Dorneypark is a quaint theme park and waterpark. Run by the CedarFair group, it's a much more friendly and customer-oriented park than the Six Flags group.

They're celebrating their 125th anniversary this year and there was nice theming to reflect this through the park.

The park actually opened early and some of the rides were even running before the opening time! Take a note, Six Flags, where their rides usually don't start running even after the front gates have opened.

There are a few big rides for me - Steel Force, a 200 foot steel coaster is probably my favourite with some good airtime. Hydra, a floorless coaster with a jojo loop (barrel roll before the lift hill) is more intense.as is Talon, an inverted coaster.

There is a good selection of family friendly rides as well.

It was too cold and rainy on this visit to go to the waterpark but the rides there looked fun.

A good day out.

We went to Dorney Park last weekend.  It was your typical amusement park/waterpark combo.  It has expensive, unhealthy and very not veggie friendly food, cheaply made yet pricey  trinkets, large people in tiny clothing, etc.  It is owned by the same company as Cedar Point, in Ohio.  It is almost as pricey, and very small comparatively.  I would say the biggest thing they have in common is long lines.  Long lines for everything from rides to food and restrooms.  One nice thing was that they have 'twilight' pricing.  This makes admission half price if you go after a certain time.

We didn't venture to the water park.  It didn't look very exciting and was very crowded.  Also, because of poor planning on our part, we didn't have sunblock.  It took about 30 minutes to find some in one of the many gift shops.  Once we did it was overpriced (as to be expected) and it took nearly another 30 minutes to purchase it.  We waiting in line, behind ONE person.  Said person was having prices checked on all kinds of items and trying to haggle as if we were at a garage sale.  When I politely asked the cashier to ring up my single item, he told me I could go to another line.  One of the other lines with around 8 people in them each after we had already been standing there for 20 minutes or so.  Needless to say, the boy was getting restless and bored.  We went to another line and were ignored for a few minutes and finally purchased our sun block.  Most of the staff we encountered were not very friendly and generally seemed annoyed at actually having to do work at work.

We wandered our way through a very crowded and hilly walk way to find some rides.  The boys had to wait at least 20 minutes for every ride they went on.  Having neck trouble, I didn't ride anything so their waits seemed a lot longer to me.

The rides were fun, according to the boys.  The rides were reason we went to Dorney Park, so there was no disappointment there.

All and all, we don't plan on going back unless other parks in the area are worse.

Dorney is where you go when you're a kid, tween or young teen.  It's a good, local, all purpose amusement park.  Wildwater Kingdom is good in the Summertime - but the lines get crazy long.

BRING FOOD & DRINK - park prices are high and once you're there you are trapped.

It's much better maintained and managed (IMO) than 6 Flags.

Dorney Park is an amusement park in Allentown, PA. It isn't nearly as large as Six Flags - not even close, really - but it isn't a bad time either. They're cheaper than Six Flags Great Adventure.

Besides the usual park rides, there are old-fashioned wooden roller coasters as well as more modern metal rides. Their "Steel Force" coaster has been around for awhile, and is a fun experience: on the way up, enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire park before you plummet via a big time drop, yikes!

If you like amusement parks, make a trip to this local favorite.

The park is good, but I still believe you get more for your money at Six Flags. In any event the park has some interesting ways to charge people admission:

Anyone 48" or taller in shoes and under age 62=$35.99
Anyone age 3 or older AND under 48" tall in shoes=$18.99

So if I am a midget standing 46"...in shoes of course (because I guess some people show up bare foot) and I am 63, I only pay $18.99...sweet!

The park has kids rides, water rides, wooden coasters and steel coasters. Something for everyone.

There are two parks: Dorney and Wildwater Kingdom.  Dorney features roller coasters while Wildwater is a water park for the avid swimmer and beach lover.  Dorney features Snoopy and the Peanuts gang!  I LOVE Snoopy.

The water park brings dismal to me, as there is a strong stench of teenagers peeing in the pools and water.  There are insufficient lockers for guests to store their belongings while enjoying the water rides.  There are also insufficient shops where patrons can purchase sun screen.

The best amusement park ever.... I've been coming here since the employee parking was THE parking lot and the park had barely any big rides. It's gotten more crowded and less well run over the years but it's still a great place.

The Thunderhawk (aka the Chickenhawk to my family) is still the best ride- rickety roller coaster built in the 20s; it's small compared to others but the best ride ever. Steel Force is pretty cool too. Once upon a time we could ride these over and over again. Now there are big lines.

Eating in the covered pavilion from a cooler is the best, especially since they gouge you on all the food and drink. Still, nothing beats a frozen lemonade when it's 100 degrees out.

I was at Wildwater Kingdom circa 1992, when Rudy from the Cosby Show (Keisha Knight-Pulliam) was also there. They made everyone get out of the Wave Pool so she could take a dip. Why anyone would ever want to go in the Wave Pool, I do not know. I always stuck to the wedgie slides myself. The Wave Pool seems extremely unsanitary.
Dorney Park is pretty good though. I grew up in the area, and have blacked out on "The Laser" roller coaster more times than I can remember. I also remember when Hercules was the big man on campus. I'm sure that was like 15 years ago.
They used to have an awesome year-round haunted house at DP, and they should bring that back. I remember it scared the crap out of me and I want other people to enjoy that experience.

This amusement park is the best in the area.  You get 2 great parks, but as mentioned avoid weekends.

Don't forget to stand on the balcony of the log flume, you'll be in for a surprise.  Food prices are above average, but you'd expect that at an amusement park.

My daughter loves it here and I must admit, so do I.

I hate the crowd at Dorney Park.
Why can't these people learn how to wait in line for a ride?
I just like the fact that there are 2 parks in 1.
Steel Force is fun.

Hands down the best summer theme park in the area. One fee gets you entrance into both Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, so you can ride the roller-coasters all morning, then enjoy the waterslides all afternoon. For me the water attractions make DP & WWK a better summer park than Six Flags. Because summer is hot. At theme parks, you wait in long lines and get burnt. It sucks. You need something to cool you off at the end---to make it all worth it. And the WWK waterslides are the best I've ridden.

Dorneypark has a good selection of roller coasters, and a really nice water park. There's also Camp Snoopy for smaller children. My only gripe is that they ship inner city camps in by the droves.

I suppose Dorney Park really is the place to be when you're in school and not yet old enough to drive.  Season passes all around!  It's also the place to be if you want to score some weed, get beat up by a gang (maybe a red one or a blue one), have old guys grab your ass in the wave pool, watch a lifeguard jump in for a rescue every two minutes, get shoved in a trash can, steal a bunch of cheap plastic souvenirs, or eat some delicious soft vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

It's a helluva lot better than Six Flags. I actually could go on every roller coaster in ONE day rather than spending ONE day on line for one. Plus, there was still time to hit Wildwater Kingdom. It was definitely worth the one time to go.

What a great place.  2 parks for the price of one.  Wonderful rollercoasters.  Avoid on weekends and if you see more than 20 buses-New Yorkers are in town!
