I just don't get the fascination with this place. My husband absolutely loves it and suggests we stop here every time we're driving from NY to VA, occassionally I'll agree but I'm not as thrilled about it as he is. He raves about their Philly cheesesteaks and I'll admit they are pretty good, but other than that I wasn't too impressed.
For a place named the dog house, I was really disappointed in their hot dogs. I'll take Nathan's over them any day. The fries were okay, but again, I've had better.
The place itself is pretty interesting - the only seating is at a counter where you can watch them whip up these culinart delights. It can get pretty crowded and loud in there so I usually prefer to get ours to go, as messy as that can be. There is also a separate window that sells pizza, but it looked too suspect for me to try.
To be fair, I'd have to recommend it just for the experience. Everyone's tastes are different and as long as you're just looking for road food, this place isn't too bad. Of course, my husband would give it five stars, so I guess it just depends upon your taste - give it a try.
Located on Route 40 in New Castle Delaware this roadside dog house has been around for decades. Scores of couples have gone on countless first dates here. They make the best foot long hot dogs I have ever eaten. I like mine with Cheese and Onions. The grill area is a high volume custom home device that features a bun warmer. Check it out. The dogs are split in the middle and cooked. They move effortlessly down the assembly line and wrapped in newsprint paper. The fries have some seasoning that reminds me of old bay. The only seating is a row of 25 metal stools with round red tops. Generations of families still come here to eat. Expect to wait for a seat if it is busy. Call ahead if you want fast take out. Or just head in and watch the show. There is a method to there madness and it is a science. The folks there are all real nice and I have never had a bad meal. Our family stops there on the way to see our kin folks and on the way back.
