Stopped in here this morning after dealing with a cough that I haven't been able to shake for weeks. It was finally time to get it checked out. I figured a clinic near my office would be easier than trying to get an appt. with my doctor and trekking the few avenues, so I stopped into this place.

Receptionist was sort of unpleasant and abrupt, but I just had to fill out some forms so I didn't have to interact with her too much. I was seen right after I had filled out the forms which was nice, I probably waited about 20 minutes total.

Dr. Altstein saw me after a nurse came in and took my blood pressure and temperature. He was super nice and friendly, made me feel comfortable. After a breathing exercise and some more listening to my lungs, the doctor prescribed me some stuff to make my cough go away (success!) All in all, I was out in about an hour, which was nice. Everyone here was friendly enough and the clinic itself looked dated, but was clean and doable. I think this is a great place to stop in if you need a doctor to take a look at something.

I walked in after having a 103 fever and sore throat, which my boyfriend had already diagnosed me with strep throat (hes sort of an expert at this as he's had it about a million times until he took his tonsils out). Having no insurance, I finally decided to see the doctor after the fever not going down. I got there at around 7, there weren't alot of people, about maybe 3 in front of me. and during wait, i started reading all the yelp reviews. it's true, the receiptionist is kinda unprofessional, and to be honest she has no idea about anything, i asked if they do onsite strep culture, and she gave me a whole thing about how they send their tests to the lab and takes weeks to get back. im like lady, you clearly have no medical knowlege at ALL. -.-''

THEN AT FREAKING 8 PM THEY LOCKED THE DOORS, people came and were pissed to find out that the 24/7 WALK-IN WAS CLOSEDDDDD. seriously, why advertise this if you were going to close? the 34th street one also close at 8. then with all the doctors leaving, i waited even longer, like an hour before i saw the doctor for 5 minute, basically just to reconfirm with my home diagnosis and get the prescription to head out. had they been faster at doing their job, i woulda been able to get medicine on time, instead i was 5 minutes late to the stupid duane reade closing at precisely 8:30pm -.-''

    total cost:
    visit+strep test= $155
    amoxicillin= $24.99

I know I've bad mouthed Beth Israel before, but that was the Ambulatory Center. If you decide, at 6am on a Sunday morning, that you may indeed have pneumonia, there is no better place to make sure. I thought for sure that a walk in clinic in Chelsea might give me the herp, but in fact, it was my ultra-feverish, really sweaty husband that was the grossest thing in there. It was clean, they were very friendly, fast and the waiting room is stocked with up-to-date magazines!!! Can you believe it?!? Nice.

I walked or I should write,  hobbled in after an excurciating knee injury on a Monday morning at 7:30 AM.  Yes, the waiting area is dreary as others have written however as with most things, appearances are mostly insignificant.  I was desperate for some relief and answers to determine what was wrong with my knee.  I saw a very competent doctor, she was not overly warm but I am not looking for a new BFF.  She sent me to another Beth Israel facility on West 34th Street for an x ray and I saw a doctoer that same afternoon.    This doctor was great and I think also works at the emergency clinic.

They are a great resource in an emergency and definitely beats sitting in an emergency room for 5-7 hours.  They are great if you do not have a regular internist, like me.  In an emergency, I would use them again.

I arrived with intense stomach pains to this 24 hour facility around 6pm, only to be turned away because they were not going to be open until 11pm. And the staff was not kind in the delivery of this news, more like annoyed? It was very stressful for me, and misleading to think I was going to a 24 hour care center, that wasn't 24hrs.

I'd been feeling crappy for days but was hoping my immune system would kick in without having to find a doctor. When it was clear that that wasn't going to happen anytime soon, I decided to try this 24-hour clinic (I have health insurance, but have moved a bunch and am generally healthy, so I don't have a G.P.).  I had been afraid to come here given all of the bad reviews, and am glad to report that I was pleasantly surprised.

I arrived at around 8:30 am on the morning of a holiday. There were a bunch of people waiting, but my name was called in 30-45 minutes. Dr. Altstein was extremely approachable, answered all of my questions, and wrote me the prescription I needed. He said that if I wanted to come back at some point for a physical or any other issues, he was taking new patients -- so all I would need to do is make an appointment. Some of the girls at the front desk were less than friendly, but luckily I didn't have to interact with them too much.

Come here if you need quick care and don't have a G.P., or you aren't falling apart enough to need an emergency room. I feel very lucky to have a place like this in my neighborhood.

