Probably my favorite restaurant at Disneyland at reasonably priced!
After reading reviews here, we tried the monte cristo, the gumbo, the pomme frites, and the salmon salad. ALL DELICIOUS. Thank you yelpers!!! You were very right. Was fantastic!
The pomme frites are so tasty; covered in like parmesean cheese, dipped in a special sauce. Mmmm mmmm Good!
Monte Cristo is the best heart attack waiting to happen!!! I tried to be healthy by ordering the salmon salad, which was cooked to perfection, but I should've ordered the Monte Cristo for myself. It's not everyday that I let myself eat a fried sandwich. Although sometimes I wish I did!!!
Wouldn't it be insane to batter and deep fry every sandwich imaginable? Take a classic pastrami piled high and deep fry that. Or, how about a rueben with sauerkraut. Better yet, just take an entire burger and deep fry that sucker. Your arteries would be screaming in agonizing pain. But your taste buds would thank you profusely.
We ate lunch here for one thing and one thing only, the Monte Cristo. I had never tried it, so now was the chance as an adult. As a kid, never in a million years would my parents give me a deep fried battered sandwich. You know how hard I begged just to get a Mickey-shaped lollipop? I considered it a major accomplishment.
But now it was time. Upon first glance, the Monte Cristo cut up into 4 wedges looked like the product of some kid's cooking class evil fantasy, dusted wildly with powdered sugar, and hastily accompanied a few vines of red grapes. I smeared some of the provided berry puree and took a bite. Surprisingly, everything worked well together.
The turkey, ham, and cheese were all so evenly distributed, that not one particular flavor or ingredient overpowered the other. The sweetness of the puree definitely gives a nice balance to the savory sandwich. The deep fried crust was not oily or greasy at all, and popping in the grapes was also a nice and fruity change. It was all so harmonious.
Unless you're morbidly obese or have a extreme affinity to deep fried foods, 2 pieces per person is more than enough. Any more than that, your stomach will immediately start feeling heavy. My wife and I easily shared the Monte Cristo, and along with the Pommes Frittes (standard but extremely addicting garlic parmesan fries), even had enough room to share dessert.
What really whet our whistle was the Royal Street Banana Bread Pudding. Caramelized bananas, vanilla bean creme anglaise (I learned what that was from Top Chef), along with caramel sauce and whipped cream. The bread just completely soaked all of these wonderful flavors, and everything wasn't too sweet. Good service overall. I would definitely return, when the deep fried sandwich monster within me, begs for more.

took my boyfriend here for his birthday :D
the pomme fries were so filling and good ! the gumbo was a little too spicy for his taste but i thought it was perfect.
the monte crisco - dont get it if youre not really hungry. it was wayy too deepfried and got disgusting after 2 bites. we had to throw it away .
the waitress also gave my bf a free mickeymouse shaped dessert :]
try to get a seat outside and you have a view of the lake. i didn't like the inside because i slipped on their floor in my flip flops and the chefs saw ._.
One of the few sit down dinning at DL. If you cant get a seat at Blue Bayou this is the 2nd best place to go. We love the pomme frites and beignets ( not sure of the spelling ) But I love the Ratatouille and of course the famous Monte Cristos. My close friend used to make these all the time..miss it! Sit outside and people watch. Its amazing what type of people come to DL nowadays.

