Review Highlights
It's a local diner, serving large portions for a decent price. Large menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Service was friendly and fast. And it's open 24/7. I had the brunch with a Smoked Salmon Benedict. The hollandaise is homemade, but fairly standard.
It's not something to go out of the way for, but if you're hungry, you don't want to cook anything, and you're in the neighborhood, it hits the spot.
Mmm I love the Chef's Salad here.
Dorian's is my favorite diner- Very nice staff- a TON of food at very, very cheap prices.
Standard diner food- Great prices, huge selection, large amount of food.
Never had a bad experience here.
weird...so many people love this diner and I am not picky, I was just super grossed out today. Felt like my feet were swimming in a pile of garbage from all the crap under the table-including a drinking glass, several french fries and an inch of slippery grease. Felt like I was going to be permanently stuck to the table from all of the syrup (I hope) all over everything. Waitress disappeared for a while and forgot to bring part of meal. Raisins on waffle...felt like a creepy aunt threw it together because that was what was in the pantry. Whatever... I felt compelled to complain.
I've been to Dorian 5-6 times and have never been disappointed, but have also never really been wowed. It's inexpensive, the service is so-so. I feel like almost every time I go there it takes my server at least 10-15 minutes to pick up the bill with my card and bring it back for me to sign, which is kind of annoying. My most enjoyable times at Dorian are going with the paper and just drinking copious amounts of coffee. Its generally pretty empty so you never have to wait for a seat or anything.
This place seemed nice. They had a big menu with plenty of options. Look to spend around $10+ a person. I was able to get a veggie burger, which they make from scratch. So that is cool. It was deep fried, though, which made it delicious, but also made me feel like crap after lol.
ME: Well, now that church is over, let's get something to eat. Where do you want to go?
MY FIANCE: I don't know...
ME: Do you want to try something new? We've never been to Cafe Henri, or that French joint across the street, or the Irish bar.
MY FIANCE: I'm kind of in the mood for a tuna melt or something. Or maybe I want pancakes.
ME: Yeah, me too. Let's just go to Dorian again.
MY FIANCE:...Yeah...
This is pretty much a diner in Long Island City. They have good fries and a selection of everything.
I've tried omelettes and reuben sandwich here. Overall, I say it's a good, easy place to get some diner staples like eggs benedict etc if you're in the neighborhood. But it's definitely not some place you should go out of your way to try.
Standard diner fare. They give you a lot of food, but for $12 You can find a better weekend brunch. For sure.
I couldn't remember the name of this place when I actually first came here about 6 months ago. But then we passed by it again a few days ago, I wrote down the name. Yes...I am officially addicted to writing reviews for Yelp. We stopped in here before the NYC Marathon began, and it was nice to get out of the cold. This was packed with people, and also some cops. What I do rememeber is that they had decent breakfast, and it was a good spot to hang out before the marathon. This is a good solid diner!
For full disclosure, my stop here was around 12:30, maybe 1 am and they were clearly ready to close up shop for the night. That said, diners like this are supposed to be ideal for a sloppy late night club sandwich or a creatively timed breakfast. The sandwich I had was average and the fries were pretty good but the server was pissed that we were there and he didn't hide it. Something resembling a contact lens was in my cup of water, and in each of our cups of water. That was pretty unfortunate, but more just puzzling. The next morning I went to that Henri place across the street, and that was really good. No jacket required.
Good waffles, delicious turkey bacon!
(the turkey sausage was...eh).
Home fries are not cooked all the way, chili burger is nothing special.
Its a regular ol' diner.
I've gone to Dorians a bunch and I haven't had a bad meal there!
And you get so much of it
if your looking for a meal that can be lunch the next day too this is the place to be.
I love their eggplant & they make killer pasta too!
You never wait more then 15 mins and the watistaff is very friendly
xo
Worst diner ever. I only stopped by because it was right in front of the train station.
The menu read "Top Serloin Beef Au Jus." Doesn't that sound like a nice juicy slab of steak? Well, I got a plate of roast beef, and it was not even luke warm, more like room temperature mild. Cold roast beef. Mmm. The vegetables were the steamed tasteless, fresh out of the frozen bag kind. The chicken and rice soup was the only decent part of my meal. They ran out of vanilla ice cream for the soda float. The prosciutto sandwich my friend ordered was tasteless. At least her spring mix salad was fresh. My baked potato was dry.
Mind you, I was famished when I entered the diner, and when people are hungry, even feet can taste good. With this meal, I could barely finish it.
Maybe next time I should just get something simple like eggs and toast they can't mess up.
