5 reviews for Don'key's Mexican Food
This is a tiny little restaurant that isn't as tiny as it looks. It seems to have hundreds of add-on's and side shacks for more seating. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Pasadena by far. I've eaten here since I was a baby.
There is a reason that it's always a packed house here. The food is fresh, good, and cheap. Order a sampler style combo with a beef crispy taco, cheese enchilada, chalupa, etc.
This is what could called a dive restaurant. DonKey rita's will kick your ass. Pun intended. The food is great. No high brow stuff here. I have been going to DonKey's for the last fifteen plus years. We have had food fights in the back room and been physically carried out. All this to say we have used and abused the place and they take us back with open arms. Beware of the crappy parking lot and miniscule restrooms. Have another DonKeyrita and you'll be fine. The history of this place is pretty cool. Owned by a local former hotshot football player. The queso flameado and sabroso are my two faves!
Here's the deal, kid: I've eaten at this place about 50 times and they have a great happy hour featuring $1-$1.50 draft beer (frozen mug) and frozen margarita's. Try the fajitas, tacos al carbon, or beef enchiladas: all are delicious, and will satisfy whatever craving for tex mex you may have.
This place is an institution in the Pasadena/Southeast part of town. Be prepared though, this place is a hole in the wall. If you're not ready for the appearance inside, it will surprise. My only recommendation is that they clean up the inside and the bathrooms(they have been redone, so they're not too bad anymore).
Truly, go to eat, the food is great. The drinks are awesome, especially on those hot summer Pasa-get-down-Dena days!
The Don'Key ritas will kick ur ass!! But the parking lot sucks, watch the huuuge potholes if you got a low car. The whole restaurant is pretty small so the noise level gets pretty high. But it's good for starting a girls' night out if you're in the area.
The food is great, fajiatas, enchiladas, grilled chicken, tortilla soup all good. Never had any complaints bout the food or drinks. ....now if they would just remodel...
yes... a Don'Keyrita brought it all back. Well, what i remember of it anyway. I think some naco\hos were consumed. I can't vouch for much else.