Overrated! Monte cristo was overly breaded. Service was ok but it might've just been our server. All other servers smiled more. The other servers gave their table with a birthday dessert. I got nothing and I had my birthday button in plain sight.
My boyfriend had the salmon salad. The salmon was dry and the salad tasted like it was just seasoned with pepper and oil.
Who knows? Maybe we just ordered the wrong items and our waiter was having a bad day.
This place is great! Definitely my favorite dining spot in Disneyland. You get a lot of food for the price you pay. The Creole Ratatouille was delicious! I followed it with the St. Charles Mixed Berry Crêpe for dessert and it was just plain good! The music performances make the place feel like New Orleans and are very entertaining. You'll really enjoy it with family and friends. I highly recommend it!
For a restaurant in an amusement park, this place is great. Our food was delicious and the service was excellent. My girlfriend had made a reservation for 7pm and we showed up at 7:15pm because we were delayed by a parade and yet the still seated us pretty quickly with a long line of people.
I love gumbo and ratatouille and yet I can only think of like 3 places in orange county where I can find gumbo. I ordered a bowl of gumbo and it was so delicious I wished I had just ordered two of them rather than a bowl of gumbo and the ratatouille entree. The gumbo was spicy with chicken and andouille sausage in a thick sauce with a serving of rice heaped on top. If it didn't look like a classy restaurant I would have licked the plate clean - well that and I didn't want to embarass my girlfriend on her birthday.
Our server Sandee recommended adding meat to the ratatouille since it was a vegetarian dish and I wanted meat with my meal. They don't tell you this on the menu but she offered it to us when my girlfriend asked her for recommendations. The ratatouille as served with asparagus, a version of corn bread made with another vegetable like corn whose name escapes me. From the menu:
Creole Ratatouille - A N'awlins twist on a French favorite! Savory vegetable ragout, with tomato, eggplant, red onion, bell pepper, squash, zucchini, and fresh garlic - seasoned to perfection and served with corn cakes topped with grana padano cheese.
It lived up to its name and was delicious. I also recieved a grilled breast of chicken but it was very dry. I was lucky the tomato sauce of the ratatouille was able to balance it out
Sandee also recommended the pomogranate lemonade. It was very sweet but it tasted more like pomogranate ice tea than lemonade.
OMG, all I've ever had is their gumbo and their Monte Cristo sandwich, and that is enough! Actually, the Monte Cristo sandwich is enough. I have seriously considered getting a year pass to Disneyland just so I can go there to eat. I'm not kidding.
I went there with my sister because I wanted gumbo, but I was too tired to get one from a stand and then eat it while walking around. So, we went to Cafe Orleans and ordered a bowl of gumbo plus the Monte Cristo sandwich, which we'd never heard of but figured we should get so that we could feel more full and make it through the long day ahead of us.
HOLY MOLY, unexpected deliciousness! A party in your mouth! A virtual plethora, a veritable cornucopia of flavors!
Go there! It will not disappoint.
But any other Monte Cristo sandwich you try afterwards will.
It was a fried food -filled day. We arrived at Disneyland pretty late and so we decided to start at the café because we heard that it's hard to get a seat and there's usually a wait. We came about 5 minutes till 11am, which is when they open and put our names on the list. About 10 minutes later, each waiter actually comes out, calls your names and escorts you to a table. Turns out that the outside tables are "preferred seating" and you have to be put on a separate list for that and it's typically a longer wait. We didn't know this so we had to sit inside right next to the kitchen. The inside is actually pretty tiny - maybe 10 tables or so. At least that's all I could see. Most everyone got to sit outside and have a view of the hustle and bustle of Disneyland.
Anyways we had a read on some food blog what the best things were on the menu that were must-trys. We started with the pommes frites. It's just fries with lots and lots of garlic. It came out nice and hot in a basket with some sort of odd dipping sauce. It tasted like Thousand Island dressing to me and didn't like it too much. Then we split the Monte Cristo, a deep fried ham and cheese sandwich. Man oh man, was it so very rich. I'm glad I only had half of one. It was good up until halfway though (so a quarter of the sandwich) before the gooeyness of the cheese started turning me off. I had seen on the menu there's a three cheese Monte Cristo too and I probably would not have been able to get through that. Oh but I liked that it was accompanied by a blackberry jam. And we ended our meal with the Mickey Mouse beignets - which are basically Mickey shaped donuts with different dipping sauces. The donuts were light and fluffy but not glazed. And I really liked the sauces - raspberry jam and liquid icing. I even used the jam from the Monte Cristo. Both my friend and I felt kinda sick at the end of our meal because of all three courses were fried. And we still had the whole day ahead of us at Disneyland. So the sandwich was like 16 bucks, which I totally think isn't worth it. The fries and donuts were less than 10. But it's Disneyland so I expect the food to be way overpriced. The food was delicious and I definitely recommend all three of the dishes we had. Just some advice - don't do what we did and eat them all in one sitting. It's not a good idea.
Good: Good food and friendly staff. Like the Blue Bayou, they serve Monte Cristo sandwiches and have unlimited refills of Mint Juleps.
Bad: Our beignets were overcooked the last time we went, no bueno. And being only one of two table service restaurants in Disneyland, Priority Seating is highly recommended, especially on a busy day.
We had some tasty Pomme Frites (light garlic fries with lots of Parmesan cheese), the "Crescent City" Salmon Salad (fresh and delectable), the three-cheese Monte Cristo (delicious if you're into the fusion of sweet jam and what is essentially a deep fried grilled cheese), and finished off with the usually mouth watering beignets but this last trip was a flop.
Final: Would recommend if you want a table service restaurant in Disneyland. A GREAT alternative to the always booked Blue Bayou especially if you want a Monte Cristo and unlimited Mint Juleps.
We came here for lunch so we didn't have to wait as we put our names in before they opened. However, at 11:30, when the doors open, at least 10 wait staff walked out and started calling "Name, party of 2" etc. and it got a little confusing and hectic!
We just needed a little snack, so my husband ordered a bowl of gumbo (not on the menu - a cup is, but they do have a bowl for $7.99), I ordered a cup of French Onion soup and we ordered Pommes Frites to share - an amazingly delicious plate of fries immersed in garlic and cheese with what I think was an extremely yummy cajun mayonnaise dip. Oh, and we can't forget the heavenly Mint Julep that I have now become addicted to after this weekend! I have been lucky enough to find a copycat recipe online though, so we'll see if it's the same!
Service was quick and the price tag wasn't bad for Disneyland. Yes, we only ordered appetizers and their main meals cost more, but for a snack, it was reasonable and more than enough food.
I was expecting to eat overpriced and unhealthy food at Disneyland. I hadn't been in over 10 years and only remember eating churros and mickey mouse shaped ice cream bars. (Okay, I still did that this time bu that's besides the point).
We tried the Cafe Orleans and were pleasantly surprised. My friend and I both had the salmon salad. It was fantastic! Grapes, well cooked salmon (and coming from Seattle where I ate salmon at least once a week for 25 years that's something), the dressing...it all worked. We couldn't get enough and it was a pretty big plate.
Service: After eyeing other people's plates, my friend wanted extra grapes (included with the monte cristo) but the server told her it would cost $2.99 on the side. Instead, he snuck in extra grapes under the leaves in her salad. It was a nice touch and very kind.
I felt healthy and happy and ready to splurge my calories on the churro cart since I had been so good for lunch.
The fact that this place now serves the Monte Cristo Sandwich has me sold. No more waiting in line or calling a few days in advance to get in on the blue bayou. Now I can enjoy my deep fried sandwich at my own leisure at this wonderful cafe.
Outside seating also lets you do a bit of people watching, which is always fun in itself. While you're sitting back you're more than likely going to get a taste of why they call this New Orleans square. With jazz and dixie land music going on in the back ground, it's a fun experience to be had.
But don't forget the Monte Cristo Sandwich. You can't come here and not have it. It's as simple as that.

