Just found out Donnie Mac's closed their doors never to open again!! Does anyone know why? I loved this place!

I have been to Donnie Mac's three times now. It's just a fun place to eat and a great place to bring people who are visiting. The first time I went we came for breakfast. They don't have a huge breakfast menu but we were happy with everything we got. The only disappointment was the bloody mary wasn't great. We later came for lunch and drinks. You have to get a 40 of PBR. The food was good but the service was outstanding. I'll definitely be back.

RUDE FIRST IMPRESSION WE ALMOST DIDN'T GO...
So we called and asked if they would reserve the car for us because its for a birthday, and we would be heading down there soon the girl rudely said "WE DONT RESERVE THE CAR" so we kindly said that we called the other day and they said they would reserve it for us if we called a bit before we came down... then she reluctantly said "I'll see what I can do!"
.... we almost went somewhere else because of how un accommodating they were being, we even said it was for a birthday so first impressions for them were not good!
Restaurants should be accommodating to their customers or they will go some place else that makes them feel welcomed and appreciated.
I would give this a 3.5 star!
Tasted my husbands burger it was nice and juicy.
I ordered the quesadilla... wasnt bad :)
Prices are pretty good.
Environment very cool unique and trendy.
The service was good, sweet waitress girls who both wished a happy birthday and were nice, food came out fast, never refilled my water by the end it was luke warm without ice... but they did refill other peoples sodas.
We went for a birthday and they gave free custard with a cute candle and were very sweet and wished happy birthday.

So I'm sure that this place is much more happening on a Friday or Saturday, but going on a Tuesday and being able to really check out all the tables and decor without having other people sitting in/around them was the best part!
Besides the food, of course. I had the southern fried chicken sandwich, which I would recommend to anyone who's ever had fried chicken. Or anyone who's ever even just had chicken. This is what fried chicken should be. Juicy, crispy, covered in coleslaw, and with a side of sweet potato fries. The "dirty" sauce for the sweet potato fries made them taste like a sweet potato pie, really rich stuff. In fact, if this place were open on Thanksgiving, I would substitute that fried chicken for turkey and those fries for mashed potatoes. Trailer park Thanksgiving must happen this year.
tips:
-There's alot of beers on tap and alot that you can't see. So don't hesitate to ask your waiter about beer, they have more than just PBR and Bud Light.
- I heard that anyone can have a second helping of fries free if they finish the ones that come with the meal. I congratulate you if you have the audacity to attempt two rounds of fries in addition to whichever artery-clogging main dish you choose!
-Read the whole menu! The descriptions are so funny! Someone put alot of hard work and creative juices into detailing the life and times of each dish, and they're worth a read :) -

Great execution on a unique concept. Fun atmosphere.
Great food for the price range. I don't think they have a single item on their menu that is frozen/prepared off-site. Including their onion rings and even their corn dogs. Most typically standard items are prepared with a unique twist. Food gets 4 stars.
I wish I could give them 4 stars overall, but after 4 visits, like most other reviewers gripe--the service is frequently sub-par (inattentive and slow). Service gets 2.5 stars. -

Our group stopped by here since we heard about it from Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
The over all look of the restuarant is pretty interesting. They keep with the trailer theme very nicely. The service was good as well and seemed really friendly. The food over all is ok. I had the Trucker Mac & Cheese which was cheesy enough, but felt the texture was not as great since the different cheeses were separating.
Overall was an ok experience however we might skip this place the next time we're in the area. -

Trailer culture got hot when trucker hats and reality TV entered took over. Donnie Mac is a sanitized version of low brow cuisine for the middle class. If you want the real thing around here head to Merritt's Country Cafe.
Donnie did a nice job creating a theme park for trailer haven tourists. The experiencial entertainment factor is the main attraction here. The food and drink are OK, but don't come expecting you momma's cookin'.
I had to opt for my yardstick of American food - ye olde Reuben. For some reason the Reuben is on the Mesquite Grilled part of the menu. I'm pretty sure this specimen was grilled on a flat griddle. They say marble rye on the menu, but that's not what I got. Huge deduction for that ingredient substitution. A good blend of kraut and mustard. I like my Reubens tangy with a little spice. Other than that, not much going on here.
The finger steaks are as good as any around. And you can actually get a salad that has real greens to cut through the greasy guilt you'll feel after a few fried items. -