The place looks a bit dingy, but the docs I've seen have ranged for competent to fantastic. Appointments usually run 15-30 minutes late, but that's not unusual. Best part is that they take walk ins 24/7. On a walk-in, I've waited anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours. It all depends on how many people show up, but the docs never rush you.

I read the reviews, went here anyway, and don't regret it.  Although not overly friendly, the receptionist was helpful in finding my insurance card online and printing a copy since I had forgotten mine.

I was seeking treatment on a holiday weekend for a serious sinus infection.  No way I could wait 3 days to see my regular doc.

Now, my visit was at 10:00 PM on a Saturday evening.  Place was dead, one other person in the waiting room.  The space is dumpy and dreary.  However, the doctor was great, spent a lot of time with me, and sent me on my way.  She also called in the prescriptions to a 24 hour pharmacy so I could pick them up and take right away!

5 stars--I will go again if I need it.   Hopefully I won't need to, but somehow I am sure I will be back sometime.

It's a 24-hour clinic that eventually, barely, provides a service. But that's something. That's two stars of something.

Beyond that bare provision, this place is purgatory. The feeling of waiting for eternity combines with 3-6 phone lines ringing nonstop, ringing loudly, unanswered, rudely ringing on top of eachother, ringing without a moment's reprieve.

While waiting 20 minutes to check out, after waiting in three other rooms for 3.5 hours total, I realized what was happening. It was a conspiracy. A conspiracy against the poor and otherwise inclined to go to a low-cost clinic. They were waiting me to death. Their plan was to make me wait, until I went crazy and just died. Then, they'd harvest my organs to generate revenue for the system. (They give the city a generous cut from organ sales to keep quiet.)

Not that I blame them. I have fabulous kidneys.

i went to Beth Israel after getting the worst UTI in my life. I called ahead to see if they are busy (6am) and i was told no one was there. I was treated within 15 mins of getting there. I saw Dr Bowler, who was the sweetest doctor, she also told me since i didn't have insurance to call her if the meds are not working instead of coming in and paying another $125. She also decided not to send my urine to cultured to save me money.
    all in all, great experience!

True there is a long wait, however ultimately you are seen. Its the only 24 hour walk in clinic in the city. I have been going there for the past few years and the doctors are great, especially Dr.Cheuy and Karen Holliday
I do have an issue with the attitude with the reception staff. Reception staff is very unprofessional. If you can deal with the reception and long wait, its worth the while

There is a major problem if you need any kind of long term help here. I have been trying to get a repeat prescription for 4 months. 8 calls to the office - two left on the prescription answerphone - clearly never listened to, and the rest were messages left with real people. I did eventually get a call from a doctor but still no prescritpion as when the pharmacist called them they ignored her call.
Luckily I found another source. Otherwise I would actually be dead now.

Doctor was rushed, staff unhelpful before, during, and after the appointment--they failed to actually write down the appointment I'd scheduled on the phone a week earlier.  The waiting room was no better than a public hospital, and not far above a free clinic.  I was looking for a PCP and excited to finally have insurance so I could stop going to those kinds of places, and this place was a major disappointment.

If you have insurance, go anywhere else.

Here's the deal. I've gone to DOCS on  34th street twice and been impressed by the care that I've been given.  Both times, however, my illness was pretty cut and dry (run of the mill strep etc.).
I'm currently just starting a job, and don't have insurance yet, but got very sick last week.  I went to DOCS on 23rd because I'd closer, and my fever was 103.  The doctor, who shall go unnamed, misdiagnosed me and prescribed me a very expensive antibiotic ($150) that ended up being completely inappropriate for the condition.  I ended up in the ER two days later, getting various IV medications and alarming looks from other doctors who heard what I'd been prescribed. I called the doctor who saw me, prior to going to the ER, many times and never received a call back.

I am a community health care worker, and I understand the pressures we are all under. Despite the fact, that I ended up near thousands of dollars in the whole due to his misdiagnosis and shotty care (he asked me if I had a fever, when it was on a sheet in front of him, provided by the NURSE, he proclaimed my lungs clear when, in fact, they were decidedly unclear), I decided to simply  write  him a letter stating that I understood what had occured but I wanted to caution him against making future snap shot judgements.

Don't give up fully on DOCS. If you need to see a DOC, and don't have insurance, or even if you do but can't seem to get an appointment, I'd say that it's worth going in, especially if what you are suffering from isn't all that complex.  However, the doctors are a little nicer and perhaps better at the 34th street location.