So I highly recommend the Monte Cristo. It's a ham and cheese sandwich deep fried in batter. On the side is some sort of blue berry sauce which compliments the sandwich really well. This is to DIE FOR!!! Its soo good, but i'll probably eat it only once a year b/c theres so much calories in that thing.
A lot of their other plates are good as well.

i haven't eaten in disneyland in years, but read the reviews and decided to check it out. We made a reservation when we got there for 12:00, and by the time we had made our way over it was packed. We sat down, looked at the menu and decided between the array of salads, and sandwiches. I ordered a blackened chicken caesar salad, while the rest of my party ordered 2 salmon salads and a chicken sandwich. We started with the delicious pomme frites, which our like crack. Absolutely amazing!! We were happy that they served mint juleps as well, with free refills. My salad was good, and everybody was happy with their meal. It was pricey, but at least it was a sit down restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.
Located roughly across the Blue Bayou, you can usually get a seat at Cafe Orleans (unlike Blue Bayou, that almost always requires advanced reservation). By Disneyland standards, the food is good.
I recommend both the "Pommes Frites" and "Three-Cheese Monte Cristo." The Pommes Frites are essentially French fries covered with Parmesan cheese, garlic, and other ingredients. The fries come with a dip.
The Three-Cheese Monte Cristo includes Swiss, mozzarella, Brie, and a berry mash.
The Pommes Frites is $4.99 -- a great price, considering Disney inflation. Contrastingly, the Three-Cheese Monte Cristo is about $16.
Service is great. The wait can be long -- depending on the day and time that you visit.
Certainly, this is my favorite restaurant in all of Disneyland.

