My family spent a week in this hotel... I thought that the hotel was pretty nice. It's well decorated and they have a good customer service. Thank you for providing Mandarin speaking front desk person, at least that made my parents quite happy.
I really like the swimming pool in the picture; however in real life... it's pretty disappointing. It wasn't as nice as pictured.

Room wise, it's small!!!
And how about some decency people? No door lock to a restroom?
For Pete's sake... I don't want anybody walking in when I'm taking a dump...
A/C is loud as hell. If my central air at my house is a dinosaur, this one is a godzilla...
I couldn't really sleep well here, too noisy...

Moreover, A/C in the hallway please!!! It's hot, dark, and uncomfortable... I wish they have or turn on their A/C in the hallway.

I would come back if I only have to pay $35/night (per priceline), not $80/night...

Oh yeah, gimme back my cookies!!!!

This was not what I was expecting of a DoubleTree, at least décor wise.  The hotel is modern, sleek, cool, and refined.  The front desk staff is welcoming, in a very professional manner, with their Asian sense of respect and hospitality evident in how they bow slightly when handing you the warm cookie with two hands when you check in.

Speaking of cookies, what do people with nut allergies do about the cookies, just say no?  How sad.

The hallways are quite dark, but in a soothing way, not creepy.  I just noticed on this trip that there are no number 13 or 14 rooms on my floor, another Asian influence?  The rooms are as sleek as the lobby, with low beds, modern furniture, sliding door for the bathroom, and flat panel TVs.  The bathroom is the best lit part of the whole hotel, with bright vanity lights and in shower light to make up for the dark tiling.

My favorite part - the Neutrogena toiletries include face wash and face lotion with spf.  Not my first pick of products when at the beauty store, but still nice not to have to pack it myself since they don't sell travel sizes of my favorites.

The restaurant has a nice spread for breakfast, but it's not cheap. The buffet will end up costing you $20 a person, but does include omelet bar, hot buffet, cold buffet, fresh fruit, etc.

The workout room is well-stocked for its size with 2 ellipticals, a bike, and 2 treadmills, all with their own TVs, free weights, two machines, medicine balls, weight bench, and mat.  And it overlooks the pool and its cabanas.

The hotel is just off of 210, and it's within walking distance of many restaurants, making it a convenient and pleasant choice for our business travel in the area.

Review is for cookies only!

Yes, this place does offer the cookies.  Just ask for them at the front desk.  If you're not a guest, don't ask for too many or they'll take a picture of you and post your face up inside their hotel and tell their wait staff not to serve the cookies to you anymore.

Their chocolate chip/walnut cookies here are even more delicious than the ones in Ontario & San Diego (the only other Doubletrees I've tasted for cookies).  And for some reason, the cookies here were bigger than those other locations mentioned too.  Nice!

I guess it's also nice that this hotel is located next to restaurant row in Monrovia so hotel guests can just walk to their choice of restaurant in the area.

we got to this hotel and thought the lobby was nice.
we stayed for 2 nights and both elevators were having problems.
we had to switch rooms 3 times because of problems with the wall mounted a/c units. the guest rooms dont have any fresh air vents, and the rooms are old with new decor....I will say the bathrooms look very nice. They also advertised a W-ii night on fri and sat night and when we showed up to play the W-ii they said they could not get it out because of  a party going on.....BAD HOTEL ---STAY 1 BLOCK AWAY AT THE MARRIOT

For hotels in this price range/star status, this place rocks. It has a very zen feeling. When we checked in, we asked for a late check-out and they said no problem - 2 p.m. late checkout is standard and always approved (I guess you could get even later if you wanted). The people at the front desk had a fantastic attitude - they helped us with everything we asked for/about (we requested a fridge in the room and they brought it up within 5 minutes-no extra charge). They have Neutrogena products in the bathroom, offer smoking rooms (which a lot of hotels don't offer anymore), and provided an overall pleasant atmosphere.

Also, there are lovely covered cabanas by the pool, and there was always one available - unheard of in L.A. proper! I cannot say enough good things about this hotel.

We got a good deal on two rooms & I was so impressed with the hotel! When I'm in the area (and I often am), I hope to never stay anywhere else but here ever again!

