Very friendly staff, food is always so damn good!! Try the garlic shrimp or their burritos. Very filling and always delicious -- I always eat so well and have leftovers for tomorrow! I would say this is one of the better (and authentic!) places to visit in Burbank.

THE GOOD: I love the dive-y mexican grill atmosphere.  The shrimp is out of this world!  If I go back I'm ordering shrimp everything.  They grilled it to perfection and lightly seasoned it so it still tasted like it had the mexican food flare. I love the authenticity of the menu items.

THE BAD: The quesadilla was, I hate to say this, too cheesy!  I know it sounds crazy but it was like eating a slab of melted cheese.  Since theyre so small they dont have a wide selection of beers to choose from.

ALL IN ALL:  I'd definitely go back and try more items. perhaps I can give them a higher grade if my next visit is better.  I recommend you at least give this place a try.

This place has some authentic, and delicious Mexican food.

The entire atmosphere of the place is very relaxed and their asada and chicken are really good quality.

My recommendation would be the Carne Asada Quesadilla! I've had it and it's extremely cheesy and good.

They also have beer and some crisp and tasty chips.

Definitely a great place that's a sit down and better than all those chains out there!!

I liked Don Diego, but minus one star for the AC making our food so cold that it was a bit hard to enjoy.

They start you off with chips and salsa - yumm. We ordered 2 plates of Nachos with Carne Asada for a group of 4 - definitely filled all of us and was still delicious, despite the fact that the cheese and beans hardened in 5 minutes. Plus, the serving was pretty big. As an entree, I ordered their Shrimp Taco and Fish Taco, both really goood if you like seafood in your tacos and grilled to perfection with a nice dollop of sour cream.

I would go back here again, but I'd definitely sit in a different spot so that cold air isn't blasting over my food. I really want to try their Menudo.

Just got out. Me and a friend walk in for lunch and there is a big group of people having lunch so they have no room. I do not blame them for this; however, the lady brings me and my friend 2 menus while we are standing and tells us to look over these while we wait for 3 minutes, ok this is still ok. 10 minutes later we are still standing there and she comes to take our order, -____- I simply explain to her that I would like to sit down when I eat and we leave. Not the brightest people working there..... Oh and while leaving I see that there is a booth open at the back -__-

Went here twice already with my coworkers and haven't had a chance to write a review till now.  It's a hole-in-the-wall place with old(er) furniture and ambience, and surprisingly cheap food that doesn't taste that cheap.  So far I've had the burrito and taco, which were decent, but the real surprise is the rice and beans combination, which is very tasty... and did I mention it's cheap?  Like $6 cheap!  I'm sure I will come back for lunch again!

I dunno who this Don Diego fella is, but he sure's got a nice restaurant.

Parking is either street if your lucky, or take a chance with one of the lots around (Trader Joes, CVS, etc)

The menu is pretty extensive, they have pretty much everything from tacos to moles to posole to seafood. I've had the chicken mole, carnitas, posole, chicken soup, and they have all been very satisfying.

Ambiance is "dive-y", service is good usually, prices are great.

My favorite Mexican place in my hood for sure.

I followed up on some reviews on Yelp to try my first fish taco in LA.

Don Diego delivered.  The place is tiny - like maybe total seating for 20, and its off a major road in burbank and doesn't have parking.  All signs point to serious mom-and-pop style.  You don't come here for the decor, or the service, or anything like that.  You come here for cheap fast, 'authentic' mexican food.  The menu has all sorts of stuff I had never seen at other 'mexican' or 'tex-mex' places.  Stuff like seafood platters and oysters, etc.  I played it safe and ordered 2 fish tacos and a chicken taco, with a bowl or guacamole to start.

The guacamole is awesome and clearly made from scratch right when you order.  The tacos came and they were excellent with a squeeze of lime on each.  The chicken taco was just meh.  Not sure if I'll become a regular since its so out of the way, but it was a fun experience.

I ate here last night, 8/16/10.  I was told about this place by my sister-in-law who is on top of some pretty great spots to eat.

I have been on a two year quest for the best asada tacos but last night I opted for a wet burrito.  Sometimes I can get a pretty good idea of things with a burrito from the meat and red sauce.

The burrito was excellent.  The sauce red sauce was quite good but a touch salty.  The salsa for the chips was a red variety that may have also been used in the burrito.  When red sauce is as thin as this sauce and used for chips I think of it more of a hot sauce.  With chips I prefer more of a salsa with some tomatoes, onions, cilantro etc.

I asked for avacado in the burrito and they did this for me along with the red sauce and melted cheese.

The decor of the restaurant was comfortable.  Not fancy but quite nice and informal.  The staff was attentive and very friendly.  No complaints at all.

I will be returning to sample their version of a soft asada taco.

This is an alright little place, I'd eat here again but only if the person I'm with REALLLLY wanted to. On my own not so much, I've had better. Don't get me wrong the food is alright, and the staff is super nice. I just would recommend a list of places before here. Heck El Tap is next door, just go there lol.

Real hole in the wall Mexican food.  If you're in Burbank and you want real Mexican food, head to Don Diego's.  There's definitely fewer gringos that frequent this shack of a restaurant, but never fear, because the food is mucho kickass.