The employees were dressed a little funny (if you ask me) but I guess that's what they need to do in order to get into character.. I loved the music they were playing, it made me feel like I was in New Orleans.
Everything else was new to me,NOT.. so I had what looked good.
The strawberry cheesecake.. yum I can still taste it...I made a great choice .. = ) The sandwiches and salads didn't look very appealing..
Well N E ways Disneyland will always be torture for me, but I loved this place in Disneyland..
Since my boyfriend got us Annual Passes, I decided to forgo Blue Bayou and give Cafe Orleans another try. This time, we ordered the pommes frites, gumbo and salmon salad, which was the perfect amount of food for two people. The salmon salad was actually really good. I also ordered the Pirate's Punch (basically pink lemonade). It supposedly comes with a souvenir pirate cup but mine came in a Cars cup (eh?). For $7, it was a little pricey but at least it came with refills.
I was a little bummed out that they ran out of beignets again. I made 6:30pm reservations in hopes of getting some too *pouts* I should've ordered them when the waiter took our order instead of waiting to finish our meal. Oh wells, there's always a next time right?...
Oh...and our server this time was a lot more attentive = +1 star. So overall 4 stars =)

This is what happens when this restaurant is all the way in socal when my butt is up in norcal:(
Now, it's just a regular whatever disney lunch spot. Still better than most places in the park, but the breakfast was what stood out!

Being a poor and "thrifty" (i.e. cheap) student, eating at Disneyland has always been my personal equivalent to the tenth circle of hell (I'm only slightly exaggerating). Entrance into the park itself having left me half-broke, I usually end up sharing a sad pizza or skewer with a friend. Successfully finding food that's actually worth the exorbitant prices charged is another story.
But lo, such food exists in the form of Cafe Orleans! Perhaps the fact that my admission was free meant I was willing to spend more money on food. Perhaps I got lucky and ordered the right thing. Perhaps I was just starving and would have happily stomached a rubber tire. But my meal was not only adequately priced but also well worth it!
We knew we were in for a long wait, but ratatouille and seafood crepe were simply too appetizing to pass up for greasy pizza and burgers. An excruciating 20 minutes later we were seated, and 10 minutes later the food arrived.
The Creole Ratatouille was a surprising hit. The two corn cakes were soft and delicious and paired well with the vegetable ragout. There was just enough tomato to provide moisture without overpowering the dish. Overall the plate lacked a strong kick and was therefore more Italian than creole, but the veggies were seasoned well and the flavors were strong (mm garlic).
My friend ordered the French Quarter Blackened Chicken Caesar and complained that the chicken was so dry he couldn't eat it. Sad, but what do you expect from a caesar salad anyway?
And what better way to end a meal than with a complimentary birthday beignet? It was a little tough and too sweet, but hey at least it was free!
With good flavors and prices like a Cheesecake Factory, Cafe Orleans has become my new spot for good Disneyland food. Next time I'll try that crepe. And make a reservation.
I actually came here with my sister and I for my birthday. We made a reservation for 7:15ish and arrived there at around 7:10. They put you in the list to get seated right away as soon as you get there.
Food wise, I was not as impressed as I expected to be for the Blackened Chicken Sandwich thingie. I don't even remember the real name. The chicken itself was okay. My sister got the Salmon Fillet from the kid's menu. The salmon was cooked perfectly with seasoning. However her noodles were dry and probably overcooked.
On my second visit here, the Monte Cristo was very very sweet for a dinner entree. My friends and I really thought we were eating dessert instead of our main course. Service however was great and I'd rather come here then the Blue Bayou.
If you don't have reservations for Blue Bayou, this is a very close second. Although it lacks the Pirates of the Caribbean ambiance, Cafe Orleans basically has the same menu (Monte Cristo sandwich, beignets, Mint Juleps) and you don't have to tip a waiter or waitress at the end of the meal. It's basically Blue Bayou without the Blue. Or Bayou.

