Yes, I like this place. I usually stop in here to buy my dog food before heading to work. The employees are always nice to chat up. I find that their clothing selection is kind of weak, but I did find a nice sweater the other day which made me happy! I think they may cater to the larger dogs which makes sense because of the area (wish I could have a big dog in my small apartment downtown!)
The prices are very reasonable and I keep coming back because of the friendly staff. They have really cute dog toys as well!
When I first brought my little Isabel home, this was the only store I frequented for all her toys, treats, and beds. Although, fairly pricey, I didn't care since Isabel was my little princess. I also used their Spa on a few occasions and found it very useful and convenient.
After a Christmas shopping spree at the store, I came back a few weeks later to exchange a faulty Puppia harness. My mistake was that I had misplaced the receipt. But again, I was only looking to EXCHANGE the harness and not RETURN it. I found that in speaking to the owner, she was very unbending. This actually shocked me, because in the several times I had previously spoken/ asked her for advice, (choosing my bedding, dog treats, special ordering collars, etc.) she was always very helpful and understanding. I understand that rules are rules. However, as a small business owner myself, I feel that there has to be a certain level of willingness to accommodate your customers so that they return.
In short, it has been 9 months since my boycott. I frequent another dog boutique about 3 miles further. Isabel still gets all her toys, treats, clothes, etc. Was a $30 exchange too much to ask?
My local dog place, so I'm glad I like it. The staff is always friendly and helpful and knows my dog by name. The self wash is very convenient and a good price.
Maybe I'm too conservative, but I really don't like the name, though...
Think these business owners/managers were absent the day they taught "customer service" in school. You would think pet supply stores would be smart enough to realize dog food is a repeat purchase. Instead, they fall back on their "strict policies" and lose potential long-term turnkey customers.
I bought dog food here only to learn my dog developed allergies to it...when I tried to return the unopened cans I was informed I needed the receipt. It was one week after I bought the food marked with their in-store coding (clear it was purchased there). Really? Really you won't take back unopened food one week later because it's against store policy without a receipt? I didn't even ask for a refund, just a simple exchange.
Not only are the staff unhelpful but the items are overpriced. The only reason they stay in business is there isn't competition in the neighborhood. Take your business to KRISERS - where they are not only extremely knowledgeable but have excellent customer service. Hmm maybe there's a reason Krisers business has developed into a chain?
what a name! lol
I have to say it's a great little shop. Has more then enough food to choose from and displayed so well! Friendly and helpful staff. I will be back often. Oh yeah toys are a good price I'm impressed.
Let me start off by saying kudos to the staff member who was very helpful with suggestions for a puppy who likes to chew his bed to bits. And also for info on the treats and which ones are best for smaller animals.
This place is cool because it has something for all pet owners from the cheapies like me to the richies who have money to burn. I like the selection of chew toys for dogs and the cute little treats they have in jars. Definitely a place to keep in mind when your puppy deserves something a little more special than the average pet store has to offer.
I have severe buyers remorse about this place.
I bought a doggy shirt from them when they first opened. The store was cute but it didn't stand out as offering anything that other pet boutiques
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they keep a ton of high quality dog food in stock. Prices are about average for what you get, maybe a dollar or two higher than Petco or Petsmart (if they even carry the brand at all) but I'd much rather spend my money at a small shop than a big faceless chain. Some really cool, creative dog toys for sale here, none of which I can give to my younger dog because he can destroy the toughest doggie chew toy in 15 minutes or less. The only brand he can't lay waste to immediately is the tougher grades of Kong, which DS doesn't carry.
I moved away from this neighborhood and still like Doggystyle better than any of the stores around here, so I make it a point to drive back to stock up on food once a month.
I have a bad habit of adopting pets with dietary restrictions. After asking the vet, feeding each of them regular 'pet store' food and getting horrible/smelly results, I decided to give Doggy Style a try. One by one my pets have returned to digestive normalcy. The ladies who work here have given me undivided attention while listening to all of my pet problems. They looked up the ingredients in my current pet food and gave me free samples of new food after explaining why they chose them. The prices aren't outrageous, and really reasonable if you buy in bulk.
Also, they have a store cat named Neil Patrick Harris. You can call him Doogie for short.
EASY in making my Top Ten list!
Not the largest store in the world but man, do they PACK IT IN!
Tons of treats, food, doggy fashion and TOYS TOYS TOYS...three freezers full of fresh yummy foods and treats too!
Awesome staff.
Doggy wash here too!
