food? absolutely amazing! service? fantastic! venue? great!
you can color on the "table cloth" too!
This place is awesome, and if it makes any diffrence to you, they have a history of being a huge supporter of the gay community. If youve not been, GO!

I eat there every week, if not more.

Every time, it is just absolutely amazing food with so much flavor.
I have yet to try everything on the menu, but so far, my very very favorites are:
Blackened Salmon, Soyiso Scramble, Chiliquillas, Potato Pickle Soup, Chicken Tortilla Soup, French Toast with Mixed Berries.

Service is great. The people are so nice and friendly.
If service is ever bad... I'm guessing it's because you were a bad customer. If you're rude, they'll be rude right back to you. I love it.
And if you're nice, they are the nicest ever.

Back patio is beautiful. The inside is full of character. There's a nice art gallery attached to it, as well.

TIP: Make reservations!

How do you serve a cold breakfast?  I have never had anyone walk 35 steps or less and serve me cold food but Dixie accomplished this.  The staff had time to lash out at the "out of towner's in Omaha for the College World Series of Baseball in the kitchen" but could not deliver the food until they had their debate about who's fans were worse - Virginia or California (Fullerton)... Wow.

When I sent back my food for reheating it came back fresh from the microwave not replaced... so it was then high qualiity rubber with a layer of pepper for flavor.  I don't know how this place ever made Triple D (Diners, DriveIns and Dives).  And don't forget Dixie it is dark, expensive and in a bad part of town to boot.

I don't even pretend to be any more than pre-dotcom old school San Francisco but even with that limited history I know with moderate tweaks this is the kind of place that would have been on the verge of exploding (without Guy's help) back then.  It's not jaw-dropping delicious or overly imaginative but it is good, comforting food and the experience seems unique.

I had blackened salmon and though I wonder if it might have been frozen at one point it cooked up well and had great flavor.  The portion was huge.  Truly, the only sort of disappointing aspect was the sides which for me were mashed potatoes and green beans.  The potatoes were ok and the beans were watery.  Charge a buck or two more and pay a little more attention to those and this meal comes together much better.

General things I liked were the space itself which while simple and open also felt original.  I didn't notice the attached art gallery until on the way out but that's cool to see.  Everyone in what was probably a pretty diverse crowd seemed to be enjoying their meals.  The service was very good from making the reservation through the dinner.

I'd definitely eat here regularly if I could.  It's a fun meal with a lot of good food for not a lot of money.

Like perhaps a few others, I saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and knew I had to give it a try on my next stop in Omaha.

What better than to celebrate my mother's birthday at this place?  She doesn't try new places often, so I thought it would be a treat.

Right off the bat we were made to feel bad by one of the gentlemen running the operation for not making a reservation.  I actually had read to make a reservation, BUT, we had no idea when we'd be getting to lunch, and I didn't feel like I should have to mold my late morning/afternoon around eating lunch.  Anyhow...

The place was pretty small, so I can understand why reservations are recommended (but again, you shouldn't be made to feel guilty for not making a reservation, I thought that was lousy).  The inside was hip, and contrary to what somebody mentioned in a previous review, I did not feel that this place was "trying too hard" to look hip.  It was a cool place, and comfy.

I ordered the BBQ sandwich with mashed potatoes.  It was pretty affordable (around $7, if I remember correctly).  The food was pretty delicious, but I felt what I ordered to be on the basic side.

The service, though, was dismal.  I felt ignored, and like we were being shunned for not having made a reservation (but it's comforting to see that other people have felt the same way about their service).

I would possibly not return just because of the service.  Nothing special here for me.

By the way, somebody noted that there's outdoor seating... there is not.

I am never disappointed when I stop in! Two friends and I went today for lunch. We didn't have our names "on the list" ... but it turned out we would be fine, and next time I will most definitely call ahead.

Dixie Quicks is just a fun atmosphere and you are helped by people who seem more like your friends than someone who works at or owns the restaurant.

I perused the chalkboard menu and decided on comfort food. I had the pan fried catfish with mashed potatoes and collard greens. I had seen the greens be delivered to a table next to me on a previous visit and made a mental note of it ... and I was glad I did! They were just a bit spicy - tender and flavorful!  The fish had a delicate coating and was  light and crispy (unlike the soggy attempts I have made at home! :-)) It was all so good and served with a piece of moist corn bread (and like a FOOL I forgot to add a touch of honey! DRAT!)

Normally I'd let the food reign the review -- it was pretty good -- but the service was dismal because the place was understaffed. Our guy told us that this was not his normal gig, and I had a certain degree of sympathy... until the umpteenth misstep.

