The Double Wide is my favorite bar in Deep Ellum! Why? Because I love trailers and I love drinking in trailers! The place is suitably trashy in a fun way. Truth is there are bars in other cities that wish they could be this awesome but they don't have the room! The bartenders are of hipster breed so when I got excited to be there they made fun of me.
In addition to the bar there's also a separate building for live music.
When looking for this bar look for the spinning tornado.

Reasons to Go:

Not going to lie, this was such a great bar. I love how it doesn't matter what your label is, this bar could work for you.

Easy going, good drinks, live music and great hangout.

My favorite bar in Dallas hands down. Maybe that does not mean much to y'all since I'm not well known, but it means a lot to me! Okay, so the location here is perfect, outskirts of Deep Ellum and close to Amsterdam Bar and Meridian Room, etc...

As what Debz said, "kitchy trashy cool" is a perfect description of this place, sounds like an album name. Come here, park yourself at the bar, and order a PBR...always a good equation. The lighting here in dark and has a bunch of random accessories all throughout...very relaxing feel. The courtyard is my favorite, especially with the "Barry Manilow Live at San Quentin" mural! The courtyard is a place where you can find you and your friends talking for hours. And the music room on the other side is where the live music happens, cool place. Think they have live music every night of the week. Check it out for sure! Just a real chill place.

This is one of the best bars in Dallas. Its got a very friendly atmosphere that may at times feel like a real-life "Cheers" for its regulars. Good times are always present here. You can enjoy various events such us rock DJs on Tuesday nights and great local shows on particular weekdays and always on the weekends. A great place to drink and socialize. the staff is excellent and when you become a regular, you start to feel at home.

cool space.  hard to find.  They have decent bands here, and the funky 20 somethings that like it.
Signs of life outside of Deep Ellum; they're tryin'.   My bartender didn't know how to make a manhatten.  hmmm.

Everyone else has pretty well explained the concept and charm of the Double Wide.  Velvet paintings of cats and naked chicks, zombie murals, animal heads, Blue Moon on draft, PBR in a can... what's not to love?  The staff and the people watching are stellar.

I also have to say the Double Wide knows how to throw a mean theme party:

1.  Double Wide Anniversary complete with mechanical bull.  Sure, the bull kept blowing the power but it was super fun.  The bruises lasted for weeks.

2.  Orphanage Fundraiser raffle with kickass music and kickass raffle prizes.  I won tickets to see the English Beat.

3.  4th of July Parking Lot Pool Party, complete with kiddie pools, water guns, grilled weiners, and fireworks.  Sure, I came close to getting my hair caught on fire, but isn't that what the 4th is all about?  Celebrating our freedom to act like fools?

I can pretty much recommend Double Wide for any night, but the big bashes are not to be missed!

I have been meaning to review the DW for a long time, but after the last couple of weeks, it's been on my mind more.  Maybe because Showtime is currently showing "The Night of the White Pants," a movie that was shot in part at the DW a few years ago.  Maybe because my latest experience at Club Dada was so incredibly disappointing, after which I showed up at the DW for a decent drink and air conditioning!

I've been going to the DW since it opened many years ago.  The drinks are good, the staff is friendly, and generally everyone in there is nice.  During the week, it's mostly regulars, but I've seen strangers from out of town stumble upon it and have a great time.  The bartenders will take the time to introduce out-of-towners to other patrons, offer them menus of good restaurants that will deliver, and just generally make them feel welcome.

There's always live music in the venue side on the weekends, and the great part about having the venue separate is that you only have to pay a cover charge if you're going in that side.  You never pay a cover charge just to go in the bar for a drink.  Also, since the smoking ban has taken effect, you don't have to worry about smelling like smoke, but smoking is allowed on the outdoor patio.

On the weekends, parking can be a little tricky, but they always have someone walking around the  nearby lots to ensure the safety of everyone and their vehicles.

Good people, good drinks, good times!

After nearly a year of passing by this place I finally managed to make it over to the Double Wide. I had been wanting to try it out as I heard it was a really quirky atmosphere that one truly needed to experience. I really enjoyed the dark/mood lighting and trailer accessories placed around the bar area. Random paintings, couches, TV's, and many other things unique to this place lend itself to a fun time or a place to relax and listen to the jukebox.