I LOVE this place! I love Doggy Style!
I just got a cat (I don't know what I was thinking...it needed a home and for some reason I felt bad) and I stopped here during that Do Division sidewalk sale. I was surprised at how much cheaper it was than Kriser's, and how much more cat stuff they had. Gris (that's my cat's name because he's all grey. Even his eyes are grey) loves the toys I got him from here.
The staff is very knowledgeable too. They informed me that I need to feed my cat wet food because it needs moisture and cats don't normally drink water. I told them I heard their teeth get bad from that and they aid give them this green paste and their mouth will stay clean. We shall see.
Definitely the best name for a dog store- automatic star for that. We've been to a lot of dog stores recently, and I have to say this one is pretty nice!
It's bright, spacious, organized, and clean- All of which we have not been finding in other dog groomer/ shops. The food selection was great, and they have room to sell way more than most stores we've been to.
I wish they had more toys, but for the small amount they have- it is a good variety. Damn, I spoil my dog way too much- someone stop me. Thanks to the staff for the "no pressure" approach, and giving our puppy treats!
Unlike Amanda B, I love the store AND the name. The hilarious thing is how it comes up under a different name on your bank statement (lest someone's spouse get suspicious??)
This place is great. It's not at all pretentious, unlike (believe it or not) a lot of the pet shops in town tend to be. I live a few blocks away, and my dog literally leads us there on every.single.walk. Why? Because the owner not only remembers his name, she remembers that he's allergic to most everything except venison and gives him a dried venison treat that (my quick math tells me) costs at least $1 each. I also started buying my pet food here. I was buying food from the vet but realized that it had more fillers than what Doggy Style sells, and the stuff from the vet is actually a bit more expensive. It's worked really well for my pooch.
My favorite thing about this place is that for about $16 I can wash my dog myself. i have a stand-up only shower which makes washing him close to impossible, and even if i could i get to avoid the leftover mess. They provide the rubber apron, brushes for pre-brushing, organic shampoo & conditioner (nice plus), perfect-height baths with built-in leash for the bath haters (my dog), and towels and a dryer for after... they also throw in in aromatherapy conditioning sprays. ridiculous, and yet i used it. my dog hates baths, but b/c he's sold by the treats they give him, he's not at all scared to go back in. au contraire mon frere.
in sum: ultra convenient for me and super friendly to both me and the dingo.
Sometimes when I head in to cute pet boutiques, I feel a lot of pressure to change my dog food. This is not the attitude I get here. Everyone in this store has always been so nice and friendly! I absolutely love it here (so does Ryno--he gets free treats when he visits!).
I came here specifically to give Ryno his first bath, and it went really well. I will be back here to bathe him as I love the staff, plus, I don't have to worry about cleaning my bathtub after! The store supplies everything--the tub, towels, face towels, shampoo and conditioner, "aromatherapy" after sprays and has a little puppy blow dryer too. If you're in to fooofy bows for your female pup, you can pick out your favorite from a big jar, and snap into your pup's hair!
We'll be back!
A year ago when I moved too far from Liz's Pet Shop to justify going there (I don't have a car), I was really worried about where I would get Eagle Pack. I looked on there website and found Doggy Style, just a block away from my new apartment!
It's a great place that always has interesting new treats and toys. The owners are very friendly and make a point that they recognize me and my dog, which I always feel is a sign that they actually appreciate your patronage!
***Warning/Disclaimer: This shop is pretty expensive. Why?? Because it's a "boutique" in an affluent neighborhood that sells unnecessary stuff to pet owners with extra $$ in their pockets and delusions in their minds! It is what it is and I love it. But, don't complain about the prices PLEASE...they are totally appropriate given the circumstances.
After searching the internet for a specific type of dog food, I saw that Doggy Style carried it, so I went to check it out. They have tons of different types of natural and organic good foods for pets and are very knowledgable about their stock. I was able to try a few different types to find out what really was the best for my dog.
They have a large selection of treats, toys, beds, and everything you could need for your dog or cat. All of it seems very healthy and good for animals.
The staff is really friendly and it seems like the customers are too--everyone knows each other. Thanks for giving me an alternative to chain pet stores.
Whenever I'm in the neighborhood and low on cat food, it's always a treat to come here. The owner is super-sweet and doesn't mind talking to you for ten minutes about girl-girl cat relationships or whatever weird thing you've got on your mind.
Some of their stuff is pricey, but if you're the type of person who is in the market for doggy raincoats you probably won't mind. And my (cat's) favorite food is cheaper here than it is at this one creepy Logan Square pet store. ("Cowboy cookout" flavor, could you die?!)
