When the Furry Beastro closed we scrambled to find a new place to have our two puppies groomed. We are very against having our dogs wait in cages to be cut and wanted a place that provided upscale service. We looked into several places before choosing Dog-A-Holics. Dog-A-Holics has been nothing but friendly and accommodating. Our dogs get to hang out at the front desk while waiting for their trim and we don't feel anxious or nervous about leaving them there. Their groomer, Ben, has many years of experience and always gives our little guys amazing cuts that last a long time. He's quick too and our dogs are done within the hour and we can pick them up right away. Plus, the store has the cutest items. I know the retail shop is expensive, but isn't your pup worth it?!

If you're willing to drop about three hundred bucks on Chanel inspired doggie-wear, this place is for you. You can really pimp your furry friend out at Dog-A-Holics, and I'm not gonna lie, I had a lot of fun here.
We took our Lola in here during her first stroll on Armitage and it really was the best, cutest pet store I've ever been to. The only down side is that it's ridiculously expensive. They had so many cute collars and leashes and travel doggie dishes and treats and doggie shoes and outfits, that I could have spent a grand if I'd had it. But sadly, I don't, so we shop at Petco for doggie attire.
But the employees here were really nice, and offered Lola little doggie treats, and they were really knowledgeable about their products. You could tell they were dog people. I thought they had more to choose from than Barker and Meowsky.
We'll probably be back to get Lola her spring Cubbies gear, but after that, it'll probably be a strictly window-shopping experience (like when mommy goes to the Nordstrom shoe department) ... unless we strike gold or something.
This is such a cute pet store. The staff is wonderful and friendly. I would love to get cute leashes and collars here for my pups but can't quite muster up the cash for those items. However the toys here are really quite competitive, a little on the pricier side but they hold up. My dogs love stuffed animal type toys but the always shred the ones from Petco within days- the ones we got here lasted almost a year so the extra dollar or two was well spent. We have used the grooming service for nail trims and they were very professional and quick even though we didn't have an appointment.
The best part of coming here though is that our dogs simply love it. They know when we get within a block and start walking with a purpose. When we approach the stairs down to the door they bolt for that door to make sure they get to go in! The love sniffing around and getting treats from the staff.
There are a lot of novelty pet products here and it is fun to look. But the toys, treats, and grooming is completely reasonable. It is a great addition to Armitage.
I love Dog-a-holics! I would give it 5 stars if it weren't so darn expensive! Riley and I have always been welcome...he LOVES all the staff (because they pet him, talk to him, oh...and give him treats!)
I like when a staff is knowledgable about their products (especially helpful when you have questions about treats and food items) and while I have been in there when the previously mentioned blond was on the phone (apparently she should have that thing removed from her ear!) and left without buying anything...but when I was in the last time, I was happy to have a younger brunette stop labelling product to explain the differences between several brands. She even went through the new stock to find the flavor of cookies I was looking for (since they were out of it on the shelf).
I also like that they have a wide variety of items you won't see at a chain. Many are too girly or snobby for me to buy for my Boxer...but they do have a nice selection for "guy dogs" too.
I got Riley a super fun shirt and tie to wear for Christmas! It was HILARIOUS and everyone that got the cards wanted to know where I found a shirt and tie for a Boxer!
Please keep up the good work!! Customer service is key for a small business like Dog-a-Holics! :)
While I've never bought anything from this place, I've been with people who have gone nut-so for their pups here! Prices are fairly competitive, and I've never felt that anything has been blatantly over priced. My sister found a really cute Camo dog toy for her two big dogs (we're talking German Shep Mix, and Pit Mix) here, and it has held up surprisingly well!
The store also has a really cute doggie "bakery" where the worker had told us that he's "tried" some of the treats (he informed us that it's all human-grade foods such as flour, eggs, etc.). My sister picked up a cute cookie in the shape of a shoe that said "Jimmy Chew" on it!
If I ever buy a pup, or want to spoil Cody, I'll have to stop by here to pick up a cute, unique treat!