My initial reason for going over to Double Wide was to watch a coworkers band play. I wasn't totally happy with paying a cover to listen, but I guess that's just me wanting it to be free. Either way it wasn't very much and there is a bar in the listening area as well. After witnessing a coworker wearing extremely tight white pants I decided it was in my best interest to begin blacking that from my memory. Drinks are of a relatively decent price. Very comparable to most places around. I would say that some of them weren't as strong as I would have preferred but it did depend on which bartender I ended up getting. I think the main bar area poured better drinks than the venue area but its hard to say as I had many, many, drinks that night.

I didn't spend much time on the patio but it was pretty large and on a nice evening a group of people could sit outside and enjoy one another's company very easily.

There was a parking lot off to the side of the building that you can park in. A security guy was walking around checking things out and as far as I know the parking was free. We didn't pay and our car wasn't towed so I guess you can take that as free. You should be able to find a spot but if not you can drive around the corner and park on a side street. Like most places in the Deep Ellum area you could have a little walk if you park far away. You shouldn't have to though.

I will definitely spend more time over at the Double Wide and try out their custom drink concoctions, as I hear they are very good.

The Double Wide is definitely a go-to bar.  There's always good fun to be had here.  First off, the decor in the main bar area is genius... think taxidermied javelinas, velvet Elvis paintings, retro TV playing random B movies, and a Big Buck Hunter game complete with shotgun.  They also have their own custom drink concoctions like Boone's Farm martinis and white russians made with YooHoo.  The bartenders are always nice, and the drinks are good and strong.  It's the antithesis to the Dallas ultralounge where you pay $12 for a club soda with a splash of McCormicks.

I also love coming to shows at the DW, because if you get tired of watching the band, you can always go hang out on the patio or kick it with the regulars in the separate, main bar area.  In fact, the only thing I don't like about this place is the parking, which is hard to find on a weekend and you're always a tad worried you're going to come back and your car isn't there.  Good times.

Oh Double Wide, I love you, but you have given me one hell of a hangover today.  OUCH!

This is always a great bar to hang out in.  I know the beer is cheap, but they must charge a fortune for liquor and shots, because I had a huge bar tab.  That would probably explain the hang over.  :)

The only thing I do not like about this place is that smelling like an ashtray the next morning!!

I know all about trailers since I grew up in small-town Tennessee and because my parents own trailers in a trailer park that they rent out to people. Those double wides have cars on blocks, guys named Bubba, fried Bologna, Koolaid, and people drinking moonshine; this Double Wide has bands, cool people with tattoos, and festive drinks.

I have only been to the Double Wide one time before the Yelp party. I liked it, but I just never seem to be going anywhere near Deep Ellum that would justify stopping in here. But when I do come here I have to admit that I like it. I like the tongue-in-cheek trailer park decor. I like the bartenders. I like the specialty drinks made with things like Yoohoo, Tang, and Boone's farm. I really like that the bartenders make these drinks very very strong - this makes me very very happy. I like that you have the option of sitting in the main room (the "trailer"), the patio, or seeing a band in the back room. Overall it is a chill place to have a strong drink and hang out and see a band play.

After getting to see a show at the Double Wide that wasn't private, I must say it's a good venue.  Being short I couldn't see much, but that's nothing new.

The drinks were good and strong apparently, because I was in serious need of a nap.  My favorite part about the whole thing though is that I like to sit on the toilets.  Yep.  I'm dirty dirty, but it's true.

I also love the patio.  You can smoke, or get away from smoke.  It was a little chilly last night though, so I attempted to scorch my head next to the lamp thingamagig.

Double Wide is still cool.  I want to go again for a happy hour and sit at the bar sometime though.

"OMG we had that lamp at home growing up". Hrm. We didn't live in a doublewide, but I can definitely relate to this place. Talk about feeling at home! First time I came (years ago!) it wasn't long after they first opened and the "beautiful 500" had taken residence and, well, at 30 I no longer have the patience to jockey to the bar around skinny girls wearing 2 yards of fabirc.

They seem to have moved on, thankfully, and the bar appeared to be full of laid back, cool folk. Beers are purty cheep, decor is fun, interesting reading on the bathroom wall... I gotta be comin' here more often!

