Double D's so does that mean the waitress are packin/rackin Double D's....not so fast horn-balls!!!
This place is not like Hooters or some sleezy viet sports bar, the name might portray that but this is actually a nice classy sports bar with decent food and the cleanest sports bar I've ever been to located in the heart of Los Gatos.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pros:
- place is huge, a lot of seating available even on a weekend from chairs to group benches they have it all
- TVs everywhere, there's not a place you can't sit and not see the TV because there's one to your left, right, behind, and probably 2-3 in front of you to choose from all in HD quality
- customer service, comped our Stadium Dog because my friend did not like it and he was allowed to order something else off the menu, can't get better than that :)
- great place for birthday celebrations as they have PA system to announce and sing happy birthday
Cons:
-parking sucks, if you drive into the front parking lot which only has like 7-8 parking spots there's no way out and you will have to reverse back out the same way you came in (one path for enter/exit)
-tables are really close together and don't get stuck sitting next to the entrance as the waiters pass by you with food quite frequently, kind of annoying :(
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Food:
Ball Park Garlic Fries - not the greatest but pretty good like you would get at stadium/ball park
The Four Bagger Combo - this was pretty good, if you have a group of 4 this is the perfect thing to split, it comes with chicken quesadillas, cheesy garlic bread
potato skins, and chicken tostadas all have 4 items of each expect there is only 2 toastadas :(
The Double D Burger - pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary but pretty big in size and pretty good taste
Stadium Dog - really messy, really can't even see the hot dog it self as it is drenched with chili and cheddar cheese, if you want to get dirty order this!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So if you are looking for a classy bar, where there is not a lot of drunk rowdy/annoying sports fans but more of the normal crowd who cheers and roots for their team without being an A-Hole (like it is at most sports bars in the bay area) then come here. Waitresses aren't packing double D's sorry to say but they are cute and are all wearing sports jerseys and customer service here is suburb!!! -
The only reason I'm not giving this place a 1 star is because my server was the sweetest girl ever! And all my servers have been good when I go there. So it sucks that I'm writing this kind of review, but I feel like people need to know.
So the food seems waaay over priced for what it actually is and for the decor. I mean it's good but it's not THAT good. Just seems like this is the only convenient sports bar/restaurant around.
And I will NOT be going back anytime soon, if ever. I'm not sure if this guy was a manager or the owner, but he was a TOTAL JERK/CREEP! I overheard him saying super inappropriate things about female patrons. AND the way he spoke to some of the servers was so rude and uncalled for that I wanted to get up and say something to him (and I totally should have). I wouldn't even talk to my dog the way this guy spoke to the employees. And if that's how this place conducts business I don't want to give them another penny of my money. -
I seriously cannot believe I've been living in and around Los Gatos for 25 years and I've NEVER gone to Double D's. I went to LG and I worked on N. Santa Cruz Ave and still never been until now.
I came here with my family on Tuesday. I had the Turkey Shooter sandwich with sweet potato fries. Yum! They substituted my white bread for wheat and it was perfect!
Service was quick and friendly. No complaints. The prices are higher than I think they should be, but you do get a HUGE sandwich.
Overall, I would come back.Listed in: LG, Bars, Best Burger!
Grab a seat. Grab a beer. Watch your favorite football game. I normally come thru Double D's during happy hour on a Friday afternoon. I can never complain! The drinks are great and reasonably priced! I always have had a great time here.
Just this past weekend, my cousin and I decided to pop on in while waiting for our seats at the Los Gatos Cafe (45 minute wait). We came in and grabbed a beer. I loved the atmosphere on football Sunday! People representing different teams (not just your typical home team fans) and there was every football game televised on TV there! It was such an awesome vibe, we decided to go back after we had lunch to catch the end of the games we started watching!
HIghly recommended for all football fans!
Great bar and restaurant to watch sport's games. Comfortable seating with booths and tables in addition to the bar. Way better than Hooter's. They serve breakfast too! Nice service with efficient seating process and attentive waiters.
Fruit bowl w/ yogurt:
Sweet, fresh, light, and delicious. ($7.95).
French Open:
Terrible french toast. It was doughy and tough even though it was thick Texas toast. The scrambled eggs and bacon was pretty standard. The country fried potatoes were sliced, mixed with peppers and onions, and were not bad. ($11.50).
Cheesy Garlic Bread w/ bacon and tomatoes:
Tasty french bread smothered in cheese and sprinkled with bacon bits and chopped tomato and basil. Tasted almost like pizza. ($6.95 + $1.50).
