I love Doner!

I've been here over 10 times and keep coming back for more.  Their staff is just the nicest.  The woman who looks as though she owns the place always recognizes me when I come in and greets me with such warmth.  She explains to me how the food is made fresh every day with recipes handed down to her from her mother.

I love it!  Their lamb doner is SO good as well as their falafal.  They pack their pitas with the meat or falafal first and then add the salad, which is a nice change.  Don't forget their hot sauce, which is made inhouse and is so good.  I don't know how they make it but I want to drink it!

Their red lentil soup is SO good.  Their chicken kebab is also amazing.

Their food is fresh, their service great and their prices can't be beat for the quality and quantity.  Forget the other turkish places near by and just try this place to see for yourself.

You won't be disappointed!

Place is clean, people are really nice, the food is kind of bland..  I found the hot sauce to be kind of mild and tasteless.. Not that rich fiery and spicy sauce that really wakes you up..  We were dining with a nine year old who doesnt really like spicy food and she was using their hot sauce on her french fries..

Hummus is good though, they give you like 4 tiny little pieces of pita to have with the hummus.. What do you do with a large bowl of hummus and nothing to dip in it?  I took it home and gave myself a hummus mask.. Oddly enough, my worry lines, all gone.

All in all, it's pretty good.. Nothing stellar... As I walked back to the car, full from a mediocre dinner, that damn bahn mi spot I parked my car in front of was totally mocking me.

I think the lamb doner is ridiculous. They use free range and for the lamb use rib meat. It definitely has another dimension of flavor unlike any other schwarma-like meat I've had. The owners are passionate and it's a
nice restaurant with a short, directed menu.

I'm jealous that the kids in Williamsburg get to have this restaurant. I guess they have money and they can sustain it. I'm being selfish that I want this in Astoria, right? I guess. I don't care, I want it now and always.

i ate a quick dinner with a friend here and had the lamb doner.  it was fxcking delicious..i wanted to jump on the entire spit of meat and gnaw on it.  however, i wasn't able to finish the entire pita because it was kinda oily and i was on an empty stomach :(

also, the staff at the restaurant were super friendly, so that was definitely a plus.

I know that it's subjective, but to me, the falafel here is so far superior to anywhere else in Willimasburg. I go here for lunch, I spend $3 for falafel, they bring it my table along with fresh yoghurt and hot sauce. Amazing.
The falafel is freshly fried, crispy and delicious. $3 sit down lunch served by pleasant people? Insane, unbeatable deal.

I ate this food sober
Or well relatively sober
I hate reviewing places that I go to drunk because the food couldve been sub-par and I still wouldve loved it
I got the Lamb Doner and Judi got the Chicken Doner
Both were super flavourful and fresh
Like so so so fresh and light that I didn't feel disgustingly full afterwards, I just felt full :-)
It was really cheap for two meals 11.00
The place was spotless and the owners were very friendly and welcoming
Again ........why is this place not near me?

Ehhh it was ok, but I didn't really enjoy it.  I got my girlfriend a lamb pita, and I had a chicken platter for takeout.  The chicken was moist, but it was unspiced and wasn't that flavorful or plentiful either.  The spicy and white sauces were pretty good though.  Considering the portions, the prices were a little high as well.  The owner seemed to almost be rushing me out for some reason, even though there wasn't a line or anything.  I've had much better.

Döner is cheap and convenient if you want a change of pace from Oasis.  They do get substantial props for having chicken on a rotating spit in addition to lamb--I've never been big on lamb shavings, but Döner chicken was juicy and flavorful.  Service was friendly and very much felt as though the staff was trying to make a good first impression.  The prices were reasonable--we had both a lamb and a chicken pita and shared a wild cherry drink for $12.  The best part is that our food was in our hands lickety-split.  I tend to be a mild slow foodist and I like to think about where my ingredients have been in most cases, but I was in a hurry last night and sometimes it's good to get something that's fast and prepared when you order it.

I feel like there's potential in this place, but the flavors didn't really blend well--the vegetables and meat and sauce and pita all felt somewhat thrown together rather than melding into something greater than the sum of its parts.  I'll be back, for sure.  I want to see what Döner will grow into and there's a range of menu items I have yet to try.  But I don't see myself running back at the earliest possible convenience.

I'll get straight to the obvious comparisons to Oasis.

Pros:
The prices are on par with Oasis (really cheap and filling)
All meat is free range

Cons:
I tried the chicken doner and my girlfriend had the falafel.  We agree with Bria, the flavors did not blend as well.

I will definitely return to check out the rest of the menu but I don't see this as a major competitor to Oasis for now.
