Ok CLEARLY I don't spend enough time at pricey hotels, because I thought this place was great and everyone else seems to have a list of complaints.

I stayed here one night for a during a business trip, and was really happy with everything. I got a cookie upon check in, which is something I've never seen. I was also upgraded to a king bed since I didn't actually need two doubles that my company's travel dept booked.

The room itself was great too. The wireless internet was speedy, the coffee was good, and the bed was so nice I could barely get up in the morning.

Only downside is there isn't any shuttle from the airport, but they did offer a Town car if I wanted one...but I'm not that fancy.

Clean bed? Check.  Clean shower?  Check.  Sweet mini fridge for my inevitable leftovers?  Check.

The basics are certainly covered here.  An extra perk was that our radio had a jack for our iPods.  The tv's were still rockin the fishbowl effect, but why watch tv when you can be out in the California weather?!

The staff can best be described as "meh."  I had locked myself out of the room and they refused to let me go back in as MY name wasn't on the room, but my roommates/coworkers was.  They came up with ZERO solution while I paced worried that I could miss my flight.  Granted, I was the brilliant genius who closed the door, but really?  They weren't going to at least seem like they care to help?

Luckily, being quick-witted, I asked if I could be escorted by one of their workers to ensure that I don't steal any of my own belongings from the room I inhabited for the entire week.  They also seemed to have charged my roomie's card when she had to switch rooms after my arrival.  Now, keep in mind, this was for work so her card was put on the room for incidentals - which there were none.  Yet they charged her?  They revoked the charges almost instantly, but again, really?

I've heard horror stories about where our work has put us up in the past, so I'm not willing to complain too much.  Just fair warning: watch your card balance and keep your key on you at all times.

If all you need is a clean bed and a hot shower in Santa Monica, then this place will do.

I live less than 15 miles from here, but due to expected drinking for a business event, I decided to spend the night.

It's been a while since I've stayed at a Doubletree, but the room seemed like their typical standard room.  TVs were disappointing as they didn't have LCD flat panels.

Front desk staff was friendly and efficient.  All employees made an effort to greet you as you walked through their hotel, so this was cool.

prime locations makes for over-priced hotels rooms.

wait, let me rewind a little.  the doubletree in santa monica is sufficient, clean, good location -- basically it's standard as far as "convention style" hotels go...

more specifically, it's a decent room with normal amenities and such although because it's it's location in SM the rooms are on the smaller side...

the bf and i lucked out with a nice view of the ocean from our rooms (both times we stayed there) and there's a standard pool + hot tub (that's heated in the winter!) but if it weren't for the fact of it's location (and the fact that other places are WAY WAY WAY overpriced) we probably wouldn't have stayed there more than once...

on the plus side, you're only a hop and skip away from SM's main street, 3rd street, and venice and marina del rey aren't too far south...

it's an ok hotel with a substandard hotel gym. Location is ok, but there's probably alot better places to stay if you don't need to be in the exact location.

Consider it overpriced to comparables

Great location if you want to be near the Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd Street Promenade as they are a close walk to the hotel. I found the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful. Rooms were typical of Doubletree Suites - though the bathroom entrance to the bedroom had a sliding door. We didn't have a fridge either which seemed weird (there was a minibar with no key instead?) Internet is free but parking is not. I guess I would stay here again if I needed to be in L.A., but I'm not really a beach person, so most likely I would stay closer to downtown.

So I have this...umm...friend, right?

You know, that friend that you're super close with and she tells you everything and you know all the details of her life to the point where it's almost like the two of you are the same person?

Yeah, that kind of friend. You know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, this friend is like seeing this totally hot guy (I've seen him and he's seriously something special) and they're going out on nice dinner dates and having tons fun and stuff, right? Not only that, but he's getting them rooms at hotels where they can crash for the night after a long night out so she doesn't have to drive home tired and possibly fall asleep at the wheel (And note: he's doing it because he's just a nice guy like that! Don't get any ideas now - she's not that kind of girl!).

Well, she was telling me about this one night where they had just had a fantastic dinner at a restaurant on Beverly and they're all dressed up and snazzy and went to the Doubletree hotel afterwards...but he didn't tell her they were going to the hotel beforehand so she didn't bring a change of clothes. So the morning after, she woke up and realized she was stuck wearing the super nice dress she was wearing the night before! (I know - how embarrassing, right? I totally felt her pain...)