I've been to Donnie Mac's a few times in the past year and I have been nothing but happy each time! Most recently I ran over with a friend on my lunch hour. We sat outside (DM's has some of the BEST outdoor seating downtown IMHO) and had a blast! I've had sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs at DM's.. this past time I had their hand dipped corn dogs.. and OMG they are AWESOME. I'm going after work in a couple of weeks, when I can enjoy a drink- three of us plan on tackling the Thunder Plate. BRING. IT. ON.

This place is great! We were visiting Boise from California. We loved all of the trailer park decorations! My burger and sweet potato fries were so good with my PBR! Fun, causal place with good food!

Went for dinner last week after not having been for ~4 years or so...now I know why it's been that long.
Service was terrible...sat for 15 minutes before anyone came over to take a drink order...at that point we just ordered everything. Food came before we had drinks...just not good.
The food was okay, but lots of fried food...I know that's their thing so I can accept that, but there's really nothing that's all that memorable about the food.
Would probably go back again in 4 years... -

In true Triple D fashion, I enjoyed this place. The Double Wide Burger with onion rings was perfect. It was a hot 97° and the Miller Lite and "misters" kept me cool. The service was excellent by the Cool-Hip-Tattoo'd staff....

The food is pretty consistently good if you stick to the items they're known for (burgers, fries). I was actually pleasantly surprised by their frozen custard dessert too! All this in a fun environment, makes for a solid experience.

Great service, quirky-fun decor, but the food was really lacking.
As soon as I saw sweet potato fries on the menu, I figured this place would score big with me, but I could only eat two fries. They were that bad. And the secret 'trashy' sauce can remain a secret, as far as I am concerned.
The pulled pork sandwich was decent except for the chunks of mustard (yes, chunks) globbed onto the bun. Weird.
I wanted to like it, really I did ... -

Donnie Mac's does a theme restaurant right. I couldn't explain the decor inside and do it justice, but it's a lot of fun and the combination of cute junky couches and a super friendly staff made us feel really comfortable.
We ordered the Mac N' Cheese (you have the option of adding hot dogs, bacon, or chili to it) and the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. They keep true to the spirit of comfort food, not trying to mix it up too much, but using quality ingredients that are far above the government cheese you might remember. Extra points for only carrying kosher hot dogs. -

Donnie Mac's is on the right track with their trailer park cuisine but I think it needs a few downgrades. The decor was good to start but they were missing bug zappers, fly paper, sexy furry slippers, plastic cups, tater tots, fish sticks, colman coolers to rest your beer on and I could go on.
But the food gave me a laugh and took me down memory lane. To have the mac and cheese oh so cheesy (they forgot Velveeta) and for the waiter to offer me hot dogs cut up in it was enough to make me smile and warm my heart. The sweet potato fries were nothing to write home about but then again this is trailer park cuisine.
I love the fact that they offer 40oz cans of beer as well as "chick beer".
They have Ding Dongs and marshmallow cream to name of few of the sunday toppings.
I would for sure take friends to this novel place to enjoy a bit of some "home cooking" and the laid back atmosphere. -

I love Donnie Mac's. I relocated to New Jersey two years ago and was in town for a job interview and this is one of the places I had to eat. I love the decor, and their burgers are fantastic. Only once did I ever have a bad server, but she was a noob, so some allowance needs to be made. Kayla was our server this time and she was great. I hope I get to relocate home and this is one please I will always come back to!

I eat here fairly often and have always enjoyed the food and the experience. The burgers are very tasty with a hint of smoky flavor from the mesquite grill. You can customize your burger to your liking with a variety of cheeses and delicious, fresh toppings. The Mac n Cheese is amazing, creamy and comforting as it should be. Adding some chilli to thed Mac n Cheese is especially tasty. The southern Fried Chicken Sandwich is crispy and juicy and served with a fresh, corn sweetened slaw that makes for an amazing sandwich. I have never experienced any of the service issues that other reviewers commented on. For me, the staff has always been friendly, personable and attentive. The patio is really cool and there is always room in the back if you bring a group.