Have been going to Double Wide for some time now. Its our staple, we may be away for a few weeks but our return is always welcomed and fun. Always guaranteed a good time, kitchy trashy cool. The bartenders are always fun and friendly, see Alison and Khurk for the best service and drinks EVER!! And Kimmie who owns the gaff is a hoot and a sweet sweet lady. The crowd is ever changing depending upon the band/themed night. There is the regular bar, a great courtyard and a whole other band/stage room with a bar too. Great for all types of shows Drrty RNR, punk, country, experimental, alternative...you name it it plays here at some point.
I love this place, have never had a bad experience with any staff or regulars everyone is happy and some a little crazy. Always makes for good people watching. Try it on a weekend for your first time ...you wont be disappointed! oh and their parties are always fun...Kim goes all out with decor and entertainment. I love you Double Bubble!!!

I dig the separate trailers - one for live bands or DJs and the other for a chill dive bar for the regulars.  The staff is also friendly and pretty funny.  Sound system is really good and the music played in the regulars bar is borderline amazing.  Cheaper-ish drinks and outdoor area for your fresh-air needs.

After living in Chicago with a smoking ban in place for over a year now, it was an adjustment going back to smoking indoors.  Not that I smoke (anymore) but smelling like ass in the morning is definitely not something I miss.  And listen up darlings, it's only a matter of time before you get your very own smoking ban.  And it's not all bad, ok??  Have mercy on the ex-smokers!

And if you see a saucy broad named Brenna hanging around, tell her that her best friend Carri says to stop being a whore and that I miss the shit out of her.  Dont worry, she'll love it!

The Double Wide was the very first bar we stopped at on our trip to Dallas. And I have to say I was impressed to see in a bar that reminded me of Seattle. In the way that the Double Wide had the makings of a successful dive bar that could hold its own with any Seattle dive bar. The Double Wide passed all the "Dive Bar Requirements".

Here are my Dive Bar Requirements:
-Dim lighting(good thing)
-Loud music/Jude box(good thing)
-Cheap beer(great thing)
-Smells of cigarette smoke(good thing)
-Booth seating(good thing)
-Hipster hangout(kind of a good thing ;)

Go on a Wednesday because all their drafts are half-off! Where as you can get 3 draft beers for only $8 dollars and that's a steal in any book! The bartenders were great and the crowd was cool!! So it's not often that I get to hang out in a double wide trailer but I am proud to say I am Double Wide fan!!

Yes, we all get it.  It's a trailer with a tornado on top.  We can all pretend to be rednecks in a trailer.  Unless there's a band playing, there's really not a lot going on.  They might have a DJ.  They might have a theme night.  If trhere's not a lot of cars out front don't bother stopping.

I'm not sure if it's a dive bar or supposed to be mocking the dive bar.  Either way, there are better places with beer and music.  I do go for the occasional show.  The venue set up is pretty good, but not as good as Lola's in Fort Worth.

Woohoo! Went here again after Meridian Room the other night and had a ball of a time with Joseph B and Anthony P. The place was pretty quiet since it was early, but the silence was broken up with sounds coming from the TV playing The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Love that movie!

I ordered my favorite concoction, the Yoohoo Yeehaw of course. The chocolate dreamy flavor of Yoohoo mixed with a good amount of vodka and a splash of chocolate syrup sends me into a happy trance every time. Joseph ordered the Twisted Tang, and was happy to down it in about three minutes. Nice work, J!

I'll have to come back to catch another show soon and mingle with the nice clientele and bar staff. The last time I was in here, the bartender made shots of the Yoohooo Yeehaw. Yes. Me likey. Come play!

Double Wide is a good dive bar.  It's perched right between Fair Park and Deep Ellum off of Commerce.

The Double Wide is a great Deep Ellum alternative.  Actually, considering that Deep Ellum is a complete pit these days, it's no longer just an alternative -- it's a destination.  Frequented by tattoo-clad hipsters, service-industry people who don't want to drink with the people they serve and liberal, creative, loft-dwelling locals alike,  Double Wide has an eclectic crowd of down-to-earth people who like beer in a can and and a shot of Bush Mills.

The douche count is low.