I had a wonderful experience at this store this past weekend.
I've been looking for healthiest diet possible for my dog on my budget.
I called there on Friday to check the inventory of a certain brand of food I was thinking of trying with my new dog. The woman on the phone was pleasant and helpful--they didn't carry the brand anymore, but she was able to find some remaining bags from their last order that were still fresh. She even offered me a discount on the bags.
When I went to the store on Sunday to pick up one of the bags, the man who was working at the time was very helpful. I asked so many questions (some of them probably twice) and he suggested a lot of constructive ways to find out which is the right diet for us. He even printed a packet of information on dog nutrition that he received from an event he attended.
The products did seem a bit pricey (although I'm new to this whole dog thing so I could be wrong) and I usually shop around to find the best deals, but I don't mind paying a little extra once in a while to support a store that offers such great service.
Cute little store. Was in the neighborhood with my mom and sister and stopped in. Lady behind the counter was nice but she never came out to help us and spent most of the time on the phone, her CELL phone. The store was neat but cramped a little too much for me. Also I think they might be a little expensive compared to my neighborhood store (Wiggleyville) but it is Lincoln Park after all!

I used to live in Lincoln Park and was horrified at how much everything cost. So much so, that even though I am a dog owner, I wouldn't go into these stores b/c I would leave half my wallet behind for two minutes of doggie happiness. Which I can get for free by just loving on my doggies.
After we adopted #2, I went in looking for a matching collar. I had to wait forevers to speak to a sales person and was quoted a very high price for a leather collar. I told the sales person that I would think about it. Yea, Scratch and Sniff in Forest Park ordered me the same collar for almost half the price.

I came across this store on a Sunday afternoon with some friends after shopping at Sam & Willy (Paulina). I think the prices and selection are better here. I bought a new collar and matching leash and some doggie bag refills.
The staff was nice, helpful and they also have a groomer available 7 days a week (prices seem quite reasonable for typical Chicago groomers).
GROOMING: I recently made a grooming appointment here with the on-site groomer. And I was very satisifed with the experience: made the appointment 2 days before with a flexible scheduling, took about 2 hours, a very thorough job, and attentive staff! Only down side is the lack of parking in the area...but if you have them hold your credit card on file, they will run your pup out to you. Now that's curbside service.

The place was a little cramped and looking for parking on a Saturday afternoon was horrible. My boyfriend and I just parked on a 15 minute spot and turned on the car hazards so that we wouldn't get ticketed. The inside of the place was cute but there was too many people and it was impossible not too bump into someone or something. My dog Kylie, however, loved the treats that they gave to her for free. We also bought Kylie a pair of boots which she has grown accustomed to. They were pretty expensive but they are practical specially in the winter. I think we'll get good mileage out of them, same goes for the Royalty sweater that we got her. All in all, we spent a good amount of money for Kylie on her clothes, organic dye safe non-salivant toy and getting her groomed there. The groomer was really attentive on how we wanted her cut to be and the cut on her was great! Even when the staff was busy they were very helpful with helping us choose a pair of boots for Kylie. I genuinely believe the associates cared for the dogs there. Even though the place is pretty expensive, getting to spoil my baby during X-mas was worth it.

As far as I'm concerned, Dog-a-holics is a great store with a creative marketing plan. They understand that the act (or should I say art) of shopping on Armitage is and always should be an "event" for the locals and the tourists. This store gets that concept and has fun with it. The products they carry are unusual, stylish and, in a few cases, highly irreverant. That's why Dogaholics appears to be so successful--it's not an ordinary pet supply store.
As for the issue of offering a $5 in-store credit as a special gift for writing a positive review -- I'm a bit surprised by the two earlier negative responses. (It kind of makes me wonder if these so-called "customers" aren't actually "competitors" and, if so, maybe they should focus their energies on their own marketing efforts.)
I think the Dog-a-holics marketing campaign is a great idea! It's certainly not out of the ordinary for a business to offer an incentive to customers if they take 5-10 minutes of their valuable time to write a review.
When I have a bad experience with a store, my irritation is motivation enough for me to lodge some sort of complaint. The reverse is not always true. When I have a good experience I don't usually take the time to write a note of appreciaton for exceptional service, I take it for granted. That's probably the gist of this $5 promotion.
I'm looking forward to spending my $5 credit ASAP even though my time is worth much more. Thanks and Good Luck Dogaholics!
I don't know much about any other Chicago dog boutiques, but I'm convinced every true dog lover will enjoy this one. It's simply fun, fun, fun! It's worth the trip to Lincoln Park just for the entertainment factor. They have a great selection of dog beds, dog clothes, dog costumes, unique collars and leashes, beautifully decorated treats, organic food, and many gift items for dogs and humans. (You can even shop Dogaholics on the web at: www.dog-a-holics.com.)
The best part of shopping at Dog-a-holics was seeing all the different breeds of dogs that came in for treats and grooming while I was there. I think every dog owner within a five-mile radius must have shopped there that day -- and the staff seemed to know them all by name (the dogs, that is). Clearly, I wasn't the only one enjoying the experience!
I can say with certainty I will be a repeat Dog-a-holics customer. I may even admit I am a dogaholic.
This is a cute store, but unless your dog likes really expensive toys and collars, you can stay away.
I stumbled in on my way to 1154 Lill (upstairs) and I thought that I would buy my dog a couple of their bakery items. The selection was pretty good but it was really pricy. I ended up buying a couple of treats, which my dog loved, but I won't make this a regular pit stop because of the price.