Great service. Comfy place to hang out for an entire football game. I like that the crowd is mixed with quite a few women too. -
happy hour ends at 5:30...to bad.
We were not very thrilled with Double D's Sports Grille.
We were seated right away and had a "I'm to busy for you" waitress come over to our table. I don't know,her vibe was just off.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich (with slaw) and garlic fries. The sandwich was not very good. The BBQ sauce was so sweet that even my sweet tooth was having a hard time. The meat was cook pretty well. Not much fat to be seen. The roll they used was the best part of the sandwich,nice and chewy. It is a shame that the sauce screwed up this sandwich. The garlic fries were great. Ample garlic and spices.
My dinner mate decided on some baked chicken dish with steamed veggies that were not very steamed at all. I remember her being disappointed with her selection.
There is tones of huge TVs playing every sport you can think of which was cool.
W are not sure if we will give this place another try or not. -
Dropped in at Double D's to watch Monday Night Football last week.
I have not been here for about 5 years, as the food was "subpar".
I was a regular at Johnny's Northside Grill up the street in Los Gatos (now Tommy's), and since Tommy's now stinks (bring back the famous Johnny's BBQ, Tom!), I decided to give Double D's another shot.
They had $3 Corona's for MNF, and I had the Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwich that was filling and pretty good.
They need to increase their selection of Tequilas, but overall it was a good experience. I will probably drop in again this Monday night!
Great service, nice waiters, and they gave away a nice NFL Payton Manning Jersey that my buddy won!
This is a good place to catch all of the games.... -
I definitely would go back here... I cannot believe it took me this long to finally go in here but the other night, it happened..!
Considering that Los Gatos is a common place to class it up and sip on some drinks... I like that this was a more casual hang out. We were here with a pretty big group for their 25th anniversary party, and it was packed! But there were several pool tables, a live band (that was aaawesome), and I just have to mention... plenty of eye candy...haha! I would prefer this place over the clubbin atmosphere of Mountain Charleys any day. -
This place is not like Hooters which is good-:) I'm just saying that because the name sounds kind of suggestive. Anyways, this is a nice, clean, and casual place to eat or drink at. There are lots of different things on the menu such as seafood, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, and lots of other stuff. It looks like there is a full bar there and there are lots of flat screen TVs all over the place.
For the appetizer, we got the mozzarella cheese sticks. We came there early so they had a happy hour special on their appetizers. The price on the menu for it was $8.95 but the happy hour price was $6.00. The sticks were good but it would've been better if they just used a little more seasoning on it. Also, the marinara sauce that they served with it was very bland and it was basically like dipping the sticks into watery canned tomatoes.
I got the Western burger and it was huge. There were lots of sides to choose from such as fruit, salad, baked potato, vegetables, soup, etc...I choose the fries. The burger came with lettuce, a tomato slice, cheddar cheese, bacon, onions, and BBQ sauce. It was good, but I thought the BBQ sauce was a little too sweet for my taste. The service was great and the waitress was nice and attentive. The food is a little pricey for what you get, but since it's in Los Gatos, that's to be expected. -
A long hike at Castle Rock park left me and my friends with healthy appetites and a thirst to be quenched. We ended up here on Memorial Day for a late lunch. Veggie burgers all around with garlic fries and side salads.
Ho hum.
Their margaritas are really yummy though. The service was very very good though. Our waitress was super cute and nice and friendly. Plus, my friend who is a SF Giants fan, SUPERFAN, she got to see the game and pretend she was paying attention to the rest of us. :) -
Second time in a row I got a burger not cooked properly!! I ordered it well done and told the waitress, (who didnt seem to care at all) to make sure it was WELL DONE because the last time I came in it was rare!!! It came back rare AGAIN!! My friends burger came back almost RAW!!! I will not go back for sure now. I was sick to my stomach the last time I ate their burger!!
i had the Penne Primavera it was pretty good, but all pastas get sickening after so many bites.
the Chicken Ravioli with sun dried tomato pesto was really really good! i enjoyed every bite of it! =)
we also ordered the pastrami sandwich and that was also a plus!
garlic fries were perfect. HOT, CRUNCHY, AND GARLIC-y. =D
we came in on a monday, around 6 and surprisingly it was not packed at all.
i would def come back! good place to have some beers and good munchies. -
As the other reviews say, it's a non-Hooters sports bar, with better food! Nice clean, well kept place, lots of big screens, lots of choices, lots of brews, good food, excellent service. As another reviewer said it's a *little* spendy for this type of place but Los Gatos is the Capitol of Spendy so it isn't that bad. Parking in *their* lot is tight but there is plenty of parking all around, not an issue.
