Ive been coming to Dixie Bones for years. Have always enjoyed the food and supporting a great local joint. The pork BBQ is my favorite, and you should try one of the potatoes with your favorite meat. amazing!
Occasionally you get a really great, fresh roll, but usually they are pretty dry. The rolls don't last very long, but they are generally acceptable. a minor complaint that doesn't tarnish my opinion at all. -

What I liked:
Mac & Cheese, although it was too salty.
They stick it to the man and offer a 3% discount to cash customers, even going so far as to post a class action law suit that was apparently won against Visa and Mastercard by small businessmen. Many people don't realize that by accepting credit cards as payment the vendor is making them a 2% partner in their business. Previously the credit card companies would punish small businesses that offered discounts to cash customers. The end result was all businesses raising prices by 3% to pass the credit card company graft onto the consumer. I applaud any small business that either goes cash only or offers cash discounts.
What I thought was ok:
Corn Bread, although it was a little burned.
What I didn't like:
The ribs were really mediocre, at best. I prefer savory over sweet and this joint seems to emphasize sweet. Their BBQ sauce is too watery and way too sweet for my tastes. Their collared greens were also way too sweet.
At $18 for a half slab of ribs and a couple of sides, I won't be back to give them a second chance. -

Eh...
The service was good and the vibe was right, but I was underwhelmed with the food, on both of my trips to Dixie Bones.
One big issue that I have (you'll find this repeated in some of my other reviews) is the boring meat where the diner adds his/her choice of several sauces. Giving me several sauces to choose from doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy, either... it says, hey, we couldn't figure it out, maybe you can. Adding sauce at the end masks the flavor of the meat; I want the added flavor enhance the flavor of the meat. I'm good with rubs, vinegar based sauces, tomato based sauces, and even mustard flavored sauces, but all of this needs to be handled before the food reaches my plate... adding your own sauce is so Red, Hot, & Blue.
One of my two visits was for the Sunday buffet. It was a busy affair, but the simple selection was more of a chance to get a ton more of the same food you were probably going to order anyway. If you're looking to simply gorge, then you might enjoy it, but I tend to prefer a variety of goodies, so that I can spread myself out and enjoy many dishes at once.
In the interest of full disclosure, I haven't had the ribs, which are supposed to be good. I'd be willing to go back to give them a whirl; otherwise, I'll get my BBQ elsewhere.Listed in: BBQ is king

I like the cabbage at Dixie Bones. The pecan pie is the best around.
The meats are fine. The rolls are dry.
I like the sauces, except that they smell rancid. Good flavor, but they taste old.
It's too expensive for okay food. The place has a sticky table feel. -

I love me some Dixie Bones. Pulled Chicken sandwich with fries and potato salad -- so delish. Organized wait staff and yummy food creates a very nice (casual) dining experience.

I have had a lot of barbecue with many regional influences, but this was terrible. Alabama style sounds promising, but the almost tartar sauce mayo-based bbq sauce is disgusting. Other sauces are much better.
The loaded baked potato was okay. If it went back I would get this again. I was not impressed with the mac & cheese, the tasteless cole slaw, or the fatty and yet dry bbq.
The locals love this place but I fail to see its charm. The quirky atmosphere was a plus, but the dry and overpriced offerings were not.
Pass this one on by. Head up to Urban BBQ in Rockville and Bethesda. -

Dixie Bones has been a family haunt of mine for over 10 years. While the area of Woodbridge's Route 1 corridors has been crumbling for this past decade Dixie Bones has been staying its same tasty self. The staff is helpful and the prices are cheaper than the big chain resturants nearer Potomac Mills. I definitely recommend trying this resturant if you have not had the chance.

Craving some BBQ. Wanted to go to Famous Daves, but thought to myself...I want to go somewhere different and try another BBQ joint. Yelped around and came across this place. Saw all the wonderful reviews about it. Very Impressive. Ordered a lot of the dishes suggested by my fellow Yelpers and got the sweet tea. Wish my experience was the same as yours.
Food: When the meal arrived, it looked really good. Tasted like leftovers. Just because something looks good, it does NOT always mean it TASTES good.
Service: Rude, Sarcastic, and NOT Welcoming to New Comers.
Conclusion: This place is NOT for me.
I'll stick to Famous Daves. -