Stopped here on a recent vacation in Idaho. Food is average-plus and the beer selection is OK, but the atmosphere was really fun and makes this place worth a try. I had the fried chicken sandwich and the mac and cheese. Sandwich turned out to be toooooo big but the mac and cheese was good. Other member of the group had a burger with fries - said both were fine. I know there are lots of places to eat in Boise and certainly Donnie Mac's doesn't offer the finest of cuisine but it's a fun place to go!

It was a beautiful fall day. My friend Bri and I had just finished a nice bike ride along the greenbelt and thought Donnie Mac's was in order....as did our other friends who met us later. There was one empty table outside....and it happened to be the only table outside, oddly enough for such a fine day. We were pleased nevertheless.
After several minutes at our table and a walk inside to ask for service, we were finally provided a couple of menus but not asked if we wanted any beverages. Several minutes later we were finally asked what we would like- food and drink wise. The food menu has a large variety of items, ranging from salads, grilled sandwiches, and fried foods, where anyone will find what s/he desires. They even have a great kids menu, which I find provides just the right amount of food even for an adult. And the food is great! I highly recommend the sweet potato fries!
You can't really go wrong with PBR; it was served up cold and for a $1 one can't complain. It was a perfect thirst quencher to the afternoon ride. Overall, the food is really good and the ambiance fun but their happy hour is a bit lacking with only a PBR special. The service was rather scarce on this visit but once we got service it was actually really good and from previous visits, I have never found it to be an issue. If you are in the mood for something funky and a cold PBR, give this place a try! -

It's a funny name, but it fits me perfectly. It's good food, fun atmosphere, and great service. Try the clam chowder, but only if you're ok with a twist on an American classic (it's a little spicy).

Where a family of 4 can eat dinner for less than $50 including dessert! We tried the made from scratch corn dog, mac and cheese, mesquite grilled burger and buttermilk marinated chicken with hand cut potato and sweet potato fries. Small portions available so you can save room for a custard sundae. Decent beer selection. Very small wine selection served in a coffee cup :)

On my cross country trip from Colorado to Washington I researched places I could visit that had been seen on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and I came across this gem. When I first drove by on my way to the hotel all I could see were the hoards of people standing outside enjoying what I assume was happy hour. After I checked into my hotel and walked back the crowd had died down and I was able to be seated without any wait whatsoever. I ordered the special of the day which was a guac bacon burger and your choice of side. I had to get the famous mac and cheese and boy was I glad I did. The fresh baked bun was perfectly flaky on the outside and had just the right amount of softness on the inside. The lettuce had that great crunch sound. The bacon was cooked to perfection. And the guac left me wanting more. But the best thing, by far, was the mac n cheese. I could eat this everyday, three times a day.

This place isn't as bad as the rating suggests. It's very cutely decorated, lots to look at. I wasn't sure what to expect, really. Was there going to be pictures of toothless hillbillies all over the place? Could I pay with food stamps? Instead, it's more of a hipster version, celebrating the less-sophisticated versions of American culture and cuisine.
The food isn't amazing. It's a basic burger and fries. Sadly, I don't think the fries are even fresh cut, which is a damn shame in Idaho. You can't have a reputation for world famous potatoes and then go around serving things from your freezer. The mini corndogs appeared home made and were average. The burger was better than I expected, the meat was nicely seasoned. My friends salad and vegan chili were probably the best part of our lunch. Wouldn't have guessed the chili lacked delicious animal parts.
I'd avoid their "special" fry sauce at all costs. It's not just mayo and ketchup, but there's something else in there, some kind of fruit perhaps, that makes the entire thing taste rancid. If you want fry sauce, just ask for mayo and do it yourself.
The service was a bit slow, but friendly. The prices are low (from what I'm used to) and it's just a cute little place. I'm sure in the summer it'd be a cool place to get a shake and burger, since half the place has garage doors that can be pulled up. I'd go back, but I'd keep in mind that most hip spots are usually good at focusing on ambiance or on the food, but rarely both, and this one is definitely a member of the ambiance gang. Cool space, average food. -

Got slow service, then after our group left, a waitress came outside to our group and told us that we didn't tip enough, even tho 18% gratuity was added. Never coming back again.