Lets Set the Record Straight. Owner Candace has now resorted to outright BUYING YELP Reviews. Her latest email in early September 2007 promises that "we'll give you a $5.00 Store Credit for each POSITIVE review!".
I'm a pet owner here in this wonderful city and I am committed to great food and supplies for my dog. Vote buying in Chicago may be a notorious story, but pet owners should be tired of getting spin and lies, from anyone associated with our pet's wellbeing. Remember those pet food manufacturers attempting to peddle their food products that were contaminated, and then while pets were dying delayed recalls and used fingerpointing and denial about their responsibilities.
This one star may only earn me $1 from the store and not the $5 that she promised to yelpers who would give a positive spin.

I don't know if new stores for dogs are just popping up all over the city or if I never noticed them before because I didn't have a dog until this past summer. I do know Dog-a-holics has only been open for a few months now and has been warmly welcomed by the Lincoln Park neighborhood, especially judging by all the people buying goodies for their pups in there today!
The staff is friendly and willing to help. They have so many cute sweaters for doggies and it looks like some of them even come in large sizes- whoo hoo. The little bakery area looked good enough to eat and then I remembered it was for dogs. Definitely worth checking out if you are a dog-a-holic!

I was driving down Armitage today on my way somewhere and went by Dog-A-Holics, so I decided to stop in, there was a spot right out front! While opening the door I was immediately greeted by a lovely little beagle, who apparently thought my pants smelled very good! He helped me shop around while I was in there!
Both employees working were very kind, and asked how I was doing and if they could help me find anything, without being overly pushy! The store was very organized and incredibly clean, considering dogs are in and out all day long. As I was browsing nothing really caught my eye, then I found it, the PERFECT item for my pooch. A green shirt that says "Hugs not Drugs". I loved it, however their size Large could fit my butch little girls head, maybe. So I asked the girl behind the counter if she had one any larger, and explained my dog to her. She said they come in XXL and that she would see if they had it. When this location didn't, she called the other to see if it was there. No luck. She offered to order it for me, which I was very happy about, seeing that I LOVED this shirt. She pulled out other XXL's for me to look at and checked the size in inches so that we could make sure it would fit my "little" one. When we verified the size, she went to filling out the order sheet! and my shirt is now ordered and should be here soon (the price was incredibly reasonable considering what I was getting and where I was!) I cant wait for it to get in! I am very happy with the work this employee went through to find a shirt to fit my girl. Overall I had a great experience and will be back to buy more clothing very soon!!!
*UPDATE*
I got the shirt and its PERFECT, the fit and everything. We could not be happier! Especially my girl, she loves it!!

The store is small but I've had a lot of luck finding just what I was looking for here. Prices are similar to other pet boutiques I have visited. I have purchased treats, collars, disposable boots, and id tags here. Friendly staff.

One word: AMAZING! The girl that was there was so helpful, giving us tips on what's hot and what everyone loves for their own dogs. There is a huge variety of yummies (specifically the chicken pot pie yummies!), raw hides, and ICE cream!!! My boyfriend was so reluctant in going in here because of previous experience with other shops like this--but this place restored his confidence in the doggy boutiques! Prices were decent and service was great!!!

I can't say enough goo things about Dog-a-Holics. I have purchased things in the boutique and from the treat counter and used the self-wash services in the back (so much nicer than trying to wash my puppy in the bath tub at home). The staff is exceptionally friendly (both to me and my puppy) and very helpful. They have special ordered my puppy's food, and when I had a problem with a toy I purchased there, they took it back no questions asked. I would definitely recommend Dog-a-Holics.

cramped! but cute. we mainly just go here to get my miniature dachshund's nails clipped. it's cheaper and better than petsmart. also a great place to get high-end dog food and treats. they are all pretty comparably priced and most of the stuff is cheaper than at barker and meowsky. red dog house is still my #1, though.

This is a great place with really cute clothes, treats and toys for dogs. I wanted to bring my dog Joey on his birthday, but it was a really cold day, so I went there the next day. They gave me a birthday bag with samples of their treats....so nice. Joey looooooved the dried jerky! Next time I'll bring him back with me and pick up more treats.