The hotel is recently renovated so everything is modern with clean lines. The lobby itself is grand and very open, there's even a Starbucks. They have comfy platform beds w/sweet dreams bedding, a wolfgang puck coffee maker w/coffee & Numi tea, flat screen tv, and the bathroom is amazing. You have an almost rain-like shower head and the rest of the bathroom is very clean/organic "zen"-like. The only fault of the rooms was that they were noisy when your neighbor opens/closes their door because it will cause your room to shake and make a rumbling noise. This was really annoying when it was time to sleep/wake up. And there were some cracks in the ceilings. I hope these are things they can fix.

Their pool/hot tub/cabana is definitely not to be missed! I made my way down there at 7am and had the whole area to myself! It was divine! There are towels provided and it felt so nice to lay out there in the sun in my own cabana! Their fitness area also has precor machines facing the pool, which is a very nice addition!

The service we had was great as well. Upon check in, they provide you with Doubletree Hotel signature chocolate chip cookies that are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! They are served to you warm and they are happy to give you a few extra if you ask. We ended up ordering two cookie tins to bring home because they were THAT good! I am still thinking about them! We also had a missing TV remote in our room and they promptly brought one up as soon as we called.

I was thoroughly impressed with the hotel (except for the noise caused by my neighbors constant open/closing of the door!) and service. I slept comfortably, had a relaxing day at the pool, and chomped away on delicious cookies. I hope to stay here again, I had a great time!

4.5 stars.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and the price was ok (US$169 for a Saturday night - Feb 14), but we had some issues that I've listed below.

We had drinks in the nice bar inside the hotel before going to dinner outside the hotel that night. We enjoyed our experience sitting at the bar with our friends from SoCal.

Some of the issues we experienced: The shower in the room (421) was a design disaster! It was practically unusable and sprayed water all over the wall and bathroom floor. I suppose the design of the rain showerhead above the tub could be considered cool and romantic, but it was not functional, and frankly was a bummer for our Valentine's Weekend. One of the recessed lighting fixtures was hanging from the ceiling over the tub. The phone in the room didn't work. We could not call the front desk to check out and had to go to the front desk when we left, even though we had the printed receipt that the hotel staff placed under our door. So much for saving time.

Three minor things: 1] the room selection on the website said the room had a view of the city. It had a view of the drainage ditch behind the hotel. Not a big deal but misleading. 2] There was only one robe in the bathroom. We reserved the room for two people when we made the reservations for Valentine's Weekend. 3] the air coming out of the cooling/heating system in the room smelled a little odd.

Overall, the hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We might consider staying here again the next time we visit our friends in the Monrovia area, but I would AVOID the room with the 1 KING BED, BATHNG TUB-RAIN SHOWER combination!

I went back last night to show my boyfriend the awesome-ness of this hotel, but was sadly disappointed when we learned the door to the pool/cabana area was locked with a sign on the wall, "Hotel Guests Only, use room key".

Well FYI, last time that sign was hanging on the wall, the door was still unlocked for people to come and go as they please.  What about the locals who want to just chill in the area?  Screw this place - least to say, my boyfriend wasn't as impressed as much as I was the first time I visited.

Love this hotel and its poolside amenities.  Staff were attentative to all our needs.  They brought out toys for the kids to play in the pool.  Another awesome addition is their poolside Wii Sports, just make sure you ask for the remotes.  Cabanas and fireplace are also cute additions to their poolside ambience.  Drink menu included mojitos...yay!  When ordering poolside, they were kind enough to bring a kids menu ~ very kid-friendly here.  The room is extremely modern, with cordless phones.  There could be more lighting available, way too dim.  Cookies unlimited...they probably have a picture of my son's face up on their wall lol.  By request, the hotel rolls up a portable fridge and microwave.  Laundry facility is coin-operated, but detergent  & softener are free.  I fell in love with the massive lobby and its modern lounging areas.  Self parking is free, unlike Doubletree in San Jose.  Many restaurants to choose from nearby.  If we are ever down this way again, we'd definitely stay here!