Their cat collar selection is great, too - I got Rufus this red gingham one that makes her look like an adorable Smuckers jar.
Half a point off for having to say "doggy style" when I'm recommending this place to my friends (rounded up).
Their dog wash, and frequent dog wash card, are unbeatable - what a deal! As an owner of a mastiff this place was a saving grace considering no pet places would even consider taking our Buckley for baths. So that alone gets them 5 stars. The staff is also in my opinion a 5 star group - extremely knowledgeable about products and pet services (the recommended several obedience classes and vets which was a major help).
And I love the name - too funny!
This is my favorite pet store. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. They didn't mind when my little angel accidentally knocked over some things.
They carry all the Tuff toys and adorable looking collars.
**Make sure you look in the freezers for some tasty bones for your pooch.**
The folks at Doggy Style are all about SERVICE, not sales. The staff is always willing to share their knowledge about products, even if they don't carry that particular item. Plus, they always offer to make a special order if they don't have the particular color or size you are looking for.
On a recent visit, I went in to inquire about a life preserver for my buoyancy challenged bulldog. Not only did the woman at the counter go online and provide me with the information on a vendor I could purchase from, she even went further to get a few reviews. Since the proportions of a bulldog make it challenging to find pieces that fit them correctly, she found a review from someone who bought the same product for their bully. With her referral, I found the right product.
Because of this, my dog and I will be going back again and again.
This is the place to find the perfect food for you and your pet. They have a nice leash, collar, toy, bowl and bed selection as well, but if you want to know about rotation diets, raw diets, and which food is best for your special pup, leash up your pooch and head on down to Doggy Style.
I have been here many, many times desperately seeking advice on pet food as I'm dealing with my first puppy and the joys of food allergies. I consider myself a researcher when it comes to evaluating products. I google, read reviews and compare expert opinions, and it's nice to be able to talk to the person selling you the product about your concerns and have them offer advice from experience. I challenge you to answer these questions, because I couldn't find the answer anywhere but Doggy Style!
What is the safest entertaining toy to leave with a chewing dog?
Are raw diets ok for puppies?
Is a harness better than a collar?
Does my dog need winter boots to protect him from salt?
Not only do the staff here remember my dog's name and gush over her when we come in to browse, but they take care of their human customers, too.
As this is my first winter in Chicago--and first with a pet--I didn't realize how important boots are for dogs, to protect them from Evil Burning Salt. After our puppy outgrew her first set of balloon-like rubber boots, I went back to get another. One of the employees there spent five or ten minutes helping me learn how to put them on properly (getting a puppy to stand still while you cram what are essentially paw condoms on all four of their limbs is not easy).
They have lots of treats and a good selection of pet beds, though we opted to order ours online to save on cost (as a boutique, their prices are a bit high).
This is a great place to get the attention you don't at PetSmart, PetCo and other box retail stores.
The people who work here are so nice- They obviously love dogs and really are just nice people.
my dog can not get enough of the frozen bones they have. And they are actually pretty cheap if you buy them in the bulk packs.
Most of the stuff they carry would get destroyed pretty quickly in my house, but that goes for all pet stores.
Your dog has to pee on tiny patches of grass. Give him a treat by bathing him at Doggy Style. Their ginormous, heavy aprons keep you dry while your dog cowers in a corner and then shakes its nasty dog water all over you when you turn your head. The aprons kind of made me feel like a butcher/serial killer, but with nice smelling shampoo in hand (that they provide, amongst other bath related items) instead of a bloody knife/hook.
Anyways, my dog kind of sucks about getting baths. He's 72 lbs of wuss, so he sheds like crazy and slips out of my grasp mid-bath. One of the employees came back to help (so nice) and did some slick move to hold him down so I could scrub him up. PLUS, she gave me, like, two weeks worth of food for him...made of shit like rabbit and bison and atlantic salmon or whatever. Dog loved me for those two weeks. He got a break from Kibbles 'n Bits Burgers 'n Cheese. JK I feed him better then that. Sort of.
Three stars for the name alone... how could I not frequent a store whose name references one of the greatest sexual positions of all time!?
Of course, it's stores like this one that make me wonder why I haven't started a business in this cash-cow of an industry. Fifteen bucks for a bag of salmon dog treats? Forty-five for that sexy little collar for Fifi? A bag of organic dog food for Trixie for the bargain price of twenty-five dollars per five-pound bag? Really? My dog licks her butt like the world will spontaneously combust if she stops... her tastes aren't that discerning.
