What is on the fries? Yummy.

Being a vegetarian I was not to excited to go the first time.  So many salads and choices for me.  Now, the hubby and I are there at least a couple times a week.  The salads are soooo good and affordable.  Around 6-7 bucks.  He likes to go and watch sports (I'm not a fan).  But, set a basket of fries in front of me and I'm good for at least an hour.  Everyone there is nice, efficient and quick to fix anything wrong on your order.

Got to agree with the others.  Parking does suck. So, minus 1 star for that.

(More so a 3.5 rating)

Fairly solid, consistent restaurant, although some may beg to differ.

There can be quite a bit to complain about this place, such as how fucking rowdy and annoyingly loud it is, although what do you expect -- it is next to Fresno State and has embodied the 'college crowd.'

Meaning, on any given night, especially weekends, you'll see a huge influx of fraternity douche bags (you know...the "dude-bro" types, etc...)

So if you can stand and tolerate that...you are good to go.

Another gripe is they don't do to-go or takeout orders. Supposedly, this is their policy because they are 'too busy' and apparently don't have time to take orders over the phone. like, 'i get it,' but ehhh....not really.

Also, the parking is horrendous. The place is PACKED nearly all the time, yet the parking lot seems like it's meant for a 7-11. Just ridiculous.

They also call out their orders through the loud speaker, having to fight over the noise of the big crowds -- you get the picture?

Now, onto some positives -- I DO give them a 3.5 rating afterall, mainly for the food.

For some, the environment in which I mention above may be a negative, but for others may be a huge positive. The sports environment is great if you are into it. They got a ton of flat screens plastered on every wall, with multiple sports playing. "Is this place good for big groups?" -- definitely.

This is not a place to take your gf for a romantic date -- you'll be single by the time you leave.

This is not a place to take your 80 year old grandmother.

This is not a place to take a long lost friend you need to play 'catch up' with.

This is NOT a place for talking, but more so entertainment and food, period.

This IS a sports bar / restaurant in its true essence.

Meaning it embodies the following: Loud, obnoxious, sports, food, beer, shitty service -- period.

Don't come here expecting anything other than the above, or you WILL be disappointed.

If you want to watch a big sporting event with a good, loud crowd -- this is the place.

Now, the food...

It's good, solid, BBQ.

NOT THE BEST, I never said that (just clarifying to BBQ purists and snobs)...

but its good, at least I think so, and a majority of people do as well.

The tri-tip and pork ribs are definitely solid in my book, although the sauce they have is too sweet. So whatever you do, I would definitely order it on the SIDE.

The fries are good too, although some people claim they are the second coming, i think they are GOOD but not THAT good. Get a hold of yourselves Fresno -- you guys freakin overreact with awe over anything with seasoning.

The burgers are pretty solid as well.

Don't order the pig (pork) sandwich, it's pretty lackluster to me -- plus it's drenched in their sweet sauce I was just complaining about above. It's nothing but pork, sweetness, and carbs. Period.

Anyways, this place is solid, and I know I can come here to have a good, decent meal most every time.

Worth a try.

I used to come here a bit for lunch.

Some good food (my favorite is the "Craiger" sandwich) and decent location.

It's a very casual place, and some of the time it's almost impossible to find parking or a place to sit.

I'm not a huge fan of the atmosphere and crowd, but it's alright on occasion.

The first time visitor will be diappointed to find that it is not a full service restaurant and the menu (both from the kitchen and the bar) is extremely limited. This after having had the good fortune of finding an impossible to find parking spot in a lot no bigger than a picnic blanket.

One you get past the disappointment of these initial letdowns, the Dog House Grill delivers the goods. The menu is small, but what it does, it does well.

The ingredients are fresh and the burgers are cooked to perfection. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich unhesitatingly. It is the class of the house.

Still somewhat befuddled by the notion that this place that screams "barbecue joint" doesn't really dazzle you with their barbecue. It's decent, but this is Fresno, man. Should be way better.

Bonus points for the numerous TV screens, but why are the games that they show always duds? And why is the volume always off?