I've, however, heard that the regular staff is great.

FINALLY, we were FINALLY able to eat here.  You see, we have tried, on at least five occasions to eat here.  They are often closed or at least closed when we want to eat here.  But I will say, it was definately worth the wait.

We can in on a Sunday.  Greet immediately by a woman that seemed somewhat put off that we did not have a reservation (who knew--not us).  But there were plenty of tables so it didn't really seem to be an issue.

We were seated in what is not the main dining room, but it was quiet and only had one other table with diners, which was fine with us.

All around there is fun stuff to look at.  Lots of art and interesting people.  The menu is posted on a chalkboard in the main dining room which was not great b/c I had to go stand in the dining room to read it.  The tables are covered with white paper so you can color while dining.

Since it was Sunday morning brunch, i chose the salmon benedict.  I was trying to decide and our lovely waitress really recommended the salmon benedict.  I am not a big hollandaise fan, but she said that was the best part.

When it came, I was totally happy with my selection.  The hollandaise was incredible.  Now I wonder that I really never had good hollandaise so maybe that is why i didn't like it.  In addition, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the salmon was nice.  Came with some home fries which were also good.  Husband got the sausage gravy and biscuit, which is something I would have NEVER got because it is so boring.  I think from his comments that it was nothing special.  Mom got the catcus scramble which from the bite I had was also great.

Can't wait to go back for lunch and dinner.  Doesn't have a liquor license but you can bring in your own.

I have yet to go to DQ for dinner, but I'm hoping that day will come soon...

I've been there for breakfast twice, and both times was very, very happy.  Also both times I ordered the oats and ice cream.  Don't skip that.  So far I've tried several dishes but my favorite is the huevos rancheros.  Black beans and tortilla chips with my breakfast platter is right up my alley... but then again, so is everything here.

Service is always quick and friendly and most importantly, they keep the coffee refills coming all the way through the meal.  Kids (and adults such as myself) will enjoy coloring on the paper table covers.  And, finally, Make Reservations.

Really good food at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is interesting (in an art gallery space), and the menu was fun with some unpredicable touches. My boyfriend got french toast with sexual chocolate. And he's someone who isn't too into sweets but couldn't resist. The french toast was so light and delicious and the chocolate just right so he scarfed the whole thing in record time. And I got the guacamole omlet with the best guac I've had since moving to Omaha 6 months ago.

I'll definitely be back, although with a reservation next time.

We saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Had to give it a try, and we're glad we did.  Just went there once so far, but we do plan to go back.  Our Saturday morning breakfast was good, served promptly and pleasantly, and the price was reasonable.  The menu offered a nice variety, which especially pleased my wife.  Yes, you do need a reservation - the place was packed.

My Dad introduced this place to me in high school because he's friends with the chef's partner. I have to say, this is an awesome place to go for breakfast. It's a great southern experience that I haven't really found anywhere else that I've lived (even in Houston, but I didn't really try in Houston).

Definitely make reservations - the place is tiny! But definitely worth stopping by.

Finally managed to eat breakfast here.  Most of the food was good, the oatmeal with ice cream is a must.  I would like to come back for dinner sometime.

The guy who owns the place traveled all over (San Francisco, New Orleans, Atlanta, etc) and says he incorporates those local flavors into his dishes.

I highly recommend calling in ahead of time to make sure you can reserve a table.

A very good breakfast place.  The menu is written up on a chalk board and changes all the time.  It's a small little place that you can tell is run by locals and they love it.  I was told they always have a local artists work up and it just adds a great vibe to the place.  My favorite thing that was had was the French toast.  It is not your typical French toast, it was very thick slices of brioche bread with just a bit of egg on the top.  It still had some chewiness to it.  If I go back to visit I'd have that for sure.  I did have the tomato basil omelet which had some great flavor but was a bit to watery with the filling.  Check it out it's worth the wait.

I had heard about this place a few years ago, but never knew exactly where it was - I finally tried it about a month ago and have been back three times.  Dixie Quicks has a great breakfast on the weekends and serves lunch and dinner during the week.  I have been for breakfast and dinner and have had great experiences and amazing food every time.  The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent.  It is comfort food with a twist and everything is made from scratch.  They even have an art gallery off the side with rotating exhibits.  I will definitly be back soon to try lunch.

The other reviews say it all. I was introduced to this place several years ago from a pal who knows the owners well. They are the nicest people and funny too. In addition to the many wonderful lunch and dinners I have had there this place has a unique personality that you just feel right at home in. If anyone wants a good laugh they should be sure to check out their website. It is FULL of this personality!