I'd heard about Dixie Bones for some time, as some of my friends said it's a close to NC barbecue as I'd find up this way. Today I finally found them, and got a pound of puled pork 'cue to go.
Oh my.
The cue was smoked to within an inch of its life. Not too much fat either. It's good enough to eat as-is.
It really doesn't need much in the way of sauce (IMHO, if it needs a lot of sauce, it's crap 'cue ... or you're a yankee) but if you must, both their vinegar- and tomato-based sauces are excellent. The vinegar has a bit of sweetness to it but the tartness still comes through. the tomato sauce is relatively thin, but sweet and smoky with a bit of a spicy bite. -

Really hard to find good BBQ in the DC area but this place pulls it off! Ribs are incredibly tender and meaty. The Sunday buffet is an incredible deal just don't go overboard with the 22oz beers or you wont be able to fit out the door! Only thing I would change are the sauces-wish they would put a bit of work into a couple different combinations.

ohhhhhhhh i HURT MYSELF yesterday at the Sunday buffet. A rare Sunday with nothing to do so we made the drive down from Arlington and oh it was so worth it!!!!!
This is not an extensive old country buffet/ryans buffet filled with bland, buttered, lifeless mush. It features all of the sides and meats of the Dixie Bones menu, prettily lined up on a table. The set up and the restaurant kind of feels like a cozy family BBQ.
I do know what in the hell they do to that cabbage and muddy spuds but I will tell you its magic and I can't get enough. Seriously - who can get nuts about cabbageand potatoes? Mac and cheese is awesome and we really loved the sausage - it had a great smoky flavor with the tell-tale pink on the edges that lets you know its been smoked a long time.
Naturally we had to have pie after - coconut was scrumptious and the pecan pie tasted like Christmas. -

I love BBQ food and this place does it right. The mac-and-cheese, potato salad, pulled pork & beef are amazing. The sweet tea is a perfect compliment. They offer a bunch of different sauces so you can tailor your food just the way you like it. Their Sunday brunch is a great deal, all-you-can-eat for a reasonable price. Just beat the church rush to get a seat without the wait. It's a little pricey but I think it's worth it.
This place is nothing fancy, far from it, but it's a great lunch or dinner spot. My favorite time to go is brunch on Sundays! -

On our way to NY and lots traffic on 95 and lunch time looked on my handy yelp and found this restaurant when everything else was fast food and a truly an OASIS. The Corn bread a must. Had half rack of ribs and cole slaw (yummy) Mac & cheese, wonderful, great service, clean and thanks for the great food on my way home. Keep up the good work.

This is some awesome-sauce BBQ, and I'm not even referring to the sauce. Beautiful smoke rings and a nice hickory flavor across all of the meats. I had the chance to taste the pulled pork, the catfish, the brisket, spare ribs, and a baked potato (which was a great option for my vegetarian partner). In the end, everything was great, with the mild caveat that the service was very enthusiastic, almost too much so, to the point that it became intrusive. But given the quality of the food, the price, as well as the inherent enthusiasm of our server, this is definitely five stars.

Dixie Bones is my favorite spot for BBQ! Originating from Birmingham, Alabama, Dixie Bones slow cooks their meat (Pit BBQ) over hickory logs for 12 to 14 hours.
This unique style of cooking provides the smokey flavor and natural tenderness to the meat while eliminating excess fat and use of preservatives. In addition, everything is made from scratch. Their fried catfish is crispy (not oily) and collard greens tasty! Our three meat combo plate with mac-n-cheese, two orders or cornbread and HUGE baked potatoes came out in ten minutes. There was enough food to feed four adults. The waitress consistently stopped by our table to ensure our drinks were filled as well. Dixie Bones...I heart you! -

I went here with a friend after a day on the golf course. I was not sure what to expect. The pork was pretty good with a smoky flavor, not quite Carolina BBQ, but not bad. The ribs were tasty, although I think the sauce made them. As for the sides, tasty muddy spuds and the collard greens were flavorful. The cornbread was a little to dry for my taste!
Overall a pretty good BBQ spot for Northern Virginia. -

What a place.
Excellent BBQ. Damn tasty. Great sweet tea. The ribs are amazing in this joint.
One must basque in the sauces of ribs and fight to bite every last piece of meat on the bone. We are wild and undomesticated during the process of eating our ribs. We are territorial and we do not joke around. For such a wild experience Dixie Bones is simply an amazing place.
Service is very very friendly and they will educate you a bit on what BBQ really means. How the meat is smoked for 24 hours and what type of wood need to be used to get the right amount of smoke from these large smokers that you can catch a glimpse of if you look to your right when you enter.
Meat is an obsession for Dixie Bones. The art of patiently treating it so they can first of all eat it to taste their immaculate creation and more importantly watch your face take multiple shades of DAMN YEAH while you treat yourself to a peace of rib or pulled bbq chicken or beef...This is what they live for.
The restaurant has a take out area as well for those of you that want to grab ribs and climb a mountain, lets say, to enjoy wild wild fun in the wild. :-)
Just try it.