The decor is country, but it's done in a quasi-ironic way.  You'll find plenty of country hits on the juke box, but you'll also find a mix of other great stuff.  This isn't like Adair's on Commerce.  That's a country bar - a young country bar at that.

That's right, I know the difference.  So what?

You can come into Double Wide with boots and leather on, but you're far more likely to be the front man of a local rock band than a cowboy.

Speaking of which, they have a pretty decent venue with lots of solid acts.  I've seen a few different types of bands here, but I think they lean towards modern southern rock / rockabilly.

The only downside is the shit neighborhood that surrounds Double Wide.  I've heard of friends' cars broken into when they've parked up the street and one time I saw a smashed window in the parking lot!  Always keep your guard up in this part of town!

Double Wide is a bit far out of my way for me to visit all the time, but when I'm hanging with friends who live around the Swiss Ave. area, we like to hit it up.

Three and a half stars.

Hit the Double Wide for the first time on a Wed about 10pm...wed is half priced drafts = $2.50 for a pint of Boulevard, Stella, Dos Equis and a couple others.  Arriving alone I found some elbow room at the bar and ended up having a great conversation with a regular patron and the bartender, Dave, who is really chill.  Had 4 pints and for the novelty factor had a can of Lone Star for $4.

Definitely a locals spot with alot of walk-ins from the apartments near-by.   And it has one of my favorite two-player video games ever--Buck Hunter--for $5 bucks you and a friend can compete for about 15 minutes to see who can nail the most bucks and other critters with your fast pump shot-guns.
And I call myself a pacificist?

Only negative would be that IMHO a jukebox is spendy at 50 cents a song.  But with cheap brews, guess they have to make some $ somewhere.

I'll be back to check it out on a night they have live music.

This place could be much better but I get the vibe they (and the general clientele there) are content with simply being mediocre.  There is a $15 min on credit cards which I couldn't quite comprehend, the prices were a tad on the expensive side for what this bar is (a dive in Deep Ellum) and the bartender was a bit surly for a nice Thursday afternoon.  Oh, and one can only take so much ska-punk until it gets pretty annoying.

The kitchy decor was fun and the beer cold but that's about all the Double Wide has going for it as far as I can tell.  This might be some peoples thing (shitty service coupled with expensive drinks and crap music) but it definitely isn't mine.  Decor = great, everything else = needs vast improvement.

The Double Wide is located on the outskirts of Deep Ellum, on Commerce St.  Atop the bar, which is literally a double wide trailer, sits a large rotating Tornado. I know right, classy. The double wide takes its partially cheeky, partially genuine affection for all things trailer park, and runs with it.

Inside the suprisingly large trailer (i only got me a single-wide) is a couple of small bathrooms, a jukebox, a long bar, and some plastic covered furniture.  The decor is classic 20th century redneck chic, with velvet paintings of half naked women,  wall-mounted fish, and taxidermy.  They have one small television in the corner that is usually playing tornado disaster videos.  Classic black and white films have also been known to feature.

They have a few beers on tap, shiner included.  But if you want to really get in the spirit of things, or are needing some supplies for your meth lab....they have a nice collection of canned beer.
Adjacent to the trailer is a small open area with outdoor seating.  Accross this patio space is the entrance to the stage area that features mostly local mostly rock artists.  For a weekly listing of who's playing there, see their ad in the Dallas Observer, or checkout the website.  Its a small little venue, with not much in the way of room, or ventilation, or acoustics...but that just makes it perfect for a small imtimate set.  There is also a small bar in the back so you dont have to skoot on back to the trailer for a refill.

Overall i love this place. Its small, its cheesy, its cool, its smart, and its most of all...texas.

What a great little dive bar and awesome intimate music venue.  Bartenders are courteous, Kimi the owner is down to earth and hot, and the crowd there is out to have fun. Great bands at this spot. Stop just driving by, come check her out. I had such a great experience this weekend after having to endure the reek of CAT URINE at the Amsterdam Bar and their crowd of misfits! That spot is for the pasty, overweight nerds that just never really grew up.

