I defy anyone to cold call this resort and NOT be answered by someone cheerful, knowledgeable and wanting to meet your needs ! I have stayed here before when I moved my son in for school . I had cold called the place on my way down and was so impressed with who answered the phone I booked immediately. When I arrived exhausted and sad, they upgraded me for free.
When Thanksgiving loomed and I could't be there, I called the Dolphin Bay where, as usual , they took the time to listen and accommodate me...my son and his roomate's will be sitting Oceanside, eating turkey!
Thank you, specifically, Brian and Todd ? The head of this place must be a wonderful leader....it is always a reflection on the boss when everyone is lovely.Comment from Erica A. of Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa 11/24/2011

We just stayed in room 336. Everything about the room and property was just amazing.
In case you feel like cooking, the kitchen is fully stocked with good utensils and appliances! The decor is so classy. The rooms are spacious and spotless. The views from every window are breathtaking. The bath products are also top of the line! They even have washer and dryer in the room, impressive! To top it all off, the service was superb, they really made us feel valued. The Lido restaurant brunch and room service was fabulous too!
Great for a romantic weekend get away or vacation with your family. I would consider booking at this place for an event too since it is so hospitable and special.
A staff member or manager named Erica check in with us and made certain all our needs were met. Beautiful location and felt all the comforts of being at home. We are so appreciative of the hospitality we received here, which says alot about this hotel since we typically stay at the Four Seasons, St. Regis and to-notch hotels.
We definitely recommend staying here.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Everything you want out of a vacation resort. Easy-to-find location, service-oriented staff, beautiful grounds, spacious and spotless rooms, comfy beds, good dining and a nice spa. We had a room with a terrace facing the ocean - a little bit of heaven for those of us land-locked souls who never tire of such a view. Would stay here again.

Dolphin Bay is indeed a lovely establishment, which was why I booked the resort to begin with. I don't know what happened, but my experience at the resort was NOT lovely.
Minus one star because I literally had to wait 2.5 hours for my room during check in. I mean, I've been up driving from San Francico since 7am and I literally had lunch before I decided to check in. So since it was past 1230PM to my assumption, I thought my room would be ready. WRONG. The agent told us that housekeeping was still cleaning the room, therefore, I should check back in around 130PM. I told myself no problem, we'll just grab a drink. An hour later, the room was still not ready. This is where my patience begin wearing off.
The agent told me if I didn't want to wait there's a two bedroom suite available, but I would have to pay an additional $100 for the room. The first thing that popped in my head was, "Are they kidding me? I literally just paid $550 before the additional $20 fee for the room already. Also, after reading all the other reviews, others received a free upgrade instantly. I just totally felt unwelcome with the fact that they were trying to upsell me adn that I drove 3.5 hours to spend a night at this resort and was treated in a unfair manner.
Once 3pm rolled along, we were able to finally get our room keys. I loved the setup of the room and everything, but the check in process torned me.
And again, lord and behold. I found a few wine glasses with lipstick on them. Not just one, but four! Of course, the following day when we checked out, I told them about the wine glasses. The agent basically told me she will address the issue with housekeeping. Sigh***
I had a bad week at work and was hoping the drive up with my Boyfriend to Pismo Beach will help alleviate everything. But the 2.5 hour wait, the upsell and the dirty dishes totally ruined it. I've never experienced something like this ever in a resort or a hotel, and I have to admit I will never step foot in their establishment again.
$600 a night including the $22 resort fee that was supposedly an ocean view room, yet a pool view room was totally absurd. Never again, Dolphin Bay.Comment from Erica A. of Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa 6/7/2011

Wow! Talk about luxiours. Our room was like a condo complete with turn down service and an ocean view. We didn't cook, host a dinner party or do laundry in our suite but we could have! My boyfriend and I enjoyed couples massages at Le Bon Vie spa and an afternoon bar b q poolside (complete with croquet). A total splurge but worthy every penny.