Been to all the big chain barbecue restaurants in northern VA and nothing quite hits the spot as well as Dixie Bones.
The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside. Inside, various knick knacks line the walls to give the place a very eclectic feel. Seating seems fairly limited, but there has been no wait for the two times I have eaten here.
The one-page menu is straight forward. Items aren't cooked to order, obviously, so the time it takes for the food to arrive is just a few minutes. I usually get the ribs and pulled pork as the meats. I have tried the 1/2 chicken once before, but it was dry and tough. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender. Delicious! The pulled pork is fantastic as well. All the meats come "dry" and you have your choice of dressing them with four types bbq sauces at the table. For the sides, the fries and "dixie chips" are typical deep-fried potatoes, nothing worth noting. Mac-and-cheese is decent. The baked beans are very sweet; I don't normally order beans, but these would probably be my go-to side item at this spot. The cornbread is not very sweet, which is the traditional style of cornbread, so bear that in mind when ordering.
Service is terrific here! We have had Shannon as our server twice and he is very friendly and accommodating. Very talkative guy that likes to chat up all his tables. He also was generous enough to bring us pork bones to take home for the dog.
Prices can be moderately high here, but portion sizes are just right to fill me up. If you pay with cash, you also receive a ~5% discount on your total. -
Review from Steve L.
2.5 Stars.
The service is great, but the food is forgettable. Between everything the four of us ate, only the ribs were decent. They had a smoky flavor to them and were very tender and came off the bone very easily. They were, however, a bit on the cold side.
All the "pulled" pork and chicken were just cubes of dry, bland meat that required heavy doses of sauce. The four or five sauces themselves are nothing great but I did learn that if you mix them together you'll have smelly memories to last you the rest of the night.
The mac n cheese was ok-more mushy and eggy than anything cheesy.
Muddy spuds were alright though I wouldn't go out of my way for them.
The cornbread was dry and tasted like it was all cornmeal.
All in all a huge disappointment after reading these reviews. But it could be worse. -

Great BBQ but business people beware -- they do not accept AMEX! :) Somewhat of an inconvenience when you're dropping $300 for an office lunch. Discount for cash customers too so anyone using plastic is already paying for the transaction anyway. Management should rethink this and this B2B buyer might be back - in the meantime I'll stick with Famous Dave's for big events.

If you want the worst buns I ever ate come to this place. Supposedly the buns are so bad so the BBQ sauce won't leak through. The buns are the reason I quit going to this place. And they are pickle crazy, I have to tell them over and over "Do NOT put pickles on my sandwish" and they will do it anyway. So I prefer to go to Allman's in Fredericksberg.

So, this place is actually labelled as part of a rest stop. Weird, who knew rest stop food could be so good?
This is really more of a 3.5 star place. The wait staff is definitely super friendly, they want to make sure you know what you are ordering and you are enjoying your dish.
I got one of the platters - pulled pork, corn bread, collard greens, and baked beans.
Pulled pork and the array of sauces. All right, so the pulled pork can't really stand on its own. This is try, and why I demoted my rating to 3 stars. It definitely needs some sauce to juice it up a notch. However, this could be because the high-sodium American diet has skewed our taste buds. Nevertheless, this was a solid pulled pork. Here is a list of their sauces if you want to know what you are getting into: (Labeled by their dispenser top color and description taken off their napkin dispenser)
Black or Brown top - traditional tomato bbq sauce - not hot - just a tad spicy!
Yellow Top - Mild tomato bbq sauce, made to enhance the great, smoky flavor of ribs (I thought this was too watery.)
Red Top - Vinegar BBQ sauce - for pork
Almond Top - An Alabama specialty made for chicken, also good on pork. (I liked this one, it was creamy.)
The sides, I personally think can be shared, so you can each get some thing different. The baked beans were sweet, and a little vinegary, makes my mouth water when I think about it. I wanted to be healthy, so I ordered the collard greens. They are a sore for sight eyes, the dark green color doesn't help your appetite, but they taste sweet and just right.
Yes to the corn bread, you can get a roll anywhere. The corn bread was fluffy and light.
Note: I got here at 8:30 pm, they close at 9 pm, and there was a still a 10 min. wait.
Next time I need a rest stop, I am definitely coming here...but I might be ordering the mac and cheese instead of the greens. -

