Did anybody know this park used to be a cemetery?
They could not get all the bodies from the underground but
WE ARE HAVING FUN!!!
Two events in this park that I liked, San Francisco Symphony Free concert and "Hunky Jesus Contest".
The view of the city is great and it is nice to get some sunlight here.
No wonder some people call this park, "Dolores Beach".
Sometimes I just want to be outside. I believe we all have a duality when it comes to what binds us to the outdoors versus a typical human lifestyle. We're often told we're far above the average creature of nature with petty necessities like sunlight and a few trees.
Some feel this tug in two directions more than others, I personally feel it a great deal. By definition as the cities grow and "advance", the nature that was must shrink.
I love the outdoors. I want to hike, and wander the forest at night. But then the part of me that is anxious for movement absolutely loves the city. I love looking out my windows and being surrounded by stacks of buildings with glowing windows. The sirens, the sounds of the city. The craziness I see every day reminds me I'm alive.
But what if you live in the heart of SF and you want to play in the sun? To just 'be' outside? Have some air, relax. Admire the greenery for a minute. Perhaps have encounters with people that feel as you do, that love the sun's rays but also enjoy the stone streets and constant pulse that can only come from a city like SF?
Come to Dolores. I've sat here in the sun more days than I remember. I've sat under trees and read for hours. I've laid down on the hillside and watched nothing. I know I'm in the city, but somehow when in this park.. I'm not.
On a warm day the people are in the hundreds. Music is floating around, games are played. Picnics on the grass while people ride bikes. I relax almost instantly when I step into the park. I can see the city, it's literally right there. This park is not huge, but it's somehow an oasis that shows me I 'can' live in the city and still get away. I'm a short bus ride away and it'd be worth ten times the travel for the calm I feel when I lounge about Dolores Park. Golden Gate is nice too, but somehow this smaller version of green awaiting me in the Mission feels more special. GG is huge and off to the side, where Dolores is an outpost right in the thick of it all, just waiting for me to come and forget about things for awhile.
I don't know what I want. Sometimes I feel like two different people that want categorically different things in life. But when I'm here, I can sit under a tree and feel the the sun, knowing that my city is right there awaiting my return when I'm ready to go back. Dolores is a safe place to accept that you're a city dweller who loves to take two steps away now and again.
I only hope 100 years from now people such as me that just plain old like to absorb some sun can still enjoy this park the exact same way that I have. I am thankful that we're lucky enough to have it.
Most people who know me know that it's my dream to live in San Francisco, which, due to various life circumstances has not happened (yet!). What they don't know is that my secondary fantasy is that I'm living somewhere where I can walk to Dolores Park every weekend.
If Golden Gate Park is the land of pot, Dolores Park is the land of booze. Whenever I'm here, everyone and their dog seems to have a beer in hand. Speaking of dogs, everyone has one of those too.
On that note, I can't remember the last time I was in Dolores Park and completely sober, but I have many memories of lying in the sun, stumbling up and down the hills to use their graffiti-covered bathroom, staring out at the lovely view of the city, and chilling on blankets with various classmates of mine.
Amidst the trees and grass, there are people of all kinds hanging out at Dolores. Don't worry not fitting in, just come and relax. Or protest. Wait, scratch that. You might not want to protest conservative causes. It IS San Francisco.
Serene, usually sunny, huge trees for shade, lush impossibly green grass, benches and tables, a semi clean bathroom, lots of scampering doggies, and the best part of all, it's near Bi-Rite Creamery......An unusually beautiful section of the Mission.
Definitely the best park I've ever been to (and def. my favorite!).
Huge area......... just enough trees green grass......... communal setting most of the time with tons of people sitting down everywhere (sometimes you're literally a foot or two away from someone in all directions!)......... fun feel w/ lots of colorful/interesting type people......... BEAUTIFUL view of downtown SF......... in the heart of everything (between the MISSION & CASTRO! woo!)......... good food nearby......... often special events like live music......... festivals......... and often free outdoor movies.
Etc, etc, etc.
:gasp gasp, out of breath!:
Hah. Obviously, this park rocks my socks off.
Go check it out! Bring a blanket and/or towel (at least something to put down under you when you sit), a jacket (it can get cold and windy), an acoustic guitar, kite, frisbee, or other entertaining item, perhaps some food/drink, and enjoy!
You will not be dissatisfied!
*SOME SIDE NOTES:* Park is on a slope (side of a hill), ice cream is often sold by push-cart vendors, no alcohol permitted (but it might be during special events), there also are lots of bike racks as well as public restrooms.
