For Some reason this Restaurant shows up with two distinct listings that I cannot find at the same time. Here is my review that I did at the other listing.

I'll be honest with you - I live in the lower 48, and I would consider the trip to Alaska just to eat at the Double Musky.

It's been a while since I was there - but I have been 6-7 times. It's wise to either have a reservation or be ready to wait(bring a book). The food is worth waiting for.

They have a variety of appetizers that are worth your time. For those of you that don't enjoy beef - go with the Coconut Salmon; its breath taking. It makes coconut shrimp look like an infants play toy. If you enjoy a bit of beef and it won't ruin the entree then the steak tips with the pepper sauce is outstanding. And even if your going to get the ever famous pepper steak - who cares pile more on.

So, the French Pepper Steak is off the charts. I dont eat meat anymore - and I would still probably have to fall off the wagon for it. I have had it about 6 times. I was a monster steak eater then. I had traveled all through the lower 48 and had some good Anchorage steaks as well. The french pepper steak at the Double musky truly makes them all look like spam in a can. Its stupefying. Its so good that you hate yourself for not having ever had it before.

I just want to say that one night it was blizzard like conditions in Anchorage. And everyone that lives near Girdwood know that snow slides happen a lot on Highway 1 between Anchorage and Girdwood. And my brother and I still drove to girdwood for the French Pepper Steak. And yes - it was worth it. It was amazing. And of course there was not wait that night...LOL

So, if your in Anchorage - even if your on a cruise ship - get off your ass and rent a car and drive to Girdwood and eat some French Pepper Steak. It's really one of the best steaks in the country. I wish I could find the recipe for the pepper sauce without buying their stupid cookbook for one recipe:)

In fact - if you have the recipe by all means message me with it.

So, I have had lots of tasty dessert here too - but if you go - go for the Pepper Steak. And the service is always very professional as well.

My favorite place in the world to eat, so far... Try the petit filet with the Bernese sauce, cream brulee, and the alabama slammer, or the bloody mary.  This is the where all the big names go to eat in Alaska, and it's just an out of the way hole in the wall place.  I LOVE IT!!!  I have eaten there over 50 times, a little expensive but worth it.

The Double Musky! What a great name for Cajun restaurant located on a dirt road in the woods of Girdwood.

Came here during the Friday night rush and was able to grab two seats at the bar. I did not eat here that night (big lunch in Anchorage earlier in the day) but my friend who lives in town was raving about their apps and entries. The menu looked amazing but were specificly came for the pom-rita's which were devine!

I've also heard it was mentioned on food network.

Check it out!

Fan-freaking-tastic restaurant!   What a great way to wrap up a business trip to Anchorage.

This is a cajun restaurant decked out in Mardi Gras drag (the place literally drips with beads and tchotchkes- there isn't an inch of space that isn't covered with something fun or New Orleans-esque).   Almost everything on the menu is spicy in some way, even the bread (a huge cheesy, crusty roll filled with minced jalapenos).

I had the "French Pepper Steak", which one organization rates as the "Best Steak in America".   I would have to agree.   The brontosaurus-sized steak was almost 3 inches thick, with a crackling pepper crust, tender-as-can-be interior perfectly cooked medium to order,  and drenched in a brandy sauce.  I'm salivating thinking about it.   How anyone can also eat a baked potato in addition to this steak is beyond me, and I can eat most people under the table (in more ways than one).

Our service was very good despite the place being packed to the bead-filled rafters.  BTW, we howled over the "Mardi Gras Barbie" hanging from a rafter next to the table.  Shehad her top pulled up over her tits.

If you make the trip to Anchorage, do yourself a favor and make the field trip to Girdwood to dine at the Double Musky Inn.

The food here is so good that we used to come out here for prom dinners and we lived over an hour away.  That is dedication.  Don't let that fool you into thinking that this is a formal place--you'll see jeans and shorts in the summers and snow gear in the winter.  This is a very "Girdwood" kind of place and you'll see that with how laid back everyone is.

The food is phenomenal.  Even though this isn't in Anchorage, it is well worth the drive if you're in town for a visit.  You'll have to traverse through all the back woods and unpaved roads, but once you're there, be prepared for a delicious meal for your taste buds.  Also, understand that more than likely you'll have a wait.  That's okay though because you can grab a drink and start making friends with the other people waiting for a table.  The time will fly by and you'll be sitting down to your perfectly cooked steak or plump crab legs before you know it.

The waitstaff is always friendly.  And laid back.  Do you see a pattern here?  This is not the type of place to come and be rude or through your weight around.  This a place to relax and enjoy yourself.  That is half the charm of this place--you actually need to slow down and just have fun with your food.  There's no need for pretentious behavior here, but that doesn't mean that they skimp on service or quality.