I've been trying to call this place for the last 15 minutes to find out if they'll be showing the Pacquiao fight tonight, but nobody can be bothered to pick up the phone. The line even went busy a few times, only to go back to blowing the phone off the hook again with nobody answering. In contrast, I just called World Sports Cafe, and after their automated answering machine transferred me to a host, they picked up on the first ring. Same with Me-N-Ed's Victory Grill, minus the machine. Down goes a star.

The best in Fresno. It's the only thing I miss about living in Fresno! Tri-tip sandwiches are the best with grilled onions! The fries are the next big thing. Everything on menu is delicious, especially the chicken meal with the beans and garlic bread. It's affordable and the staff is good. Plus, the food is great!

My recent visit here, I got the quarter bbq chicken and it was sooooooooo good! My new favorite! Better than the salmon sandwich! The beans are good, more than just beans, they're like chili! The garlic bread is good, but man the bbq sauce on the chicken is yummy and the chicken is so moist and tender!

it was my first time here to meet up with several friends.  My friend ordered me a Tri-tip BBQ sandwich and I was pleasantly surprise.  I love BBQ and I am quite picky about my tri-tip and BBQ sauce.  The portion size was big.  The sandwich was absolutely delicious.  There were plenty of meat and BBQ sauce placed inside a soft roll.  I did not get to stay too long because their bar was closing for the night and my friends had to run.  I definitely have to come back again to try out other things on their menu.

Way better than what I had imagined. I pictured, high priced food,  Carl's Jr quality, mixed with young rowdy regulars.

It was quite the opposite! The prices were very fair, the portions are HUGE and the taste was really good! I had the chicken sandwich, and was pleasantly surprised that it said it came with sprouts. I love sprouts, you just never see them in sandwiches/burgers anymore. I did have a bite of hubby's tri tip sandwich, and yes it was super yummy! There is a lot of meat in that sandwich! The basket of fries can be shared with 4 people.

It had a very eclectic crowd, young, old, families. Very nice mix of people.

Happy hour Monday-Wednesday. 1/2 off drafts. (and they have blue moon) Yeah!!

I love their burgers, and the fries, I swear are sprinkled with crack. SO addictive. The ribs fall off the bone and the bbq sauce is muy muy tasty.
The big tvs all over the place are cool if you like sports, too. And they have lots of different sports playing, not just one or two things.
Only complaint is when it gets busy, the service suffers. Some of the servers are stellar, others obviously don't care if you are not a table of hot young chicks (or dudes), if you are a family they tend to not be as attentive.

I went to Dogg House Grill yesterday for lunch.  I ordered the ABC burger and I was very happy.
The plus' of the restaurant:
Very friendly front staff, waiters/waitresses
Great food (bacon and meat were cooked pefectly)
Excellent sides (fries were yummy but had a ton of season salt so becareful)
Decently clean establishment
Lots of nice TV's to watch and people to watch too.
It's a lot of food so you may be taking some home with you.

Negatives:
Too many people and it is difficult to find a seat.
Parking stinks and you have to Valet or go across the street.
it is amazingly loud in there.
Food takes time, not the place you want to go if your in any kind of hurry.
it's a lot of food and for light eaters it may be way too much.

That is about all I have right now.  They also have a nice bar and good service there too.  Enjoy!

Huge portions, great tasty food.  Highlights would be ABC burger, seasoned fries and anything with their tri tip.

Unfortunately, due to the fresh grilling, when you leave Dog House Grill, you smell like Dog House Grill.

Tri-Tip Sandwich!  Thats all there is to say!  Its the best sandwich there is, especially in Fresno!
It gets 3 stars though because:
A.) it can be a bit pricey
B.) Parking can be a pain (but I went recently and they had valet, not sure if thats everyday or was just during busy hours)
C.) Seating can be about as big a pain as getting a parking spot.

But if you're looking for a little something different and youre 'stuck' in Fresno, this place is definitely a good shot....Tri-Tip Sandwich!

The Doghouse Grill is ok...  The food is real tasty, but the place is frequently so crowded there isn't even room to stand and eat, let alone find a place to sit or try to have a nice conversastion.

I try hard to limit how much I eat there because the food is way too greasy.

I've been to the Main Street Grill and Firestone Grill, so when I first ate here I expected the same quality and noise level and wasn't let down.