YEAH!!! HIPSTERS!!!! WOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Double Wide has quickly established itself as the home to many a Dallas Hipster. The lone star in a can is cheap yet trendy. The local bands that frequent the back stage area usually suck, but hey, they look like the Killers, so they rock, right? The inside has a jukebox and plastic covering all the furniture. They certainly go with the theme . . . all this being said, it's a great dive bar. It's popular with the cool kids, and I mean the COOL kids, not the uptown kids who are too busy poppin' collars to notice they are being overcharged for whiskey that's probably not what they claim it is.

And they have a fake tornado on the roof . . . yeah . . . I said it . . .

God bless the Double Wide. And God bless white trash themed bars that hipsters-hang-out-at-because-they-have-lone-star-i n-a-can-and-because-it's-somehow-become-the-place- to-hear-your-downstairs-neighbor-play-songs-that-s ound-more-like-a-dying-cat-than-Gang-of-Four EVERYWHERE!!

I luv dive bars! There wasn't a band playing on this Wednesday night, but it was pretty chillax. It wasn't infiltrated by the SMU dweebs or collar poppers so that was a major plus+++++!  I had few Crown on the Rocks, my fav! I then was informed by Melody of the cool specials that they had and I had to try something new, so I opted for the Twisted Tang. Yes, they use Tang! Awesomeness. Just talking about Tang reminded me of the good times when I was younger, ahhhh. Nevertheless this drink was pretty cool; you can definitely taste the Tang and you could definitely taste the alky. Double Cool!

I gotta give props (i never say props) to The Double Wide my home away from home when in Dallas (my parents home).  No matter where the night takes us, we will eventually end up here.  I will always and i mean always see a familiar face, which is nice for a x-mas break or summer stop in Dallas.  Good cheap beers in CANS, great patio and a whole other section for live music.  Good Bar, i hope it sticks around for a long time.  Dallasites looking for a good dive bar, must go here.  for real. Best part is:  it IS a double wide....

It seems every time I end up in Dallas, I end up at the Double Wide. As I mentioned in my Lee Harvey's review, I'm still trying to figure out what's up with the white-trash themed bars since I've not lived in Dallas since the mid-'90s.

I get all the novelty and kitsch-factor (and I love kitsch), but I'm just kind of "eh" about the whole place.

My boyfriend loved the '80s punk and rock on the juke though. And the funniest part had to be when an old acquaintance walked up and I had to think really hard about whether he was in costume with a jean jacket and American flag hat. I'm still not sure about that one...

My favorite place because: eclectic mix of people - you can go inside for smokey, quiet bar time, you can chill outside with fun-loving hippies or hipsters, or you can go across the way to check out an indie, punk, or metal show. And the murals are something to write home about: like an eyeless woman with big tits and a cameltoe. Hmmm...

You want the perfect kitchy Texas-themed one-of-a-kind bar to take out-of-towners?  The Double Wide is it!  With a rotating tornado atop an actual double wide trailer, the detail in the trailer trash decor is perfect.  A mounted deer head on the wall, year-round Christmas lights, PBR served in the can, velvet paintings, the list goes on.  The bar was near-closing not too long ago but luckily one of the bartenders wouldn't let that happen and bought it herself.  Wow, Dallas could benefit from more citizens like her!  Maybe if more of us rallied around our favorite city spots we could've prevented the Deep Ellum Bridge from being demolished to make way for another DART rail station that unfortunately no one will use.  But I digress....

As for the 4 stars...there was one night that I went to see a band at the DW and the smoke was so insanely thick in the music venue area that I actually started to pass out.  I started seeing stars and got tunnel vision so I forced some people to make room for me on one of the benches.  I assumed it was the heat (that music venue gets hot and has little-to-no ventillation) because I instantly felt better outside.  So I went back in and as soon as I inhaled that toxic air it happened again, so I had to leave.  What a waste of my cover $!   So now I know that I can't see shows there which is a bummer, considering Dallas' lack of mid-sized venues thanks to the recent closings of some of the best venues in town - Trees, Gypsy Tea Room, and Ballroom.  And now that I am wheat-free and can't drink beer, I rarely go to the DW because they don't carry a wheat-free alternative like ciders.  BUT it is still one of the city's best bars and is unlike anything else in town, thank goodness.

Nothing really wrong with the Double Wide, I just think I'm not big into the whole 'theme bar' idea.
