Dave was our wedding DJ. How did we find him? I put "DJ" into the Yelp search and called the top 3.
Dave, although he was a bit more pricey than the others (he was $1400 while others came in around $1000 - $1200), he blew us away from the moment we met him. He was professional, put together and understood quickly what we wanted with our wedding. He added ideas, asked us what we thought of certain artists and was also excited about our idea to dance down the aisle.
For our wedding, Dave provided the music for pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail party, dinner and dancing. For each of those, we had ideas on how to control the mood. Also, on the day, I could see how he watched and felt out the crowd to see how they were reacting to it. The MOMENT the dance floor opened up, it was packed and at the end, the lights had to come in order for people to leave. It was really amazing.
My one goal of the wedding was for people to have a blast. And with Dave's help, I really think we accomplished that.Listed in: Amazing Wedding Vendors

Dave did our wedding at the end of June, and I cannot say enough about him. From his professionalism in the planning phases to his execution the day of the wedding, he was a pleasure to work with. He also helped out with music for our rehearsal dinner and ceremony -- some of these requests were pretty last minute, but he was very flexible and totally cool about it.
I was initially nervous about the music as we were planning a Napa wedding from New York. However, just like everyone else says, he could not have done a better job. I did not have to give him a long song list, but just a vibe and he NAILED it from the dinner music to the last song. The extra twist was incorporating Bollywood into the mix since we had a Hindu/Christian wedding. I am not kidding when I say that at some point I saw my Indian relatives run, not walk, to the dance floor -- they all knew the songs that he picked! Everyone had such a great time on the dance floor, and it was like every new song was better than the one before. When Dave tells you that he feels the crowd, believe him! He is really not kidding! -

Dave was our wedding DJ, and the best thing we can say about it is he is no wedding Dj. I mean that in the way of high compliment. We consulted with him from day 1 and said we don't want a cheesy wedding Dj, playing horrible wedding songs. He not only met our expectations, he exceeded them. Dave listened to our music requests, and mixed them in with his music seamlessly.
Dave did our cocktail hour, our dinner, and the dancing after. Everything he played was perfectly suited for the moment, Sinatra, to Reggae, some classics, and a touch of hip hop. The crowd didn't stop dancing from the time they hit the floor.
I highly recommend Dave for any function. He has the ability to take over the event as the crowd and the mood dictates, and also listens to what you have to say, and your ideas. Thanks Dave!

Dave Tutton just DJ'd our wedding in Sonoma, and it couldn't have been better! The music was awesome, and people haven't stopped talking about how great it was and how much fun they had dancing!
We decided to meet him after reading the reviews on Yelp and signed up with him that day. It was the easiest decision we made - and definitely one of the best. The music and the food made our wedding truly amazing!
I can't say enough great things about him! If he's available for your event don't hesitate! He's really made our wedding the most fun! -

Dave DJ'd our wedding back in June and he was awesome! He has the amazing ability to read the crowd and navigate the dynamics of a wedding. Best of all, he isn't cheezy or chatty on the mic. He has a great taste in music and a diverse library that spans over many decades. Whether it's classic rock, hip hop, or R&B, he's sure to get any crowd moving! When it's not time to dance, he's able to provide appropriate background music for any situation.
He also knows how to adjust to the venue while still following the agenda. We had a home wedding where some of the music was played on live piano and the rest of the music was played on his system. He intertwined the two seamlessly! At the same time, he was sensitive to the volume levels and the fact that we were in a residential neighborhood. No cops showed up...just lots of dancing!
Finally, one of the best things about Dave is the minimal effort that went into song selection. He basically asked us about the type of music we liked. That's it. We electively sent him a list of bands we liked, but that probably wasn't necessary. With little information, he played our favorite songs and provided music that everyone liked.
Whether you're planning a wedding locally or from far away (we live in Seattle), Dave Tutton is the best choice! -

Dave doesn't advertise at all. His business is word of mouth only and he's one of the best kept secrets of the stars. Francis Ford Coppola (as in the Godfather director) likes to use DJ The Maestro.
I used DJ The Maestro for my wedding last month and was sooooooooooo impressed. He really set the mood at every stage of the event. From cocktail hour, to our grand entrance, to the dinner hour, to the cake cutting and garter toss to the crazy late night dancing, he selected all the music and he made the party come alive.
He is so trustworthy that I really recommend letting him select the music whenever possible. He's been DJing for 25+ years!!! -

