Review from Bill F.
Long Beach, NY
Unreal find! I've been wanting to go here for over a year...it definitely looks like a dive...so it was tough for me to convince my coworkers to go. But not my wife!
We went last night and it was everything I hoped for. Authentic Dominican food! Big portions! And cheap too! We spent $26 including tip and had 2 meals and took home a third (leftovers).
Courtney got the roast pork with sweet plantains...the pork was juicy and the plantains were spectacular.
I got the Mofongo with chicken mixed in (mashed green plantains with pulled chicken and a sauce)...one of my favorite things to eat...ever. Believe me when I tell you I will be a repeat offender on this one.
The cool thing about Dominican Restaurant (other than it's hilariously obvious name) is they have a food bar set up and you can go up and see what you want to order 1st...kind of like a served buffet only it's not all you can eat.
Last thing I want to add is that the service was tremendous. Our server Yennifer went out of her way to make us feelwill home. I will literally bring every friend I have here...and I know they'll love it as much as I do! -

Bueno, Bonito, y Barato.
You can't go wrong here.
I read a lot of negative comments about the parking and ambiance, however, my only concern is the food, and it is great.

Came here the other day because I was craving some good old Dominican food and in the part of Long Island where my bf lives there is none. So we on our way to the mall we came here. Parking sucks, yes it's true but walking inside I got a nice vibe from the place. The only thing was we weren't seated and we were not given menus right away. I was confused as to what to do.
The food was good and alot was given. Took a while for our food to arrive and our waitress wasn't really that much attentive. She was hanging on the other side of the place but when she was around was very nice. Nothing amazing or special but good cheap filling DR food :) -

I always get take out as everytime I came here, it was busy. Doesn't matter what time of day it is. There is a parking lot but its small. So beware you might have to park on the street.
I kept hearing that they were the best Dominican place on Long Island. Well I have been to quite a few Domincan places, and I don't think they are the best. But they have pretty good food.
The lechon / chichironi is good. The best that I love is the baked chicken with rice. Their tostones are pretty good. I will agree with Christina that it isn't Americanized. -

This is a very basic, ambience-free, almost dive status restaurant, BUT.......... this is some outstanding Dominican food. It's not in the best part of town, either, but just park on the lot, which is hard to find spaces unfortunately. Sigh. I tried their octopus salad, which was such an unsusual change for me, and I LOVED it. REALLY good. I've had their grilled chicken (a little plain & dry for me), chicken with garlic sauce (more flavor and moistness), and the grilled fish (quite good). The yellow rice and beans, as well as the plantains, were quite good. Prices are dirt cheap, and portions are gargantuan. One definitely does not go away hungry, and the food is really tasty. Can't go wrong eating here !!

I love this place for Dominican food. It is out of the way for me but I am willing to drive there for the most awesome Dominican Food. I have tried some places in Queens. Sorry but the ones I tried in Queens isn't near as good.
I live in the LES of Manhattan and go to a place in the LES but I so much prefer this place AAAAALLLLLLL the way out in LI.
I have tried their
-club steak (steak with onions), my favorite dish.
-Patitas - pigs' feet (yum)
-Pernil-pork shoulder
-Arroz Con Gandules-yellow rice with gandules-love it
-Maduros-sweet plantains
-tostones-fried green plantains-love it
-Flan-love it
-Tres Leches-love it.
I love their yellow rice with gandules.
The maduros was not ripe enough the one time I had it but last night it was okay.
The Tostones was awesome last night.
All the meats are well seasoned which is important to me.
Heck I learned how to speak what I call Comida Español because of this place!
When you walk into a Dominican Restaurant and see only Hispanic people eating...then it has gotta be good. That is how others judge Chinese places right? I walk into a Chinese place and if there are no Chinese people....I know I am in trouble!
I have gone back again and again despite how far it is from me.Listed in: Godmother of Chinatown's Best…

