Don Edwards Regional Park is a great place for exercising, meditating or just getting a little bit of nature mixed into your daily routine. There are a few trails to choose from. If you are looking for a simple walking trail: this is definitely the place for it. There are plenty of beautiful birds, butterflies, geckos, flowers, and plants to look at during your walk, too.

Pro's: There is always an abundance of free parking spaces here, as opposed to Coyote Hills, which charges $5. There is a learning center located here for more info. Although outdated, there are some informational plaques on the trails that give historical information.

Con's: Unfortunately, this regional park is also a great place to see the effects of pollution in the SF Bay. Some of the trails are closed because of maintenance/ clean up. The sound of planes/ cars going by can disrupt your moment with nature.

Always a Nice Experience.

This place is great, although not particularly shaded.  However I find this place to be my jogging ground of choice.  The ups and downs of the hills are moderate enough and the entire loop around the hill is 1 mile.  You can also extend out farther via the 2 bridges.

This is also Bird watchers paradise.  Although Im definitely not a bird watcher, its home to many species of birds.

On Clear days you can see the San Mateo Bridge and even San Francisco and Moffett Field.  During the week it is hardly busy and I love it.  Come on the weekend and its a bit more crowded then I want, but don't let that stop you.  You can also walk to coyote hills from this location, as you can cross the pedestrian path via the toll bridge and it is about a 20 minute walk (or 10 minute jog) to get to Coyote Hills.

Not a bad place at all.

This place is truly nature at its best.

Situated right next to Coyote Hills, you can bike, run, or walk on the trails here while enjoying breathtaking views of the bay and feel the breeze cool you down as the sweat pours down your face--sans the parking fee that Coyote Hills charges.

Or, you can drive past where all the outdoor activities take place and park right below the Dumbarton Bridge and sit in your car hypnotizing yourself as the waves sway by.

With my laptop in hand tethered to my 3g phone I can easily spend hours here wasting the weekend away as I would do on my couch at home--and not feel like so much of a bum in doing so.

As an addendum, this place apparently makes quite the makeout spot too (or, as a bonus, a great place to watch others makeout), as evidenced by the couple parked next to me who shamelessly made sure that the waves weren't the only thing rocking around out there..

I am really glad this place is here. It is within walking distance from my house but if I just want to be there fast the parking is free and the trails are easy.  Sometimes you might see a snake, egret or lizard on your walk.  It is very family friendly and there are many places to sit and rest. Some of the views that come with Don Edwards can be the freeway, the nearby city of Newark, and  the old bridge across the bay.  It can also get very crowded on weekends with all types of folks on bikes, walking dogs or in large groups.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to watch birds and see butterflies flitting about, this is a great place to go. A lot of people ride their bikes out here, and it's definitely good for that since it connects to the path on the other side of Dumbarton, but I just like to walk and go at a snail's pace... you see a lot here! The salt flats are amazing... the amount of flora and fauna out here is wonderful. I love when the water is a rusty red... it's such a bizarre contrast to the white crystals of salt growing along the banks.

There are a lot of hummingbirds near the learning center, too... and clean bathrooms! We've just sat and checked out the view from the learning center... it's as quiet as it gets within the Fremont boundaries. You can see Coyote park from here. (Another place I love!)

There's also a cute little red house where swallows nest, and it sits atop a little footbridge. It's sooo picturesque! You've really got to see it to appreciate it.... a nice oasis in the suburban sprawl that is Fremont.