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We have friends who come to Woodbridge JUST for Dixie Bones. Additionally, my parents always want to stop in when they visit from out of town.
The service is outstanding. The people there are so sweet and they hurry to get you to a table. During peak hours, there is a wait, but it goes quickly as the food is served at record speed. There is a Sunday buffet that my husband calls "All you can Throw Down, Sunday" and you can try a little bit of everything, but get there early. There is always a line out the door when they open!
I have had about everything on the menu. The stuffed potatoes are no joke, they are full of your choice of meats, cheese, sour cream and BBQ sauce. Great choice for lunch. They are so big, I usually half them and take the other half home for later.
The combo platters are great too. I like the pulled chicken. GET THE MUDDY SPUDS. I cook a lot and have tried to re-create these many times with no success. Not sure what they put in these, but everyone we take orders them every single time.
Excellent food, excellent customer service. This is a little, out of the way BBQ joint run by people who just love to serve good BBQ. Give it a try and you will be so glad you found this great spot. -

Food/Service = C
The food is okay. Definitely not the best BBQ, but I guess it's probably the best in Woodbridge. They give a pretty good portion.
I do believe the price is rather steep for a hole-in-the-wall spot... But when you don't have competition, i guess you can charge whatever it is you like. -

Woodbridge, VA
All the pork BBQ and sides that I've had here have been solid. It also gets extra points for being one of the only good places to eat in Woodbridge. I have to say I'm bias to NC BBQ, and while Dixie Bones isn't quite as good as some places down South, it gives you optoins by providing you with a variety of sauces (vinegar based, tomato based, milk based?).
If you have a small group it's fun to order the BBQ by the pound and get a bunch of sides (mac and cheese, cole slaw, and dixie chips) to share. Both the homemade buns and cornbread are a little dry for my taste. It's some of the best BBQ in NOVA and can at least hold you over until you head South for a fix. -
Review from Lisa R.
Dixie Bones is nothing short of a heavenly BBQ vacation in your mouth.
You know a local restaurant is good when you go to a friends BBQ thirty five+ miles away, and the following conversation occurs:
Me (with a full mouth): This... tastes... familiaOMG WHERE DID U GET THIS?!
Awesome Friend: I drove out to this place in Woodbridge.
Me: You mean....
Group Unison High-Five: Dixie Bones, Yay!!!
Okay, so maybe it didn't happen *exactly* like that, but close enough for distant friends to also be enamoured enough with this food place to drive 35+ miles out of their way to pick up some DB.
The art this eatery is in the sauce, which is available in the following flavors: Yellow Top, Black or Brown Top, Almond Top, Red Top... Maybe these aren't the exact names, but it's how they are separated for you on the table, and fortunately for us literate folks, each table has an explanation of what these are, and what type of meat they go best with. The sauces with the Black/Brown and Yellow Tops are my favorite... I have no idea what's in 'em, I just know it gets in my belly and makes me sleepy and happy.
My (current) culinary obsession with DB is the loaded baked potato with shredded pork, everything in the world on top, and a ton of BBQ sauce to dip (or soak) your meat, potatoes, and cheese in.
The sides are nothing to scoff at either, I pretty much always hate greens and cole slaw, but will order both of these when I go to DB as an alternative for something slightly less heavy than the (unforgetably thick and delicious) mac&cheese.
Sweet Tea! Again, another thing I was never a fan of until DB came along, but I can't come here without getting some ST. Soooooo so good, yum.
Everything on the menu is worth trying, which is why I also recomend the * drum roll please * ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT-BBQ... Good Lordy Wonderful World of Warcraft, why didn't I think of this sooner? The AYCE-BBQ is only available Sundays (why?!?!?!), so if you're in the mood to feast on some pigs (while you laugh at the comical figurines of piglets at your table), and you feel like loosening your belt on a Sunday afternoon with some good home cookin' - GET YOUR A$$ OVER HERE!Listed in: Meat Cravings, My ROTDs

Been eating here 10 years or more. The chocolate pie is a must. They have a huge baked potato with BBQ atop = very good choice. I just get a regular pork sandwich, with the brown-top sauce, beans, and the pie. One of the first places to get sweet tea and real Southern cooking coming South on I-95 out of America's a$$hole - Maryland. Bring a big appetite - you will get full.