But yeah, I guess I'll get a bag of those salmon dog treats -- oh, and the cat likes them more than the dog.
So I had to buy a present for a one-year-old puppy party!
Yes...I went to a doggie birthday party, and it was sooo much fun!
The hosts did it up BIG...dog cake, chocolate fondue fountain, wine bar made from the snow, fantastic food, doggie bags...
Okay back to my review, I wanted to buy a unique present for "Tanner" the Dachshund.
I walk into the store and the first thing that catches my eye...a tattoo-biker type jersey shirt...how cute...look at the tag...OH MY...$99.00...ummm..I don't think so (especially when I can't remember the last time I spent-if ever- $99.00 on a shirt for me!!
Still browsing...the clerk could not have been nicer or more helpful!!!
I told her where I was going, and she showed me several different items/suggestions with absolutely no hard-sales-pitch!
I ended up getting a beautiful selection of the funky and fun looking treats they have displayed in separate glass jars (like the old time penny candy stores) with some rawhide chews, that were made in America (bonus points).
The clerk (i wish i would've gotten her name she was so sweet)
wrapped them in a cute little box with tissue and a label. Perfect!!
Great place, good selection, prices from $2.00 to $200.00, excellent customer service!!!
P.S. Of course I had to get a separate bag of "cookies" for my four-legged kids waiting at home!
What do you do when you are stuffed to the gourd with food, full to the point where you can hardly move, it is over 100 degrees outside--- and you don't want to go home?
Well- there are plenty of options, but if you live your life like my friends and I do and like to spoil your pets, well, hitting up different pet stores is an option- and one we decided to take on this particular Sunday. We had never been IN Doggy Style- and well- were intrigued by the name. Mind you- if I were opening my own pet store- I would not choose this (mixing the thoughts of sex and animals is not my thing), but hey- I am not the proprietor.
They actually had a nice selection of LARGE dog collars- and some MEAN looking ones to toughen up my friends large- evil looking but incredibly goofy doberman. Great selection of foods, treats, and a different selection of dog beds than I am used to seeing. The toys were the same that I see everywhere in Chicago- nothing new here. However, the staff was friendly and knowledgable. The prices on the food were comparable to the other stores I have been in- treats and all!
Parking can be interesting but it is worth the challenge!
SO CUTE!
I love this store now! We took our puppy here just to say hi and I saw that they do pet washing. Ended up walking out with a $40 harness (ugh, but it fits her well and she can wear it for about 6 months) and some more information about dog washing.
I wouldn't come here to buy my dog food until she was full grown, but they had some cute toys, collars, and tons of dog treats. I want to come here again to look at all the stuff I missed!
Note to people thinking about opening a pet boutique, please please please stop it already with the over the top names! I get it it's cute, some people think it's fun..
Despite my issue with all the retarded cutesy pet store names this place has a really great selection. I feed my dog Nature's Variety and have been to about 5 or 6 little stores in the 'hood trying to find the one with the best price & selection. Prior to finding this place I was driving all the way up to Lakeview to Wigglyville and it just wasn't practical.
Nicely organized, prices and selection on foods, treats, some of the good hard to destroy toys (I'm always on the hunt since my pooch can pretty much kill any toy). Staff is really friendly and knowledgeable as well.
There are a lot of places doing the same exact thing but just not as well.
Pricier than PetSmart or Petco but it's much better quality stuff.
I don't have much experience, as I am just owning a dog for the first time. I went in curious about different dog food options because I heard brands available at the Pet Smarts of the world, are not exactly great choices. Anyway, the worker spent over 15 minutes with me giving the scoop on foods and what I should be looking for. She sent me away with several samples of foods for not only my dog, but also my parents dog. I love that I didn't need to spend a dime to get great service and she actually encouraged me not too spend money until I knew what the dog likes best.
I will most certainly be returning.
FINALLY! A pet store that carries high end dog food only steps from my home! I can't believe it took this long for a store to move in to the Division / Damen region - there are an incredible amount of dogs here.
Doggy Style was worth the wait. They have a large selection of foods, treats, colors, and toys - and the nicest self wash tubs I've seen anywhere. Get over there and check it out!
I have been here twice: once to shop, and today to take my dog in to use the self wash. The shopping experience was delightful. The owner of this place is very educated and knowledgeable about dogs and cats. I had a lot of questions about nutrition, because I am thinking about putting my dog on a raw food diet. He answered all of my questions, and even gave me a few free bags of the raw food diet for my dog to try.