So you can't park right in front and you have to put up with numbers being yelled out and people walking around trying to find a seat...but you can get some of the best tri-tip, grilled chicken, pulled pork, and french fries.  My favorite combo is splitting a half basket of fries, my own small tri-tip cobb salad, and a dos equis amber or two.

Tri Tip, Tri Tip, Tri Tip!

Thats all you need to know.
Yes, their ribs are finger-lickin good but after a bad experience with a lip ring and an over-zealous appetite, I have renounced the meal for the belle of the ball- the tri tip sandwich.

It is absolutely delicious and I have yet to meet someone who doesn't love the tender meat, soft bread, and tangy, warm bbq sauce.

To make it a full meal, add the seasoned french fries, grab a beer and enjoy with either a group of friends or a single companion. The plates are sloppy, face-covering messes so be sure to skip this location on a first date. And, unless you like big crowds and loud tvs, order to go and enjoy in the privacy of your own home where you can really dig in without becoming self-conscious about whats in your teeth (or your hair)!

Tri Tip sandwich is the way to go.  One of a kind located just across the street from the Save-Mart center.  The ribs are huge and there is a large bar, although rather pricey. Try the large plate of crispy fries as well when you visit this place "at least once."

Will be going back.

Sometimes a little to busy for my taste.  Loud.

Great BBQ and drinks here. It's right across from the Savemart Center... and down the street from the mall. Which means I undoubtedly end up eating here when I'm dragged to either place -- and this usually means it's going to be the highlight of my evening. It's got a full bar now also, which means I can get loaded before I go Christmas shopping.

Two Words for ya: Pork Ribs. Seriously, I can't see why Muslim's done eat swine -- it's friggin' delicious. Sorry, back to the point. Their pork rib dinner plate may just be my favorite dish in Fresno for the money. And that's a lofty review considering I eat out ALOT.

The Tri-tip sandwiches and Pig sandwiches here are good. Order either sandwich with a friend and order a side of fries it will be plenty of food. It is loud so don't expect a relaxing dinner. It is next to a college so expect a college scene.

They have a bar but I wouldn't count this as a "night life" option for Fresno people. Maybe it is a nice pregame option. (Their AMF's are really strong).

Coming from Seattle (or likely any city) to Fresno, one is unable to avoid the love this city has for the ever sacred Tri-Tip. While I was aware that it was some sort of cow meat, my wife was clueless! One night, some friends of ours invited us to their "favorite" restaurant in Fresno: The Doghouse Grill. Upon arrival, I was somewhat surprised to see how packed this place was... on a Monday night. Clearly, being located directly across from Fresno State and the Save Mart Center helps, but how about the food? I was convinced to give the classic Tri-Tip sandwich a try...

We have since been to The Doghouse Grill more times than I can count. In fact, the friends we originally went with have moved out of town, and we have gone back every time they visit. This is seriously some of the best cooked beef, certainly the BEST tri-tip, my tongue has ever had the pleasure of tasting! And they have a rather nice bar and too many ESPN-playing big TVs to count. I have since tried the salad with tri-tip ends (have no clue what those are, but they're good), which is very, very good as well. And the fries, while not being "the best," definitely go well with everything else.

Give this place a go, you won't regret it!

It is true....this place is just like Firestone Grill in SLO....and more importantly just like the tri tip sandwich that I fell in love back in SLO.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....excuse me...let me wipe up this drool.....ok, where was I.

Kind of the typical set up of ordering your food and waiting to be called. The venue was large and nice...nicer than Firestone's. Kind of had a bbq meet, meets sports bar, meets club.....kind of trendy I suppose. But I didn't go there to watch sports, dance, or anything like that..I was simply there to stuff my face in bovine goodness. And that bbq sauce is laced with crack. hmmmmmmmmmmm

word of caution....whatever you do....try to get a table because when the lunch bell is a ringin' the people come a runnin'....and trust me you that you don't want to sit outside in the abysmal heat while trying to enjoy your food.

and ...... the portions are rather big so don't order the meat, chicken tenders, side of fries, and basket of onion rings unless your dying from hunger.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Given that this is essentially the same restaurant as Firestone's Grill in SLO (my alma mater), I already knew what to expect...and they did not fail :)

The tri-tip sandwiches are STILL awesome (even though I've seen the increase in price throughout the years...~$10 for a sandwich is getting kind of steep). However, if you really want to go over-the-top, I would suggest getting their Monster Burger. That thing will keep you on your seat for a good half an hour after you're done with it. Can't go wrong with the basket of fries either (although you may want to have one or two people with you to finish it all).