This is hands down the best BBQ restaurant in the DC/MD/VA area. We have gone to Dixie Bones quite a few times and always had a really good time. The service was great, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is awesome. We had the pulled pork, the sausage and don't get me started on the mac and cheese and collard greens. They make BBQ the way it should be made. It's quite a ways from where we live now in MD, but every now and then we will take that drive and its always worth it. I also like that the waiters can swipe your card right at the table, which let's you get out rather quickly when you are ready to go.
If you live near Woodbridge and have never been then its a shame, but if you live in Woodbridge and have never been then its a down right tragedy. Stop whining and saying you want good BBQ and get your butt up, drive over to Dixie Bones and go get some!!
P.S. They cater too. -
Review from Todd P.
I realize that some of the best barbecue comes from shacks that look like they should be condemned. Dixie Bones is a bright spot in an otherwise blighted, eyesore of a neighborhood with pawn shops and abandoned lots.
After trying Dixie Bones quite a few times now, I am a big fan of their pulled pork sandwich and barbecue chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, and mac n' cheese, not so much their beef. The sandwiches come on these great buns, but I do wish they had "combos" that come with sides, as doing to a la carte really adds up. They do have "plates" that come with two sides, but frankly I think they're kind of pricey running in the $12-24 range. $24 for barbecue? Come on... On the flip side, their Sunday buffet is an awesome deal at $14 which lets you try a little bit of everything and go back for more.
Another odd thing about their pricing is that they take issue with credit card merchant fees, so they have a little spiel on their menu about how expensive these fees are and the prices are broken out into cash and credit card. While I understand merchant fees stink, this is kind of lame. I use a debit card almost exclusively and merchants just have to accept this as the price of doing business.Comment from Nelson H. of Dixie Bones BBQ 1/24/2011

Six words: All you can eat BARBECUE buffet. Have you ever heard of anything more fantastic? I seriously think it's the solution to world peace. If North and South Korea discussed their differences over a spread like the one found at Dixie Bones, I am pretty sure they could resolve almost everything (except, of course, which of Dixie Bones' four barbecue sauces is best...).
The most remarkable thing may very well be that E and I were LOST when we found this place, trying to get from Mount Vernon to Manasses Battlefield in our economy rental car that was SO economy that it only gave us one armrest and crank windows. I didn't even know crank windows still existed!
Anyways, we got tired of the gridlock traffic on the highway at noon on a Sunday and decided to take the next exit and turn around. While on said turn-around, we discovered that we were starving and decided to do BBQ instead of McD's. Little did we know that we were about to stumble not onto a chain barbecue with dry brisket and pre-made potato salad but an EPIPHANY. (the potato salad may or may not have been pre-made...doesn't matter.).
A BBQ buffet is ingenious. You get a portion of every single meat and side that normally causes an internal struggle when trying to decide ("Do I want collards? Mac and cheese? Coleslaw? Potato salad? Damn you, BBQ, why must you have so many delicious sides and then force me to pick only ONE?!?!? *crying ensues*). You can load up your plate, down it with sweet tea, and then get another plate. If you REALLY mean business, you can top the meal off with a slice of sweet potato pie. Or coconut cream pie. Or pecan pie. Maybe all three!
I walked out of there a little fatter and a few years closer to death, but I don't really care. Because I ate barbecue. At an all you can eat buffet. And it was awesome. 'Nuf said. -

I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans and cole slaw, and a piece of pecan pie.
I was a little disappointed until I got to the pie...that pie was...mmmmmmmm. I don't even like sweet stuff, or desserts in general, but after reading some other reviews, I thought I'd give it a try.
The BBQ was OK, but I'm from the south, and it was no southern BBQ. I've definitely had worse, but there is room for improvement in their sauces. I tried the tomato based and the vinegar based, and they are both missing.......something.
The baked beans were too sweet for me. I don't know if that makes sense, but they had too much.......something. :-o maybe that extra something in the beans is what the sauce needs? :-p
The service is very good, and VERY fast. You can't even squeeze the lemon into your sweet tea before the plate brought to you. All the employees are also very friendly. -

I have been dying to come here forever! So finally, I ventured down with a friend for lunch and it was sooo GOOOOD!
I went with the 2 meat combo, thinking I would take the leftovers home for dinner, but I killed the whole thing. I went with the ribs and pork with fried potato "chips" with mac and cheese for the kid.
The pork is tender, the ribs are tender, and made just the way I like. Dry, so that I can add whichever sauce I like. there are 4 sauces on the table, and all pretty good. The mac and cheese was eh.. not too good.. neither was the cornbread. I did taste my friends bread pudding, and it was YUMMM.
I'll have to come back for their Sunday buffet and just eat myself sick. -