I've had the BLT&E (BLT with Egg - excellent idea and tasty!), the French Dip and the "Five on Five" Calzone, ALL excellent. The calzone was served not quite hot enough but it was whisked away and baked further, and my bill adjusted accordingly ('nother brew on the house, so it's all good).
Saw many families on my visits, enjoying themselves, pool tables, etc. Nice spot, I'll be back. -
Los Gatos, CA
When looking for a sports bar in Los Gatos, Double D's offers the best. The staff is always very friendly and you always have a view of the game. Their menu is diverse as well - at our last visit we shared the clams in wine sauce, cheesy bread and spring rolls. Double D's is also kid friendly in addition to offering a few arcade games, pool table and a juke box. Their decor could be updated a bit and on occasion the service can be slow when busy and the parking can be rough, however overall a good experience every time.
I came here to watch The Big Game. The tortilla soup was awful and tasted like watery tomato soup, no flavor at all. I sent it back and ordered the chili. It was also terrible. No flavor and almost no beans! The ground beef was not mixed well either, there were chunks of meatballs instead. Old Pro in Palo Alto is far superior for food quality!
Review from Mike S.
Our weekly football tradition brought my football comrade and I to Double D's Sports Grille in Los Gatos two Sundays ago. Wait a minute, Double D's is a Sports Grille/Bar? You'd think by the name it could easily be something else, a place that might offer some dancers, skimpy bra.... err a bar, and really, really huge... TVs. LOL, but seriously I've been here a few times prior to my visit two weeks ago, but not since when I used to work in Los Gatos just a few blocks away.
Sports Bar meets American Family Restaurant. Double D's is a great place to meet up with friends to catch any sports game (especially football) :) in a really clean and family environment (despite the name of the place). TVs surround the bar and restaurant, and you should be able to watch most, if not all games going on from where you sit.
The Scene (3.75):
By the time we arrived, the place was packed. Luckily they had a table still available for us. While they do offer tons of TVs, I wish some of the TVs were a bit larger, I think most of them are 32". I do like that you can watch most, if not all the games while you are eating. Many fans for different teams filled the bar and well as the tables. If you want to get a good seat, I recommend coming in early. Parking can be a little tricky, as their parking lot is extremely tiny and hardly existent.
Food (3.25 Stars):
From previous visits I've tried their burgers and remember it being tasty.
On this journey we ordered:
- Eggs Benedict (http://media1.px.yelpc...)
- Robert's Breakfast Burrito (http://media2.px.yelpc...)
I wasn't overly impressed with the Eggs Benedict. The backbone to any Eggs Benedict is the hollandaise sauce, and it lacked any true flavor. Also the English muffin was slightly burnt, making it less enjoyable. On the bright side I really enjoyed the potatoes that came with the meal, they were D-liciouis! Next time however, I'll stick with a burger.
Summary (3.5 Stars): Looking for a clean and relaxed sports atmosphere with good food in Los Gatos? Look no further, Double D's is your spot!Listed in: Sports Bars in the Bay
My husband and I love coming here on Friday nights...it's a great way to blow off the week. The food is good, the drinks are good, but most of all, the people who work here are fantastic!!! I've never been somewhere that treats their regular customers so well - it really feels like family.
If you're going to try this place, I recommend trying it more than once. Sample a few things from the menu and get to know your servers. I promise you won't be disappointed with the new friends you'll have after a few visits! -
This place is pretty good for happy hour i'd say. I wouldnt go here during any other times though cause the regular prices are, in my opinion, not quite worth it for the quality of food. The one thing I like a lot are the garlic fries. I am a garlic lover and was amazed about how much fresh crushed garlic and parmesan they pile on their fries.
That being said this place has a really great atmosphere. It's a great place to bring friends, kids, and sports fans who really wanna enjoy the sports. They really stay true to the sports bar genre by actually having TV's everywhere instead of just one big TV in one corner of the bar.
The parking here can be a bit iffy. Theres really only one or two spots in front of the bar so I usually park a block down the street where there is a big parking lot behind a plaza -
I've been here on two occasions (for lunch), and they've both been pleasant experiences. The food is a dollar or two more expensive than you would like, but the portions are outstanding. The service is also very friendly and prompt.
I'll definitely be coming here more often, even if it is just for a quick drink after work! -
Review from Anna V.