Dolores park is like the living room of San Francisco, its a place where anyone and everyone can go for free if they want to have a family reunion, or get drunk before they hit the bars. its located centrally to the casrto and the mission, i have met some of my best friends in this park.
The only problem is the police like to patrol this park at random writing tickets for drinking in the park. There is never any fights no one is ever out of control or deserves to be harrassed while having a good fun time with family and friends because they are having a drink or 2.
Dolores park is a great place to get a tan or some really good pot brownies! with BiRite Creamery right across the street its also a great place to come eat the best ice cream in the city. Also only a block away on either 19th or 18th and valencia you can get 40's for $2.25 or $2.00 tall boys of PBR or High Life. if its sunny out you can gaurantee to find anywhere from dozens to hundreds of ppl enjoying this epic park!
Instructions to enjoying Dolores Park:
Drink champagne, play tunes, enjoy the sun. REPEAT.
Love this place. It has an amazing view of the city and it's the best way to waste away a summer day with friends and people watch while working on your tan. Things that are needed:
1. Booze
2. Sun block
3. Beach attire
4. Pot
Don't worry if you forget 1 or 4, they are available at Bi-Rite or from your local cart truffle/brownie seller who is bound to come by and ask you if you want a treat.
Tips to remember: If The Castro is your crowd, stay on the Castro hill side, if the Mission is your crowd, stay on the lower/mission end. More than likely, you'll be near your peoples. Oh, and us gays love the dog park side, so it just makes sense.
It's something to experience, and when you're there, you know, in your heart, that this is San Francisco.
There is something inherently magical about Dolores Park, bringing together every faction of SF into one green melting ground.
Hipster youth with their neon glasses and skinny jeans lay out among sundresses and polos, dogs walk their owners, and families of every shade come to soak in that which can never be seen but forever felt.
On this beautiful long weekend, we made our way to Dolores for a BBQ that highlighted why I have come to love this city so dearly.
Come with a few friends, and leave with many more.
Indulge in a cheese and cracker plate, while learning about a father son reunion that brought everyone around the blanket.
All the while, being surrounded by every color on the planet, glued by a happiness that must have been it's very definition.
The line ran down the street for BiRite ice cream, laughter comforted every blade of grass, and on this plain green canvas came together a sliver of one's history that may be easily forgotten, but loaded with many of them.
Take your flip flops off, pack a few tastes, and let the sun do all the work.
Dolores Park, that's where it is. The dream you were chasing...
Dolores Park, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
Ok, there are too many things I love, and I can't count that high.
If I were to list a few, I'd say:
You're right by a MUNI train, so you're convenient. You are host to some of the most fun get-togethers both formal and random. You always have good weather. You're just a stumble down the hill from the Castro. Like Cheeseman Park in Denver, you're very gay friendly. You're straight friendly too! And Hipster friendly most of all!
If I had to classify myself according to this awesome map, I'd fall into several categories:
http://sanfranciscosch...
E and A would suit me best...
One of my most fond memories was from this past Easter when the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence had their fun, including Hunky Jesus contest. Nothing says sexy like a hot man on a stick!
So let's pretend we're on one of those freaky Urban Safari tour buses (what are those about anyway??):
We've just spent some time gawking at the gays in the Castro and as we motor down 18th we happen upon scenic Dolores Park (or "DP" our super cool tour guide informs us). Luckily, it's a sunny day (any day of the week because people in SF have the ability to sun bathe any time any day...no 9-5s here). The tennis courts are filled with straighty couples smackin balls, the basketball courts house some exceptionally coordinated hipsters playing bike polo, the make shift soccer fields are bumpin with kick ball and frisbee, you start fantasizing about the day when you can join the festivities. Maybe that fine day the Mime Troupe is out and you catch a free show, or you could just snuggle up to your fixed gear on hipster hill. Who knows? But it will be glorious.
You are shocked back to reality as the guide points out the tremendous lines for the bathroom. You look away in disgust only to catch a glimpse of someone pissing on the MUNI tracks. When in Rome..
You settle back into your chair comforted with the knowledge that surely you would never be pushed to such limits... but a 6-pack of Tecate later?... I mean when you gotta go you gotsta go..
Oh my I didn't even see this many banana hammocks in the Castro! Your tour guide explains the term "cruising." But look at that amazing view!
This is the last straw, you can't take it any more. You need to experience it for yourself. You grab your 24 oz champagne of beers, put on your sundress to show off your tats, and head down the hill. Hopefully, the bible thumpers aren't harmonizing Hail Mary to the tune of Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved."