The Pommes Frites and Monte Cristo at this place are deadly, in a good way. Been trusting the Yelpers a lot on this trip and we didn't go wrong when we went to the Cafe Orleans. We wanted someplace to eat that didn't have the normal park flair of hamburgers and pizza, and also that would provide us a place to sit down, out the way of the other park goers.
Wait Time: So I guess by nature this place is busy to begin with so don't expect to walk up and just sit down. They quoted us with a wait time of 10-30 minutes, and it was fairly accurate as we waited about 15 minutes before they sat us. I'm sure wait times are longer later in the evening when Fantasmic is going to happen. Kinda sucked for this large group in front of us as their party of 9 apparently made reservations but when they arrived they had to wait because the Cafe lost their reservation, so beware on that one.
Food: After reading the reviews I had to try the Monte Cristo while my companion had some kind of chicken sandwich. We also got an order of the Pommes Frites. The fries came first and I have to say I was blown away. By themselves, these fries are sprinkled with parmesan and garlic so they taste pretty good already--BUT when you add that Cajun spice remoulade they serve with it as well it becomes a party in your mouth I tell you. One of those little cups alone will not be enough so be sure to get yourself at least two. Also, be sure to eat the fries within 10-15 minutes as they cool down pretty quick.
Now, the entrees . . . who knew a fried sandwich with berry sauce could be so good. I was a little hesitant at first but after the second bite I was sold. The sandwich had so much crispy and cheezy goodness that it was pretty amazing. Just the batter that they dip and fry it in alone is pretty good by itself. It gets the cheese all melted and gooey. But when you add that berry puree it just kicks it up a notch. I also got a bite of my companion's chicken sandwich and I have to say that it also was pretty good as well.
Service: I think service is hit or miss at this place. On the one hand our waitress we had seemed a bit inattentive and we waited a while after we seated till she finally showed up. Also, her visits to our table were few and far between. On the other hand, what was good was the busboy who brought out the food and the drink girl who kept an eye on all the drinks. Both of them were phenomenal and brought us anything we asked for and both of which asked how we were doing during our meal. Don't know if that's how things are supposed to be but it didn't seem like it.
Overall: Cafe Orleans has great food and is a nice place if you're willing to take a break from the park, inside the park. Although as with park food it is a little on the high side for what you get, but that has to be expected though. I would definitely come back here again.
So, I called trying to get a reservation for Blue Bayou. Of course there weren't any.
The very helpful hey-girl-hey answered the phone and was like "gurl, you know there ain't no tables there, try Cafe Orleans." He then went on to tell me that the menu is similar and since it's less crowded the service is better. I obliged. Was totally worth it. Service was fast, food was good and fresh. Quality was worth it, and prices weren't unreasonable.

Cafe Orleans is pretty disappointing. I've enjoyed most of my meals here, but the ones that have been bad have been horridly awful. The Monte Cristo sandwich is pretty good, and especially if you're sitting outside, the general atmosphere can make up for mediocre food, of which there is plenty on the menu.
But your experience at Cafe Orleans will largely depend on the attentiveness of your server. If you're passed around among multiple servers, your food will take forever, your water won't be refilled, and you'll wait a long while for your check. If you've got one dedicated server, you should be all right.
The wait times to be seated here can be ridiculous, even when it's in between traditional meal times. The Monte Cristo sandwich is worth trying once, but if the park is super crowded or if the wait is too long, you shouldn't waste your overpriced admission twiddling your thumbs here.

