Pretty good food but it was so busy around graduation that service declined. On a normal night, I have heard, the service is quite good. My trout was somewhat over-salted, my friend's strip steak was a little cool. On other nights here food has been much better so I will give them the benefit of doubt.

Let's say you're a CU student (I was about 30 years ago) and your parents and grandparents are coming to town. Dolan's is the place to take them.
On our latest visit, even though we went early, Dolan's was packed with a crowd that was for Boulder wildly diverse, meaning old and young, families, hip couples out on dates, but more than anything else multi-generational groups where the age range was seemed close to three digits.
Every time I have eaten at Dolan's, which is once or twice a year, the food is good and the service is good. Good - not fantastic - but good like you can't complain. You especially can't complain if you go with a 2fer coupon that they send our a couple of times a year (oppps.... my cheap ass is showing), go during happy hour when stiff well martinis are $3.50.
During our last visit, the duck breast was tasty but the cherry sauce was less like a sauce and more like cherry compote - very simple flavor that was too chunky. My wife's pork chop was very good but the apple topping suffered from the same density as the cherry topping. The mashers that come with many of the entrees are great and the veggies on the side are also very good but sometimes not hot enough.
Anyway, good place to go for group event. No one will be offended, everyone will be comfortable with the menu and no one will complain. More than you can say about many joints in this town.