Today, I took my dog in there to use the washing tubs. It was much better than washing him in my own bathtub, and they had just about every tool you would need to groom your dog. It cost $14, so I don't think I'll do that again, but it gave my back a break from his normal bathtub wash.
I like this place...stop in if you live in the neighborhood.
after spotland yard, we walked by this dog shop and i decided to in to see if this place had some tiny dog shoes for brother's girlfriend's miniature malpoo. and they did... itty bitty ones :) for $40 something they better be the best shoes Ammi will ever wear :D
this shop seems a bit more 'functional' over spotland yard. they have a big selection of special dog food and equipment as well as dog toys that aren't more novelty...
the dogs behind the counter were super happy chewing their bones.
i'm sure my dog, Maki (an alaskan klee kai), would like this shop too
So, based on first experience, I would give this place 1 star...but, I went back and I liked it!
My boyfriend took our pug here to get her nails cut. We called ahead. They were having a charity wash that day, but said if we came right away they would get her in. He gets there and the girl is like, "oh, a pug, they are notoriously bad with nail trims". She insisted that my boyfriend hold her. Our little one moved once and the girl freaked out and was like "I can't do this; you need to come back next week". So, he went to Petsmart and they did a great job right away.
This past weekend, on my quest for a new coat for the little one, I decided why not give it another try. I go in, without my pup and talk with a very nice associate. She was kind enough to pull up the measurements for my dogs harness in an attempt to find the right size coat. The coat ended up being too small, so I took the pup in this time and the same associate helped me try coats on to find a great fitting garment. My dog is very squirmy when you put her up on a table to dress her and this person was very helpful. She definitely made a customer out of me and I plan to return for Christmas gifts soon!
While the prices may be a bit steep, the customer service is outstanding. They recommended that I bring my dog in to help find the perfect coat for his first Chicago winter. I was initially morally opposed to dressing my dog, but after the first snow, he starting sneezing uncontrollably and shaking- he caught a nasty cold. Texas winters just don't compare.
When I finally brought Bucko in, the staff was incredibly patient and helpful--not at all pushy. They even advised that they deliver dog food for residents in close proximity. Now THAT is service!
Doggy Style has a beautiful selection of dog treats. They look like oreos, slices of pizza and bakery cookies.
Sometimes I want to try a bite when I am giving them to my dogs.
But I don't.
the service is amazing. they love dogs, welcome dogs, want to know about your dog, and give you good, honest advice.
my puppy just wasn't into the puppy food our breeder recommended, and it seemed like he had a touchy stomach, so doggy style gave me a sample of every simple food they had, and we worked through a trial period to find something he'd eat and digest well.
it's less stressful when your puppy is eating food, as opposed to not.
it's a small operation, and as such you'll pay more to be their customer, but for someone who's very conscious of value i do honestly think they deliver. i don't generally buy toys there, because a piece of old clothing makes my dog as happy as a $30 dog toy, but for the core needs, and for his food, i'm willing to pay a bit more.
i highly recommend...especially if you want some good advice about your dog.
This is a pretty small store, but the staff is extremely attentive and helpful. We were happy to find our premium dehydrated raw dog food by Honest Kitchen here. We are from CA where Honest Kitchen is and found not many stores carry Honest Kitchen out here in IL. The staff was very helpful in special ordering a bag for our cat as well.
Honest kitchen is great, but it is dehydrated raw food which tends to be a pain when you are boarding your dog or someone is looking after it. When I asked the staff for a recommendation for a somewhat equivalent premium dog food in the kibble form, they patiently told me the qualities and differences in all the brands they carry. In addition, I think I left with about $30 worth of free samples to see which one my dog preferred. Literally, I left with a huge bag of samples. I was very surprised and grateful. We will continue to purchase our premium dog food from them. Please note that Doggie Style only sells premium dog food and you won't find the crap they sell at petsmart or petco here that are filled with horrible fillers that make your dog's shit smell like dog shit.
I thought Doggy Style was a great place......... until a half block into my dog's first walk with her new collar. The collar broke and her back legs came within inches from being run over. I carried her back to the store crying and the associate was really nice. She tested the collar herself, admitted it was defective, and she refunded me for the collar and gave my dog a bunch of treats. BUT SHE PUT THE DEFECTIVE COLLAR BACK ON DISPLAY FOR SALE! Somewhere another dog is in danger because of her greedy and reckless actions.
Great place but a little pricey
