The weenies, the buns and the toppings are the tastiest in portland. Sometimes I drive through the drive thru- sometimes on a sunny day, sit out on the deck and enjoy a kosher with my dog. There were four other people and their dogs on the deck. I like that. There are pictures of dogs by the menu- i like that. The people making the hot dogs are nice- I like that too. I wish they had turkey dogs though.

A hot dog stand in the middle of a hippie grocery store parking lot. Fucking brilliant. Standing there eating an unhealthy mess of meat and sulfites while a bunch of smug, pretentious, "health nuts" are buying over-priced lentils and beans puts a smile on my face.
I like the dog house. I want a car 'air freshener' scented like the inside of this place. I'm sure it smells a lot better than the dirties shopping at wild oats.
In the time it took me to eat one chili dog I saw a trustafarian, an angry vegan lesbian, and a dirty bearded stoner gnome. Where else can you enjoy 'lips and ass' while watching various species of hippie in their natural habitat?

A bit of PTSS sets in whenever I roll into the lot surrounding the Dog House. Once, as JB and I pulled up to grab a quick bite before seeing a movie, I slammed the car door on my left index finger for what seemed like hours and howled much like the pooches whose photos grace the shack. So after racing home to clean up the mangled remains of my finger, it was a relief to drive back and tuck into a warm, condiment-heavy Smokey Joe (JB was nice and opened the door for me so I wouldn't make a mess of my other hand). In all honesty, I'm not a huge foodie and could eat sausages day after day as long as I'm given the idea of variety. But with veggie dog options as well as a daily special, this place has choices in spades. And if you order a dog between 5 and 7, you get a free soda.

I love hotdogs. I didn't for years and years and now I feel like I have to make up for it.
The Dog House is great.I love the vibe, the guy working was super nice, they have TWO veggie options (hot dogs and sausages), and they have meat brats cooked in beer.
I had the first option, which was basically just like the OG hotdog with cheese and onions. It was delicious.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that its sort of expensive for hot dogs, but again, well worth it.

Vegi hotdogs! Kosher hotdogs! and supposedly the best chili dogs in town (although I wouldn't know because I'm not a chili fan). Definitely worth a visit!
Bonus: the potato salad is delish!

Dog House rules!
Chili cheese? Yup. Brats? mmm hmmm. Oktoberfest styles sausages? You betcha. Regular ol footlong? Abso-frickin-lutely. Veggie dogs- no way?! It's true!!
Its a walk up situation, only a few tables outside which suck in this winter weather, but its quick, cheap and tasty. And once you choose your dog, there is like a million toppings to choose from. So grab it to go, run upstairs to your apt, turn on real housewives and enjoy.
The server was super nice and the prices are great. Two dogs, drinks, chips for 10 even. Can't beat that.

Hot doggity dog
How refreshing to find a stand that still serves hot dogs! To be honest, I haven't had a great dog in Portland other than at Costco until this place, which is pretty sad.
This joints is nestled in the parking lot of Wild Oats on 28th and Burnside, so don't go looking for it on its own. It rocks mostly because of its dog fix-ins, but what I love the most is that it has a drive-up and walk-up window! How cool is that? And on a sunny day, you can sit outside at one of their picnic tables. This place feels and tastes like summer. They offer a huge variety of all sorts of dogs but be aware, they often sell out the favorites early in the day.
Tip: Are you a vegetarian? They offer several good alternative meat options.

ok so i didn't have the chili dog. but the bf did and he loved it. its cute to sit and watch him debate on what he wants to eat next (and he doesn't usually feel that passionate about a hotdog or a sausage). From what i saw, the chili looks a million times better than what is offered at Pink's in Hollywood, CA. I guess it depends on what you like, the chili here is lighter with beans while Pink's is more of a glob of greasy meat thats too hard to swallow. Ok enough comparing the local with the hyped.
i had the chicago style veggie dog (yeah yeah i could've made it at home) but whatever it was delissh! the day my vegetarianism is over i'm coming back so they better be ready for me!
....but i wish they grilled the dogs = (.