Dave was an incredible DJ at our wedding. He got people moving, was super smooth with facilitating the speeches, and he played everything spot on.
He introduced us to our first dance song when we met with him and it was just the perfect soundtrack to kick off our wedding night. The music was always right in line with our style and it was never obtrusive or too much. I had asked him to play the Jewish Hora and he did it marvelously. He helped guide me through picking my father-daughter dance song, processional, etc.
I really relied on Dave as my consultant and when the day came I barely spoke to him - he was just there, so professional and on top of his game. Just be sure to confirm who is bringing what for the ceremony and the reception. There was one blip on our end but it was fine but extra communication never hurts.
Dave is truly a master at his art. We will be contacting him for all future events!! -

Dave Tutton is a DJ extraordinaire. His passion and knowledge of music clearly comes through in his work. His cool attitude and his quirkiness is a true plus. He was the maestro at our wedding and everyone LOVED the music and had a great time dancing. I love the flashy smoking jacket he donned for the occasion. He is more expensive than your generic DJ companies but he is so worth it!
We also enjoyed our meetings with him before the event as he is a very funny and animated and overall a cool guy.
A side note: Years after our wedding, we saw him on Check Please Bay Area and he rocked - he was lively, funny and obviously has good taste in food because his favorite restaurant was the House (mine too). -

Dave is the BOMB

Plus finding a DJ that really cares about the music "You" want to play, instead of the [I am so ultra hip and cool] is a real delight:)
I would absolutely book him again. He played for my Easter party which was kinda rained out this year, but with his help we really made a lemon of a day into some Electric Lemonade Funk!
He was helpful and easy to work with as well as being flexible with the rain schedule and the venue. I can't say enough good things about my experience. More than anything else he actually made me feel like less stressed about the event, and that is priceless:) -

DJ Dave Tutton is best you can get!
I lucked out because he was free on the day of my wedding. He was extremely professional, came on time, played exactly the type of music we wanted and figured out the proper set up for speakers for the long room venue we had. Plus he give the BEST customer service - he put up with me with all of my endless requests!!
Everyone LOVED the music that was played! He goes with the crowd's mood and plays whatever gets them on the dancefloor. I cannot complain about one thing! I would hire him over and over again! -

I LOVE DJ Dave! He did an INCREDIBLE job at our wedding a few weeks ago- managed to keep the entire crowd, from 20-somethings to grandparents dancing until 1am.
I got a lot of compliments after the wedding on the great dance mix. Plus, Dave met with me before the wedding and went over our taste in music, our style, etc...
Plus he was on Check Please Bay Area, one of my favorite shows and loves traveling and eating.... he's a superstar.

If you want your dance floor packed the whole night, Dave Tutton is your man. As the bride, I almost felt guilty that I didn't spend more time talking to people and less time dancing, but I could NOT peel myself away from the dance floor. I wasn't the only one though because nearly everyone commented on what a fun wedding it was and how much they danced. My in-laws were even sore from dancing the next day!!
Dave was great with the pre-planning too. He met with us and found out what we liked, then made excellent song suggestions. It was great to simply let him know our tastes and then he took it from there. He was also kind when letting us know that a particular song may not work for dancing and suggested putting it in the cocktail hour set. I was skeptical, but he certainly knew what would keep people shaking their tail feathers. Also, he was flexible with the set up (we had indoor/outdoor music going) and the MCing. He was classy with any announcements and gracious working my family and with the other vendors to make everything flow smoothly.
We HIGHLY recommend Dave. He is truly a fantastic choice for your event! -

This review almost seems redundant given the reviews already written, but I just wanted to add to the consensus that Dave is, for all intents and purposes, the perfect DJ.
He DJ'ed our wedding in October 2007. Our setup was challenging (we got married at a winery, and used three separate spaces), but Dave dealt with everything with no fuss and with competence and calm. He is a consummate professional, and knew his business extremely well.
But what really matters is that Dave plays absolutely fantastic music. During our meeting with him he didn't want to commit to a specific playlist, explaining that he gets a feel for the vibe of the group, then plays what he thinks will get people going. We trusted him. That was a good decision.
I've literally never seen results like Dave's either before or since. When we were finished with our first dance and opened up the floor to the guests, it was like there was a giant vacuum that just sucked them all into the middle. It was incredible - the dance floor was completely packed, with people dancing on the grass off the sides. The whole night our guests (not necessarily the most party-party group of folks) danced their little toes off. We had a blast and so did everyone else.
I cannot recommend Dave highly enough. If you have an event in the Bay Area and he is free, book him. Today. -

