This place is fantastic. I wish I had the vocabulary to describe how at-home I feel when I am here.

It is like a hug when my soul is tired.

Yes, "like someone's living room" is (almost) apt. I elaborate: it is like being in someones living room in greenwich village. A someone who understands the way a heart can swell. Who understands how to keep aged wood looking new. No clutter, just grace.

Simple wrought-iron chairs with backs like hearts. One tiny candle is just enough. Real paper, please - I may feel a bit intrusive using my laptop here.

    Tidbits to note:
    - tea selections are close to basic, but good.
    - appetizers are tasty.
    - Perfectly intimate.
    - some tables can be tiny.
    - no outlets?
    - laptops must close when dinner service begins at 5pm.

    Don't come here. Thanks.

Whenever I find myself at  Doma on a weekend afternoon, it's always packed to the gills. I find myself often slnking out to seek refuge somewhere with a bit more breathing room.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when I came recently and easily found (and kept!) a table for two by the window for over an hour. We were also well pleased with the prix fixe brunch ($12), which includes your choice of breakfast entree, coffee, and a drink. I had the hash and mimosa, both of which comparable to the brunch you'd find in any similar West Village cafe and definitely cheaper. I've never been in the evening, but seems like there's often music and similar evening specials.

They're currently on Perry, but moving soon to Morton and Seventh Ave.

Bread. No napkins, no plates. That was kind of weird. But the delicious mussels and super nice service made up for that one odd blip. They were also ok with me and my dining companion hanging out after we finished eating (we had like 45 min to kill).

Oh, and they have a library of sorts on one wall with a very eclectic selection of books for both kids and adults.

Went there early on a Saturday morning and found only a few tables had been taken. It was our first time there and the barista was very helpful. We had a great breakfast, fresh squeezed orange juice, and delicious coffee. I would certainly return.

I popped into this cute little cafe for an afternoon tea. It has the feel of a small Parisian cafe and lends itself to good people watching off 7th avenue.

It was fairly busy with people doing work, eating and relaxing.  The tea was good, although we found out the hard way that they have a minimum of $15 for credit cards...and we had no cash :( A quick walk across the street to a n ATM rendered that problem.

I did not try the food, but the mussels that the couple was enjoying next to me smelled and looked delicious. Also, I noticed that they give 10% off of dinner for checking in on yelp! Always love a discount!

If there's an option of zero star, I'd give zero.

VERY BAD chai latte: When you think of a latte, you expect a rich milky drink. So chai latte should be like a latte, with mostly milk with expresso shot(s). For a chai latte, just subsitute the expresso with chai flavored syrup (hence called xx LATTE). The so called chai latte here is brewed chai tea with a little bit of milk. It can at most be called chai au lait. It was so watery that I had to take it back to the counter. And here's how things got horrible.

EVEN WORSE (easily the WORST) service: I told the barister that the chai latte was very bad and I'd like to get a regular latte instead. She tried to charge me 4.63 for it. I was like... I just said it's very bad, it's just chai tea with milk, not a latte. She could care less and gave me the worst face in the world (oh yeah, Happy New Year btw) and said that was how she made it. I don't think any customer should be treated with a shit face like that! If she were a little bit better with a smile and politeness, I'd happy to pay for another one. I had to refrain myself from pouring the cup of very bad chai latte to the sink in front of her.

Bottom line: Atmosphere is okay but tables too tight, NO wifi, so so coffee
HORRIBLE SERVICE, EXTREMELY BAD chai latte

    NOT recommended!

I haven't been compelled to write a Yelp review in a long, long time... But I MUST put in a good word for Doma Cafe!!!!!

It was my boyfriend's birthday two weeks ago and the restaurant I originally wanted to go to proved impossible for our dinner plans - the line was out the door, and did not take reservations. We walked around for quite a bit, trying to find a nice restaurant with good ambiance - and all places were too full, too expensive, or lacking in vibe. I was becoming more and more stressed by the minute... things were supposed to be perfect for his birthday!!! But we finally came across Doma Cafe, which had a wonderful, laid-back, casual and warm atmosphere and asked if they could seat our party of 8. The place was nearly full, but the waitresses asked a single gentleman if he wouldn't mind moving to another table - and we were immediately all seated.

