9 reviews for Doce Lunas Restaurant & Antiques
This is easily my favorite restaurant. Every time I go here I am amazed. I have gone when there was just 2 of us and when there was a party of 14. Alex the chef and owner is brilliant and his wife Jackie, who waits tables is wonderful. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu. My favorite item is the Sticky Toffee Pudding... I know that this is a dessert, but it is a must every time you go.
The food here has FLAVOR. My taste buds are always happy with whatever I eat here. If the menu happens to have the Hot & Sour soup... GET IT. I have never found a soup as good as this one.
I can never decide what to order here because it is all good... whether you order the Crab Cakes, Citrus Chicken, NY Steak, or Pork Chops (amazing) you will be happy. I recommend ordering different items, so that everyone can share. Also, the Family style is worth it too... you get to add a soup/salad and dessert.
Basically, this place is one of my staples in Sonoma County. The food here is amazing. I recently moved out of the Sonoma area and miss it so much. Seeing as how I used to eat here almost once a week!
The owners/chefs are wonderful people (Alex and Jackie). I don't think I ever ordered a dish that I didn't like. I would usually get their fish nakyamakatsu (sp). The pork adobo is to die for! They have creative specials that change frequently. Something for everyone. There prices are extremely fair considering the quality of food. Not to mention you have the option of turning any dish into "family style." Which includes soup and salad plus a desert for just a bit more than the entrée price!
I highly recommend this place! I hope you love it too!
I'm VERY surprised at the number of negative reviews here and can only wonder if they came from a competitor. Or maybe from people smarter than I who don't want the place to be popular. (Yes, go to the overcooked and bland food down the street!)
Just came back from one of the finest meals in recent memory and remarked to my wife that I didn't remember a restaurant that good since we were in New Orleans a year ago. It was one of those meals where every bite was perfectly seasoned and savored. Service was attentive, friendly and fun without being intrusive. Just right.
Decor? Eclectic and interesting with lots of antiques, wine country oil paintings for sale, owners' collections of salt and pepper shakers, chargers from around the world, nice mixture of marble, stainless steel, stained glass and more antiques. Nothing overdone, though. Just right.
The food? We had two family dinners (soup, salad, entree, dessert) for $27 each. VERY reasonable for the portions and quality. The soup was a white minestrone made with chicken stock. Every bite excellent. House salad excellent. Entrees were served in HOT skillets, with garlic mashed potatoes, vegetables and reduction sauces. I had the falling-off-the-bone braised lamb shank with just the right amount of fresh rosemary. Wife had kalbi beef ribs, perfectly glazed. The potatoes absorbed all the leftover sauce.
The dessert? Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. A caramelized bread pudding right up there with Pat O'Briens on Bourbon Street. The only thing missing was a hurricane drink. Worth a trip just for the dessert!
We came here on a recommendation from Nicholson Ranch Winery. The chef has apparently cooked around the world, so there are many different elements used in the food.
We arrived about 7pm on a Wednesday. The place is absolutely empty. We forge ahead and are seated. They offer a combo meal that includes a choice of entree, soup and dessert for about $27.
We get a soup that was a corn chowder, though not typical. It was good, although served a bit too hot. We then got our main entree, New York steaks. The meal was served in a skillet with all sorts of goodies to accompany it. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Everything was wonderful. We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. It is really just OK, not my thing.
Service was just OK. You would think otherwise being that during our meal only one other couple came in. I had to ask for water refills a couple times.
This place lacks all atmosphere. There is no music, the place is silent which is odd especially when there is no one inside. The walls are all white with green carpeting and peach tile. This combination is better fitting for a Coco's. In all it felt very cold and uninviting. They also offer up cheap wrapped mass produced dinner mints with the check that are appropriate only for a Dennys.
Despite the above, this is an awesome value and the food was wonderful. If I was blind, I would have called this a 5 star experience.
Owner / Chef makes Northern California-French-Hawaiian fusion food. Our meal was absolutely delicious!
4 to 5 daily specials. Your server will guide you to food nirvana.
Several micro-brew beers on tap. Fairly priced wine list features local vintages.
12 tables inside. 4 more outside on the patio. 3 course meal for 2 with 2 glasses of wine = $60.
Artistic gourmet food / humble dining room / friendly people / low prices. My new favorite restaurant!
This is an overlooked gem, as it sits in an out of the way location in the Kenwood Village Shopping Center. They've been around for 8 years, and the food and service certainly justify 8 more. The Hawaiian influence is clear and a real positive. We had two different fish dishes, and they were nothing short of spectacular. But do save room for the sticky toffee pudding. Yes, the wine list is pretty short and simple, but you can live with that if the food is as good as it is. The reasonable prices ($27 for soup/salad, entree and dessert) are a real plus these days. There is an outdoor eating area as well.
Upon a first read of the menu it seems there's a fusion of French, German and pan-Pacific cuisine. Sound vague and hard to place? It is. Sweet and savory are haphazardly intermingled at Doce Lunas. We were also surprised by the heaviness of the food, particularly the meat entrees and the baked brie appetizer, which came encrusted in about 1/2 inch of breadcrumbs. The cedar plank salmon was definitely the best thing we ate, but that was just one dish out of three entrees and two appetizers. Service was friendly but inattentive. Save your money and time and go to Cafe Citti for some good Italian food at half the price.
Save yourself the time and go to Vineyards Inn, just down the street. The service was good and the food okay, but not worth the $50+ for the one steak, one beer, one cup of soup meal. SKIP IT.
Three words: Sticky Toffee Pudding...its amazing and I do not use that word lightly. All of their dishes are GREAT!! And the service kicks ass! Jackie and Alex are the owners and they are both very experienced in the wine/food worlds and have traveled the world to bring the flavors to Sonoma/Kenwood. A definite stop for lunch or dinner while wine tasting in the area. They also carry a great assortment of CA wines and local wineries which I love.