There are TV's everywhere, so you'll be able to catch your favorite sport/team wherever you sit. I haven't tried out their selection at the bar, but from what i could see they offer pretty much anything you can think of.

The only knock I have (which is probably the same thing that everybody else has been saying) is that when it gets packed, there's literally nowhere to sit and eat. Firestone's in SLO recently rearranged their layout so that there would be more seats both inside and outside. I know that it's probably near impossible to mess around with the layout at Doghouse Grill, but there have been a few times where the lack of parking coupled with the mass of people made me want to look elsewhere for food.

Other than that, everything else about Doghouse Grill is exactly like how I remembered at Firestone's in SLO. It's like a little piece of the SLO life followed me back to Fresno :)

Everyone raves about the tri-tip.  Rightfully so.  But don't be afraid to try The chicken breast sandwichs, tacos, salads and fries too.  They are all great.  The portions are large and the prices are good.  The fries are HUGE.  One basket usually feeds a hungry table of 4, with fries left over.

I would give it a 5 but it is so difficult to get a seat in the bar area at lunch.  All the people trolling for a table can get annoying.  The parking can be equally frustruating.  The bar, food and tv's make it worth it though.

Ugh. Okay, I guess I can review Dog House. This place is definitely overrated. Hot dogs? More like Slim Jims. But the only reason why I'd give them stars anyway is for their seasoned fries and tri-tip sandwiches.  Other than that, a lot of my friends don't seem to mind the loud atmosphere, or the fact that you can't seem to find a place to sit when it gets really crowded. And did I mention parking sucks?!!?!?!?!

A colleague stated that this place has the best fries in Fresno, so a group of us made the trek here for lunch. This is a large space, with half the tables slated for table service and the other half for those who order at the counter. The parking lot was filled as we approached a little after noon, so I thought we might not get a table. The lot across the street worked, and so did sitting in the counter section.

The tri-tip sandwich was about $10, which seemed a buck or two too steep for lunch, so I had the "Pig Sandwich." That's a pulled pork sandwich with a slightly sweet tomato-based barbeque sauce. The sandwich was tasty, though messy. It would have been nice to have had some sort of complement on the sandwich like pickles or slaw or grilled onions to cut the sweetness of the sauce, but I'm not complaining. As I ordered, I saw racks of store-bought rolls for sandwiches, so I wasn't surprised that the bread was a shade away from Wonder Bread.

My friend ordered the basket of fries, and there were too many fries for four people. The Doghouse Grill adheres to the skinny fries school, with a shake of seasoning to make things interesting. I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. The onion rings looked better (and bigger) than they tasted.

During lunch hours this place gets so crowded and noisy that you have a hard time hearing the person sitting across from you. I'd imagine it's a great place to watch sports if you're a Fresno State fan or a college student. I'm not sure it will make it into my lunch rotation though.

It was decent. Nothing too special bout the place.  Its good for group outings, so thats definitely a plus.  Plus it's located right across the street of Save Mart Center (thanks Janet lol)  as well as Fresno Sate so it gets busy at times.  The food wasn't superb or else it would have left a mark on my memory bank.

This restaurant falls victim of not knowing your audience.  I love BBQ tri tip because of the charcoalled outside of the meat.  That cancerous stuff makes it taste so good!  The meat at Dog didn't have this magical char and I was very disappointed.  The tri tip was also very tender, which was surprisingly a bad thing.  The meat was TOO tender.  I know  you think I'm crazy, but couple the tender meat with a tender french roll and you have a tender on tender meal.  It's like tri tip for babies.

Now, the tenderness would have been a welcomed texture for a steak or anything at a 4 star restaurant, but not for my tri tip sandwich.  Sorry but I will not be returning to this locally loved place.