This place is pretty much your regular sports bar. They have a separate bar area and a table/booth area for sit down eating. I like that they had the Sierra Nevada Celebration season ale on tap during winter... yum. My favorite winter brew.
Their parking lot is small and awkward. Try to find street parking if you can. -
Review from Daniel G.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food from this place.
Came here this past weekend with a bunch of friends and i honestly wasn't expecting much in the way of food...it is a sports bar after all.
I ordered the Warrior sandwich which was basically like a steak with sauteed mushrooms & onions, and a demi glace on a piece of toast. It was overcooked and the meat itself wasn't all that juicy, but the sauce added just the right amount of saltiness and moisture to make it a really tasty open-faced sando.
My wife ordered the chicken pesto something other sandwich...i thought it was gross, but she seemed to enjoy it just fine.
All in all, this is a great place to catch a game and even a bite to eat, so for what it is, i guess i will go with 4 stars. If i were to rate this place on food/service/ambiance and compare it to a REAL restaurant, it wouldn't be better than 3 stars. -
Normally I like DD's, but showed up for NFL opening weekend and none of their TVs were working. They announced that "it's a worldwide problem with direct tv". We made a few calls and none of our friends were having problems. Went down the street to Tommy's bar and the games are all on. Sounds like it's a DD's problem!
If you're looking for a place to watch the game, ANY game -- NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA Football, etc -- they'll have it at Double D's.
Here's the thing, though, Double D's is as much a family restaurant as it is a great sports bar. I was hoping for just the latter and got quite a bit of the former.
We've always gone for NBA League Pass. Tonight we watched Spurs-Mavs and Lakers-Jazz, as well as part of the Oregon-Arizona and Nevada-Boise St football games. (My sympathy for Boise fans.)
Our waiter (as well as the guy on a date in the adjacent booth) recommended the mozarella, tomato and basil appetizer, which was good, but not really what I was craving while watching sports.
My friend ordered his usual, the fish and chips. I should have followed his lead. Instead I ordered the penne primavera, looking to eat some vegetables and lighter fare after gorging myself for Thanksgiving. It was good, but again, not really what you want at a sports bar. (Maybe I should take responsibility for poor ordering!)
We like Double D's a lot and we'll be back. If you're looking for a great sports bar, or a good family restaurant where you can have a beer and watch a game while spending quality time, you'll probably like Double D's, too.
FOOD: tasty, good portions, but not too exciting. 4-stars *****
SERVICE: attentive and frequent. 5-stars *****
DECOR: big screens and lots of 'em. 5-stars *****
OVERALL: very good, not as good as it gets, but gets 5-stars anyway -
Review from Kenny P.
Stepped in here for the first time the other day in search of a quick game of pool. Meanwhile the Giants were playing in the NLCS... so it didn't hurt to check-in on the game progress. A real sports bar should have larger TV's and possibly more of them in my opinion. After seeing other sports bars that have stacks or walls lined with large LCD's this place seems like a mediocre place to watch a game.
I think it is really setup firstly as a restaurant and bar. I suppose I should try some food here sometime, but judging from the previous reviews I don't know if I'd want to. They have pool tables that cost $1 to setup for a game, pretty cool because you won't find any other real pool hall in the area. -
Review from Ellie F.
Pros:
- opens at 9AM for college football Saturdays (I imagine Sundays too)
- $5.50 mimosas, but you get the whole little bottle of champagne
- servers don't hassle you too much if you only order a few things and sit for the game
- two games at a time will usually have sound, one on one side of the place and one on the other
- staff is great about getting TVs on multiple games you want to see, where you can see em
- I've always been able to get a table
- Big Ten Network
Cons:
- I can't help it, the color combo makes me think of an 80's hotel lobby
- Entrees are priced on the high end of OK, but appetizers are really pricy (to me, granted I'm from the midwest) -
Review from Kailey O.
the parking lot is a nightmare. there's like 5 spots out front, and it takes at least a 4 point turn to get in one.
the place itself is pretty big! there are TVs everywhere. tonight i watched the giants beat the mets in the 10th inning, f yeah!
my food was terrible. i liked the deal of soup and half sandwich, but it was too hot for a soup so i subbed with a salad. great variety of dressings! the tuna sandwich was awful. it was gross cafeteria style tuna with a wimpy piece of lettuce and a lonely slice of tomato. at least give it some flavor with an onion!
i wish happy hour didnt end at 5:30. I work in santa cruz, so its impossible to get there on time.