You want sausage, come here. I got plenty of servings on a recent Saturday.
I experienced Dolores Park during two distinctly different times in the day.
It's fairly quiet and mild in the morning. You enjoy the scenery and beauty that is SF. Half naked men sun bathing, popsicle cart vendors working the bells, kids playing, and people reading in the beautiful sun. You can find a nice spot in sun, and plop down on a blanket. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. Ahhhh. You get my drift.
It's a whole 'nother show in the the afternoon. If you find the perfect spot somewhere, you will likely be sharing it with as many people as you can imagine. You smell Mary Jane, you are probably likely to sit in warm dog poop. Entertainment all around, and you will not be bored with all the people watching. Busy busy little bee's playing "toss the ball" and hacky sack.
The key thought to leave you with, if you want to take a nap and enjoy a relaxing day with your thoughts, don't come here in the afternoon. It's too busy, and there is always too much to see, hear, taste, and smell....
Dolores is the heart and soul of SF!
I think I spend more time in Dolores than I do in my apartment. and i'm not the only one! I love how on any given sunday, the park is a massive party. it doesn't even need to be a holiday! it's the perfect place to lay out in the sun and sip afew beers. and you gotta love the chinese collecting your cans, you don't even have to get up to throw away your empty's
if you're lucky, the guy with speakers on his bike will show up and start a mobile dance party. it wouldn't be right if he wasn't blasting "Dont Stop Believing!"
Probably the best park ever.
On a nice warm day with some friends we ventured here with some beer and chips in hand.
We first stopped to watch part of a supposed Mime show, where the Mimes spoke the whole time. We checked it out till we realized it didn't make sense.
We made our way to the top of the park where you had a great view of all in the park and the city beyond.
This was where I was introduced to the Man Shelf. If I was in really good shape looking for some man action, this would be my place.
Since I'm not, its just good people watching.
I saw gays, lesbians, strait people, dogs, people selling cold cuts, drugs, homelessexuals, drunks, transvestites, crack heads, family's, and the only time I saw the Cops was when they busted some people with glass bottles.
Liberal cities are the best, everyone was out enjoying the awesome day!
This park rules.
A couple months ago, I couldn't get my mind off of three things:
1. The fact that I've never been to San Fran or the west coast
2. The fact that I need a vacay
and
3. The fact that I DESPERATELY need a vacay
So when I got my tax refund back in the spring, I appropriately bought a ticket* to San Fran and counted down the weeks until I was making the magical pilgrimage to my homeland.
Now that I'm back in New York, I'm experiencing postpartum of the worst kind, but what can you do?
Nowhere was I more relaxed or happier than in Dolores Park. Sure, it has its cons: It's not very big, the grass** isn't that green, and the public restroom is like an unsanitary game of Jenga. Nobody flushes; whose pee will be the first to overflow the toilet?! Who will be drunk or high enough to actually flush?! Find out never hopefully.
But, really, this park is almost as good as it gets. Where else can you openly drink beer and not worry about it? Where else will someone inevitably be walking by to take your empty bottles, thus providing waiter service? Where else will people try to sell you puppies, ice cold beer, popsicles, and gingerbread pot cookies one right after the other?
It's a sun-bathing beach. It's a great place to watch Annie Hall when they show movies in the park at night. It's a great place to look at the skyline. It's a great place to be on vacation.
__________
* Virgin American airlines is BALLER. I'm on the fence about writing its own review. But it's almost like a gay disco. Who could resist?
** The grass you sit on, that is.
Use any dictionary to look up "hipster/hippie hangout," and I'm sure you'll find a picture of Dolores Park.
Most of the trees in this park are of the palm variety and stationed around it's perimeter, making the open and sprawling lawn a great place to meet up with your friends to pass the dutchie pon de left han' side or take a hassle-free nap, as I witnessed many people doing - while surprisingly NOT getting robbed! (Wow, NYC has made me so jaded.)
*I'll be honest: My enjoyment of this park may/may not have been affected by the cute truffle man peddling his ganja ganache goodies.
Although Golden Gate Park was previously my favorite park in the country (although, I wouldn't exactly call myself a park aficionado), I think in a head-to-head with Dolores, Dolores takes it. To me, Dolores is so much more than just a park - it's not only the life of the neighborhood (I'm lucky enough to live 2 blocks away), but also captures the spirit of this city: vibrant, eclectic, active, friendly, and accepting.
