This place is awesome! I live just a few blocks from there. I was going there as long as I can remember. Maybe 3 years old? Great food what can I say best chicken sandwich I ever ate. Macdonald's is just a couple of blocks from them but come on. Why have that crap if you can come here and have some fresh grilled food? Its pretty cheap on my part. Bad thing is it gets a little chilly in the winter to dine it cause the doors are always flying open. Every one goes to Donald's epically cops. So if your a fugitive you may not want to go there lol. But any one else its all good. You will not be disappointed EVER! Even 18 years latter.

Donald's has had a special place in my heart for close to 24 years (is that possible?). Hands down the best grease pit in chicago. Their hot dogs have pretty fresh toppings, the italian combo is in my opinion the best in the city and their fries are rad. The gyro is good too, they make most of the stuff fresh daily so the sauce is better than 100 needles in my penis. They almost always have some sort of creamed soup, and it's seconds away from my house. The only thing that blows is you can't use a credit card through the drive through, and im pretty sure they have changed it to debit only.

***In my opinion, best gyros on the southish side. George has the best on the north side.

Donald's is far and away my favorite hot dog/hamburger/grease-pit take-out. My first experience was a pity burger one of the guys at work dropped off when I first transferred. It was a huge, messy, oozy, melt-in-your-mouth mess of meat, cheese, mayo, ketchup, onion, and tomato. It was like a Rallyburger when Rally's was still good. It made my day. The first time I went into the actual restaurant, I went a little ape-shit inside as it was everything I imagined it would be. From the ancient chairs and tables and the MOB of men working in unison to the hand-lettered signs and smart-ass counter girls, there is not one thing I would change about Donald's
My top picks:
GYRO PLATTER. Melty meat piled high on a grilled pita, delicious tzatziki sauce, with feta, extra sauce, and a MOUNTAIN of fries. I order an extra pita and save half for another meal. *Skimpy on the onion and tomato, which is okay with me, but if you like a lot, be sure to order extra.
FRIES. thick, salty, not soggy, delicious. slightly seasoned. You can ruin an entire meal on these.
POTATO SOUP. Really any soup, but this is my favorite. Thick and creamy without being too salty. Soup is made from scratch every day and you can taste the difference. This is my comfort food. When I am sick, I will call into work which is about a half mile from here, and then drive from Wicker Park to Pilsen for soup.
BURGERS. Maybe more like a Big Buford instead of a Rallyburger. But better!
MUSHROOMS. Fried anything here, but I love these mushrooms. They are addictive.

Any place that offers a 10 hot dog with fries special, I have to love. But my personal favorite from here is the foot long polish and cheese fries. (This is the Tuesday special-every day of the week they have different specials.) Anything I have ever gotten from here has been fresh and very tasty, especially their cream of broccoli soup in the winter.

A few months after I moved to Chicago I found myself craving a lunchtime steak sub. I polled my coworkers and no one could suggest a good place to get one, but they all told me to try an Italian beef instead. Thus began my weeks-long quest to sample every Italian beef to be found within driving distance of my job.
In addition to quite a bit of weight, I gained a thorough appreciation over the course of those weeks for a good beef. Donald's sells a good beef! They also had, at the time, some of my favorite fries in the city, but I think they may have changed their preparation methods since then. They're definitely selling the fries in smaller portions than they used to.
I've had to adjust my eating habits in the face that unfortunate weight gain; now I usually get a grilled chicken sandwich when I go to Donald's. They ask me whether I'd like my onions grilled or raw, and I say grilled, and they make me up a fine sandwich. I've heard good things about the cream of chicken rice soup, but creamy soups are not my particular cup of tea.
This place gets three stars because 1. they have become stingy with the fries and 2. although it is fantastically tasty, I would feel bad about highly rating food that's so obviously bad for you.

have not been in a while but used to run by this place with my old man a lot, had the craving the other day and drove past but could not get into the right lane quick enough and was pissed off at myself. solid dogs good fries super quick, fast, and cheap. it is what it is, get in, get your dog, hammer it down, and move on with your life. it does the job quite nicely.

You can seriously chow down about 10 hot dogs here. Not only are they absolutely delicious, but they are pretty cheap as well. Whenever I'm in the city, I always take a trip to this restaurant. I usually take-out from here.
they have a kick-ass chicken noodle soup and broccoli soup too. and they DO have some crazy hot dog specials, from 2 to 10 (!)