This place is definitely our go-to place to stay if we are to return to the Pismo area. We came during mid-week during the off-season and have had a fantastic stay. They upgraded our room from a standard ocean view to their 2 bedroom suite and it has been fantastic - and we have made full use of our stay.
We used the spa and loved our massages. We were disappointed that we could not book same day, but also understood since we are in the off-season. That said, once we got into the spa, my husband and I both enjoyed our massages greatly.
While we spent lots of time enjoying our room and our deck, we also took strolls on the beach and used the hotel as a homebase for wine tasting. The beach was awesome with the tidepools and harbor seals play in the waves. Wine tasting in the area was fantastic.
Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Especially if you can take advantage of the mid-week deals.Comment from Erica A. of Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa 9/17/2011

My family and I had a wonderful time during our stay; our hotel suite is one of the best, it's spacious and the whole property immaculate; excellent service among the staff and it's what we expected from an upscale resort property. There was a bit of an issue with other guests staying below our unit during our last two nights (they were part of a wedding party and they got rowdy and out of control), but the issue was discussed with the General Manager, and the entire hotel staff were more than apologetic. They made sure that we will absolutely consider coming back for our next family vacation! La Bonne Vie Spa also provided my two daughters and I the best massage service!

We have stayed here several times over the past few years. We come into town each year for the World of Pinot Noir festival. It is one of my favorite events.
This hotel is great for the entire family. We love it! There is plenty of room and they provide everything we need ... a fully-stocked kitchen, two bathrooms, a laundry room and amazing views. Every year we come here we look forward to our visit.
Enjoy the comfy bed and the fluffy down pillows ... it does not get much better than this. -

I did my research on which hotel to stay around the Pismo to San Luis Obispo area for a weekend to celebrate my brother's 21st. My top two came down to Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa and Avila La Fonda Hotel. I chose Dolphin Bay primarily because of the space, aesthetics of the rooms, and amenities. This resort is by far the higher-end places to stay throughout the area.
The lobby area was inviting, but quite small. Also, the valet is free, but I preferred to park near my room. There is ample enough outdoor parking. The receptionist was helpful and friendly. I've actually spoken to a few receptionists prior to and after staying at the resort and all were very friendly and accommodating. I was also upgraded to the two bedroom ocean view from the two bedroom deluxe.
Upon entering my room, I did not expect the suite to be so open and generously spacious. The room included two bedrooms (one with a king bed and one with two twin beds), a living room with a fold out couch, a dining room, a fully furnished kitchen with a breakfast table, a laundry room, and two full baths. Not too bad for about $500+ a night (that's in my opinion. I've experienced other "resorts" charging even more that isn't comparable to this).
There were a number of things where the resort paid special attention to detail:
- binoculars (I was able to see dolphins and sea otters in the ocean)
- random decorative boxes that ended up being jewelry boxes
- surround sound in the living room
- L'Octaine bath products
- small area to sit in the shower
- walk-in closets
- ample lights
- 2 plasma tvs
- turn down service was offered every night, which also included a small box of chocolates and a sheet stating the weather and daily activities for the next day
- free wifi
- private connecting patio that can be entered from the living room or master bedroom
There were a number of things where the resort did not pay special attention to detail:
- bath bubbles or bath salt for the jet tubs
- having the dvd player on to have the tv on
- no extra bed sheet for the fold out couch
- certain light dimmers were only to turn lights on or off rather than gradually dimming
- the small flat screen tv in the guest room
- resort is situated next to the freeway and street where you can somewhat hear the traffic that passes
-the water from the fridge smelled funky, but the purified water from the sink made up for it
-only 4 robes provided when there were six of us.
I wasn't able to try the pool, but I did notice it was full of families. There was a wedding at night outside the Lido restaurant, which I can see from our suite. Surprisingly enough, I could not hear the loud music when the doors were closed.
I wish I could have tried the La Bonne Vie spa, but I read there is only have 4 treatment rooms. All 6 of us would rather spa together.
Overall, I'm more than satisfied with my choice. Next time I visit, I would definitely stay at Dolphin Bay. -
Review from henry h.
After working 13 12 hours days straight, I decided I need to get away and relax. So I decide to go to a place where I can chill. I picked the Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa in Pismo Beach and it was a very nice choice.
This place is very nice but I'm giving it 4 stars because it positions itself as a total luxury resort but does not achieve it based on some of the lack of details. In my book, you MUST be perfect in the details if you are billing yourself as a total luxury resort and charging those prices.
I booked a 1 bedroom ocean view suite and got upgraded to a 2 bedroom (score!). This room was huge (a little over 1600 sq ft). It is basically a 2 bedroom condo. It has 2 baths and 2 bedrooms, living room, dining area, laundry room, big kitchen with nice appliances, and a little patio. They use L'Occitane bath products which is very nice! There is a nice heated community pool which is about 85 degrees along with a jacuzzi.
The service is friendly and accomodating. Since this resort has a kitchen in every room, you can send them a grocery list and they will have it in your room when you arrive. They can also wash your car if you need it. This resort will accomodate families, couples and pets so you will see all sorts of people there.
Some of my issues with this place are the following:
1 - size of the televisions in the bedrooms. I think they were like 19 inches and not flat screens.
2 - the living room television cable set up. you have to turn on the dvd/vcr to operate the cable which is located in the media cabinet and leave the doors open (which is not aesthetically pleasing).
3 - the master bathroom has a tiny tub.
4 - the surrond sound for the television was awful. it would get loud on certain channels and get fuzzy
I know I am being picky but if you are positioning yourself as a total luxury resort and charging north of $450 for a room per night you need to pay attention to the little details. -