The fact that it's always sunny in the Mission doesn't hurt either. I'm beginning to question if there is any better way to spend a lazy SF Saturday afternoon than in a bikini, listening to music in the park. Maybe in a bikini, listening to music, and drinking beer and wine in the park...
The grilled cheese competition, pride events, movie nights, the soapbox derby, cute dogs, the Jesus look a-like contest, picnics, one of the best views of the city, people running around 1/2 naked, tanning, special edible treats, more cute dogs, sports, DJs spinning during the afternoon, the best people watching in the city (you have to admit there are some pretty creative styles), tons of space so you can find whatever niche suits you best, ...and yes, even more cute dogs. This park has it all and should not be missed.
Even though on extremely croweded weekends the muni tracks turn into urine alley, I still love this park. If they ever renovated the bathrooms I'm going six stars for Dolores.
I had a Dolores Park moment today. The temperature was a good 10 degrees higher than forecasted. Someone was playing house music. The J was rolling by. The couple to my left (gay) looked happy. The couple to my right (straight) looked happy. Kids were running around the playground. Wine bottles were being opened. Books were being read. The skyline looked as awe inspiring as ever.
Dolores Park had me falling in love with my fine city all over again.

What's not to love about a city park that allows you to take in the sights of SF, while enjoying the nice sunny days...
And hey, if you're lucky, you'll see the guy walking by that only wears flip flops, sunglasses and a string around his waist with a pouch to hold his "goods". His very LARGE "goods".
Dolores park just gets better every week. Now it's pretty much frothing with cart food, weed vendors and special events.
If you want to just chill in the sun, eat a piece of weed chocolate/brownie/krispie treat/truffle or just plain weed..... it will find you here.
Props to the Creme Brulee cart... the grilled cheese invitationel and movie night!

I am in love with Dolores Park!
I just moved to lovely San Francisco a few days ago, and have spent the past 3 days in a row hanging out here (and going again tomorrow). I was lucky to have spent an amazing 4th of July in the park with a group of friends, that continuously grew throughout the day with randoms and acquaintances.
It's a beautiful park, filled with babes drinking PBR, a man walking around selling 'ganja treats', a girl selling questionable 'vegan cookies', and the occasional crackhead. I love how you can hangout and drink out in the open without being busted, and that there's a can-man who comes along to take your empties off your hands. How thoughtful!
It's great people watching, and a sick place to relax. Though, if you do, please be sure to wear sunblock. I did, but forgot to put it on my legs, hungout for probably 6 hours, and burnt just my knees! KNEES! Brutal.
It's the best!
I can't think of a better place to relive your college days on the campus lawn playing frisbee, soccer, softball, volleyball, smoking weed, making out, walking on a tight rope, having a hula hoop contest, giving out otter pops, buying MJ baked treats, ALL on the slip-n-slide.
Do you need a permit to be the official DJ of the park or have a license to be the sole MJ supplier? And what is the name of your bakery because I didn't see you the last time! Is there an exotic animals day where we can have show and tell, but only if your pet doesn't eat mine!
Yeah, I want to see it ALL. And I won't even bat an eye.
Wow.
I'm not sure you could cram in anymore character into one small space. Wanna see hippies, pant-less men, topless women, gays, straights, foreigners, dogs, cats and more... all hanging in the middle of San Francisco on a clear and breezy day? Well, if so, Delores is your spot.
In all my years of park-going, I don't think I've ever seen such a diversity on one patch of grass. Remarkable!
A little dirty (littered with cigarette butts, beer bottle caps, and random other pieces of garbage), so hopefully it won't be a complete landfill after this weekend's shenanigans.
This is a park? Grow some grass, and clean up the turds, and then http://may.be I'll sit on your mounds. (cept for movie night, which is pretty fantastic)
For me?Gimme the soft grass of yerba buena gardens...and just a short BART ride away.
Dolores Park from a tourists' point of view:
To my local friend: Where do we go that isn't touristy, a place where the locals go?"
Friend: "Go to Bi-Rite then people watch at Dolores Park!"
I ended up there 3 days in a row.
My review is now just going to consist of me telling you what I saw there. Now, maybe this is the "real" SF, my annoying tourist self has no idea. But whatever it was, it sure as hell was a good time.
Things we saw:
1.) A homeless type person with a HUGE cat scratching post. Tied to said scratching post was a cat. Hey, the cat has to bring its home with it too!