We've had Dixie Bones about 4-5 times since our first visit and it has gotten better each time we've gone!
In fact so much so we hired them to cater our wedding rehearsal dinner!
The main thing thats gotten better is the meat! The chicken, pulled pork, and ribs are all much more tender and juicy.
We've also tried the mac n cheese and cabbage sides. The mac n cheese is solid and the cabbage is awesome!
Also the chocolate pie and apple cobbler are pretty yummy and worth a try.
We're really glad we gave them a 2nd chance!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

What's the perfect post-funeral dining experience? Well, BBQ, of course.
My dining partner in crime plied me to attend a wake with him by promising me that I could go to any restaurant I wanted to after. What can I say? I'm a whore for the Q.
Dixie Bones serves up Alabama style BBQ, a style not dissimilar to NC BBQ or Memphis/ KC style. I would classify the meat as very similar to Memphis style, but the sauce a little more like Lexington NC style, much runnier and vinegary than the thick sweet sauces one gets in KC or Memphis. Truth be known, I prefer my KC style BBQ and sauces over this, but, damn, it sure is good!
We both had the two meat combos. I had the pulled pork with smoked chicken on the bone. My dining partner in crime had the pulled pork and pulled chicken. The combos come with 2 sides. We sampled the Baked beans, Cole slaw and muddy potatoes ( kind of like home fries). All were exceptional, especially the cole slaw.
Dinners come with your choice of bread. We both chose the corn bread, but it wasn't to my liking. Too dry.
If you go... save room for dessert. Good God those pies are awesome. We ordered one piece of Pecan and one piece of Coconute Custard. All pies are made in house, and clearly by someone who knows how to make a pie. The pecan pie was still cooling from the oven, so it was just a little warm. Undoubtedly the best Pecan pie I've tasted in a long time.
I still contend that Johnny Boy Ribs is the best overall BBQ in the metro area, but this runs a close second. You have to drive past Smokey Bones and Famous Daves to get there, you would crazy to stop at one of those places before stopping here. This is the real deal. -

I was told this was the best BBQ in the area, so I had to try it. I went with my sister and bro-in-law. He ordered whatever dish came with 3 types of meat. I just got the ribs. I was pleased with it, but it wasn't amazing. The food was served quickly, but was rather cold. He, on the other hand, felt horrible after the meal and actually puked! Says he will never go back, though my sister and I think they were having an off day and might make a trip back in a while.

3.75 stars. I have long stated that there is no good BBQ in DC proper. Unfortunately, there are slim pickings even for the greater DC area. Thankfully, despite all the mediocre spots that line the District, there is one shining beacon of BBQ culinary heaven located in tiny Woodbridge, VA. Enter Dixie Bones BBQ - a BBQ restaurant devoted to providing its patrons with BBQ served up the way it is in my home state of Alabama. Roll Tide.
What's Alabama style BBQ, you ask? Well, we like to eat slow cooked pork ribs basted in a spicy hybrid tomato-vinegar mixture. It's basically a marriage of the North Carolina style and the Kansas City/Memphis style of sauces slathered over some of the tastiest pigs you'll ever eat. While I have had superior pork ribs across the State of Alabama (Dreamland's BBQ in Tuscaloosa, AL and the Brick Pit in Mobile, AL quickly come to mind), there is no question that Dixie Bones is representative and true to the region.
And if you (somehow) don't like the aforementioned sauce, Dixie Bones provides three alternative sauces that you can use for your BBQ. You can also try various meats, but why order brisket at an Alabama BBQ place? That's like ordering pork ribs in Texas. It's fine if you want variety, but places specialize for a reason.
For dessert, you have several great choices, but you can never go wrong with a nice pecan pie. Sure, the pie is more representative of neighboring Georgia, but Dixie Bones makes a good pie. It's certainly a great capper to your meal.
Overall, Dixie Bones is a solid choice for BBQ made in the tradition of one of the stalwart states for the cuisine. If you live in Woodbridge, you should try this place immediately (unless you have an aversion to eating meat). If you live in DC, it's certainly worth the drive to try something that best resembles an actual meal from the Deep South.Listed in: Intro to BBQ, I'm from the Deep South,…