Memories of waiting for Fantasmic w/ UCI friends and bread bowls in the shape of mickey mouse come to mind when I think of Cafe Orleans! When you can't get a reservation or into Blue Bayou Cafe Orleans always does the trick!
I really don't like eating in Disneyland in general because the food selection is very narrow and tends to cater to what people think a certain cuisine should taste like. That said, this restaurant on the Disney property is not bad. Food is fairly tasty and they try to convey what an actual New Orleans restaurant might be like. I've been to the real French Quarter and its a good imitation. Even though it does not have any atmosphere like the Blue Bayou does, it is a solid choice for a little more than half the price. Wait staff was very friendly and food came out pretty fast. Inside the parks, I like Cafe Orelans and Plaza Inn the best and a much better alternative than Pizza Port or Tomorrowland Terrace.

Not bad. Not great. Just good.
Gumbo is far from "traditional" but good all the same. Nice level of spices with a light punch of pepper at the end. Good balance of ingredients and not overwhelmed by too much bell peppers.
Pomme Frites were disappointing. How the F do you serve STALE french fries when you've only been open for ten minutes???? Clearly, it's pre-cooked and left out to accommodate a shorter wait for the starters. Fail.
Monte Cristo was tasty but a bit too heavy for my stomach. If I could handle more oil and grease, I would have finished it all. Cheeses weren't too salty and the ham was moist. Fresh fruit on the side with an interesting blackberry puree. Batter used is sweet. Same batter used for the corn dogs on Main St.
Three Cheese Monte Cristo was curious. A bit sour and unbalanced in taste. The dipping sauce was the same blackberry puree as the regular Monte Cristo which is odd since the two sandwiches have completely different flavours. Didn't like this one too much. Same batter, same fruits on the side.
Mickey head beignets were nice. Light, puffy, and sweet. Great change from the typical "donuts" you find everywhere else. Stacked high at six pieces total, it was a bit much to finish. We left two on the plate.
Lemonade was literally water.
Coffee was light but good.
Service was odd.
Young lady serving us must have been new because she told us how to stack our plates so that it would be easier for her to pick them up.
WTF?!
Yeah. Fail on the service but from what I observed, the other servers were, for the most part.......cordial. So don't let me poo-poo on the service here. It was....decent. Just don't expect consistency in the quality of service you receive. My observations ranked from "What the hell are you doing in the service industry" to "Wow! That guy is really nice!"
Enjoy!

This place was such a disappointment, especially after reading all these good reviews about it. We waited for about 20 minutes for our table even though we had reservations and the place was not busy at all. We were placed in the middle of the walkway where we were basically eating with the table next to us. When we asked for another table the lady in charge of seating was very unwilling to give another table because they were already "filled." After this, we realized that the wait staff was very unprofessional and didn't really care about their customers. The only redeeming quality would be the french fries. But although all the shortcomings from this restaurant, we're probably going to give it another try, seeing as it is Disneyland and it's supposed to be the "happiest place on Earth." Try harder next time.

My husband and I make several trips to Disneyland every year. We celebrated our 26th trip to Disney yesterday... Somehow, We've missed this restaurant during our past visits but came across it this weekend after riding the Pirates of the Carribean.
The food and service was great! We ordered the fries, french onion soup and shared the Salmon Salad. We couldn't pass up on the Mickey Mouse shaped beignets! Everything was great!
I loved the Mickey Mouse beignets. They were delish and we savored every bite of it. We will definitely return.

I go to Disneyland several times a year and we always eat at the Bengal BBQ or Downtown Disney. We decided to try somewhere new and looked at the various restaurants.
We settled on Cafe Orleans after reading the menu and seeing the pommes frites. We only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated and ordered the pommes frites and monte cristo.
The pommes frites was the best deal! $5 for a huge serving of garlic fries is the best deal you are going to find in Disneyland! The dipping sauce that came with the fries was delicious!! We could not get enough of those fries.
The monte cristo was like a heart attack on a plate sooo worth it. Turkey and cheese rolled in dough deep fried and covered with powdered sugar. It tasted like a turkey and cheese filled funnel cake! The berry coulis to dip it in was fantastic too.
Next time we are getting the three cheese monte cristo because we weren't huge on the turkey. I also can't wait to have the fries again and I am ordering the mickey shaped beignet!