From what this friend tells me though, the hotel staff was really nice and didn't even look at her funny when she showed up to get breakfast downstairs the next day, even though she was wearing this super cute dress and hot heels (and she did look super cute!). Even better, they had an omelette bar at the hotel restaurant downstairs! (And she really loves omelettes...)

So I think the Santa Monica Doubletree deserves a couple stars and a review for that - for being nice and not making me feel any more embarrassed than I already was...I mean, than she already was!

This was totally all my friend.

It totally didn't happen to me.

I stayed here for a couple of months (yes, months!) and my husband stayed almost a year at this place. So, workers became family and friends.

We loved the location of this place, right near the Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade. Also, the Beach Shuttle stop is right outside the hotel.

Rooms were always impeccable, never had any issues with dirty rooms or lack of attention to detail. We loved the restaurant downstairs and with two kids, we frequented it quite often. The staff was always patient because we did have two kids and we were constantly in and out, without any problems.

If I were to ever go to Santa Monica, this would be one place I would revisit and not have a problem doing so.

I thought overall, the hotel was pretty nice. I think they have had a recent remodel in the main areas however, because it smelled faintly of fresh paint.

The staff was very friendly. When I pulled up, the valet grabbed my keys and helped me with my loads of junk. The check in was equally friendly and efficient. I had let the valet know that I didn't want to valet my car but preferred to self-park. He helped me back up and get turned around so I could go in the garage (I'm a parking and driving idiot).

The room was clean and nicely decorated. It could have used a little updating in terms of things like TVs and some of the furniture, but the bed was comfy and the place was spacious.

I'm docking a star for the internet. As mentioned in previous reviews, it sucks. It would drop out constantly. Doubletree as a whole caters towards business people and while I'm sure this particular location gets more tourists, I find is ridiculous that the signal is so spotty. At least give me a jack then to plug into. The only nice thing is that it was free, normally Doubletree charges about $9.95 per day for access.

The other star gets knocked off for food. I was exhausted and I didn't want to leave the hotel. So I ordered room service. It was $35. Really? I guess they'll get you anyway they can. The next morning I grabbed a muffin from their Starbucks in the lobby. My grande chai and muffin ran me $7, something that I would normally get for $4 any place else. It's really dumb that they nickle and dime like that.

I think I'm going to explore other options before returning to this location. It's nice, and I could see myself coming back if I was going to vacation but as a business traveler (which is the majority of my travel), I'd like a little bit more bang for my buck.

Reasonable business travel hotel.  Obnoxiously priced parking.  Wonderful breakfast buffet (even though a bit pricey).  I would stay here for business again, but not for pleasure even though its close to the beach.

The room was overpriced for what you get and very bland.  We felt like we were trapped in the room, there isn't much light as the suite room faces the interior of the hotel.

The room service had good food, but if I were staying in Santa Monica again, I would look elsewhere.

I've been staying here the last week for work training and to just be in the area to see my girlfriend and some old college friends.  Let me just start off by saying that the normal nightly rate is $300/night, but with my corporate discount it's $170/night ($203 after tax and fees).

I'm pretty disappointed with the place.  The room is nice and all but it's just not enough for what costs $300.  There are two TVs in the suite (2 rooms + bath) but they are both 27" CRTs with bulbous screens and really poor sound quality.  There are only two tiny trashcans for the entire place.  Neither of my TV remotes worked when I first got there.  The wireless is usually good but tends to drop at random times.

The gym is a bit small and the pool is not lit at night even though we're allowed to be out there until 10pm.  The pool is only 4' max!  The concierges downstairs expect to be tipped for hailing cabs that wait not 30' away even if I have no luggage and they don't even open the door.

At least the wakeup calls are on time and there are plenty of towels, blankets, and pillows.  The bathroom amenities are all Neutrogena, so that's decent.  For some reason the cleaning crew doesn't take away my old newspapers, but they'll get the tips lying RIGHT ON TOP of said newspapers.  They also feel compelled to constantly open my curtains to the facing hallway.

Water is $5.99 a bottle, and I swear I can see the concierges frowning if they see me bringing in outside food and water.  The closet is actually kind of small.  The living room area feels weird, there's an empty wall with a lot of empty space.  I asked for a floor as low as possible, close to the elevators, facing the Promenade and beach.  All I got was close to the elevator.  Now that I face Olympic Blvd, I wake up at 7am to the lovely construction sounds going on at the complex right across the street.