We were there on a Thursday evening around 9PM, and the service was spectacular. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful; the food came out quickly and we were ALL very impressed with the quality: super delicious, and at this price? What a great value. The burger, mussels, house-roasted beef brisket sandwich were ALL so yummyyyy! And it's true, the fries here ARE perfection... They are super addicting! We ordered drinks too - there's certainly not a huge selection, but wine and beer are reasonably priced at $5-6 and up.

Besides the warm atmosphere, great service, great food at great value, this is why Doma gets 5 stars:
*for offering 10% off dinner for checking in on Yelp
*for the awesome, sweet waitress who gave my boyfriend a FREE birthday beer at the end of our meal
*and for the nice owner who didn't mind splitting checks/charging multiple different cards for our large group.

Thank you so much for the wonderful dinner for our occasion!!!!! I'm really looking forward to return visits!

i absolutely adore this cafe. It's part gallery (obvious by its name...) so if you're a fan of working or hanging out with friends in an artsy atmosphere, this is the place to be!
It can get quite busy sometimes and since its customers tend to stay around for a bit doing their own thing, it could be difficult trying to get a table.

Came here for dinner on a weeknight the other night.  I would say that service is still slow, but I think that may be part of the charm.  They were fairly attentive and super nice at the start (even service with a smile, and you know how I love that), till about the end of the meal.  So, if you want to get out of there, you probably need to hunt them down for the bill.  But, the beauty is, it's NYC, so rare to find a place that don't rush you out the moment you're done.  It IS a coffee house in its heart.  Linger.  Chat.  Have a great night with your friends.  Enjoy a cup of after dinner coffee or finish your wine.  Relax.

Haven't tried the food here yet, just the coffee.  It's a great specimen of cozy cafe that you wish the whole city were filled with.  The kind of place you can rest in and slow your life down a bit.  It's also the sort of place that etches beautiful flowers into the milk foam of your capuccino.  Call me a sucker.

Tables are rustic wood and the environs are warm semi-industrial with huge charcoal drawings on the walls -- all of which I love.  A great place to step in from the cold for a hot mug of anything, peruse your laptop, or have a long chat with a friend.

Doma has location (prime sunny corner on 7th Ave) and ambience in its favor, but it fails rather badly in the beverage category (which can't really be looked over when judging a cafe).  As another reviewer noted, their chai latte is quite possibly the weakest specimen of chai I have ever tasted -- barely spiced, barely milky, and barely tasting of tea.  When we asked for a little more chai concentrate (or whatever it is they use -- anything for a little more flavor!), the barista merely smirked and refused to alter anything.  It's a pity that they can't have some better quality control (and attitude) as Doma has so much potential, but I won't be returning -- with so many other nice cafes in the area, save your effort!

Grab the day's paper and read it over coffee and an egg breakfast sandwich. The sandwich is made with crispy ciabatta bread. Add a couple more dollars to add bacon. The egg was cooked just right...not too runny.

Other than the friendly service and good food, I was very impressed with the restroom. It was huge and super clean. I felt like I was in someone's home.

Came here after a night out and loved the casual, cozy atmosphere with its dark wood interior and heavy curtains to keep things cool. I ordered from the Prix Fixe menu and had a generously large, freshly made
wheat bagel with lox, coffee AND a mimosa for $13.

Everything on the menu looked divine and plentiful which is a hard combination to find for that price. I will definitely be back and hope to check out their live music one night soon.

The best word to sum up my experience? Satisfied. :)

The one and only con- Staff was friendly enough I guess, but one waitress in particular was either new or just unwilling to adhere to patrons' needs. My friend wanted poached eggs with toast and it was a big ask, apparently. When the waitress finally brought it out she had less than a friendly demeanor, gave my friend a receipt for the $1 extra and didn't provide silverware. Rude.

This place has a great atmosphere and the staff is nice. I would definitely come here to get a cup of coffee and read (computer people, be careful, Doma forbids people to pull out their computers during peak hours)
The food is the disappointing aspect.  It is pretty cheap (one brunch entree, a coffee and orange juice for $12) but portions are REALLY small and the food is nothing spectacular.
So a good option, but more for a drink than a meal.