This restaurant may not be the most exquisite, but I just love it.
I love their mango smoothie, hot chocolate, bean sauce, club steak (oh, yum!!), beef stew, ox tail, roasted pork, shrimp salad, squid fried rice, and Spanish sausage fried rice (yes, it's greasy, but I don't care!). If there's one thing I want to complain about, it'd be--we never get to have any dessert because we are full to our eyeballs after the bread, salad, and main dish which we normally have to take at least half home.
At times, this restaurant gets quite busy and they're short-staffed, and we have to wait for our food or bill. Still, that doesn't stop me from loving it. The atmosphere is very laid-back and warm. Every time we come here, our nice waitress always takes care of us like an old friend. It's as if we were eating at a restaurant that my uncle owned. This place just makes me feel so at home. And I'm not even Dominican! -

I was in the mood for something authentic so I did a search for restaurants in Google Maps. When I saw Dominican Restaurant pop up I knew it was the place. The restaurant is on a corner and looked like a typical diner from the outside. But stepping in I knew it was going to be good without even having tasted the food. It was almost full for a late lunch hour and almost all the clientele were Latinos.
There is a buffet table in the back that serves lots of authentic dishes. I of course got the ox-tail with yellow rice and beans. It comes with plantains, salad, and soup. The rice was full of wonderful herbs & aromas. The ox-tail pieces were huge and very tender. It had lots of meat and big bones for some good gnarling. As typical for ethnic places, I got a huge box of food that I couldn't have finish even if I was starving. Lunch & Dinner for under $10!
The other items in the buffet include baked chicken, steak & peppers, chicken stew, roast pork, pig feet, and more. I was having a hard time choosing between ox-tail and roast pork because the pork looked so good. It was in large pulled pieces and looked so juicy. But I went with my old standby and don't regret it one bit. Just means I have to go back soon! -

Delicious Dominican food!...the parking sucks,so I park across the street so I don't get trapped in...the waitresses are very nice and helpful...the portions of food you get for the price is a steal! One of the best dishes they have is the oxtail with yellow rice...omg!!!to die for!!!!BUT they got one less star because their food doesn't stay warm...after a while,it gets cold and I lose my appetite...

Queens, NY
This place is good. I would give it 3.75 stars b/c of the atmosphere. It's not the best parking area, the restaurant is sort of dumpy, and they have a cafeteria style take out area in the middle of the restaurant - it's the first thing you see.
ASIDE from that, the food is good! I've been here 3 times and will go back! The food is good, honest home cooking. Nothing americanized or processed. The mofongo is delicious!! The pork and baked chicken are also amazing. I'm cuban so I'm used to GOOD hispanic food and i was impressed with this place. Give it a try - there aren't that many places that serve real food like this. The prices are awesome! Meals like this in manhattan won't take like this and will cost you double the price. -

The staff is great, atmosphere is great, food deeee lish. I ordered Grilled chicken breast with yellow rice, beans and plantinos. I washed it down with a mango shake with milk. Yum yum.. The lunch specials are great for $7.00. I just wish the restaurant was bigger with more parking.

I ordered take out from here. Portions were massive, the roast pork was tender, but everything was just way too GREASY. Rice and beans didn't have that much flavor, although the maduros were tasty. You come here for massive amounts of food and a small bill - not so much for phenomenal flavor.

Review from Matthew C.
New York, NY
The decor is sparse, but the restaurant makes up for it with an affordable lunch combo for 6.95 you can get a plate of rice and beans, salad, maduros and entree of your choosing. The horchata is also a nice hidden gem. Though I didnt eat it, the tres leches flan looks like a very delectable treat. This is definitely a good, local area fill up spot, for tasty food.

Haven't tried their lunch/dinner food but was very disappointed with their "mangu" It lacked flavor and texture, it was really water and plantains.

Review from Elle P.
Just good honest food. For less than $8 they serve you a huge serving of rice (I had the yellow rice and beans - soo good), and an entree (I had the chicken stew. The sauce was tasty.), plantains, and a salad. Good comfort food.

Garden City, NY
I've eaten at this place many, many times, and recently I tend to do takeout. The prices are really low, and the portions are huge. Most of the food is mediocre, but the real draw for me is the pernil, which is Dominican slow roasted pork. The $7.50 lunch special includes rice, beans, salad, fried plantains, and a big portion of delicious, garlicky, tasty, yummy pernil. One luch sized portion can easily feed two people. Most everything else that they serve is overcooked or not too fresh looking, but the pernil will keep me coming back time and time again!