Everything I've ever had on the menu is good, and my Mexican friends from work all love eating there because the food is actual Mexican food, not the normal American Mexican taco-burrito-taquito bonanza.  There's some red soup that one of the girls here at work loves and swears by, but I've never tried it yet.

If you come at lunch, you might be in for a short wait.  Sometimes the place fills up pretty quick as it's not that big.  Stand around and watch Mexican soap operas on the lone tv above the fridge till a booth opens up.

It's also super cheap comparatively to most other big restaurants.  You'll definitely get good food and plenty of it for the price.  The place is a little dingy though, so if you're a crazy neat freak / germaphobe, steer clear.  Nothing fancy here, just good food.  Get your favorite Mexican dish and a Horchata and go to town.

Parking note:  There's all of 2 spaces in the alley devoted to this place, so find street parking on Alameda or park across the street in the Walgreen's / Trader Joe's lot and walk over.

I love this place!!!! Definitely a mom & pop shop with delicious recipes. My boyfriend and I come here often and I always get the Carne Asada plate and have never ever been disappointed. The waitress there is always so sweet and attentive.

The only downside is parking. There isn't really much parking except on the street, but recently I parked at Habit and just crossed the street.

Despite the parking, the food always puts a smile on my face!!! :)

I pass this Mexican place every time I go to Trader Joe's / Home Depot and never actually had the opportunity to dine here until today.

We came in for lunch and I had the chicken enchiladas lunch special, which had 2 generously stuffed enchiladas in red sauce, along with delicious rice, and beans which could've been better, but still pretty good. I think it only falls short of beans made with lard (which aren't very good for my heart nor my waistline!). Oh, my lunch set also came with a drink of your choice.

My friends ordered a carnitas burrito (pork) and a camarones y pescado burito (shrimp & fish). Both burritos were HUGE! The pork one had tasty grilled pork chunks in it, while the shrimp & fish one was BURSTING with shrimp and fish. Boy, are they generous here! Muy bien!

I also loved the salsa and chips served when you sit down. And while service wasn't excessively friendly (not overzealous Cheesecake Factory types who rattle off 'Mahi-Mahi, fish of the day yadda yadda'), our server was attentive, helpful, patient, and well, efficient, in a word.

Kudos to Don Diego for having soul and character. It reminded me very much of the small family run 'restaurantes' in South America where I had cheap & tasty meals.

    Will definitely be coming back!

    Slow service.

    Very affordable.
    Minimal but friendly staff.
    Loud music.
    Completely average food.
Not an experience that can be quantified as either "good" or "bad."

Hey I admit it , I'm really picky about Mexican food. There are very few good Mexican restaurants in the  San Gabriel valley. This is not one of them. One word describes the food here. Bland. That salsa was spicy but flavorless. The chicken tacos were flavorless too. Go to Lupitas in Pasadena for great Mexican food.

they give you chips and two kinds of salsa while you wait for your food and believe you will find yourself munching on theeh chips because it takes a while for you to recieve your order. So dont go if you are in a real hurry...
However when the food does arrive, boy is it GOOD!

They have good chile rellenos and ceviche tostadas!

Best chicken taco bargain in LA. Pretty consistent, 2 tacos, white meat chicken, w/ avocado, chips and tasty salsa for under $5 (not including drink or tip). Filling enough for a 180lbs gringo. Incredible value. And, it's across from a Trader Joe's for multitasking.

Yes, the place is a little lo-fi, but tasty. And you can call ahead for take out.

I was looking for a good taco place in Burbank. After reading the reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. The experience was not good at all. The parking was pretty hard to come by. Unless you want to try the parking at the Trader Joe's across the street, which wasn't easy either.

I ordered a couple of asada tacos. It seemed to taste ok. I liked that there was ample of fresh avocado on them. But the carne asada wasn't fresh. It seemed like leftovers from the day before.

But the yuck factor came when I discovered a long piece of hair in the taco.

I couldn't even try the other taco. I will not be going there again.

Actually, I'm 3 1/2 on this.  I had read about this place and decided to give it a try and hubby & I were both pleasantly surprised.  It is a small little place and when we first walked in the music was uncomfortably loud.  There was that split second thought of wanting to turn right back around and leave as we came through the door but decided to stick it out.  Turns out it was a jukebox and after that song was over it was mostly quiet the rest of the evening.   We both had the beef tacos and they were really, really good.  The beans & rice were good as well and I finished my plate without feeling overly stuffed.  The salsa is good, but the chips were a little hard and stale tasting. The soup they served was macaroni in a chicken broth w/a few vegetables and it was pretty bland.  Service was friendly and the price is right.  Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves here and will be back.

I was in the area and I yelped for a place for lunch and this came up as the closest with good reviews, so I gave it a try. Overall, it was ok, nothing stellar. The salsa and chips were ok, I ordered the steak picado, the meat was a little tough but ok. nothing stellar here. If I am in the area again and this was the only choice around, I would go, but It wouldn't be my choice if there are other places to try.