Evanston, IL
This resort was perfect for us. Traveling with our three small children, we wanted a family-friendly place that enabled us to have some space, a kitchen, laundry, etc. We also wanted something that was very nice.
The Dolphin Bay met those needs and much, much more. We had a 1600sf 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen, in-unit laundry and 2 baths. We faced the ocean and our suite walked out to the pool area (gated). While the "kiddie pool" was a bit disappointing, the kids enjoyed the main pool a lot. A pathway along the cliff led to beach access with some amazing tidal pools.
The resort's restaurant needs a bit of work - service was slow and a bit unfamiliar with some pretty basic drinks. They mis-charged us, but the manager was quick to fix the problem. The food was good. The kid's mac and cheese was AMAZING! The fireside grill was great for a lazy afternoon at the pool, although the hours/days seemed to vary. Since we either cooked or went into SLO or Pismo Beach for food, the restaurant situation was not a detraction in the least.
We also liked that you could park your car and not have to deal with valet every time we went somewhere. The rooms were serviced twice a day and the staff was incredibly helpful, friendly and responsive.
It is pricey, but since there were 5 of us, we didn't find it excessive, and thought it was worth every penny!
We had a wonderful stay will definitely return. -

Sausalito, CA
Having vacationed in the area for years, this was hands down my most enjoyable vacation. The five of us stayed in a two bedroom/two bathroom villa. It was spacious, clean, with delightful amenities, including large flat screen tvs, sunken bathtub, a fully stocked kitchen (even a garlic press), and L'Occitane toiletries. There is an infinity pool and spa. Both were clean and yes, though the spa is a little small the services are relaxing and comfortable. There is also beach access near the cliffs hotel (next door).
I'd definitely give 5 stars but there were a few things that were just minorly irritating. 1) the hot tub was broken for the 5 days we were there. Hot tubs are essential when on vacation! 2) the hotel boasts free wifi but the free wifi offered is a bit shoddy. The connection didn't even work the first two days and then was in and out the rest of the days making it impossible for those who had planned to do some work, to actually work.
I would recommend the Dolphin Bay Resort. We vacationed during the busy New Years weekend and had such a pleasant stay. -

Our suite at the Dolphin Bay Resort was beautiful. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and made you feel right at home. Our ourdoor light was broken so we called them to let them know, and they were out fixing it 20 mins later. We had an ocean front view but since we were only up for the weekend we never got to fully enjoy the view, pool or spa. We did rent one of their hundreds of free DVD's and lit the fire one night and watched the movie.
The location is great, close to Pismo, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles..great wine tasting location (which we did!) and great shopping! -