We came here for lunch while visiting DL, we were seated inside right next to the kitchen which kind of sucked but we didn't want to wait to sit outside, so whatever. The service was pretty rude for DL and it took quite a while for our food to arrive. Fiance had the Monte Cristo, which was flavorless and overly battered but not greasy. I had the salmon salad (I asked the waitress what she recommended between the chicken sandwich and this and she said the salmon salad). The salmon was good but the dressing on the salad was absolutely flavorless. It wasn't terrible because we were starving. $40 later (no drinks or apps, just entrees) and we were pretty disappointed, but hey, it's Disneyland, they're known for pricey food that tastes like crap.
We've been eating at the chicken place (Plaza Inn on Main Street) so I thought we should try a different restaurant on our next Disney trips. We hit up Cafe Orleans after exiting the Pirates of Carribean ride (the restaurant is just across the exit of the ride). I told my boyfriend will try Blue Bayou next time (Blue Bayou is the restaurant you see from inside the Pirates ride) since knowing its dinner time the place will probably be packed. I though Cafe Orleans would be the cafeteria-style version but its actually a sit down restaurant (French Market is the cafeteria-style).
The wait didnt seem that long at less than 15 mins so we decide to give it a try anyways. There were lots of people waiting in the front but we didnt have to wait that long for our table. We were seated at the patio area which is directly across the river where they have the Fantasmic show.
I was torn between the Monte Cristo sandwich and the Ratatouille but decided on the Ratatouille and my boyfriend ordered the Monte Cristo. I also got a cup of gumbo.
The Ratatouille was good. I mean this is my first time having it so there is really nothing to compare to but the veggies and the stew was flavorful. The corn cakes were a great addition to the meal. Theres an option to add chicken or salmon to the dish but its refreshing on its own.
My boyfriend loved the Monte Cristo. I did too. The fried ham and cheesey sandwich with the sugar and raspberry sauce all worked so well. Savory-sweet goodness.
The gumbo was also delicious. Big chunks of sausage and chicken with rice on top.
We saw a plate of the dessert pass by and asked our waitress what it was; "Mickey Beignets and theyre really REALLY GOOD" is what she answered so we ordered some after our meal. It came with about 5 or 6 Mickey pieces dusted with lots of powdered sugar and the same raspberry dip as the Monte Cristo and a vanilla/custard dip. Besides being overly dusted with the sugar they were awesome. Soft and fluffy and warm and delicious with the raspberry dip. Our bellies were full.
Our server was very sweet and she checked on us often. They did tell us we had to wrap up by 9 pm since they turn the lights off for the Fantasmic (they had to clear all the table settings before the lights turn off) but we were more than welcome to stay and find a spot to watch the show. Of course its pretty hard to see whats going on since there were so many people by the waterfront already.
Good food and another Disney eat to check off my list.

i came here again for my birthday dinner last night... i was so excited to bring my friends over here. but boyyy i was disappointed!
"LARRY LIN!! PARTY OF 4... LAST CALL, LARRY LIN!!"
[who the hell is this larry lin?.... why does his name sound so much like my name "Lilly Lin"...]
"uh ma'am, do you mean lilly lin?"
"uh. er. OH... OH!! YES, LILLY LIN. SORRY! i'm so tired."
silly hostess.
the waitress... sucked. she didn't check on us or keep us updated. we waited at least 20-25 minutes for our food. we didn't even receive our pomme frites until everything else came. isn't it an appetizer...? last time i came with my mom, the fries came out in a few minutes. fries are easy, they don't take long to make!! my friend then ordered another one, and it came out in like a minute. what's up with that?
so while the service was terrible, the food was decent. i ordered a french onion soup and the appetizer salad. my friends shared the mardi gras chicken sandwich, chicken gumbo, and we all ended up ordering 2 pomme frites. the sandwich was small (about 6 in?) my salad was a little too sweet. the pecans were good, but they were so sugared it was like candy. the decent sized salad was drizzled with raspberry dressing, which made it even sweeter. the cheese crumbles tasted unique and good.
my french onion soup was good but not impressive. i really wish they'd serve some bread at least on the side. typical stingy disneyland i guess haha. the pomme frites was just as good as last time... my friends liked their sandwich and gumbo but didn't seem very impressed (prob after waiting so long for the food/crappy service) and anyway, just thinking of a $16 small CHICKEN sandwich seems like a huge ripoff.
then came, my birthday beignet!! id say a beignet tastes like a funnel cake with very artificial/candy-ish drizzled syrup. my friends and i shared and agreed it was good.