First thing I liked was that the building is an awesome yellow. The air con worked (huge plus in august) so I was stoked. It's a very small place with really friendly service. The food was ok. I've had better and worse. Your meal comes with a homemade chicken soup that is approximately ten degrees hotter than the sun. Watch out! I still have a little burned spot on my tongue. My husband and I ate for twenty five bucks. For that money,  you could do much worse.

This review is actually for Don Diego #2 which is in Van Nuys on the corner of Saticoy and Woodley.  It's kind of a basic 'taco stand', but it seats a good 40 or so people and they have a wait staff.

I went there last Friday night because it was close to work.  They had Karoke going on that night.  It was all Spanish music, but it was really cool.  The MC, Roberto was very nice and welcoming.

Oh, but the food!!  I am a guacamole fiend and this stuff was fresh and chunky with avocados and spices.  I ordered two tacos (carne asada and  octopus) and a chicken enchilada.  My plate came garnished with little extras and the carne asada  just melted right into my taste buds.  Yum!  The octopus was tender and tasty with just the right spices.  It wasn't too chewy like octopus sometimes tends to be.   The enchilada was good, filling a covered in cheese and red sauce.  I had orchata (rice milk with cinnamon).  It was tasty and not watered down.  My friend liked his dinner as well.

I have been to this place 3 times.  The food has been good at all times, but I noticed that on the weekdays, they don't put so much effort into the garnishes.  I think they pull out the tricks, so to speak on their busy nights.  But that's OK, because the food be a taste explosion!

this place seems to be the closest to authentic mexican food that i can get close to my school.  almost my whole class went here for lunch today.  a few of them went last week and loved it.  i checked out the menu and the prices were pretty reasonable.

first off... ya no parking.  u gotta park on the street or even across the street.  be careful when crossing.  don't get a jay walking ticket...and don't get run over!

the place is pretty small.  there's no way our class can sit together.  we had two separate tables at each end of the restaurant.  lunch time gets pretty packed and they only had one server running the show.  our order took about 30 minutes to come out...and we only have an hour lunch. :(  i had the carnitas burrito - with rice, beans, onions, guacamole, and rice for $6 (with tax and tip)

the carnitas burrito was pretty good but i was disappointed that only half of it had the meat.  and the other half was all rice... :(  boooooo!  i'll come back tho and try something else.  the carne asada looked really yummy!

The first time I went there, I enjoyed the fish tacos and shrimp burrito, but everything else tasted bland or old. The chile relleno and enchilada were not that great. The rice and beans had a foul, old taste to it. How does a Mexican restaurant mess that up? The margarita tasted cheap and disgusting. Service is not that great, just one waitress who was pregnant but I guess she was trying really hard. My boyfriend really liked the fish tacos. We tried going there a second time and during business hours, the door was locked. People were inside eating. There was no sign posted as to what was going on inside and we didn't feel like waiting that long for an explanation because we were so hungry. I will think long and hard as to whether I will return there, but most likely, probably not.

ive been there a couple of times hoping the next time would wow me but i came up blank
granted, its seems to be only me because the food that the people i usually go with turns out pretty good, like 4 stars good
i gave it two, however, because the service IS slow (the waitress looked super occupied taking orders, bills, delivering food, and the regular restaurant tasks that have to be done)
the food i get always turns out pretty unsatisfactory, the last time i ordered the machaca con huevos and the meat was very dry and the beans and rice it came with were nothing special
the parking is a pretty small lot and that tiny stretch of street (luckily i walked)
and the music is always blaring, which would be cool if they had a variety of music that was still Mexican, but its mostly the same stuff
they have a great selection of drinks and menu items and some of the stuff on there is good, but ive come to find that its really a roll of the dice and ive snake eyes enough to say that that was my last time there

When you want some authentic posole go to Don Diego's.

Good chips and salsa, although they need to get you a bigger portion.   The posole is awesome, I go there when I have a hankering.    Nothing better than drinking a corona with some good soup.     Great prices as well.

Again, I am a creature of habit and always order the same thing.   But when places make something well you tend to order it often.

LOVE this place! It's not much to look at inside or outside but the food is delicious.  I have tried their carne asada tacos and burritos, cheese enchilladas, cocido, albondigas, chicken soup and shrimp cocktail....and thumbs up to everything!  Their complimentary chips and salsa are always fresh and the servers don't frown when you ask for a 2nd or even a 3rd bowl of chips and salsa.  The prices are very reasonable.  The only reason I didn't give Don Diego's a perfect rating is because the place is tiny and is not good for groups larger than 4.  Just a tip....park your car in the strip mall (by togo's and starbuck's) at the corner of Alameda and San Fernando.  The hollywood video store closed and there's tons of parking available all the time.  Just cross the street to get to Don Diego's.  Otherwise, street parking is difficult to find.

SLOW service, on a slow Wednesday night. Waited 20 minutes to get chips, salsa and another 20+ minutes for overcooked rice, cold enchiladas (cheese wasn't even melted) and guacamole made with overripe avocados. Bad service, poor food. Only thing I enjoyed was the salsa. I will not be back!! I'm still searching for a really good (authentic, non-chain) Mexican restaurant in Burbank.