Dave was a great addition to our wedding reception as well. Several months prior to the event, we met with him and went over the styles of music we liked and didn't like. Dave is clearly passionate about music, and it was great fun chatting with him about song choices.
A week before the wedding, I emailed Dave to request a special song for our first dance. Given that it was a bit unusual ("Rainbow Connection", as song by Kermit the Frog), Dave wrote back and told me he didn't have it, but would try to get a copy. Sure enough, he scoured the record stores and found it!
At the wedding, everyone loved the music. If we ever save enough to throw another big party, Dave will definitely be our Maestro of choice! -

Another enthusiastically 5 star review for DJ Dave. Dave played our wedding a few weeks ago and did a phenomenal job.
I love people that simply know how to get it done. Dave met with us, got a feel for the type of music we were looking for, and rocked the house on wedding day. He figured out how to get speakers in tricky parts of the space and shared his equipment with our ceremony instrumentalist.
And, I'd read one of the other reviews below about Dave being able to get grandparents up and dancing, but I was waiting to see for myself. Wouldn't you know it, Grandma was putting the moves out. Folks are still talking about the energy and music from DJ Dave. Thanks! -

Dave DJ'd my birthday party and rocked the house. He read the crowd perfectly and got everyone dancing. I got lots of compliments on the music.
Dave is a real professional. He showed up exactly on time with exactly the right gear and just made it all happen.
Most importantly HE REMINDED ME TO DANCE WITH MY WIFE. Phew!!! Thanks Dave, not only did you rock the house, you saved a marriage. -

Dave Tutton performed at my sister's wedding in Livermore, and blew the roof off of that venue. He is by far one of the best DJs in the bay area! Nobody can read a party's mood better then him to get people on the dance floor and keep them there.
Also he's a really cool guy who lives to play, write, and listen to music, so you know you're in good hands. -

We brought Dave Tutton back for our massive New Year's Eve party -- and what a party it was! Everyone LOVED his style, the floor was never empty, and he was absolutely effortless to work with.
He came over a few weeks ahead of time to scout the room and discuss setup. Since we'd worked with him before, we gave him free rein with the playlist. The night-of, Dave showed up perfectly on time, set up quickly and unobtrusively, and proceeded to ROCK the house the entire night with everything from jazz to hip-hop to Motown to Bollywood(!).
Sure, we had to book him almost a year in advance. Sure, he's not the cheapest guy out there. But what's it worth to have a DJ who absolutely kills... who you don't have to worry about for one second... who makes you look really, really good for hiring him? My wife and I received a glowing recommendation from a colleague who has worked with Dave multiple times. This was after we read his glowing reviews here on Yelp.
Dave was a pleasure to work with before our wedding and we were so busy that we didn't give him as specific information as I had first wanted. It felt like we could really trust him to make good choices based on our taste in music and on our friends and family.
That proved to be a great decision! He got everyone dancing and having a great time throughout the reception! The staff at our venue commented that they hadn't seen this much dancing at a wedding in a long time! Everyone had a great time and many commented on how great our DJ was. I highly recommend him! -

How can I add more stars to his rating, or say something about Dave that isn't said below.
I hired Dave based on this yelp page and personal reference. What a FANTASTIC decision. Our wedding had over 250 people, and was held in a large, outdoor courtyard. Dance floor was full from the second people were asked to come on - I kid you not. Literally, people ran onto the dance floor in the middle of my mother and I dancing.
Dave had such a great library of music to choose from, played to our tastes (and the tastes of the rest of the croud) perfectly. There was never an empty spot on the dance floor. My only complaint was that the night had to end so soon.
Dave Tutton WILL be hired whenever any of my family or friends get married, throw an event, etc. You cannot go wrong with this gentleman. A true professional, and expert. If you do not hire Dave, you are a fool.
Thanks again Dave, I am still getting wall posts, text messages, and emails about the wedding, and your music. -

DJ Dave is THE DJ - period! He djed our wedding on 9/21/08. Our wedding day was beyond fabulous for many of reasons and one of them was DJ Dave. I could rave and rave about DJ Dave so let me just give you the facts:
* 25 out of 85 of my guests came up to me that night to ask me how I found such a fabulous DJ. OK if you don't think that is impressive than what is
* My new husband and I literally danced the WHOLE night. I think I stopped for 2 dances - one to get more champagne and two to take a bathroom break
* The dance floor was full the WHOLE night. He didnt clear the floor not even once!!! My main objective
* The music was so awesome - we let DJ Dave use his gift by reading the vibe of the crowd to pick what music to play - and when you hire him you should do the same!
* At the end of the night 3 servers came up to me and said it was the best wedding they had seen in 3 years! They said they had never seen such an awesome DJ and wanted to know how I found him!
* Even my parents were on the dance floor - basically DJ Dave is the God of Music
Ok so those are the facts. And the other thing I have to tell you - I know my wedding wouldn't have been as fabulous as it was without him because dancing allows people to have fun and create memories. DJ Dave created this for my wedding and I am eternally grateful for the beautiful and fantastic music he played. You rock DJ Dave!!! -