DOCS is sort of like a hypochondriac's 7-11.

I go there when I can pretty much diagnose myself, but need a doctor to write a prescription ( strep throat, pneumonia, crabs...er....I mean.... nevermind).

They WILL see you, no matter what. Which is 75 percent of the battle here in NYC where getting a doctor's appointment is like attempting to get into Lotus (is that still a club thingie? I don't get out much.)

You will wait. Oh sweet god, will you wait. I once read an entire Genre Magazine cover to cover. Afterwards I had a strong desire buy vodka and a vacation packages to Mykonos. In other words, bring a book.

After failing to treat a UTI with home remedies, I decided to suck it up and go see a doctor. A friend recommended DOCS to me and even though I read some of the negative reviews on here, I decided to give it a try. The fact that they are open 24/7 and accept walk-ins was very appealing to me because of my busy schedule. I braced myself for a long wait, though.

I was pleasantly surprised! I showed up at about 8:30 or 9pm, and I waited MAYBE half an hour (probably less) to be seen. The staff was professional and efficient. The doctor was fast (which might unnerve some people, I guess, but I was glad). And there's a 24 hour CVS just down the street for filling prescriptions!

I probably wouldn't go here for a regular check-up, but for minor health concerns it seems like a good place to go. Seems to me that going later in the evening like I did is also your best bet.

I been here twice since I am usually in good health and don't have a current General Practicioner. First time I only waiting 30 minutes as a walk-in and saw Dr. Cheuy who was really listened to me and seem generally concern. Next time. I came here I waiting over an hour (with an appt) and saw Dr. Galichon who also was very good. I have to say the nurses and Dr's are great.. but where do they get there office staff. YIKES. Talk about a rude unpleasant bunch! They do hit you up with a $100 after hours fee which they don't tell you about (I think that is VERY shady) but all in all if you get in before 5pm and don't mind a wait.. it's pretty ok.

God this place is AWFUL. This place falls under the  " Beth Israel Medical Group " and got lots of press recently for opening up a 24 hour 7 day a week primary care office. Well it was late at night (2am) and I've been sick for a few days and I decided to go clear up some things since I was up.

Long story short - the nurses were rude and MEAN. I asked a few questions and the woman's body language and tone were read  "what are you an idiot?" all over her face even though they were basic simple questions. If you go after ten pm there's a $100 facilities fee which isn't written anywhere other than the bill (after you've seen the doctor) and not disclosed beforehand. I have no idea if my insurance will cover that.

And does everyone here hate their job or did I just get unlucky? I just got this cold feeling from this whole place. I wanted to get out as fast as possible.  Thankfully I didn't have anything too serious and just wanted a second opinion. I definitely wouldn't come here if I was really sick.

I much more prefer Callen Lourde in the area if you need a general clinic. Their wait is a bit longer but they are cool and IF YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE CALLEN LOURDE WILL WORK WITH YOU TO HELP YOU OUT.

All in all I would not recommend. I wish I had waited another 6 hours or gone to the ER instead. They were mean and unhelpful and I came home a wreck.

Okay I know I was a walk-in but I thought it would be about an hour wait.

It was over three hours of a wait, plus an additional 30 minutes wait for the doctor to grace me with his presence once I got into the room.

One of the receptionists is kind of a bleep too.

I'm still sick right now or I'd try to be wittier with this review. So in conclusion, make an appointment beforehand unless you want to devote four hours of your day to this place.

I have been using DOCS for last-minute emergent issues for years.  It's tough getting a doctor's appointment in NYC, even with your primary care physician, and if I have something that needs to be taken care of immediately and not in three days (like a UTI, sinus infection, etc.), I go to DOCS 34th Street.

I have always had good experiences.  Sometimes I have to wait for over an hour, but it's a walk-in place, so that's what I expect.  Today I needed meds for a sinus infection.  I called and the receptionist (who answered promptly and was courteous) told me that the wait was 20-30 minutes.  I arrived at 11:10 a.m., was in the treatment room at 11:23 a.m., saw the doctor at 11:28 a.m. and was on my way back to work by 11:45.

I wouldn't use DOCS as a substitute for a primary care physician for physicals or more serious issues, but I highly recommend them for walk-in care.