Seriously people! Get a wait staff worth a sh*%! lunch is not impossible, get a grip owner and reign it in. Food: decent, atmosphere: kitchy, Service: horrible. It's been over a year since I've been in and today is the reason why. Dribk order took three trips... Really?... Water with lemon and a kids sprite? Not to mention it took about 15 minutes to get the drinks. Cold mac and cheese that was reheated in the microwave. Which means the sauce breaks. Waitress asking, 'Are you happy now?'. No, actually... We're not. Ugh. Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him? Ps: 12 years in the restrauant biz here...

We went to this place while visiting family in Boise. It was featured in Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The food was good, but the ambience is entertaining. The Mac and Cheese was just o.k., but our sandwiches were tops. Try the sweet potato fries. They were closed really early on Sunday, so check their schedule before going.

OK. A theme restaurant. We ate in the car in the restaurant. It's a chuckle and a burger. Service was good. Food was good. Burger and fries passable. It's just a fun place that doesn't take itself too seriously. $1.00 PBR's. So for $4.00 the place starts to transform. $6.00 and it's miss the plane and dance on the hood of the car.

Fun and tastefully-tacky themed restaurant that uses good quality ingredients in an entertaining menu. They do serve beer and the mac-n-cheese with chili makes for a good appetizer to share (also comes with sweet potato fries). This place makes for nice diversion from the usual sit-down places.

Boise, ID
Wow...this place is incredible! The decor alone is worth the visit--old tires planted with palms, a dining counter made of tailgates, shower curtains strung by every booth, vibrant (some might say tacky) colors throughout, and an old rusty car gutted, suspended and made into a dining booth to boot. Seriously. They trailer trashed this place up (all sparkling clean, of course) to go with their signature trailer park comfort cuisine. And, jumpin' jackrabbits (!!) do they have some stick-to-your-ribserific comfort food! I ordered the macaroni and cheese which came with sweet potato fries and their signature trashy sauce. I can honestly say the macaroni and cheese was the best macaroni and cheese I have ever been served in a restaurant--it was rich and tasted beautifully homemade with what tasted like a flavorful sharp cheddar. The sweet potato fries were equally as marvelous and the trashy sauce was divine. My dining companion ordered a chicken teriyaki burger which came with fries and an entire bottle of fry sauce (we do love the sauce). Of his meal, he said (and I quote): "Holy crap...this is dripping with deliciousness." We ordered their version of a shake (more like a blizzard--vanilla shake mixed with various types of candy--we ordered the vanilla with peanut butter cups) to share. I don't typically care for those and so I did not at all have high hopes, however, it was good. It was not the traditional shake that I would have liked to have seen but it did have an ample amount of peanut butter cups throughout. One thing to consider: The service was a skosh slow (but friendly!), which may be a factor if one is going for a lunch hour. Other than that? A great find in a great location (smack in the middle of the Linen District)!

The service is bad. Everything else more than makes up for it, including great burgers and $1 PBR's, although I think only during happy hour on those. Outdoor seating in the summer, and "eclectic" seating inside. Great (trashy) atmosphere.

Boise, ID
After craving a decent burger for weeks, we decided to give Donnie Mac's a try. Our experience here was fantastic. Our service was quick and our server attentive. The food was as good as comfort food gets, (and if you love comfort food, you'll die for this). The facility itself was bizarre...in a good way. We were impressed at the clever, fresh little twists on this type of fare: fresh, butter glazed bakery rolls for sandwich buns, fresh green lettuce for the burger and thick, perfectly cooked smoked bacon - great touches that added quality to the meal without compromising the "trailer park," down-home focus of the food. Frankly, I am surprised at some of the bad reviews here considering our experience last Friday was so positive. The only bad thing about our meal was the extra gym time it will take to work it off! Perhaps they've made some changes since these reviews were written (?). As far as we are concerned, we can't wait to go back.