In search for the perfect holiday collar for Lucy, I stopped in Dog-a-holics today. They didn't have a huge choice of holiday collars, but they did have a large and very cute selection of other collars, toys and treats. And if your dog is well-behaved enough to wear a bandana, they had a great selection of holiday bandanas. However, I did walk out of there with a candy cane collar and a bone that says "naughty", which is perfect for Lucy.
I didn't have the four-legged lady with me today, so it was easy shopping. If she had joined it would have been very difficult to shop because the store is a small boutique, and well Lucy isn't very lady like, especially in tight quarters.
Overall, it was a nice shop and the ladies working were very nice and helpful!

This is a wonderful store and a great addition to Armitage Ave. Candace the owner is so friendly and so is her staff....She even has a fenced in courtyard for puppy play time- you can rent it out for parties and playdates. There is a great goodie case of baked treats and trust me they are good- doggie and people good. Cute clothes, leashes and design your own dog bed too!!!!!!! Lots of space for you and your pooch to wander around- good food choices - She carries Artemis which is hard to find. I can say I have become a DOG-A-HOLIC.

I have gone to Dog-A-Holics since they have opened for dog food, and was pleasantly suprised to find that they had grooming. Dog-A-Holics managed to find one of the best groomers in Lincoln Park! I have known Ben for over 11 years and brought many dogs to him, he has always done a great job. All the animals love him, Ben treats each dog with respect and care, never leaving a dog on the grooming table alone. After Ben left another establishment and I lost contact with him, I tried other groomers but my dogs were not happy to return to these groomers. I would totally recommend Ben as a groomer, he does a excellent job, he is quick, and reasonably priced.
I love their website.
I havent had the pleasure of being able to see their new store though.
My son was just born and i havent had time to really do much.
but ive seen them at almost every event doggy related which I LOVE!
im a totall -DOG-A-OLIC!

Such a great store! Tons of cute dog stuff including a huge variety of leashes and seasonal items (for example, right now they have a whole huge rack of St. Patrick's day accessories for dogs). I bought a toy for my little pooch and it was a good price considering it came from a dog boutique in lincoln park (under $5!). I also purchased a dog cupcake hoping my dog would eat it (she's a picky eater) and she gobbled it up in record time. I can't wait for it to get warm out so I can see the courtyard.
The absolute cutest store I've seen so far! In this neighborhood it's nice to see a place that isn't as froo froo, the staff warmly welcomes big 'ole dogs, mutts, and everything in between. And you can tell they really love dogs, they even know my dog by name, which is great! The groomer is amazing! I STRONGLY recommend this place, it's such a cute store! Also, they have a courtyard out back so you can play with your dog off leash. I really addmire how they are all about dogs, not all about image--GREAT STORE!

I stumbled upon this place because I was headed upstairs to 1154 Lill. I saw an item that I thought would be a good Christmas gift for one of my doggy friends. 10 days before Christmas I went in to buy it and they were out. The girl behind the counter was friendly and said she would ask the owner when she expected another shipment and the owner would call me to tell me. Cool! She wrote down all my info in a big binder for the owner to get back to me. I never heard a damn thing! 3 days before Christmas and just hours before I was heading out of town, I popped back in because I was going to pick up my Lill bag. Well, the shipment came in because the item I wanted was there. I bought it and left.
This is a cute store and if I still had a dog I could see myself spoiling him there, but I'm only giving it 2 stars because they didn't follow up with me even though my info was in the official call log binder.

COULDNT GET ANY BETTER! This store opened just after I got my first dog a Mini-Doxie. When I walked into this store I was quickly greeted and Candace the owner quickly made me a friend. Not only do I religiously shop there for my dog...the owner knows exactly who I am and what I am interested in. She truly wants to help you find the perfect gift or the coolest thing in the dog world each time you are in there. Candace is VERY knowledgeable and friendly. She has this store becuase she is passionate about doggies and you can tell! She ALWAYS know the latest, greatest and always is looking for new items that people will love! She does an incredible job and you should ONLY shop here! If she doesnt have it she will find it for you! I have experienced several dog stores and they do not compare to Candace's Dog a Holics. If you havent been here, PLEASE GO!

I walked in with a friendly welcome from the shop's owner and she totally catered to what I was looking for. My dog loved it there too. Even the customers were real friendly. Eventhough the shop is small, I think I spent an hour there because there's so much stuff to look at. I ended up getting a Carob cake and a bunch of home made donuts for my pup and her friends. I admit, I tried it too and it was really good!