Bonus points for the avocado ranch and chipotle ranch. both very tasty.Listed in: Watch the games!
Review from Mish L.
I happened to drive by this place earlier today as I had to run an errand in the area. I saw Double D's (the sports bar-- get your mind out of the gutter!) and immediately flashbacked to Super Bowl XL-- February 5, 2006, Steelers vs. Seahawks. It's been years, but I had to write a review.
Before I get caught up making jokes about the name of this joint (I'm resisting the urge), let me just say, this ranks up there as one of the funnest Super Bowl gatherings (notice I didn't say game). It wasn't that I cared for either the Steelers or Seahawks-- it was Double D's that made my Super Bowl that year.
I honestly don't recall much of anything after halftime. But from what I do remember, my ratty tatty friends and I got there at opening, staked out a table and drank and drank.... and drank. I think somewhere in the midst of our self-proclaimed liquid diet binge, we had food (which was good), but alcohol was the order of the day.
Our seats were prime as we sat in front of one of the huge TV's. Yes! Our waitress was a total gem, unfailingly patient and sweet, kept our drinks coming, kept us laughing and put up with our drunken antics. The entire crowd was a pleasure to be around-- what a great vibe! Melting pot of Steelers/Seahawks fans, football fans in general, people gathered to kick back, chat & watch the biggest game of the year, even a family or two.
I laughed hard, chatted up w/ friends and strangers alike and had the time of my life. As I have nary a recollection post halftime, my friends reported I even gave a Steelers fan a hug at the end of the game (which if you know me, I would normally never do as I hate the Steelers). I must've been in a really good mood!
I'm not sure why I haven't been back... It's been years, but I think it's time I stopped by again.Listed in: Kick back and Relax!, Sports Junkie Fix
A really fun place to meet friends, catch a sports game, etc. Definitely much more personal than say BJ's or The Yard House. A large variety of beers, plenty of televisions, and it's right on the corner so you can't miss it. There is plenty parking as well. I will definitely be catching a Red Sox game or two there.
Because it would be too easy to drone on and on with boobie jokes, ima just get right to the review.
This place was a resounding meh... and its unfortunate because it could have been really good. Its like going on a date with a hot girl or guy, and then they open their mouths, and they are total dumbasses. Its like, ugh, you had so much potential....but in the end, you totally disappoint.
I came here with my boyfriend after a walk in LG, because nothing screams "post workout meal" like an array of fried foods from a sports bar.
We walk in on a Tuesday...its pretty dead so we got seated rather quickly. Little did I know that getting a table was going to be the best portion of the night. Our server was this barely legal to drive blond thing. She comes and takes our drink order...then she pulled a Houdini on us because we didnt see her for a while... well we saw her, she just never came back to our table.
i order this burger that had grilled onions on it.... i asked for fresh onions in case it turned out that i wasn't going to be a fan of the grilled ones, and she replies with "on the side right?" and i said "si.."
as we were waiting, i asked her if she could turn the channels on one of their many tv's to the hockey game that was on, and she said sure....
low and behold, it never got changed... like i couldnt figure out if she was just spoiled and lazy or if like she didnt like me and was doing it on purpose.....
some 35 minutes later (after the table next to us who got seated after go their food) ms thang comes to our table and goes "its going to be another 5 min" uhmmmm how hard is it to grill up two hamburgers?
We finally get our food, and of course, i have no onions at all.
I've had better experiences at jack in the box in the middle of the night. -
Had the eight and five year olds with us and showed up early for dinner. They put up LA Heats game for me as the sports crowd usually shows up later. The kids had fun on the games. Food was good and substantial. Cage fighting was on a screen behind us and at our request for the kids they changed it immediately. They kids always want to go back and it is enjoyable for me as a sports nut.
Double D's is one of my two go to sports bars in the area. The food is good, and the drinks are normally priced. I haven't really had a meal there, but the apps are good. I suggest the wings, but I'm going to say that about any place that manages to squeeze out a decent basket of wings. If you are having breakfast and catching an early game then you should really go with the breakfast BLT. Sounds kinda gross but I promise you its the way to go!
On to the sports. There are TV's everywhere! They are numbered and the host can tell you where your game is playing, and they have always managed to throw on the game I was looking for if it wasn't playing already. You can even go wait for a table in the bar while they wait for one to open up in the section where your game is playing. The service hasn't always been the best, and the bar food and drink prices are normal, so four stars it is. Nothing totally out of the world, but nothing bad either and they are consistent.