2.) Some kids looking like they were in the middle of a Dungeons & Dragons type role playing game as they were dressed up looking like they were from Middle Earth
3.) A guy who looked EXACTLY like Rob Zombie
4.) A homeless guy all set up with his cart and such, but he also had a milk crate. He had trapped a pigeon or something underneath it and put heavy objects on top of it and would sit on it to keep the pigeon from getting out.
5.) We were offered a lot of "special" cookies and juice. I think you know what I mean.
6.) We sat down and noticed a hospital bracelet. Then about 5 feet away was a pill bottle. Upon further inspection, we knew the name, DOB, date and time of discharge of a particular young man who had been prescribed some anit psychotics. All from a bracelet and pill bottle.
I could go on, but you get the point. Best people watching ever!! Everybody was getting along and just chillin' which was very nice to see. Boston Common doesn't quite accomplish the same thing.
So all you tourists, go to Bi Rite then come here, but don't act like a tourist. Try to blend in and have a good time!
(Click red heels together)
"There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home"
Dolores Park is probably the best place to just sit back and relax. What I notice from Dolores Park is that people come and lay out in attempt to tan. It's like hipsters in LA who go to the beach to smoke pot, drink beer, tan and take pictures of each other. Hope to get a good picture that meets your expectation for a good Facebook shot.
San Fran and Dolores Park are different because guys walk around and sell pot brownies / pot truffles / pot candy!!!! Okay maybe this is sweet and devilish but i don't seem to have an effect to edible goods. So this is disappointing for me, but I'm sure others will roll their heads off after sampling the pot goods.
I didn't give this review 5 STARS, because the last time I was at D Park I couldn't help notice the police on bikes passing by and looking over our shoulders.
Uncomfortable and awkward.
Is this place supposed to be lenient and open to illegal activity or not?
However i can sit here alone or with friends and people watch all day, and also the dogs that come out to play are just way to cute.
Hippest place on the planet??? Open for debate.... however, totally rad scene full of scenesters, families and the occasional troll. Bring a blanket, hang with fixie brohemians near the bottom of the hill (riding SF hills is no problem for these people, but walking their bikes up a simple slope appears to be tedious in their blasé perspective); check out the slip and slide outside the head, or wander up to Castro beach to tan with the boys. The girls are beautiful and the gentlemen (occasionally) are bearded. Watch out for the random hypodermic needle hidden in wait, lying in the grass. The open market that gets going around 2pm Sat and Sun will supply you with various trappings and accoutrements.
Definitely my favorite SF spot in the Summer.
Here is the deal.
The park has what you need and more. Big space, great views of the city, surrounded by great restaurants and diverse neighborhoods. You'll find all walks of life at this park.
Plenty events always going on here too. This is a good one:
http://doloresparkmovi...
Sit back relax and enjoy the scenery.
You've just been yelped in.
Just got home from a beautiful day at Dolores Park. This is my new all time favorite San Francisco park!
This is the kind of park that you could have whatever you'd like..beers, BBQ, 420 friendly, you name it. Not to mention that there was a DJ playing anything from Reggae to Rap. There were a couple hundred people at the park today, but it is so big that it could easily fit a couple more hundred and you wouldn't feel crowded at all.
PS. If you come here on a hot day, you have to hit up BiRite Creamery across the street!
As a teacher, I am about to have an inordinate amount of time on my hands. And even though binge drinking and dating questionable men are excellent summer activities, I can do those just fine in the school year when I actually have professional obligations. From June 12th until August 19th, I'll have only myself and a few friends on funemployment to keep me occupied during the day.
The solution, of course, is to spend as much waking time as possible in Dolores Park. It's one of those freebies that makes penny-pinchers like myself stoked on life in San Francisco. No matter the day and no matter my interest, there is always something going on.
1. Training for a half marathon?
- With the uneven terrain and the general boxy perimeter of the park, I'll be able to incorporate some awesome fartlek interval hill training into my workouts.
2. Accomplishing my goal of catching up on my book queue?
- Even with loads of people around, there's something quite satisfying about sprawling out on the grass with a good book in hand.
3. Getting over my irrational fear of most dogs?
- This park is super doggie friendly, and assuming they're not stealing my food, the pups are adorable and the owners don't let them run amok too much.
4. Eating my way around the city?
- My general Friday plan will be to try out some place new and exciting (Kitchenette, Little Skillet, Tartine, Jay's Cheesesteak, just to name a few) and then truck the goods back to the park to nom on deliciousness in the open air.
5. Maybe, just maybe, finding a suitable gentleman and not the same clones that I seem to pick up in bars north of Market?