I brought my mom over here just because of the great reviews/stars the yelpers have been leaving for… Read more »
One of the best places to eat at Disneyland. We were looking for sit down place we can relax and have a good meal at Disneyland and we found it! I give this place 5 stars mostly for the service and experience... yes you can probably find better food not at Disneyland, but out of the places there its one of the best.
We had the Pomme Frites, Ratatouille, Mickey Beignets, and kids' Mac and Cheese, this special drink they had pirate something it came with a take home cup... all of it was very good, even my son ate the mac and cheese - and he doesn't like mac and cheese for the most part!
Service was great, they kept checking back with us, filling drinks, etc. The location is great and the outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day.
Next time we go to Disneyland, we will definitely eat here again, we had a great experience!

We've missed this place somehow, over the years, must have just walked right on by as we headed toward the Blue Bayou. The Mrs found this in a guide book she had picked up, so we decided to meet my cousin and his family here one afternoon for lunch.
We discovered a real find in Disneyland, yup, the Cafe Orleans is well worth the effort to get in and check them out.
While this isn't the Blue Bayou, and what is? The food here is superior in every way, comparing the bill, I'd say we saved about 50% from our BB visit. Granted you'll have to deal with passer's by looking at your food and well that's just a part of what makes this a great place to sit and dine.
The French onion soup was to die for, my gumbo was solid. Pommes Frites were tasty and don't forget to save room for dessert! While I have yet to eat in the Big Easy, I will say this, the beignets, served in pure Disney-style are hard to beat. Blink your eye, and the plate will be empty!
What I really enjoyed here was, the good food, and being able to pick and choose from a slightly less costly sit down menu, compared to the Blue Bayou. Add to the fact you are able to look out onto the waters of the America, dine and bask in the sheer essence of Disneyland, that has changed little over time, well, minus the menu prices...

If you can't get in to the Blue Bayou and you are like me and associate that and the monte cristo sandwich with any trip to Disneyland, then this Cafe is your runner up. We were at Disney for Wed thru Friday in March in 2009, and who knew we had to book our lunch reservations at the Blue Bayou BEFORE we arrived. I could see when they couldn't take us the first day, but when I tried to book for the next 2 days, they were booked solid day and night.
So I missed my dark setting, the damp, special smell you only get when in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the Blue Bayou restaurant, and the fireflies that are my favorite. But at Cafe Orleans, I did get to have the monte cristo of my childhood days. Sadly, as an adult, it is a bit too much and I would have preferred one triangle for a dessert rather than 4 triangles for a meal. But at least I can say I had it.
The service at the Cafe was pretty bad. Reasonably priced though, and it overlooks the river area with the steam boat and the Pirate Lair island (what used to be Tom Sawyer's island). A definite alternative...but my advice is this: Book Blue Bayou before your trip. It's the ambiance you want, not the monte cristo.

if you've come for a monte cristo sandwich, then you've come to the right place. it's a ham and cheese combo dipped in batter and fried. to top it all off, they sprinkle powdered sugar on top. if you really want to kick it up a notch, they offer a three cheese monte cristo too.
cafe orleans is like the cheaper sibling to the blue bayou. they take reservations but the wait is pretty reasonable(fifteen minutes for when i went). the service was pretty good as well. i definitely recommend the french donuts for dessert.
There's a wait so call in or get there to make a reservation early. Food takes awhile to arrive so don't starve too much waiting for it.
On the upside, the gumbo is great and faintly spicy with rice over it. The Ratatouille is savory, with a bed of tomatoes and various vegetables with squash and onions and other greens seated on top. To be honest, I only got the Ratatouille because of the name. :p
The Monte Cristo was a surprising confectionary treat with a sweet grape glaze and powdered sugar. It tasted more like a dessert then an entree.
Fairly pricy, but welcome to Disneyland.
Cup of Gumbo
+ Ratatouille
+ Three-Cheese Monte Cristo
= 36~