I stayed at Dolphin Bay Resort in Pismo Beach last weekend, and wow! This place is amazing. Who knew that the Central Coast had such a luxurious hotel tucked into the cliffs above the ocean? The whole experience made me feel like I was at a 5 star resort on some tropical island. The rooms here are beautiful. So tasteful and really large.
I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with my wife and 2 daughters. It was so nice to have plenty of room while looking at the ocean the whole time. We also were able to use our full kitchen which really comes in handy with kids, and the fact that each room has it's own laundry is a huge plus. The bathtub was so big that all 4 us could fit!
The pool is gorgeous. It was so nice to walk down and have a drink and relax while watching the kids swim. The view from the Jacuzzi is incredible-especially at sunset. The service was great-they were on it without overdoing it. We ate at Lido several times and it was delicious. The small plates are so good- it was fun to share several of those. I also highly recommend the crab omelette-they must've cracked the crab right before they served it to us.
I did not get a chance to get a massage at the spa-La Bonne Vie-but I did walk in there and check it out. I will be back to try that next time.
I really recommend this place-it was so luxurious and actually pretty affordable. Everyone there was really nice, in fact we will be back to stay for the weekend again next month with friends! -

This place makes you feel right at home. Minus 1 star for being overpriced but it's definitely worth a try. Took the girlfriend here for our 3 year anniversary so this was a splurge.
The rooms are fully furnished. We made use of the full kitchen so instead of eating at the restaurant downstairs, we just went to the local market to purchase food. Just think of this place as a huge apartment. It's a home away from home. Bose surround sound system is wonderful. Bed was comfortable but not as nice as the W Hotels.
I thought this place would be tucked away somewhere but it's right off the freeway on a strip with other hotels. So that was a bit of a bummer.
A few things that bugged me about the room:
- I couldn't figure out how to turn on the AC for the life of me
- 2 vents in the bathroom but no fan = stinky poo!
- I expected a working microwave for the price I paid
Overall, wonderful stay but I wouldn't return unless I got a super good deal or could afford to wipe my @$$ with $100 bills. -

My first and only trip to Pismo was a very Memorable one, and Dolphin Bay Resort was a big part of it! I'm writing a review 6 years later, because a lot of my friends have been going to Pismo Beach lately, and remembering this place makes me want to go back! I believe I was a sophomore in HS when we came, from the outside of the resort I expected it to be some small, 2.5-3 star motel, from the outer apperance, kind of looked like a apartment complex... but that definitely was not the case, I walked up the stairs with my family to our room and when we opened the door it was far from my expectations. We had 2 or maybe it was 3 rooms (the master bedroom was huge!) , 2 bath, a kitchen that looks better and bigger then the one we have at our own house, stocked with pans, pots, plates, cups, glasses, utensils, etc. Ceiling fans (they look like the ones from the Elephant Bar), and outside our balcony had the most BEAUTIFUL view, I remember waking up in the morning, looking out at the view and there was a couple standing near the beach in their robes. It looked like a picture off a postcard. Lol! Anyway, modern decor, plasma tv's, I believe it had cable, HBO, and i'm sure they have free wi-fi, I wouldn't know though because we were on vacation, duh! Just wanted to leave a review, because honestly this was one of the nicest hotels/resorts i've stayed at. So beautiful! I will be returning with my bd as soon as we can get days off and we are due for a weekend getaway! (=

Absolutely the best hotel I have ever stayed in!!!
While pricey (about $350 a night when we stayed there), it is just outstanding. It's like you are staying in a friend's beach front condo.
Every detail is attended to. The beds were comfortable. The linens were soft, and did not reek of chlorine. The full kitchen is truly gourmet. GE Artica fridge, Wusthof knives in the kitchen, granite countertops, flat screen TV's, and the view is amazing. Right on the cliffs in Pismo.
No charge for valet parking, and the on-site restaurant is really exceptional for a hotel restaurant.
Staff was beyond friendly...really, this place is one of the best kept secrets in California. -

Loved this place! I went with several family members and my 8-month old and it was so comfortable. Having the full kitchen makes it so easy to stay with kids and asian grandparents, who both tend to have set feeding times and habits ;). We enjoyed margaritas in the jacuzzi and the pool is heated. Only slightly negative thing is there is a very limited menu at the pool and the food is prob 3.5 stars, but all the other aspects of this place more than make up for that. You can always drive into Pismo for other restaurants. I cannot wait to go back here!