OK...a few quick thoughts up front. there are a few factors that bump this place up to 5 stars. #1 it is by far the best food anywhere around girdwood AK. #2 in the winter time they offer a 50% discount to locals which helps keep my little brother well fed on a tight budget.

the food/service is definitely 4 star caliber, but man...your other fine dining option is the 7 G's...screw that. hoitey toitey blah blah blah restaurant. the only thing that place has goin for it is an incredible view (not really that unique a thing in alaska) and a lot of pretension.

in any event, i've been to the double musky several times. the restaurant has a very rustic atomosphere, not very dressy, and the staff is very very friendly and down to earth, though at times they can be a bit taxed as i think they wait pretty big sections. the king crab legs are absolutely incredible and absolutely worth a few extra $$$. i would stay away from their signature pepper steak. it is good, but i think the filet is far better. beyond grab whatever else on the menu strikes your fancy...it is all good. they also have a fantastic wine list. go to this restaurant...you won't be sorry.

if you run into an employee named chris aka glaze...ask him what there is to do around town. he'll definitely hook you up with lots of great day trip activities. unless you have a portable dialysis machine...definitely DO NOT go drinking with him...esp if its tuesday. if he asks you if you want to join the beer club for life...SAY NO. i promise you...joinin this club will be the worst decision of your life.

First of all, let it be known of my prejudice as the Double Musky Inn is my favorite restaurant of all time.  The worst meal I've had there was only not-as-awesome as the most awesome meal I've ever had.  OK, so you know you're going to get a good review here.

I proposed to my wife on the ski slopes of Mt Alyeska in Girdwood just over eight years ago. We honeymooned at the Alyeska Prince Hotel and dined at the Double Musky Inn partly because it is my parent's favorite restaurant as well.  We've returned every year since on the summer solstice to celebrate our anniversary and every year we've enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Double Musky Inn.  Now, we even take our kids.

The Double Musky Inn is known for their Cajun/Creole food, a cultural unique menu in the heart of Alaskan mountains.  The Food Network once visited and named their Burgundy Pepper Steak as one of the best in the country, and I'll attest of it's quality.

I don't eat big meaty red meat too often, but when I do, I will go all out.  I typically like my beef rare, but not cold.  Ordering medium rare should get it perfect for me with a little pink inside, but this last time it was just a hair over my version of medium rare.  Next time I'll order it rare and see what happens.  Their steak is easily two inches thick and more than enough for one meal.  I gorged myself - another thing I try to avoid, but on this one occasion, I enjoyed the act of gluttonous over eating.

My lovely wife had the absolutely best crab stuffed halibut I've ever tasted!  It was full of flavor, yet not too rich as some many restaurants tend to make it.

In earlier years their Pecan Chicken was wonderful, and I don't typically care for nuts on my food.  All of their Cajun dishes were equally fantastic as well.

One of the best things about the Double Musky is their Mardi Gras decor with an Alaskan twist and their stained glass (by the  way, there is a great story about their stained glass I'll tell in another review sometime.)  There is a trick to getting it as they can be very busy and don't take reservations.  Upon entering, you have to look for the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign until someone takes your name.  It is very crowded and there isn't really a waiting room.  There is a hall in the entrance and a lounge that you may have to wait for a seat.  It's all part of being in the in.

What a charming place.  Restaurant definitely has a lot of personality.  We had 3 in our party and everyone was delighted with their food.  We ordered the Lobster-KaBob and Crab Stuffed Halibut as well as the Filet.  Everything was great.  I think the dessert was just ok though.

Most locals absolutely rave about this restaurant and it has become a prom night favorite for generations of Alaskans.  It has been rated one of the best restaurants in the U.S. and has been featured on the food channel a number of times.  There is even a cook book published revealing their famous recipes.  I don't know if I would go as far to say this one of the best restaurants in America but I will agree it is one the best in Alaska.  As people go straight for their famous pepper stake, the real treat here is the Cajun food.  The crawfish dip is absolutely outstanding.  If I were to list all of the excellent menu items here it would be the entire menu.  Ok I think you get the point.  The Double Musky does have a few downers.  It is very crowded and noisy due to its small size and popularity.  They do not take reservations and you could wait up to an hour or more at times.  I would suggest going early or after eight to lessen the wait.

I grew up in Alaska but never hear about this place until my brother told me about it not long ago.  I came back to Alaska for Christmas and my brother took me and a few others in our family here for dinner after we spent some time at Alyeska.  He made a point for us to get in as early as we could after they opened.  We followed his advice, and as a result we didn't have to wait for a table.  For appetizers we got the scallop-stuffed mushrooms rockefeller and escargot stuffed mushrooms.  Both were very good and the sauce made a great accessory to dip our bread into.  For our main dish, everyone in our party got the french pepper steak which is what the Double Musky is famous for.  It was a lot of food, but the steak was great.  Somehow we still had room for dessert.  I don't know what all we got, but we got just about everything on the dessert menu and it was all good.  The service was very good.  My mom gave me the cook book that was made by the owners of the Double Musky because I like to cook, and they fully disclosed everything that we had in that cook book.  Many of the recipes are fairly advanced and they definitely know how to make them right.  If you are in or around Girdwood or Anchorage you should definitely check this place out.