After years of being a regular . . . meh, I've jumped ship to a friendlier, cooler, brighter place around the corner. I'll always feel fondly toward Doma, but the little things I always expected to get better -- the wildly uneven coffee, for starters -- never really did. And there's no way to put this kindly: It attracts a sort of obnoxious crowd. Lots of foreign tourists -- and that's fine. But also lots of irritating douchey young couples who look like they watch a lot of Bravo. Has lost its cool factor.

the only real thing I liked about this place is the atmosphere and they killed it just recently with this apparent format change. It looks and feels different than it did. It had been a rustic Village standard that defined this part of the city and now it's formulaic and typical of Manhattan's soul which has all but died. Following a heartbreaking trend of selling out without a clear direction seems like a sign of a business that is frantically grabbing for a branch as it sinks into oblivion.

My waitress informed me of the change as I sat down. I was expecting to meet a friend who I directed to find another venue. She gave me my tea without offering sugar. If you want to make a place a restaurant from a cafe you're going to have to get with the program. Your old couunter service model worked. In restaurants with table service you have to assume your customers' needs and accommodate them.

I so hate this kinda shit.

Coffee is decent but the service is absolutely horrid. Yes, work isn't fun, but the staff is sullen, rude and act as if they were doing me a favor by pouring me a cup of $5 coffee.

Go to Jack's on 10th between Waverly and Greenwich. They're friendly, coffee is delish and toasting a bagel doesn't take them 15min.

I've been to Doma twice and always thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. Had the mussels both times, once you have them you'll be back for more. Generous portion size in a gorgeous white wine, shallot and parsley broth - once I'd finished my mussels I drank the broth like soup! I also ordered a side of fries which I polished off as well. I had the pecan bar sundae for dessert which was absolutely delicious and also a very generous portion size. Not particularly expensive either which also adds to the enjoyment of  the night. The tables are a little small but I think this adds to the overall ambience of Doma. Can't wait to come back here again.

Nice little West Village coffee shop- simple menu and drinks selection. I loved the big open bay windows at the front which act as a kind of ledge for winter coat/ baggage storage plus making the place feel much bigger. Absolutely rammed pack on a weekend afternoon (prime coffee hour I guess), and although all the tiny tables have you saddling up knee-knocking with other coffee consuming strangers, the atmosphere arranges you comfortably enough within the situation for it not to feel invasive.

R says he frequents here to get work done as there is apparently no-wifi, and the advantage of that is less procrastination I guess. Deep book shelves with dictionaries, encyclopedias etc make for nice décor and potential reference opportunities. Polite staff who didn't shift us for 2.5 hours although we only had a cup of coffee each and a glass of water! Thinned out towards dinner time.

Some of my favorite dining experiences arise from walking into a random restaurant with no expectations, information or preconceived notions about the food.  I was in the West Village the other day and passed by a cute little winebar called Doma.  After a quick perusal of the menu, I walked in and was treated to a really scrumptious meal!

There were a variety dishes to choose from.  I first started with a salad of roasted beets, avocado, almonds, herb dressing.  I've become a recent fan of beets, and the sweet and mild flavor complemented the creamy avocado perfectly.  The almonds added a much-desired crunch, and the herb dressing had a bit of a tangy kick.  Deelish!

I next ordered two selections from the crostini menu.  I first sampled the chickpea puree with parsley and Parmesan crostini.  The chickpea puree was smooth and creamy, and the parmesan and parsley added a ton of flavor.  Mmmmm.  I also ordered the house-made ricotta with honey and thyme crostini.  I love ricotta and honey, and the thyme really rounds out the flavor.  This almost felt like a dessert, but I didn't let that stop me from finishing it!

Next, I ordered the the roasted veggies of the day - brussels sprouts.
Doma roasted these sprouts in a sweet vinaigrette, and once again, I gobbled these cute little guys up.

I finished my dining experience with the brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.  The sundae was pretty standard - not the most AMAZING sundae in the world, but perfectly acceptable (to devour entirely).

Doma is housed a quaint space with windowed seating, friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff (they walked my eating buddy through several different wine options), and a varied and interesting menu selection.  If you're ever in the West Village, give this little restaurant a try!

Quaint Village ambiance and delicious food to boot.