The facilities and grounds are well kept. First class from the time you check-in to checking out. The view was amazing!
I have stayed at many high end place in the upper 48 states and this place is among the top!
The infinity pool and spa are awesome. They had live music in the afternoon and into the evening by the poolside grill. The view from the grounds was amazing. The path along the ocean makes a statement compared to other properties on either side of the resort.
The suite was amazing and worth every penny. I'm a geek, so I fell in love with all the up to date gadgets in the suite. The surround sound system was amazing. I was able to connect my AppleTV to the system without a huge production. They even provided an extra long ethernet cable.
The decor in the room was modern with a natural flare. The suite was over 1,000 square ft. The bathroom was big! You could live here and not feel like you were at a resort/hotel. Even the hide away bed was comfortable!
There are so many awesome things to mention but this place is worth every penny. -

THE BEST HOTEL I'VE EVER STAYED IN!
The rates are very high, but you should bring along a few other friends to enjoy the decadence. Very new, service is great, and they drove me around in the complimentary luxury SUV when I didn't want to drive myself.

This place would have been nice but they really blew it. They started doing maintenance work in the morning. It sounded like a jack hammer or something. We called the front desk and they did stop but then started up again in an hour explaining that they thought we'd be up by then?!!!? Umm not so much the definition of relaxing, at all. All they offered in the way of compensation was a gift certificate for 10% off a future stay and mentioning that we should go to Hawaii instead for a trip if we really wanted relaxing. Appalling lack of customer service! And this place while no Four Season is not cheap. You would expect much more in the way of just basic good customer service.

I stayed during the week in the winter and the resort blew away my expectations. A place this nice is normally out of my price range, so it was a treat to enjoy the ocean view suite and play hookie on a Wednesday. The room was more than spacious (almost bigger than my apartment in SF!) and very nicely designed. It had a great view of the ocean and pool from the balcony - which was a great place to enjoy the brisk February nights. All in all, a great stay!

The best property in the area by far.
My wife and I spent 3 short days at the Dolphin Bay. The staff was more than just attentive - they were on top of everything and very polite.
The ocean front suite was spacious, modern and elegant: I spent at least 5 hours on the balcony listening to the waves crash with a glass of wine.
The facilities are top notch. Gym, spa, infinity pool. One night we decided to order from the restaurant. FANTASTIC!
Close to central coast wineries. On the Beach. Great Staff. Elegant accomodations. HEAVEN. Thank you for a perfect stay. -

This review is for the spa at Dolphin Bay. I have been here a few times when visiting my sister who lives on the central coast. The spa is smaller and has a cozy feel to it. This would not be a good place for large groups since they do not have the capacity to handle more than a few people. There is only one shower that I saw and the dressing area would be tight for more than a few ladies. It was perfect however for my Mom, sister and myself. They have all the showering and toiletry amenities that you would expect in a spa. The robes are cozy and the shoes are so cute that we got my Mom a pair to take home. There is a lounging area in the front or you can take your wine or other beverage and sit out on a chaise situated on the lawn in front of the spa/hotel. We took advantage of this on one visit. It was very tranquil lounging in our spa robes overlooking the beautiful blue Pacific surrounded by beautiful grounds. I have only had massages here, but my sister and mother have had facials and waxing. They both raved, as did I for every service we have received at the spa. I will definitely return again for another tension relieving experience at Dolphin Bay.

Dolphin Bay is a true gem. From the incredibly large and beautifully appointed rooms, the beach access to the exceptional service, we had a truly perfect stay. The beds are comfortable, the robes pure bliss, and the bath products didn't require me to take out any of my "brought-along-in-case-the-shampoo-is-horrible" out of my overnighter. And though they are a brand-new hotel, the service was impeccable. The food in their on-site restaurant, Lido, was delicious, with a wine list to match. At 9PM the pool rivals any Bellagio-of-the-Central-Coast and it must be seen. I'm not going to spoil the secret, you just have to go and see for yourself. I would highly recommend this hotel --- you simply must stay here if you are looking for a gi-normous room, an incredibly comfortable stay and a staff that makes you feel like you're a welcome guest of the family. Just book it now, it's worth it!

very very nice hotel. We had an ocean front top floor room with two bedrooms, we were very suprised with the size of the room, two very large bedrooms, two large baths, nice size kitchen, eating area and living room. An added perk was two walk in closets where we could fully hide our luggage, clothes and other beach stuff. Views were just incredible. Staff were very pleasant and accomodating. Pool was heated to a nice temperature and somewhat protected from the wind. We enjoyed the beach that was in walking distance to the hotel. Prices were a bit high but worth the splurge.