DJ Dave is incredible. He just worked our wedding this past Saturday. (12-6-08) He is professional, engaging, funny, and without a doubt an incredible DJ. We sent him a list of some music we liked and he crafted an entire night of perfect music. Dave also worked seamlessly with our event staff to setup toasts and transitions throughout the evening. He is worth every penny. Reminder: DON'T SKIMP ON THE DJ! Cut out your Aunt Sally or let go of an appetizer...a talent like Dave's makes the whole night a success.

DJ Dave is the best! He worked with my company on a recent fundraiser for Equality California. Aside form the fact that he is an incredible DJ and really tuned into the crowd, the atmosphere and the energy of the event, he is so professional, accommodating and easy to work with. Since this was a work event, on a Thursday night, we didn't expect a late close, but we actually had to turn up the lights and kill the music because people were having such a great time. Dave was definitely the glue that held the ambiance of our event together. He is such a pro. He accommodated our space and power capacity, was right on time, and took the time to really listen to what we wanted the role of the music to be at our event and delivered a perfect night! Totally exceeded my every expectation and raised the bar for DJ talent!

I promised myself that I would write a review for Dave and although a little late, here it is...
Dave DJ'ed our wedding at the beginning of May and he did an amazing job. At first I wanted a band but because of how everything ironed out, we decided to go with a DJ. We found Dave through Yelp and off we went.
Met with him one time to go over the music we like, what we don't like, the layout of the ceremony/reception... anything he needed to be part of or didn't. He was extremely chill and fun to talk about music with and gave great suggestions on music based on what we liked. For instance, we wanted down-tempo/chill music during our dinner time and although he had never done it, thought of what he'd play based on that genre and other music we were going to hear throughout the night.
He worked his magic at the reception and we got so many complements on the music that was playing and especially the volume level during dinner. Guests said they could hear the music great but could still hold a conversation without raising their voice. And everyone loved the music.
The rest of the night we left it up to Dave with our input on music types we liked and he created a seamless dancing experience for all ages. We always had a full dance floor up until lights-on. So many complements afterward on music and the DJ - he just knew what to play.
He truly works best when you give him ideas of what you like and don't like and let him feel the crowd out. Trying to ask for special requests would hinder his talents, although he will make anything work for you.
If you want a DJ and he's available, he's worth every penny, and then some.

Dave is really great. He worked on my wedding as our MC and of course DJ. He is great with getting people to dance and everybody loved him. He also helped us picked our "first song" and laughed with us at our fun choices ... totally recommend him!

DJ Dave- as I call him- was a great asset to my wedding reception. He was recommended to me and I choose him before I even had a wedding dress picked out. DJ Dave knows how to keep the party going and the people dancing all night. After the wedding, friends told me they had a great time and I received the most compliments about the dance music, DJ and then they mentioned other great aspects of the wedding. I was also on the dance floor all night with the groom, my family with my friends. However, I learned that you let him choose the music and just give him a couple of your favorite choices to play, like the first dance and so on. I don't think he likes a structure or schedule, because he won't follow it. The important point is that your party will be happy and dancing all night.

Dave is an outstanding DJ who did a terrific job playing fun music at our June wedding.........He was SUPER easy to work with, totally understood the types of music we lovvvvve, and did a wonderful job playing music and setting up equipment. Dave is a first class DJ, and he knows it. When we met Dave he was very easy to talk to and sampled some tunes for us. I expressed a bit of concern because our venue seemed to have 100 and 1 restrictions but Dave assured me that he would be able to play what we liked. I picked Dave because I wanted to hire a professional DJ, not a yellowbook DJ that makes you choose from a playlist. That's not what DJ-ing is about. I trusted Dave would know what's best and the only song we asked him to play was our first dance song.
At our wedding, I was on the dance floor the whole night. Madonna didnt do so well at our wedding and when Dave saw the legs moving off the dance floor he quickly escorted madonna off his player. We had a pretty young crowd and it was like Dave knew exactly what age we all were because he played our "oldies"...bringing back fond memories.
Two songs I love to dance to at weddings (dont laugh): kanye west' golddigger and 50 cent's in da club. Dave and I had some telepathy going on that night because he played both of these at our wedding. GENIUS! Dave if you're reading this- THANK YOU! -

Dave DJed my wedding on 05/31 and completely ROCKED it out. My husband are are huge motown fans and he kept the dance floor hot the entire night. He also did our ceremony and cocktail hour music and was spot on for both. I would hire him again in a second; he is a very chill cat, loves what he does and it shows. 10 stars for Tutt.