The climate control regulation is not great.  I set it at 68 and I swear it vacillates +/- 8 degrees.  I'm constantly putting on and taking off socks.

I wish I had stayed at the Ambrose.  It was closer to work and the same price with corporate discount.  Boo Doubletree.

This hotel got 3 stars for location and the bar, everything else was average.  Check in staff wasn't pleasant (actually quite rude), my parking pass rarely worked and was a pain every morning.  The food (I work out of town and have to eat at the hotel alot) was decent but nothing fantastic.

I've moved to the Sheraton which does a much better job for the money.

I'm very sad the rooms here look like senior housing.  It was really depressing.  I did like how open the center of the place was and you could look down into the lobby from each floor.  Not good for those who are afraid of heights.

The bar was very quiet and the bartender made a mean greyhound (okay, she made two mean greyhounds).

I got a pretty sweet discount at this hotel via Priceline.  (I otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford it, and probably wouldn't have given it 5 stars if i had paid full-price....).
Anyway, my gf and i stayed here and were very impressed.  Our friends paid more than we did for a dumpy motel further down in Venice, so we were stoked to see we had a spacious 2-room suite;  We totally weren't expecting to have a whole extra room with a sofa, large desk, and extra tv.  The bed was very nice, nice bathroom amenities.  Only complaint would be I wish all hotel shower heads were higher in general.  Oh, and the room/ceiling vibrated severely around 7am - I think the laundry room must've been nearby...
There was plenty of parking in the deck, too.  I don't like having to pay extra for parking, but whatever, i guess you pay for the piece of mind of parking in a secure facility.
I didn't think the workout room was smaller than most hotel gyms.  Sure, it prolly could've used some more weight machines, but there were 2 ellipticals, 2-3 treadmills, a cable-cross, and some free-weights.  Most of those other weight machines go unused anyway, so no big loss.
I also thought the pool area was fine - not too small.  And if it had been warmer, i definitely would've hung out there.
We also thought the staff was very friendly and helpful.  They give everyone warm cookies when checking in, and they helped with walking directions and let us leave our car parked there a little longer while we walked around Santa Monica after checking out.
I would definitely recommend this hotel (but i'm not used to paying as much as their regular rates are, so if you can afford their regular rates, i'm not sure how it would compare to similar hotels in its class....)

Wow don't go here. This place is real junky. There is a spooky glass elevator and the rooms are no frills and the cost is about three hundred a room. I would describe the style as beach modern but that is giving it too much. It is more like beach crap. They are a special breed here... hotel predators and a lot of tourists are going here-easy prey.  The pool is small and the place is slow on a Saturday night.

Here for my friend's brunch birthday party. She booked it @ the jazz lounge upstairs. The service exceeded my expectations. I just had to glance, they walked right over. Everything was thought of. There always was some help around to take plates, utensils, refill glasses, tea/coffee cups, serve slices of cake, make the omelets & oversee that we had a fun time.

My favorite was the fresh pineapple. Having just flown in from Hawaii, it tasted just as fresh as I had there. The watermelon was good too. I asked the omelet lady to make me sauteed spinach. The first time a tiny portion was served. I asked her to make twice as much. She did, 2nd time better. It was so good I asked for a 3rd round, which tasted the best & there was @ least 3x as much as the first round.

The parking system is most confusing. The machine is out of order in the lobby. We self-parked. When we left the party, we were given a parking stub card. We presented it to the desk clerk, paid $12.00 & still had to insert the parking card in the badge reader upon departure.

I thought this was a decent hotel. Nothing fancy, but the suites are a good size for three people. Plus, you're within walking distance to the Santa Monica Mall and Third Street Promenade. The food at the "4th Street Grill" in the restaurant was decent. At first I was a little skeptical since we were the only ones dining at the restaurant one evening. Lo and behold, the food was good. I'd stay at this hotel again. Not a bad deal if you can get a rate in the low $200s or even lower.

Just ok.  Three stars basically for the staff.  They were all VERY friendly and professional.  Every person was attentive to my needs.  Unfortunately, the room smelled and wasn't kept up.  I had room service and it wasn't tasty at all.