Last night my old fogie wannabe of a fiance drove me out to Monrovia to meet up with his cigar smoking boys club out at a smoke friendly location.  When he told me it was a Doubletree, I have to admit, I was unimpressed.  Hello, a Doubletree in Monrovia?!  Do I look like I'm on a business trip for a cheap company?  Don't answer that.

So imagine my surprise when we parked and I walked up to a building that used to be a Holiday Inn but now features an entryway that changes column colors like it was straight out of Hollywood.  Imagine my astonishment when upon entering the lobby the place looked like a hotel out of New York.  The Hilton Corp for some crazy reason decided they were going to fully deck this Doubletree out with a leather poufed, orchid ensconced sea of ottomans that was all decidedly chic in the Lobby.  But I don't get it, why in Monrovia?

To go alongside this enigma of a lobby the hotel also features a poolside courtyard in the center of the grounds and a wannabe high end restaurant/bar called Elements.

The courtyard features a pool that doubles as a large fountain by shooting water out of jets to form overlapping arches.  There were about 5 cabanas that were each furnished with sofas and chaises I would love to have on my own patio retreat.  The centerpiece of it all seemed to be a fire and water element along one wall that was basically a long rectangular fire pit built into a waterfall fountain.  I bring this up because aside from a handful of heat lamps, this is the only outdoor heating.  By the end of the night, we were all standing around it.

I couldn't help but think sitting out there sipping my drinks and puffing on my stogie that this outdoor lounge/courtyard just needed a DJ and a few more seating arrangements and it would feel like the W in San Jose.

The average room rate for this anomaly of a hotel is $179.  Each room has been renovated from it's former Holiday Inn self to include LCD HDTVs, bowl sinks, and European style bath fixtures.  We noticed there were large floor level suites that opened out to the courtyard, which honestly in my mind read: PARTY!

But alas, there it is, oddly situated in Monrovia when it obviously belongs in Pasadena.  I'm giving it a 4 because of the impressive decor that blew my low expectations out of the water, the very impressive service that I have throughout the night, the newness of everything (they reopened as a Doubletree in September of 2007) and the cigar friendly atmosphere that will probably make this a regular destination.

I held back on the 5 because, honestly, why would I want to stay in Monrovia?!  All the shopping is in Pasadena anyway.

I stayed here for five nights while visiting Someone Special in Monrovia (how many people in the world can claim that?).  My room was modern, clean and spacious -- not only was there a TV facing the bed, but ANOTHER TV in a little side alcove with a sofa. One thing: I really wish they had safes in the room. Oh, and the sound on one of my TVs kept fading in and out.  I didn't care enough to complain or try the other TV, though.

The room was quiet and dark, with blackout curtains. Except they need to bring the curtains down to the ground. There was a little crack of light that came through between the curtain hem and the windowsill each morning. I like it pitch black.

The best part was the bathroom -- recently redone very nicely with a shower big enough for two!

A great little home away from home in Monrovia!

A pleasant surprise! Wife and I got a package which was a room and tickets to the Renaissance Fair for a great price, we stayed two nights. The room was nice, and the modern design was a nice surprise as compared to most hotels. The restaurant in the hotel was outstanding! We thought we would be getting diner at surrounding restaurants in the area however after the 1st visit we went back the next night as well to try other entries. Had the feel of a chef putting together a menu not a corporate chain.
Only things we could ding the room on was that the AC was a bit loud in the middle of the night, and there was one hanging light we never could find a switch for. very minor issues.
Things that the hotel did right to boost our experience: While there was a free shuttle service to and from the renaissance fair, it was overwhelmed at the close of the fair and we found ourselves in a line for the shuttle that took about 40 minutes round trip. However after the 1st one departed, 20 minutes later cabs pulled up (called by the hotel at no cost to us) to pickup all the remaining guests who were waiting. Back at the hotel they had bottles of water for returning guests. Now that could have been out all day but after a long day it was a small thing that went a long way.

I recently went here for a wedding reception and it was fabu. Modern look, fountains, chic outdoor pool, a Starbucks.. Even the restrooms were impressive. The food was tasty and the banquet hall was perfect for a medium sized wedding.