DJ Dave kicks ass!!! We just had our wedding on 9/26/08 and Dave was SO good. When we met prior to the wedding we explained that during dinner we wanted something old Hollywood feeling like Sinatra and Etta James. Then when the dancing was to start, I wanted to drop it like it's hot! Well Dave certainly delivered! Everyone talked about how good the music was. People even commented on how much they like the music during dinner and how it was the perfect volume (ie you could actually hear people speak!) and then when dancing started we had so much fun....JT, Timbaland, Kanye West, 50 cent...oh the memories!

Dave was our wedding DJ this past July in Santa Cruz.
When people plan their weddings, honestly, this is one of the most important parts. DJ's can make or break a wedding, and Dave tore the roof off the place. He was awesome. Almost seamless - playing great song after great song. The dance floor was never empty. We gave him a couple of must-plays before the wedding, but wanted him do his talent, and again, he blew it up!!! My bride and I did not leave the dance floor the whole night. Not even to use the bathroom. Now, that's a good DJ. Friend after friend have told us how much fun they had dancing to DJ Dave. We couldn't have been more happy with DJ Dave Tutton. He was worth every dollar. Especially when the bride's family pays. Heyooo!!!!!!

Dave DJ'ed my wedding on 8/31. He is a professional. While interviewing DJ's, we found that many of them wanted us to fill out a long list of requests. If we knew how to pick songs for a party, we wouldn't need a DJ!
Dave talked with us about what kind of music we like, what kind we don't, and just sort of felt out what kinds of things he should play. I was blown away by some of his selections during the cocktail hour. When the dancing began, he made the party a party. Thanks Dave! -

I wish I could give Dave Tutton more than 5 stars. I have no words to describe how fabulous he is!
What I can say is this: the music during the dinner portion of our wedding was understated, conducive to conversation, interesting, and picked up on specific (and somewhat obscure) genres we had identified. He interfaced with the technical support (my brother) to get sound connected to a computer for a video production with seamless ease. And when it was time to get the party started, he got it started and it did not stop! I kept meaning to leave the dance floor and go talk to the guests but every time I made a move the music pulled me back! He read the crowd like the professional he is and we had an absolutely fabulous time. Simply put, he is amazing. If you can get him for your event, do it. He is the key ingredient to having a fantastic time. -

Dave was the DJ at our New Year's Eve party and he is an absolute magician. I have never seen people dance so hard and for so long as they did that night and it had EVERYTHING to do with Dave. He reads the crowd perfectly and spins his magic with hypnotic enthusiasm and everyone starts moving. I have never seen anything like it. He is an artist in his ability to create an atmosphere of complete fun and festivity. This guy ROCKS!!

DJ Dave is Da man! He DJ'd at my wedding 5 years ago and I recommended him to a friend who's wedding was last Saturday night. Seriously, I could NOT leave the dance floor. DJ Dave is masterful at reading the crowd and playing THE most perfect tunes based on the energy and mood of the room. He's a genius! Everyone told me my wedding was the most fun wedding ever and I truly feel like my 2nd favorite wedding is the wedding last Saturday, mainly cause of DJ Dave. You will not be disappointed if you hire Dave for your event. Did I mention he also DJs for my company Holiday parties? On Saturday Dave told me that Francis Ford Coppola had asked him to DJ at his birthday party that same night...... (!!) But Dave didn't have the heart to cancel on my friend. That should give you a pretty good idea of his integrity. Seriously, he could have been hanging out with Robin Williams, Sharon Stone, etc.... but he chose to hang out with our far from famous group!

After talking to a lot of other D.J.s, I was so relieved and happy to find Dave. He actually asked me when my wedding was, what type of music we liked, what sort of mood we wanted to create. He was genuinely interested in our wedding. He is extremely knowledgeable about music and won't just play top 40 (unless that's what you want, of course!). Where else are you going to find a D.J. who loves Sondheim and Sinatra?

Dave DJ'd our wedding and he was fantastic!!! Everyone keeps telling me how much they enjoyed the music and dancing. Dave is a true professional, trustworthy and just a really nice guy. I would hire him again anytime... and probably will. :-) Thanks, Dave!