I went to Docs for a minor issue that I was scared was going to turn more serious. When I walked in I was told to expect a 2 hour wait. Which was fine. It is a clinic after all. So I filled out paperwork and waited in nearby Starbucks to pass the time. Actually got to be seen by doctor a half hour earlier--meaning wait was only 90 minutes. Waiting room very clean. Good mags to read. Even a computer with Internet access. Doc I saw was great. Put me at ease, diagnosed me correctly, prescribed something that really helped. Best of all he helped me with a non emergency issue I had been having, one that was troubling me for months. Price very affordable even without insurance. If you have an emergency and it is midnite this is the place to go.

Started going here because it was a walk-in and close to work, and took my company's insurance. My regular doctor, Dr Galichon, is very nice, helpful, thorough.

I went in one night in February, however, for breathing problems. Waited about an hour, was seen around 8 pm by a Dr Matthew Love. He dismissed my concerns about asthma because "my lungs sounded fine", even though I was diagnosed with it as a child and have been exhibiting all the signs. He listened to me breathe, took a pulse ox and wrote me a referral for a sleep apnea study. (Not covered by insurance, can't afford.)

I went back a couple weeks later, saw Dr Galichon and was prescribed an asthma inhaler, with all the normal asthma/breathing tests.

Just got an "explanation of benefits" for the visit to Dr Love. I'm being charged $133 for the visit because, according to the code that appeared on my EOB, "SERVICE(S)PROVIDED IN THE OFFICE DURING REGULARLY SCHEDULED EVENING, WEEKEND, OR HOLIDAY OFFICE
HOURS, IN ADDITION TO BASIC SERVICE "

There was absolutely NO mention of this posted, this guy did NOTHING for my actual problem, was dismissive of me, and then hits me with over $100 because I saw him after 8 pm. (Because I was made to wait. Well, OK for a walk-in, but if the fee for late service is that high that has to be POSTED SOMEWHERE.)

Bottom line: go for regular appointments or daytime, weekday walk-ins. Avoid Dr Love. And ask them how much EVERYTHING will cost before you let them do it. Because apparently, just being listened to with a stethoscope after 8 pm costs you over $100.

I called and complained so they took the charge off.  I have excellent insurance so double check.  The next time I went to the doc at Duane Reade and so far, no hidden costs and the doctor had excellent credentials (check http://www.nydoctorpro...).

I had a great experience here as a walk in. When I needed a referral to get my poor back into physical therapy, Dr. Altstein hooked me up. He was great, and yes I had to wait as a walk in, but that's what walking in is about. They told me honestly it would be a while, and that they weren't sure exactly how long it would be. It was about an hour and a half, but then Dr. Altstein saw me quickly and happily, and sent me on my way to physical therapy. What more can I ask for?

Good for minor things only.  I do have pretty good insurance so I would probably never come here if I thought I had anything serious.  However if you need a prescription for something simple like strep or pinkeye this is a good place to go.  The place doesn't feel particularly clean and the doctors aren't particularly nice but if you already know what your condition is and just need a prescription it works fine.  I figure the wait is less than any ER around town that you would have to go to if you don't have an appointment.  My first wait when I went on a weekday was about 2 hours.  I just went on a Sunday afternoon and my wait was probably only 45 minutes.  Not too bad.  I try not to touch anything while I am here and wash my hands thoroughly before I leave and use a napkin to open the doors.  I advise you do the same.

Open 24/7. What more can you say? They take walk-ins and all sorts of insurance. Not a substitute for a regular physician (although I've been getting by with DOCS for years), they're missing that personal touch. But in a pinch, they rule. Especially if you already know what you have and just need a script. For more complex or long-term problems, I wouldn't recommend. It's a clinic and sometimes the wait can be long for walk-ins, but not usually too bad.

My doctor both times was Dr. Chuey, and he seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. I was prescribed some pills that seemed to work. The only reason they get two stars is for the fact that they are open 24/7/365. Went there with major shoulder pain; sat in the waiting room next to a girl who was on her phone all the name, loudly announcing she thought she had mono - which is only to be topped by the person to my other side who literally coughed his lungs out and was pale white. After waiting for over 2 hours, I was herded into the back and waited for another 40 minutes until a doctor came in to see me. The diagnostic process was quick and efficient and leaves me wondering why I had been waiting as long as I did. On my way out I then had the pleasure of overhearing the doc venting about 'mono girl' and how she was obnoxious.

we're here for a month from california and my husband has been sick for four days.  since he's had pneumonia twice before i wanted him to see someone sooner rather than later.  we couldn't find a doctor who would see us on short notice but this place was suggested by our cheap cheap cheap employer.

