minus one star for not taking mastercard. wtf, m8!?
besides that basically anything that you could want is here and it's here for cheap!
a word to the wise: if you're buying perishable foods just make sure you look at the expiry date. I've never bought anything out of date here but some things are darn close.
Oh Dollar General, I love you so. My poor teacher self finds so many amazing things for my classroom. From markers to disinfectant, you help out a poor lady time and again. Also, I am amazed by how many name brand items I can find for super duper ridiculous cheap. Cake mix and frosting come to under three dollars total! Nuts!
I also appreciate being able to peruse the aisles and actually feel like I'm shopping. You know, as opposed to feeling like a mouse might run out at any moment. It's so nice to finally have a clean, well-stocked dollar store in the area.
Love, love, love the Dollar General and I don't care who knows it! I ended up here on Sunday when I tried to go to my neighborhood hardware store only to find it closes early on Sunday. This place has EVERYTHING.
Items in our bags by the end of the trip:
(2) humane "no-kill" mousetraps
(1) package Atomic Fireball candy
(1) package Bit O' Honey candy
(1) liquid measuring cup
(2) rolls of tape
(1) notebook of paper
Total: Under $10
This is my new go-to spot for laundry detergeant, a new laundry basket, old-time candy, paper goods, writing supplies - really anything I can think of and would normally travel to Target for (or to South Street Market across the street).
I even got a surly check-out! Now I know that doesn't sound exciting but after reading all the reviews I was excited to see that the place lived up to everything that was written here. Yay for yelper accuracy!
Have tons of stuff - from food to drug store products. Perfect for a grad student budget! They only accept cash or debit cards (no credit cards). Friendly staff and well organized store! Usually see a lot of locals and grad students there.
Here's why I ranked this so high. They have so many grocery needs that are twice as expensive across the street at South Square Mkt. I can't say much for the cleanliness. And some of the cashiers are grumpier than a starving pitbull, but this place really comes through in a pinch. Cereals and cleaning products and baking needs. Wow!
Where do you go when you need ginger snaps? Who needs ginger snaps? Well, I do...sometimes. And they're cheap here.
This place is where my roommate and I get just about everything from aluminum foil, jam to make hamantaschen, cake mix, cheap movie candy, my personal fave the utz cheese balls.
Eggs and milk are also tucked in the back corner and are cheaper than south square market.
Sure the cashier guy at the front is grumpy, but they just started having free candy at the check out to counterbalance his moods.
All your toilet paper, paper towel, peanut butter, motrin IB, skim milk, plastic wrap, trash bag, cheap skillet, kleenex con lotion needs are fulfilled here - and cheaply. They carry a lot of actual brands (not just your Kwality Toiley Paper-type stuff) and I noticed they're starting to carry eco-friendly products too.
I agree--best place in Fitler Square area for cheap, everyday products. Some items even $2 less than you would pay at a drugstore or grocery store. Pretty good selection of brand name and generic items. Great place to get your disposable items or cleaning products. Big selection of car cleaning products, as well.