Just finished eating pancakes and eggs from Dorian's. I got it delivered; fairly bold thing to do with a breakfast meal. I had never had breakfast delivered before so I was very worried. Especially with Loretta P. saying the burger her bf ordered for delivery "Shows up small, crisp, and cold, and cemented off-center to its bun by cheese..."
The delivery showed up promptly (15 mins). The pancakes were slightly burned but the meal was delicious. (I love breakfast food so it's hard to disappoint me when eggs, pancakes and bacon are involved).
Pros:
Fast delivery
Cheap (less than $10)
Breakfast delivered!!
Online menu
Cons:
Pancakes were slightly burned
Will make me lazier now that I found a place that delivers bfast
My bf and I eat here, or order in from here, two or three times a week. Their burgers are huge and good, their fancy salads are much better than I thought they'd be, and their their french fries are tasty and crisp. We also like their pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Nothing fancy, just good diner food. Their staff is sweet and generally pretty attentive.
The milkshakes seem to vary based who's on duty -- Therese makes the best ones. Their french toast is also variable.
Don't order a soft boiled egg. They'll just put it on a plate, which, as you know if you've ever eaten soft boiled eggs, isn't how you serve it. You need a little egg cup (http://en.wikipedia.or...) so you can scoop out the soft innards. Otherwise it's kinda icky and weird.
Also, be careful about ordering the hot chocolate. They use a giant cup, which would be fine if they also used a giant amount of cocoa mix. They don't. They use a normal, small packet designed for 6 oz cup, and pour in 12 oz. of hot water. Also, they don't quite stir it up enough. Sigh. Come on, Dorian. We love you! You can do better!
edit: Yesterday, as I passed Dorian, I heard three 12 year old girls discuss it. One of them pointed it out as a place they could go, and the next one reacted in horror -- "that place looks like NERDY place!" And so they decided not to go. So, you heard it here, folks. 12 year old girls think Dorian is a "nerdy place."
I work around the corner (stalk me! jk please don't)... so I come here 3-5 times a week... I am a creature of habit so I usually just get a grilled chicken wrap (sans the fries; which are excellent btw but due to my snail's pace metabolism I don't eat that kinda stuff) which is delicious.
The wait staff is really friendly...know me by name...and service is quick.
I have tried other dishes from the menu -- everything pretty good. Remember--it is a diner (and my rating is based on other diners), but a little better than most.
Meat loaf was great. Burger was good too. Not really fancy, as others saying here, it's a diner after all, but I like here better than Court Square Diner.
The food here was pretty standard diner fare, and the service was subpar... but the fact that the food network was on TV, and there were classic film one sheets hanging above each booth adds to my rating.
Also, even though the waitress (who I believe was Russian) didn't understand what an ice cream sundae was... the ones that we got were fantastic.
All in all, not a bad place to sit and relax and grab a bite to eat.
I value a place that will stack up at least three beverages in front of me at brunch. Pair your beverages with their tasty waffles and you won't be disappointed. Especially if you think you might just want some fruit and yogurt, but kind of want a waffle...they will do both at the same time with pleasing results.
I judge a Greek diner by their chicken souvlaki. And Dorian's definitely gets an excellent mark. Other selections are very good as well. It's a better than average diner, with a much faster and nicer service.
Huge portions. Dolled up diner. Lots of staff. Thumbs up!
Dorian seemingly resembles any other diner in New York. However, it's when you start eating you notice that the quality surpasses any traditional diner experience by far. Dorian creates an outstanding dining experience- minus the trendy atmosphere or attitude that accompanies most surrounding eateries. Its humble decor includes nothing more than a checkered floor, tin ceiling and traditional style seating booths. The selections are vast but not complicated. The food is simple but, in most cases, extremely well prepared. Each visit contains an elegant touch that sets Dorian apart from the rest. Brunch is served with a mimosa, dinner is served with gourmet olive and onion rolls, and every meal is served with a friendly greeting from start to finish. Breakfast never falls short of a tasty entree at a reasonable price, offering standards like Greek omelets or more original choices like frittatas. The gigantic Mediterranean platter is filled with humus, vegetables, babaganoush, tahini sauce, tabbouleh salad, and falafel. The special du jour- sea scallops sauteed in garlic butter won't melt in your mouth, but it was all right. This is one restaurant where quality and quantity meet at a cut above average.
I think this diner is sub-par. The food is bland and not the most fresh. Waiters are somewhat rude as well (waited around, watching how much we were going to tip). Ordered a chicken parm, and it had really no taste (not sure how one could mess up chicken parm). Gave it another try the following week. Ordered breakfast, since it would be hard to mess that up, but it wasn't that great. The sausage was thin and tiny, like a shriveled-up worm, and the toast was not crispy. Kind of dissappointed...