we went at 3pm which was a good time.  there was only one person in front of us but the wait was still about a half an hour.  however, when they called my husband's name we both got up and the male nurse kinda shushed me and told me that they only allow one person in the office.  my husband has been feeling like crap for days and depends on me in situations like this.  as soon as he got inside he texted me with a big "WTF?"

later he said the nurse thought he was a real comedian and asked questions like "are you allergic to anything - besides work?"  funny, huh?  and then when they released him we waited in the waiting room for another half an hour before i went up and asked what was going on.  we were supposed to be in a check out area.  as i said, my husband was in quite a fog and the staff were not helpful.

oh, and did i mention the door that gets slammed in the waiting room about every 15 seconds by staff and exiting patients?  it's like a gunshot.  really nice effect when you're sick enough to brave a clinic like this in the first place.

Thought that I was coming down with strep. I had the symptoms of it and woke up the next day in a lot of pain. I arrived around 8:00 am. and was registered and seen right away. I was in an out with a diagnosis and prescription in an hour. The staff was fine and the doctor who I had seen was quick and professional.

I went this past Saturday, because i had a high temp and a bronchial cough.  After waiting nearly 3 hours in the lobby to see the doctor, the doctor literally said to me 'nothing is wrong with you, but here's a zpak'  The doctor was completely careless, rude, and didn't even look at me once.  I would have been better staying home in bed.

I went to another doctor for a second opinion.  What a waste of time/energy (that i don't have)/money.

Who doesn't like a walk-in off the street doctors office.  I had pink eye on a Sunday morning walked in and put my name on the list.  Then I went out ate lunch at RUB BBQ walked back to DOCS and waited about 30 more minutes.  I just have to say that is much better than having to wait until Monday to be seen by my doctor.  You are going to wait, but in a pinch this is great.  Dr. Strauss was great.

I read all of these reviews before I went to the Beth Israel Medical Clinic and expected the polar opposite of the service I ultimately received. I called before I went in to see how long the wait would be: 2 hours. But I didn't even mind because they lady on the phone was SO polite that I was alright with it. I had a killer UTI, that came on suddenly a few hours later, and was constantly running in and out of the bathroom in agony. They noticed. The wait ended up being only an hour and both the nurse and the doctor I had were two of the nicest ladies I have yet to encounter here in New York. I do not have health insurance, so they told me if I was not feeling 100% better to call back and instead of me having to come in again they could write a prescription over the phone so I could avoid the line and the fees. I had a great experience there and woke up feeling so much better I just had to yelp about it.

    So here is my reasoning:
    A. Even if the service is regularly not so great (as many yelpers have noted) and the lines are long, it is a walk in clinic. A walk in 24 clinic... for people like me, without insurance, it doesn't get much better than that.
    B. You have nothing to lose, except maybe an extra $100 if you go after 5pm. But I also didn't even care about that because of how kind EVERYONE was and well taken care of I felt. I honestly wish I could have given them so much more. My entire visit including my prescription, since I went at 12am was $135. It would have been triple that if I had to have gone to the hospital. So stop your complaining! This place is a diamond in the ruff.

I had a pretty awful experience here. I had just moved here and my insurance just kicked in. Since I was a first time patient, no one would take me immediately to treat a UTI.The wait was 3 hours, which I didn't mind as a walk-in. However, the receptionist actually yelled at me when I asked her what her estimate of the wait would be. I was feeling really unwell and doctors make me nervous so by the time I got in there I was just totally stressed out. The attending nurse was also rude and very impersonal, even though it was obvious that I was getting kind of worked up. The physician ( I think it was Cheng?) asked me what I considered inappropriate questions, and was incredibly unsympathetic. I would go into greater detail about it but it was just too weird. And when I asked for a referral, he wouldn't even take the time to suggest either a doctor or even an office. This place seriously needs to work on their patient care.

The great thing about DOCS is that they always take walk-ins. I've never waited more than an hour and the service is friendly and professional. Recently I went in, got a prescription, and a few days later the doctor called me personally to see how I was doing and if the medication was working.

Great Resource for 24 hour x 7 care. Went in tonight w/major digestive track issues - the receptionist was not unfriendly as others here say. Dr. Bowers was competent, thorough and cautious w/diagnosis. Only after tests were returned was I getting meds. I do agree the place needs some basic maintenance but overall it was fine.
