Do Rad used to have hard liquor for clients. They have images of both dinosaurs and the Ramones on their bathroom wall. Becky worked with me to lift my hair from a too-dark shade of violet to  this absolutely amazing Rainbow Brite orange and gave me perfect bangs. It is the cheapest place for color and cuts in Portland, but also the place that found a solution for my mousy hair (Rainbow Brite orange, of course; why didn't I think of that?) and cut it to grow out. It's now almost shoulder length.  Kristi gave my dude his first haircut in ten years, and he looks like Buddy Holly, in a sexy way. He really appreciated the atmosphere and even felt moved to buy hair products. I think my fivestar review is justified, maybe?

Yes sir ee, bay-bee... I'm looking good now! :) I really adore this place... it's so laid-back. Decor is right along the lines of "dive bar", but with shampoo, conditioner, and de-frizzers. The people in there are super easy to talk to, and Kristi did a fantastic job on my color... I've really never been happier. Of course, I will say that it's ALWAYS nice NOT to look in the mirror and see my gray-ass hair, but this color is divine... and all thanks to Kristi.

The cut is a little not my style... maybe a little too wispy, but overall very happy. I will ask for something different next time on the cut, but I'll be good to go when I get my bi-annual "do" at the Do! Also of note is that Kristi rocks to talk to... very down to earth, and very fun... she has just a wonderful range of knowledge to keep anyone entertained.

On the pricing w/ Kristi (as of this past weekend):
haircut = $35
permanent color = $60

Not too bad, but damn it - I wish that being beautiful didn't cost so much money... why can't I be just a little less gray, and have that perfect hair that air dries in the perfect location after a cut from Super Cuts? Ah, one can dream...

I alternately walked and rode the bus for 2-3 hours to finally arrive at this salon (I live about 1 hour away by bus. There was trouble). It was cold and rainy, and my shoes were completely soaked. I ended up about 45 minutes late.
Relieved to arrive at last, I apologized and remarked that it was very cold. My stylist, Becky, smiled and said it was no trouble. She led me to a chair, and even took my coat and bag for me. Then she asked me what exactly I was looking for.
I had brought several pictures with me, and she studied them and asked me a few questions to be sure of what I wanted. I was still shivering at this point, but she brought me around to wash my hair and it warmed me up right away. Both the shampoo and conditioner smelled absolutely delicious.
She told me she was considering cutting my hair with a razor, which I had never had done before, to give it a more choppy look. She said that the downside was that it would need to be kept up more often. Well, it's a wonderful feeling! Having your hair cut with a razor has this nice light pull to it; it's almost like a massage.
Whether we talked was up to me; if I chatted, she did, and if I didn't, she was generally quiet. I never do like having a forced conversation, so this was nice. She explained every new thing she did and told me what each product she used was for.
Finally she sprayed some sea salt spray into my hair ("to rough it up"), dried it, added some light gel, and voila! It looked almost exactly like the picture. I asked about what I might use to give it a similar look, and she picked something out and showed me, but when I decided against it she put it right back, not pushing me to buy anything at all. And the price was only $30 + $7 tip! Certainly cheap for perfection, especially compared to other Portland salons.
This cut is so cute that I kept flipping it about and messing with it for the rest of the day. My boyfriend noticed and loved it. I think even my cats loved it. Thanks Becky! Thanks Do!

Do! is the best place I have ever been to get my hair cut; granted, I do not get my hair cut very often since I have had long hair for most of my life. Kris, the owner, is wonderful! Not only is she super nice (as are the other stylists), but she is also very professional.

My explanation of how I wanted my hair was vague, but Kris followed through. She gave me the best haircut I have ever had! I don't think I will ever go anywhere else.

I was told you can have a free beer while you wait, but my appointment was early in the morning so I didn't even inquire about the brew.

While I was getting my hair chopped, the other stylist was cutting the hair of a six or seven year old boy and she was so sweet with him! I can only imagine all of the other stylists there are just as nice with kids.

THE GOOD: Super nice, good music, good company, it is more than Super Cuts (Blah) BUT not much more, and they are great with kids.

THE BAD: I should have made a later appointment so I could have collected my drink ;) There is nothing bad about this place!

Do! is great.  They're not prissy, so I feel right at home.  Kristi is cool and easy to talk to, and she never gives me a hard time for totally flaking out on my appointments.  I promise to be on time for my next one though!

As soon as I ask him her name, I will enter it here because one of the stylists at Do! just gave my fiance a fantastic haircut!  He has "cowlick issues" and she handled them beautifully.  Only $20 too.