My half tomato soup was simple and tasty, but the half grilled panino was still lukewarm in the middle, getting me to question if it isn't made to order.

Coffee is very strong, aromatic. Soft jazz in background provides a perfect studying environment (e.g., studying for mcats or law-related materials).

Lighting is dim, but if you sit near window then there's plenty of daylight.

Beware no computers on the weekends.

Fresh-baked pastries are available on the counter. If you want to order

Farewell dinners are this era's pandemic. Leases expire, friends are itinerant, and lovers, well. . . the plurality is telling, isn't it?

This isn't the story of ours (Eleven Madison, for the record) - for Doma's not a destination, but a side-trek discovered on the way to-or-from a different place, a different time The furniture is patchworked as though to mirror its patrons' movements: in-and-out for a pre-class croissant or after-dinner espressos, or lingering with books and thoughts in that aimless refractory period spanning yuppie twentysomething and DINKhood.

We ("best friends": two survivors of a decade's worth of breakfast pastries, caffeinated heart-to-hearts, and hackneyed New York City brunches) fell in accidentally one spring evening. As per usual, our debate on some trivial topic outlasted dinner, and we chanced upon this venue to host an undetermined amount of unextraordinary jabber over some appropriately unmemorable but enjoyable cake and coffee.

The hours fell aimlessly past; the night will likely go unnoticed in the archives of posterity. I sought out Doma purposefully recently, this time alone, for a simple brunch of egg-soaked toast and fried tomatoes and to recapture some nostalgia, but the carefree, serendipitous luster was utterly lost in the effort. It just wasn't the same.

I wanted to like this place so much. A friend and I were looking for a place to hunker down on a HOT afternoon and be lazy.

But it was crowded (which I would never hold against a place in NY) except that the seating is veeeeery close to one another and it wasn't nearly cooled enough and the kicker is that the coffee was just ok.

If I lived in the west village, it might be one thing, but for what it offers, I'd rather spend my time at Ballaro in the East Village any day.

No laptops allowed on weekends and evenings -- wow. And to top it all off, the Health Department rated Doma one of the worst offenders in the West Village. Critical violations at Doma cited by the Department include evidence of mice and other live animals, cold food held above permissible temperatures and insufficient hand washing facilities.

Came here with a friend to pick up some brunch to go. I ordered the corned beef hash which was OK but a bit too sweet and not really anything like corned beef actually, while my friend ordered a turkey salad which was HUGE. I also got an americano while we waited for our orders,a nd that was ok too. We sat at the bar by the register and the desserts looked really tempting, but I had already stopped by Magnolia so I had dessert, literally, in the bag. :) The dining area is really cute, great laid back atmosphere and there's actually decent art on the walls. Looks to be a great place for brunch since all the tables were full. I would probably come back if I'm in the area.

Why is this place so popular? I hardly think that hanging a few paintings on the wall qualifies it as a gallery.

Like others have mentioned, the atmosphere is nice, the food is decent, but when I go to this sort of cafe, I prefer to sit down with my laptop and do a little work. Which brings me to put out that Doma enforces a no computer use rule on the weekends and in the evenings. Plus, there's close to no outlets in the entire cafe, and no wifi!

Staff is not terribly friendly when you forget to bring cash, either...

Excuse me, but I'd rather go to Grounded on Jane Street, or Soy Cafe!

I came her for a friends birthday dinner and was SO IMPRESSED! For being a low-key and charming environment, the food presentation was very beautiful and the food was so flavorful. Its reasonably priced and the service is great! Even the chefs came out to meet us!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date or dinner with some friends.

Doma is one of my favorite neighborhood locations. The atmosphere is lovely - very laid back and relaxing, and the music is always nice. The food is absolutely excellent, and everything I've had there is wonderful. The service is good too, and you never feel rushed to leave. Unique spot.

    There are some positives:

    1) They're open late.
    2) If you order a coffee or hot tea to stay, they serve it in a china cup.  It is a pleasure and a luxury on a cool summer evening to sit outside on one of the benches and watch people pass by while sipping tea out of a china cup.

    The negatives:

    1)  It's expensive compared to other similar places nearby.
    2)  Other than tea and coffee their 'stuff' isn't that good.
    3)  I've never gotten better than surly out of any of the counter people.