- Every once in awhile a savory character pops up amongst the mass of hipsters slacklining between the two southeastern trees and the hot gay men tanning on Speedo Row.
6. Remembering all the good times as I look back on the past year spent living in the city?
- I've watched the soap box derby and cheered for a human-sized hamster wheel careening down Dolores Street. I've iceblocked in a santa suit down the northern hill. I've watched the fireworks and wondered why I decided to do so so far from the wharf. I've done a Power Hour with friends and refused to give the excess beer to wandering teenagers. And all of it was in the park.
When it comes down to it, though, I don't really need a reason to head out to Dolores Park. My absolute favorite thing to do is throw on a sundress and shades, pick up a bottle of wine and a slab of cheese from Bi-Rite, and just sit in the park with my roommates. Few things are better.
AMENITIES:
1,) Tennis courts... I don't remember what else... all I remember is the massive number of people just chillenns
2.) Across the street from Bi-RIte
3.) In Mission district so you can shop around
ATMOSPHERE:
What the heck. Totally reminds me of that 1920's painting where there's just hecka people standing around, picnic-ing, or playing at the park. Surprising thing is, it's not like there hella activities provided on the park, it's mostly a big mound of grass. Yet soo many people just chillen there with friends, playing guitar what not. I guess it's cool, why waste money or resources when you can have a grand time sitting at the park with friends.
Ive never, and i mean never, seen so much oiled-down-man-meat in speedos.....of course, they're all gay, so that doesnt do me much good. But the women with no inhibitions flaunting their bras......well that was nice sexy eye-candy. Men who?
My heart belongs to GG park, but Dolores Park is just as nice on a hot day with a sea of people, and i mean miles and miles of half-nakie galore. It was so unbelievably HOT. Like the kind of hot where you want to strip down to nothing but your knickers and pour ice water all over your sweaty hot body. Or better yet, an ice cold slip & slide with jello at the end. Ahhh, memories....*sigh* The diversity of everyone here and the vibe all around was pretty sweeet. There's nothing more relaxing than fun in the sun on a gorgeous afternoon. And all of the adorable dogs (yes im talking to you Truffles..hehe), that just made me yearn for one of my own. Dammit. I hear they also do movie night here, i'll have to catch that some time.
It was a beautiful day to celebrate love & equality. Happy Pride to all! :)
ps: dog-mask guy....wow....congratulations, i was utterly fascinated.
(kicking self in ass for not getting a picture)
Dolores Park with a few good peeps, with a Dolores Park Cafe hot chicken sandwich (my favorite ever) and smoothie, a flask (not mine) and sunshine. That's life
When i was living in SF when i was a kid, id come to this park with my mom, and i remember seeing a group of idk, suspicious teenagers hanging out by the restrooms, eekk..but anyways i went back and this place has changed! it is not the same dolores park i remember, but its still pretty great. you can still sit on the grass, and enjoy your day with whoever, and your dogs. the playground still looks the same and everything. you have to enjoy being able to have a place like dolores park in SF.
btw. to the little girl who i let borrow my light up minnie mouse doll when i was like 5 or so, im still waiting for you to give it back!! ..you werent suppose to take it home with you, hooker!
=)
Friends took me to Dolores Park for a stroll. The park is clean, and has a fair amount of room to play sports, or to just sit, and be. (I'm already pondering what book to bring next time I'm in the area.)
We snapped obligatory, touristy photos, and people-watched: there were quite a few folks relaxing around us. Dogs too. This place can get crowded, so it's not always a fun fest.
Know the best part about Dolores Park? It's right by Bi-Rite Creamery, the best ice cream place ever.
Very nice park. If you love dogs, you'll have fun watching them all play.
However, there are some a-holes that don't clean up after their dog (http://www.flickr.com/...). Case in point was that guy with his very cute bulldog, Bruno. He looked right at his dog as he pooped right in a high traffic area and didn't budge.
99% of the owners picked up after their dogs. However, when there are 300 dogs milling about... that means three big land mines for you. So, I give this guy the virtual Scarlett Letter.
On a sunny Sunday nothing can beat a lovely picnic in Dolores Park. Beautiful view, mixed kind of architecture can be seen from the hill - quite interesting and unusual for my European eyes. Don't forget to bring a soft blanket, I prefer to have some nice wine and enjoy the sunshine until lasts. Prepare to see and listen happy and crazy people and stories, and for a long queue to the public restroom. And watch out for missed flying footballs, even if you have a small head, you can be a potential target.
It's just straight up chill. And I love it.
Graze with your posse in the grass, smile in the Sun, BYOB.
