtown or an easy one to the airport. Having moved away from Portland I was unsure where to stay when returning to visit friends - it is the Doubletree for us from now on.
Stayed here because we had an event in one of the meeting rooms, and because it was close to the MAX station.
The exterior of the hotel looks tired, and could use a facelift, but I don't rate hotels based on their looks.
Service and comfort are much more important.
Reading other yelpers' reviews of this hotel, I think I must've gotten screwed. My room was tiny! One double bed and a desk was about all it could fit. Then, I had no hot water in the sink or the shower. Luckily, I noticed this as soon as I arrived so I didn't have to wait for the technician at 10pm.
The location is great if you've got business east of the river but if you're in town for pleasure, downtown Portland is a much better choice IMO.

Stayed there recently for a business party. The room was big and the queen size beds seemed on the small side but comfortable. We're originally supposed to be in a king but they switched our whole group to queens. Rooms were quiet and there was a balcony. Flat screens were a nice touch. They charge extra for wifi. For a very average restaurant the prices were slightly high. The catering at our events was sub par and the drink prices were ridiculous. Parking was cheap and location wasn't bad (right across the street for the mall).
Probably wouldn't stay there again. Prices are only a few bucks less then downtown hotels and more than some of the trendy, retro hotels.
(Based on our August 2008 visit)
I can say this is a true three star hotel. It was better than I expected since I usually expect the worst when checking into a hotel. We stayed in the balcony, non-smoking room (king bed) and the room was unusually large for a "standard room". I guess if you're like me and used to NYC and SFO sized hotel rooms, this would seem humungous. The room had a pretty nice (modern) TV, sofa, coffee table and desk. The bed was very comfortable.
We were a little disappointed that we didn't have a mini fridge, but when we called the front desk and asked about it, they brought one up within 10 minutes.
The hotel was recently remolded so the rooms are a bit different than the photos posted here. The gym is newly remolded (I think it was in a smaller room before) complete with just about any type of gym equipment you need. Since the gym is sizeable with plenty of equipment and weights, you'll never need to wait for anything (unlike the Anaheim Doubletree I stayed at).
Though I had my laptop, I still needed to use the business center to print out a few pages. At the time, there were only two computers available so sometimes you had to wait. There were expanding the business center when we were there so it may be different now.
More pros:
Parking is plentiful, but you have to pay. We asked for a discount.
Walking distance to café and restaurants.
VERY friendly staff.
Recycling program in the room (you no longer throw newspapers in the trash)
Cons:
WiFi is $10/day
Our room key didn't work on the last day, (common hotel problem) but the issue was resolved. It took 15 minutes though.

Our local chapter of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association just concluded our hosting of the annual meeting of the international organization at he Doubletree (three days)
The rooms (large, larger and "you've got to be kidding") service, organization and food were all outstanding.
Prices were reasonable, particularly for the quality of food and service.
We didn't have a single complaint from our 125 attendees. Ther quantity of food provided per person was enormous.
The warm chocolate-chip cookies you get at checkin is just icing on the cake.
I recommend the Doubletree unreservedly for events.
I don't know if it says more about me or the Doubletree that what I remember most about my stay here is those fabulous warm chocolate-chip cookies we got upon arrival.
I also remember them kindly helping to arrange a rental car. So, like other reviewers, nothing horrid - but nothing spectacular either.

Pretty clean and nice for a hotel. At least the rooms don't stink and the sheets are clean. The bed is comfy better than what I have now! The free cookies are so delish!!! They are also across the street from the mall and minutes away from the convention center. The Max, which is the same as light rail, is just across the street too making it easy to make your way around.
3 stars cuz I know there are better fancier places.

Located next to the Lloyd Center mall, but if you came to Portland to visit the mall, then you have worse problems than the faux yellow marble formica sinks and 80's wallpaper you'll find here.
Convenient to Max Rail so you can get away, which is good, since the area is dead at night.
Internet access is extra in the rooms but free wi-fi in the lobby. They give you a warm cookie when you check in. Two restaurants on site and snack bar in the lobby, too.
[UPDATE]: On our last day, as most other OSCON attendees left and I couldn't take advantage of my fellow attendees open access points, I broke down and paid for internet access only to find out that it was reimbursed at checkout. Our group (OSCON 2006) could have used internet access for free the entire time we were there, but there was no mention of it anywhere. Darn.

Disappointing. The front desk was friendly, but not too informed about the area (they didn't know how much on-street parking cost near the hotel).
My hotel room: not quite claustrophobia-inducing. The pen on the desk was pre-chewed (eww) and one of my pillows was missing a pillowcase. On the plus side: wireless. On the minus side, they charge for it. And for local cals. Blech.
My window looked out over an expanse of flat gravel rooftop.
The parking garage offers locals $8 for all-day parking, but for hotel customers, it's $18 (!!!) for overnight. Wottarip!
The neighborhood is state government central - big parking lots and featureless 1970s towers with workers out front on their smoke breaks. There is a movie theater and shopping center on the other side of the hotel, and these look nice, but by 10pm the neighborhood is dead.
In short, this hotel does not have the funk.
On the plus side, the hotel is walking distance to the Oregon Convention Center, and there's a MAX rail line just a block away.
Summary: there are cheaper, less featureful hotels closer to the convention center which would serve my needs better. This hotel isn't cool enough or nice enough to warrant the extra distance.

Nothing special, but a decent place to stay.
As others have said, its main feature it that it's close to the MAX which means it's a hop, skip to downtown fun and the airport. There is also a convenient parking lot right next to the building.
They do charge for internet but what many don't know is that there is free wireless all over Portland and it's actually easy to hook that up in your room if you know what's up. But you can also use the lobby if you aren't up for it.
The room was ample. The standard fare but honestly, they needed to dust this place badly. It was fairly gross. And no bath tubs which was hard for me with the newborn that wasn't ready for showers. Also, no microwave or mini fridge. So no late night burritos or beers.
The room service was actually the reason I gave this more than two stars. They were timely, made decent food, and were nice servers. The Northwest omelet was amazing. And having a coffee bar and Mexican restaurant downstairs was convenient.
I didn't get to partake in the pool but it was nice looking.

$10 for internet access and it isn't even wifi. $18 for hotel guest to park in the garage. Come on!
You do get a free warm cookie when you check in, rooms are clean and staff is friendly. Overall I think next time I'm in Portland I will be staying someplace else.
The Doubletree was not the best place I've stayed, nor was it the worst. Was I overly impressed, no... But I wasn't disgusted by the room (I've stayed in some pretty bad places). Everything seemed pretty clean to me --- the room was a pretty good size and not as tacky as I expected. I didn't like the almost $20 parking fee in the garage or having to pay for wireless but the complimentary cookies were pretty, pretty tasty. Overall not a bad place to stay --- not amazing but not awful.
